Matthews rips right wing Talkie Kevin James because he doesn't know who Neville Chamberlain is
By John Amato Wednesday May 14, 2008 5:55pm
President Bush made outrageous claims today in Israel, saying that Democrats were appeasers to Iran as you know since it's the hot topic of the day. Right wing talker Kevin James tried to call Obama "Neville Chamberlain," but as is usually the case with these talk show conservative hosts, he knew nothing about the historical facts revolving around Chamberlain and what happened as Hitler took power and started a war with Europe. I guess just repeating RW talking points doesn't work sometimes.
Chris: You are BS'ing me... You don't know what you're talking about.

Rough transcript:
Chris: I want to do a little history check on you---what did Neville Chamberlain do wrong in 1939? What did he do wrong?
Kevin: It all goes back to appeasement. It's the key term.
Chris: No, what did he do, tell me what he did?
Kevin: It's the key term.
Chris: You have to answer this question. What did he do?
Kevin: It's the same thing, it puts it all...
Chris: Well tell me what he did?
Kevin: It's appeasement.
Chris: What did Chamberlain do wrong..
Kevin: His actions, his actions enabled, energized, legitimized
Chris: What did Chamberlain do?
Kevin: It's the exact same thing.
Chris: No stop, Kevin. I'm not going to continue with this interview unless you answer what that thing is. What did Chamberlain do in '39, tell me? '38?
Kevin: Chris, it's the exact same thing alright?
Chris: What did he do? <Yelling> What did he do!
Kevin: '38, '39 Chris what year do you want?
Chris: What did he do?
I want you to answer, what did Chamberlain?
He's talking, He's talking about appeasement.
Chris: What did Chamberlain do, just tell me what he did, Kevin? What did Chamberlain do that you didn't like?
Kevin: What, what Chamberlain did? <confused> What, what, the President was talking about, you just said the President was talking about Barack. Look...
Chris: You're making a reference to the days before our involvement in WWII. When the war in Europe began. I want you to tell me as an expert, what did Chamberlain do wrong.
Kevin: You're not going to box me in here, Chris. President Bush was making that. I'm glad, I'm glad.
Chris: You don't know, do you? You don't know what Neville Chamberlain did
Kevin: Yeah, he was an appeaser, Chris....
Chris: You are BS'ing me... You don't know what you're talking about.
I couldn't transcribe anymore. It hurts. OK, this is too funny. Kevin, just say you don't know and move on. I think Matthews is a unstable most of the time, but occasionally he'll get something right.
Chamberlain's legacy is marked by his policy regarding the appeasement of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany with his signing of the Munich Agreement in 1938, conceding part of Czechoslovakia to Hitler. In the same year he also gave up the Irish Free State Royal Navy ports. Chamberlain was forced to resign the premiership on 10 May 1940, after Germany invaded the Netherlands, Belgium and France.

Nice one Tweety, well done.
I never heard of this James buffoon before. Sounds like Ann Coulter tactics to me.
wow! from chrissie, no less.
That's easy. He played basketball and became a Harlem Globetrotter. No? He was an actor?
Busted!
Hmmmm. A neocon who doesn't know what he's talking about. Surprise, surprise.
Oh. My. God. This guy's a bigger idiot than the President he worships.
"your not going to box me in...."
....with world history and facts and your education?
Tweety makes a good move!!! For once!!!
F*cking amazing! What a stupid blowhard! And this is the only kind of idiot who the Republican party can put forth?
He was an appeaser! He was an appeaser! He doen't even know the relevant history! Jackass!
Also, Chris, I don't think your news organization should tout a man who purported to have had sex with 20,000 women while on the set of Conan the Destroyer.
The MSM pundits and interviewers are starting to regain their voices.
Its the light at the end of the tunnel and the knowledge that come november the Repugs are gone.
Thanks, Tweety, even if it was about six years late. I love how James shut up when Green said, "When you're in a hole, stop digging."
By the way, Neville Chamberlain carried an umbrella.
Best work I've seen Tweety do in a long, long time. Bravo! I don't know where he got this turd burgler, but he needs to put him on every day so that people will know what the right wing is really about. Give him is own show!
Where did this guy go to school, Bob Jones University??
I couldn't have told you what Neville Chamberlain did in 1938 either, but I'm not on national TV trying to BS my way through.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
chrissie might one day feel bad about having on coulter and this douchebag. One day...
maybe...
*note to self: don't hold breath*
WOW! I have a whole new respect for Chris Matthews! And the other guest was excellent and they both put down that yacking talking head dumbass who had no grasp of what was even being talked about! Bravo! We need more of this stuff in the press!
