Talking Points Memo: Is it really a good idea to have a crackpot war profiteer like James Woolsey speaking for your campaign?
Balkinization: How did the DOD decide to authorize torture, cruel treatment, and violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice?
This Modern World: What we learned about running death squads and propping up corrupt government in Latin America and how to apply it to other places.
Dani Rodrik: The heart of Barack Obama's spending program is his plan to spend $15 billion a year for ten years on energy technology.
Direland: Is Italy going fascist?
Blue Gal volunteers for public service...

Foooooist!
HA! Blue Gal doth kicketh much hindquarter!
Woolsey sounds like a real piece of work. Perfect for McCain's campaign. Since everything else about McCain's campaign seems like a freak show at the circus, what's one more freak?
McDumbass' supporter James Woosley actually called Obama "delusional". Out of all the words to use this nutcase picked delusional. This race is already over. All the Repubs can do now is to dirty up Obama for 2012.

Dear lawd...where do they find these nutjobs?
Didja read the thing about the death squads? that's uh...a bit unsettling.
I love this line:
It reminds me that we have free speech in this country so we have no reason to exersize it. LOL!
the phrase 'part of the problem' is perfectly suited to james woolsey.
he is part neoliberal, and part neoconservative. which, in essence, means that, either through economic blackmail or violence, he advocates the blob-like growth of the corporate empire.
and, zoiks, looky here, his wife, suzanne woolsey is the director of Fluor corporation... which:
"In 2001, Fluor spent a total of $714,027 to lobby Congress, the White House, and various agencies, of which $374,027 was spent by the company's in-house lobbyists. In 2001, the company's lobbying disclosure report states that it lobbied on issues such as defense authorization, Terrorism insurance and appropriations for Energy and Water, Foreign Operations and Defense. In 2002, the company spent $672,899 on lobbying; $272,694 of that was spent in-house. In 2002, Fluor lobbied the same institutions and agencies on various Defense Department measures, Department of Energy and national security issues, and Commerce, Justice and State appropriations.
Fluor was one of the six companies invited to bid for the overall Iraqi reconstruction contract that the U.S. Agency for International Development eventually awarded to Bechtel. Although it lost out on that contract, Fluor, through its Greenville, S.C., branch Fluor Intercontinental, is present in Iraq as a subcontractor to the Air Force Augmentation Program, which provides support for existing U.S. Air Force contracts. AFCAP, under a $4 million initial contract, provides a broad range of logistical support such as warehousing, bottled water supply, trucking and customs clearance to USAID and its contractors working on the Iraqi reconstruction effort. The award can be increased to up to $26 million over 12 months."

It seems that Wiki has pulled the web page. The link does not work and i tried a search and came up empty.
I just got the stream of the Daily Show. He had Laura Logan as his guest.
I am so amazed that the people in the USA do not see photos of the destruction in Iraq and Afghanistan and especially the photos of dead US soldiers. So basically the news in the USA is censored? This was the clip from the Daily Show that I just viewed and refer to here.
I watch all kinds of news channels over here and they don't leave out anything, they do give a warning about graphic nature etc. So in other words US citizens are NOT ALLOWED to view the real things that are going on in their name by the Administration that has made the USA into one of the most hated countries. You don't have a right to know?
This is such a hateful, terrible regime we have in power right now.
They really need to be gotten out, they are like termites eating away at the foundation of the country.

They flat out told us that they were going to use propaganda in the "War on Terror." They did not say it would not be directed at us.
america's legacy in the central and south america is criminal
the death squads, the assasinations, the economic neocolonialism, the poverty policies thrust on nations down south: all are part of a shameful and disgusting legacy, conducted by rep and dem admins over decades.
and it continues today. in the end, all the people we tortured, killed, condemned to a life of poverty has, in the end, hurt america.

On "Morning Joe" today that annoying Joe Scar quoted Woosley as if he had credibility. Joe then began with the fear card talking points bullshit a la 2004. Of course Mica and Willie were in total agreement.
Berlusconi the new Duce? WTF? Is Alessandra Mussolini deaf to all that? Sweet Yehoshua, you'd think the Italians would have learned from the last time. At least the Germans aren't trying for Hitler, Round II...

An excellent clip! Laura Logan may be the best television journalist that i have been exposed to.

No, but it looked for a while like we were.
xoites defends Constitution @ 14:
...and here come the cheap one-liners in 3...2...1... :-)
You don't like my raincoat?
pissed off patricia @ 15:
When will she get her own show?
xoites defends Constitution @ 16:
True, but even if Berlusconi did become a dictator, he'd be more a bad version of Yuri Andropov or Konstantin Chernenko. Guy's not exactly young, after all.
When did Germany have a resurgence of Nazism again? O.o I thought Nazism was outlawed after both us and the Ruskies ruled your nation?
General_Rennenkampf @ 20:
Sorry, i was not clear. When i said, "we" i was refering to the United States. Of course we never had Hitler here, but we do watch tv.
Maybe we should rename Iraq New Salvadore.

Don't need no damn jihad"

Probably late in the afternoon of the day we break up the media monopoly and return the airwaves to their rightfull owners: the American People.
xoites defends Constitution @ 21:
We never had Hitler but we have nazism.
I was just going to comment that here at home, in the US, is one of those "other places" ..
See Bangkok-Bob's post, for one instance:

An American version, and a pale shadow of it, at that. Nazism is German nationalism, there's a lot that would have to alter for it to work here. And as for it, I haven't heard of massed rallies and hordes of stormtroopers breaking up newspapers and rallies of the opposition, as well as an ironclad devotion around the new Fuhrer. If I'm ill-informed, do inform me.
General_Rennenkampf @ 26:
You have to admit, they have taken control over the MSM. That's all they had to do.
General_Rennenkampf @ 26:
Would Hitler have destroyed his own press? If the Corporate Media was working directly for the United States Government during the run up to the invasion of Iraq what exactly would they have done differently?

Is Italy going fascist? Hm, let me see, they reelected that criminal Berlusconi who was supposed to have been arrested in 2003 for fraud involving his media company but somehow he managed to get enough lackeys in the Italian parliament to grant him a sort of pardon for that. I remember that report as that was blaring on all the tv's when I arrived in Sheffield, England for school. And lets see, this isn't a private company acting as a branch of the government eg Faux Nooz. This is a media company directly controlled by said prime minister. Yeah, fascism.
Also, you may need a correction on your Latin America sentence. They were not only corrupt governments but also fascist governments. Guess why Latin America has been trying to go the opposite way lately.

Ron @ 27:
You people are too kind. The corporate media in service to the government like it was in the old fascism would have Bush's face plastered everywhere with endless replays of his determination and resolve. It also would have gradually increased censorship on the media and the Internet, especially. Can't have these dangerous furrein ideals creepin' in. It would also have never even allowed the revealing of things like the Downing Street Memo. There also would have been even less coverage of anti-war rallies than there were. I live in the Deep South, and even then, in 2003 you could hear tales of gigantic rallies in opposition to Iraq. If the Media were controlled ala USSR or Nazi Empire, none of that would have even been allowed to be mentioned. Another drumbeat that would have appeared would have been WWII-style propaganda everywhere of Arabs and Muslims as evil. What's happening now is a very laid-back thing compared to WWII stuff. The enemy would be