You dont expect people to know the minute details of various key figures in history esp non Amrican players,
but NC was important in the late 30s, and WW2 was a turning point...
Thank You.
And email alert from Robert Wexler - He is preparing to deal with this criminal:
Subject: Inherent Contempt for Rove
Last night, I appeared on MSNBC's Verdict with Dan Abrams to discuss Karl Rove's outrageous refusal to appear before Congress regarding serious allegations that he used the US Justice Department to take down a prominent Democratic politician. It is alleged that Mr. Rove personally instigated the prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegleman. The case has been criticized by legal experts, and 52 former state attorney generals – both Republicans and Democrats – have criticized the case and called for an investigation.
If Rove refuses to testify voluntarily and ignores the subpoenas that will certainly be issued, he should be held in Inherent Contempt of the House of Representatives.
No American is above the law. None of us should be able to ignore Congress without consequence. If Mr. Rove ignores a subpoena from the Judiciary Committee, then the House of Representatives should pass an Inherent Contempt citation and exercise our right to send the House Sergeant-of-Arms to gather Mr. Rove and bring him before Congress to testify.
Ignorance is its own box.
this exchange was so uncomfortable to watch. i felt like i was watching the larry david show or something. if this idiot can get on as a pundit, then i think any of us can. where do you sign up?
Perfect example of the totally uneducated, stupid morons in the Right Wing-Nut party.
anncoulterisevil.com @ 4:
I think he sang "Tell It Like It Is" and "Don't Know Much."
These fucking reichwing talking heads -- there's an echo chamber in their empty heads!
Chamberlain was the English Prime Minister, most infamously remembered stepping from an airplane with a piece paper proclaiming 'peace in our time'. Oops.
The English had overstated their armaments procurement by a substantial amount, it was much bluster, the Nazis were not overstating that they had exceeded the English numbers. They didn't know that the English were cooking the books. They would have been delighted at the fact but they had poor intelligence.
The Bush Junta is like the Nazis, in a number of ways, unfortunately for us. Poor intelligence is one facet.
This wingnut talkie is all bluster, no facts. He is a disgrace.
Damn! Now that was funny! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Matthews made James look like a complete fool.
Kevin James Hollywood lawyer, says it all really.
yeah, the wingnuts are just getting warmed up.
Facts have a well-known liberal bias. It's best to avoid knowing them.
An edumacated republican.
Maybe he spent too much time in the mens room toe-tapping instead of learning.

I'll believe it when I see boosh sending blackwater to get rove out of jail.
That had to be the funniest thing I've seen all year. Good job Tweety
this IS the repubs finally melting down, falling to pieces, disintegrating, crumbling, withering, collapsing, shaking apart, freezing up, seizing, falling prostrate, in free fall, tearing out their own hair, waling and gnashing teeth (sorry for biblical reference...forgive me but it sounds good), swinging in the wind, flailing about, eviscerating themselves, and totally paying for their bullshit of the last 30 years.
I count Bill Clinton in with the Repubs and his soulless wife!!!
Alice Hussein @ 24:
No....I think he was a basketball player. He's in the hall of fame.
me and myself @ 2:
I haven't heard of this moron either. His tactics are more Hannity-esque than Coulter-esque - look for the finger-pointing and the intense obnoxiousness.
He should, at the very least, go to Wikipedia and look up the word "appeasement." It's defined as accepting the imposed conditions of an aggressor as a means to avoid conflict. The shorthand answer: being bullied into doing something.
And someone remind this nitwit that Chamberlain was a Tory!!

Your tragic performance on chris matthews made me so glad I dont live in LA and am not subjected to your profuse ignorance. You should do a better job of defending your issue by HAVING A POSITION and losing the talking points. I felt sorry for actual conservatives today as u will forever be the poster child for every stereo type leveled at the GOP... you could have at least had an assistant google the facts b4 going on air.
If you plan on responding with some sort of "I know you are but what am I" response, it would pleasure me to validate what I saw to be true during your screaming empty rant. You made yourself look like a clown today, quit while youre ahead...stop diggin!
You guys must have crashed the server, my mail bounced back!!!
Most people really don't understand what the French and English governments were doing. They let Germany get away with a lot of things that earned Chamberlain a bad name in popular history, but the reality was that the English were frantically building up their military. There was a recent scholarly volume I got to use for research on the pre-war build-up of Allied and Soviet militaries vs. the Axis which thoroughly debunked the "appeasement" bullshit, but I can't recall the author's name or the title. It was from within this decade, and from one of the university presses. I found it through Amazon and then looked it up in the local university library. Most of the material was under the 25 year rule of the Official Secrets Act because it was concerning military production levels, which for some reason remained classified and buried for a lot longer than it should have been. Short answer, the Allies were playing for time to get their own militaries ready for possible conflict. They didn't want to let Hitler get away with what he was doing, they just did not feel they had the force or the political backing to start another total land war following the devastation of WWI.
This is why I call Republican/Liberterian Hate Radio the Swift Boat Gestapo. That is my way of saying that it is impossible to have a lower opinion of Kevin James, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Neal Boortz and Glenn Beck. They are beneath contempt.
"...APPEAAAASER!...APPEASEMENT!!!....APPEAAAAASED!!!!!!!.....
.........Winger-want-a-cracker, Winger-want-a-cracker...BRRRAACKKK!!....BRRRAACKKK!!!!..."
I will give Chris Matthews this, he probably reads some academic books so he gets some sense of history that is not right wing propaganda so when a talking head wingnut spouts crap he can appropriately tear him down. Well done. Now if he could only translate this ability to modern history and politics on his own without having to refer to historical context laid out by others, I'd have much more respect.
This was not great Chris Matthews interviewing. He totally baited this man. Interviewers of low quality know how to do this. This was an interview that Chris wanted to have his candidate, Obama look good. He knew ahead how demonstrative this guy was. It was a complete setup. But what professionalism would one ever expect of Matthews?
Even though Arthur Neville Chamberlain was forced to step down from his position as Prime Minister in 1940 after the invasion of Belgium, the Netherlands, and France, the British continued to think well of him, because he made an effort to keep the peace.
Here we have the neocons using one of England’s respected leaders as an insult about appeasement, when the reality was that he responded to the will of mothers throughout Europe who were all too familiar with the devastation WWI brought to their countries, homes, families, and personal lives, and begged Chamberlain not to engage in the human slaughter and degradation that war is.
Chamberlain did what he could to prevent another world war, but the Nazis were assholes who wanted war and nothing, not even nearly half of Czechoslovakia and the Irish Free State Royal ports, prevented them from getting what they wanted. Chamberlain gambled for the people and lost the bet, but the game was not over, because Churchill became Prime Minister.
Most people who have known war on their own soil are not so anxious to do so again, because they are sane. Chamberlain is still respected in England for his attempt to prevent the last great man- made disaster, World War II. I suppose no one ever claimed that the neocons were any good with foreign diplomacy. The reason for this is that they are not very good with humility and respect for others. This fact alone makes them unfit to govern any nation, but especially America.
jjasonham @ 344:
Yes, the Iranian punks had arranged to release the hostages before Reagan took office, but DELIBERATELY waited until Carter was gone, and Reagan was in to actually let them go in order to make Carter look bad, and Reagan look GOOD.
We should also point out that the Iranian rebel government went out of its way to endorse Carter just before the election in 1980, knowing that a lot of Americans would vote for Reagan as a result of it. Why did the Iranian hardliners want Reagan to be elected? Because they then had an American boogeyman to point to, and use as a reason for the hardliners to stay in power. The Iranian hardliners stayed in power for years longer than they should have, as a result of Reagan's posturing in the Persian Gulf.
We should also point out that, just as the moderates had taken control in Iran, they were forced out when the Bush administration refused their offer in 2003.
Now, using exactly the same tactics, Hamas has just endorsed Obama because they WANT McCain. This should be obvious to anybody with the brains god gave to a GOOSE!
Geebuz! That guy gave a tremendous boot to my confidence.

Darrell Hammond as Chris Matthews:
Joining me today from Hoboken is ... I’m sorry, my card is kind of smudged. How do you pronounce your last name?
(MSNBC Chyron tracks) Jon Lovitz as Tommy Flanagan:
My name is Carl, er, Calvin, er, Kevin, uh ... Bacon, er, Costner, Jones, my name is Costner-Jones, just like that outlaw, uh, Jesse James was his name. That’s right, my name is Kevin James. Kevin James, that’s it. And you’re Crass Misuse, right?
CM: Not, it’s Chris Matthews.
TF: Well, I’m certainly glad we settled that.
CM: Wow. ... So we’re talking about what the President said in Israel, in the Knesset ...
TF: The what?
CM: The Knesset.
TF: Oh, yeah, I knew that. I’ve been there. In fact, I used to live there, in back, and we had a huge banana, er, apple, er, sugar, no, we had a cereal plantation, and everybody had bowls. After all, you can’t have cereal without a bowl. That would just be ... silly.
CM: So you’re telling me you used to live behind the Knesset? You lived in Israel?
TF: Where?
CM: The Knesset. Israel. You lived in ...
TF: The Knesset? The Knesset. No, I never said the Knesset, Carl, I said the K-Neeeh Schnitzle. The Schnitzle. We lived behind the Schnitzle. The Schnitzle, in Oak Par ... er, estates, a gated community, nestled the uh, heart of Pitt, er, Beverly, uh, Manhattan. Manhattan. That’s what I said, Keith. I don’t care what you say.
CM: Okay. So what did you think about President Bush’s statement today about ...
TF: I thought is was below, no, it was per ... it was brilliant, perfect, well, not perfect but, all that it could be. The man is brilliant, well, not brilliant but really adequate. Really, really adequent. He’s a good guy, he’s like me. Really. Just not as smart.
CM: So you’re saying you, Kevin James, is smarter than the president? The president of the United States?
TF: Well, sure. You gotta figure: the president says stuff, I say stuff, who are you gonna trust? I’m always telling the truth. That’s why my name is Colin, er, Kevin James, like the outlaw. And I have no reason to lie.
What did Neville Chamberlain do? Who was he?
His answer: He was that guy with the hair, uh, and hands, who like, walked around and appeased people, like that other guy with the funny mustache, who lived in that other country where the people speak a language.
Wow. Proof that any moron can be on television. Scary.
When I first heard what Numbnuts said in Israel, I thought "Someone should ask him what the word appeasement means." Matthews must have been reading my mind, because he put this little fucktard in his place the same way I would have done it: embarass these morons when they use words they don't know the meaning of.
The fact that this wanker cites a Disney work of fiction as a credible source is a laugh riot, too.
Captain Bitter Elitist Hussein Kangaroo @ 304:
@ 285 my post Especially since Bush, like James has no idea what appeasement means & I would wager a guess Bush doesn’t know diddly re: Chamberlain. His speech writers yes, Bush not so much … kinda sorta insinuated that James & Bush are (2) peas in a pod re: appeasement & Chamberlain, soooo ...
please give me partial credit lol
What an idiot.
That was hilarious... I have to give Matthews cred for that one.
Typical republican blowhard.
David Hill @ 330:
Quoting Dan Quayle ~ What a waste it is to lose one's mind. Or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is. ;)
take care
Chris did well.
Joanie @ 366:
hmm, attack the messenger, not the message or in this case the lack there of by clueless James.
As I said in previous posts, both Bush & James don't even know the definition of appeasement ... ergo, hence, therefore any argument started with such a false premise is immediately rendered mute & further discussion by James & Bush should be considered laughable.
The Israelis were probably just being polite when they didn't laugh at Bush's faux pas ie his total lack of historical knowledge when he misinterpreted both appeasement & Chamberlain as talking points in his failed analysis.
& I also mentioned in a previous post distraction & changing the subject which applies to your post. When you don't have a rational argument use deflection tactics.
take care

Wow, that was beautiful. Every once in a while Chris Matthews does something completely awesome that almost makes me forget about how big a douche bag he is.
seriously, the kid tried referencing Pathway to 9/11...
epic fail...

It's the anti-intelligence crowds mouth machine. Just wind em' up, and listen to them repeat the GOP shit list. If these people had any brain's, they wouldn't be republican's.
Neocon pipsqueak.
And as usual, one of these numbnuts tries to blame Clinton for the failure to respond to the attack on the USS Cole when it clearly was Bush who did not respond to the attack.
I guess they just assume nobody knows they're full of shit or actually has a command of the facts.
Joanie @ 366:
Was Matthews trying to make Obama look good when he challenged Kirk Watson to name some of Obama's legislative accomplishments and he couldn't?
Let's not make more of this than it is... Matthews sometimes gets his rocks off on making people look like fools on the air... He succeeded against an Obamam supporter and he did big time here against a Bush puppet.
Kevin James yaps like a mad little terrier!
Arf-arf, "Energizes", arf-arf "legitimizes," arf-arf...
And when queried about facts, all he had was more arf-arf.
America, behold your proud right wing.
zugzug @ 60:
And remember four years ago, with the infamous "self-inflicted-wounds" Swift-boat crap that Talkin' Michelle Malkin tried to pull on him? He gave her a similar type of smack down, as well.
This was good. A bit of a low-hanging fruit if you ask me (and so was the Malkin-thing), but props to Tweety. Good job.
Why doesn't any of the media remind us that Bushy appeased Quaddafy, the SOB behind the Lockerbie bombing?
Wow! Looked like a pit bull v. a poodle. I haven't seen someone eviscerated like that since Al Franken & Molly Ivins double-teamed Bill O'Reilly.
wow. Alot of people are off their meds today. First biden and then tweety. I am taking bets on conyers sowing up at rove's house and really kicking his ass.
George W. Gump @ 137:
THIS! is the reason everyone has a new slant..don't want to be behind

cray86 @ 37:
Yes and no...he knows which way the wind's blowing, so he's cozying up to the Nu-left and progressives (like us) with stances like this.
He's still the same conservative misogynist he's always been.
That said, even he has his limits. And Kevin jambroni and President Beavis power-jumped over the line with the Nazi analogies. Mr. Matthews was well within his rights to check this asshole on national TV. I say, go for it.
Kevin doesn't know any damn thing. His job is simple; be a voice in favor of dumbing down Americans.
Mark Green is right- all they want is rhetoric and not resolution because rhetoric gets them votes. Resolution does too but that means work- something these guys lack.
"Watch Pathway to 9/11"? LOL
Way to go, Tweety. I'm proud of you for once.
The description of Chamberlain lacks much depth, it is true that on official shows and interviews he was talking about appeasement, but I don't think they were ever as dupe as some so-called history experts would make you believe now.
When Chamberlain returned from the singing, Britain started accelerating their production of weaponry, so they were never really dupe.
For many the appeasement talk were just diplomatic powder used to buy Britain some precious time to close the gap on weaponry, just liek the treaty between Stalin and Hitler never was a true alliance just a way to assure each other some time to finish their business (Stalin arming himself, Hitler preparing and invading West-Europe)
Aaaaw. I wonder if poor Kevie went for a few good stiff drinks after that. Guessed he's washed up?
Everyone know Neville Chamberlain was responsible for laying the groundwork for the Cuban Missile Crisis, (which is the same as the Bay of Pigs, for those of you that don't read.) ;)
Dr. Biitter Hussein (Mission Accomplished) Matt @ 194:
Yes, that is more scary than the obvious fact that he didn't know who Neville Chamberlain was.
What I find interesting is also that so few Americans grasp the timeline of the event that led to WWII and the realities of the 1930's. I think the whole episode has somehow compressed in American minds and they have no real grasp of the issues. They're simply demonizing someone when drawing the Hitler card. There is a term for it: Godwin's Law.
The Hitlers of the world are out there, but they are not in Iran!
Man, that was tough getting that transcript together. hehe...if anyone finishes it, I'll add it to the post...
Chris Mathews is starting to learn... I think.

this is what would happen to Sean Hannity every day if he couldn't control the mic levels.
Green Eagle @ 221:
I call bullshit.
Historical records of the time show that Chamberlain himself was covering the poiltical PR side of things (which was representing the population who were *incredibly* war-weary), while the actual government and industrial machine behind the scenes was cranking up for conflict. For example, the Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire went from drawing board to production between 1934 to 1937, which means the specifications were drawn up by the Air Ministry at least 4 years before Munich and 5 years before the outbreak of war. That is *not* a cowardly action, that is making the best of the situation you have.
Now, let me give you a quick reminder of why the British public was just so war-weary. These days it's known as WWI, and to our cousins across the pond it seems to have been an 18-month skirmish compared to the war that followed. To the European nations however, it was known as The Great War, or "the war to end all wars". Every European power fed an entire generation of young men into a meatgrinder that makes Vietnam look like a training exercise by comparison. An officer class schooled on the tactics of the Napoleonic Wars failed to come to terms with the invention of the machine gun. By the end of that conflict, whole villages and towns had lost practically all their young men, and the net result was that aside from around Germany, the map of Europe looked much as it had before a single shot was fired.
Also, while you're at it, look up the Chamberlain policy of rationalisation. The fact that the UK had factories to re-arm in by 1938 was largely thanks to him.
This is the problem with teaching the Disney version of history - the nuance is lost.
J.
Kevin James isn't different from the big time gasbags like Limbaugh, Hannity or O'Reilly. Those 3 and their imitators make glaring errors every day they broadcast.
BTW, Chamberlin was a CONSERVATIVE
Kevin James needs to look up a few things imo....
#1. Definition of Diplomacy (easily found in any dictionary)
#2. Definition of Appeasement (also pretty easily found in any dictionary)
#3. World history circa 1938-39 (I suggest teh google)
#4. Definition of "aiding and abetting the enemy" (specific reference to the Trading With the Enemy Act...Oct 20 1942 is a pretty good date imo....)
Still want to talk about Nazi's/Hamas etc in those terms? ...Jackass
That was just plain f**king awesome.
What an imbecile!!!
Way to go Chris, I watch you all the time. You should have just pulled the plug on that guy after the first minute of his BS, or Muted him out so the other guy could have his say.
That was Fun, Keep up the Good Work.
I'm literally ROFLMAO here. I can watch this a million times. Its so embarrassing and pathetic and hilarious at the same time
I mean at one time he cant even get the name straight! Who the fuck is "Neverlynne Chamber"?
Its great Matthews just wouldnt let this ignorant little loudmouth punk of the hook
This guy is such an idiot I bet if Matthews had asked him "What did Charlemagne do wrong in 1938?" he would scream "Charlemagne was an appeaser Chris! The things that Neverlinne Charlemagne did energized, legitimized and energized legitimized and made it easier for Hitler to advance in the ways that he advanced!"
Very late to the comments, but had to mention -
When I was discovered libertarianism as a political philosophy (1984) Reagan had his whole anti-Communist thing going, and I started asking some Reagan supporters "So exactly WHY is the Soviet Union so bad?" It was a similar deal.
Too often they would simply keep saying "Because they are Communist". Nothing about what the details of that meant...nothing about America being free versus being a dictatorship (back then it was, mostly), nothing about Stalin's atrocities or the travel restrictions, or even there being no free press!
hahahah! Tweety clearly keeps an eye on the blogs
This was hilarious. Props to Matthews.
You have got to love rightwing conservative talking heads (so called political commentators) who doesn't know, anything except of their talking points and the dogmas of their ideology.
(Kevin James, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly it doesn't matter- they all are a dumb idiots, with no knowledge of history or anything else - their only qualification is I guess their loud mouth)
I laughed so hard.
The best part for me was this.
Chir Mathews: What did he (Chamberlain) do?
Kevin James: NEVERLAND CHAMBER was an appeaser alright! His policies the thinks that he supported energized, legitimized and energized legitimized and......
LOL
Greetings from Czech republic.
He probably told all his listeners, friends and family that he would take on Chris Mathews. LMAO!
What an idiot this "Kevin James" screamer is. So very, very typical of the right wing wacko contingent. How have we put up with this crap from them for so long?
I believe Prescott Bush was an appeaser...
Prescott Bush was alot worse than that.
He gained the family fortune and set up the Boosh dynasty courtesy of Aldolph Hitler!
I couldn't comment sooner because this thread was already up and up to 150 comments before I got home.
The trouble with Chamberlain is that many reference books don't mention Czecholslavakia but the peace in our time. But I think to a large extant that's been replaced with mission accomplished.
Whatever motives Chamberlain had, I can't claim to peek inside his head and see, too gooey.
However, the last World War left Europe shattered. Nations that existed pre-war no longer did after war: the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Tsarist Russia replaced with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (Does that make them Socialists or Republicans?) etc. There were huge costs of rebuilding and rearming and resettlements. There were attempts to protectionism, and all this led up to a Great World Depression, it wasn't only in the US alone. So one can see the need to create some peace.
And when your forces are strained you don't want the enemy to know or you're negotiating from weakness, and the forces are available for protecting their home country. Otherwise the Blitz might have been successful.
However, if one is going to raise a point you have to research it first. No wonder this guy never became a lawyer, the opposition advocate and the judge would chew him alive.
That one belongs in the Stupidity Hall of Fame.

"It's the exact same thing !" "It's the exact same thing !" "It's the exact same thing!" The whacko said that phrase over and over so many times. I just tried mirroring him on the video. I felt like I actually became all the assholes I've known in high school, college and seen so much lately on TV. What a nice club ; this idiot whatever his name was, Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh. I wonder if they exchange email with eachother or have Skype chats or what. Do they love eachother ? Compete with eachother ? Learn from eachother?
Long live Chris Matthews! This should convince some of his detractors that he's not that bad. In fact, often he's great.
Wow, a snivelling little wingnut who doesn't know what he's talking about?!?! Do we need any more proof that these stuffed shirts are literally handed a pieced of paper with buzz words on it 5 minutes before they go on the air?
randomstranger @ 378:
He's still a douchebag, but he's our douchebag.
Eight years late but it's about time that Matthews did his job by confronting dumb fucks like this sack of shit James. Get ready for a complete ass whipping Repubs(and phony progressives who troll here) in the fall. People are finally sick of this right wing bullshit.
"A change is gonna come"

Your post begins with this statement:
"President Bush made outrageous claims today in Israel, saying that Democrats were appeasers to Iran as you know since it’s the hot topic of the day."
I would be crazy to not think that he was implying this. I would also be crazy to fault anyone for inferring this.
But for you to claim that Bush said that "Democrats were appeasers to Iran" is not accurate. Not a complete mischaracterization but not accurate reporting either. There was plenty of things in his speech that you could tear apart while using his actual words.
This may seem like a technicality but everyone here would be jumping all over the other side for similar tactics.
Better late than never I guess. Maybe there is hope for Tweety, but for some reason, I won't hold my breath.
As for the the repug, typical loud mouth, strong arm tactics. Thanks for this one. I missed it on the idiot box.
Clear slate. lol.
marko @ 34:
You left out frothing at the mouth!!! How COULD you forget?
I don't like Hardball and I don't approve of these tactics. That said, it does need to be pointed out that these Repubs have no knowledge of history and that has been costly. Matthews pointed out that Dana Perino did not know what the Bay of Pigs was. Bottom line if you do not know history, you cannot learn from it, and therefore are destined to repeat it. Hence, Iraq, the gasoline problem, the economy and etc.
Im glad of a good example of how pale men an women run their mouths AN DONT KNOW ANYTHING this happens all the time but they are never questioned like this on the things they say ive seen this a million times whenever blacks an whites debate about race in America i know most of you dont want to hear it but why no i have spent my whole life being force fed white american history ,so why is it that they want to take our past an brush over it you will hear this same rambling if you ask what did Jessie Jackson do wrong what a dumb white man this speaks volumes ,go look up Prescott bush lil g bush grandfather an see the connection to Hitler right thru our President just 3 gen back ,,,,,,its funny how white people tell us about a fre ride when our people have given 400 years of FREE LABOR an act like my people want hand outs ,,,or the race card there is no sych thing as a race card ,what kind of card was it when they tied a black man by his neck to a tree an beat an burned him what card is that ,what card is it in 2007 when a young black unarmed man gets shot at 50 times an murdered an the police get OFF you pale hypocrites you are liars an im glad that you are the scum of the world at this point dumb wart making people u still think that 911 was some foreign terrorist NO BUILDING IN AMERICAN HISTORY HAS EVER BURNED INTO ASHES BUILDING 7 WASN'T HIT BY A PLANE STUPID BUT THEY PULLED IT BLEW IT UP GO AN WATCH LOOSE CHANGE THEY HAVE NEVER SHOWN U A PLANE HITTING THE PENTAGON firemen gave reports that the fire in the building was almost under control people heard explosions an then we end up in Iraq an gas is 14 dollars an our troops are fighting for no good cause ,,all you pale people were down with this war its in your blood u called for it u cheered for it now look where we are
one more thing. That ass hat refered to "Path to 9/11". He used a political hit piece as a reference.unbelievable. just unbelievable.
I suggest he watch Lions for Lambs. It's an excellent movie.
blackman laughing @ 424:
Yeah man! Let it out you nutjob.
Numinous @ 286:
What boggles the mind is that Israel, which was created out of the victimisation of the Jews in the Holocaust, and knowing that Bush's granddaddy was collaborating and profiting from the Nazis, actually ignore that and use Bush to emulate exactly what Hitler did to Poland and get him to fight its dirty little wars. Is that brilliant, conniving or a exploitive blot on the memory of all those who succumbed to the death camps in Germay. Methinks the latter.
shiloh @ 377:
I need to see the video again, but my impression was that certainly some of the Israeli audience including Livni WAS applauding and laughing. Am I wrong? I recall seeing Elie Weisel in the audience looking ashen, but he has not come out with a statement to rebuke what Bush said, probably out of politeness or is it just being hypocritical? Isn't an immediate statement called for? Isn't a silent "polite" response APPEASEMENT to Bush?
to ; (Message #424) "Blackman laughing" . I'm whiteman crying. I was brought up to not trust blacks and to hate Palestinians. Now I'm 46 and I hate my white Jewish relatives because they are all Zionists (90% of them) It disgusts me ! and also they probably don't give a hoot about all the things you mentioned in your message about Black American history. Whites should do what is necessary to at least try to compensate for the past and help bring about SOME equilibrium economically and politically throughout the USA.. By the way - the stuff you said about 9/11 Here is a link to a great new video all about that. Everybody -send this link to your friends and relatives ; For some reason the first time you click on the link --a game or advertisement pops up and it seems I have to erase the screen and click on the link freshly one more time to get the 9/11 video website. Here is the link ;

"When you're in a hole stop digging." Wonderful line. Great.
Then he goes on to say that the right-wing uses loaded words to slime political candidates.
blackman laughing @ 424:
Good post but please stop generalizng black and white people.
Tweety ripped that douche repub congressman from Georgia last year, forget his name but he did not know his history either, invoked Korea and Vietnam to make his non point. Tweety needs to bring more shills in to embarrass themselves on national TV.
James shown you why comedian Rush Limbaugh will not show his face unless he gets softballs from Hannity or such.
THIS is what television journalism is supposed to be.. instead of letting the bobbleheads get away with this BS and/or parroting the same talking points.
Thank you, Chris Matthews.
I think they found this guy at Circuit City.
Good grief.
Yeah, i was watching live as well. The best part was at the end when Chris finally told this assh*le the story of Chamberlain & actually made the point everyone needs to keep repeating: What Neville Chamberlain did wrong in Munich was give Hitler half of Czechoslovakia that is appeasement, talking to someone, diplomacy, is not by default "appeasement". So this Neville Chamberlain bullsh*t has to end, it makes no sense unless/until demands are given in to & nothing is acquired in return.
Sweet Jesus, me likey the big strong Tweety-Man!
I was just about to write him off for dead.
Maybe he's been going out, getting drunk, chasing women, and beating up neocons with Keith.
John Amato @ 36:
I all fairness to you, John, you could have put
and that would have been sufficient.
THAT WAS BRILLIANT!!!!
[Ivan- While very few here will argue against that sentiment, you can't use all of those exclamation points. They throw off the formatting on everyone's browsers. It's not just exclamation points, either. Hold down any character key on the board it it will cause the same havoc. Please remember this in the future. Thank you. Site Monitor]
It really comes down to. If you're going to use historical facts to make a point, maybe you should at least wiki it. These guys always want to play the game of "you don't see it my way, so I'm assuming you don't get it." It's difficult to address them because they are so out to lunch that have literally re-educate them to get your point across. ...or else just tell them their stupid and out to lunch which doesn't win arguments.
euthyfro @ 50:
....He also played basketball.
HAHAHA! loved that. Tweety just went up a notch in by book. He took that cowardly little big talking chickshit know-nothing simpleton chickenhawk, who I am sure never served in the military talking about being strong, right to the carpet and didn't back down.
Way to go Tweety!
Joe O. @ 44:
It's hard work! :)
Beautiful.
wow chris mathews actually found one of his guests to be a bigger loser than he is.
I'm amazed.
Alice Hussein @ 24:
Yet another reason and opportunity to say;
Impeach the Bastard.
[Bush of course.]
You know tweety catches a lot of flack, a lot of it deserved. But I like him (I should probably point out that I'm a conservative
that can't bring myself to vote for a neo-con). But, when he's on, he is really great.
Sometimes he just lets crap slide way too much (See his interview with Mann Coulter). This is great though,
and it's a perfect example of how great he can be...
Ivan @ 53:
next time please hit the space bar!
Incredible. I don't usually have much respect for Matthews because he injects too much emotional junk into his discussions, but this was what real news/talk shows should be like. Call them on their B.S. and show them for the empty suits spewing mindless talking points machines that they really are.
Imagine if he would to that to McCain? The poor old man would pop and leak fluids. Chris now knows what he can do, wonder what he will do?
Its on TV right now
Why didn't he grill these bobbleheads like that before the war started?
I think It all goes back to appeasement.
Don't you guys get it?
Kevin James and the other right wingers have given us peace for our time.
B
Alice Hussein @ 59:
Hey, run that by Nancy, will you? she's on the other thread.
CoIntelPro for Democratic Party Victory @ 52:
or even [dickwad doesn't know]
stella @ 407:
Exactly!
I bet they were all sitting at thier tee vee sets just waiting to see thier mighty kevin take Chris to the woodshed!
LOLOLOL!
You have to love wingnuts like Kevin James. Their one-size-fits-all historical analogy is almost always World War II (and how our enemy of the week is just like Hitler), but frequently they don't even know their WWII history very well. I'd say that Kevin James is as dumb as a rock, but that would be insulting to rocks. I know Matthews frequently takes flak on this site (and often with cause), but at least he has cracked open a book or two.
Wow! That was good.
"Appeasment is giving things away, not talking!"
If your going to make a direct historical reference, know what you are talking about.
lol . . . better than a sitcom. i love the part where mark green asks if he can answer. ah . . . some people's children. better luck next time, kevin.
did this guy actually refer to 'pathway to 9/11' to get factual information? that piece of shit 'documentary' abc aired a year or 2 ago?
wow...these are the guys informing the american radio world
america is in a very sad state
i guess that's what you call free.dumb
Mathews maybe a political nerd but he is also a history buff. Here he is at his finest... too awesome
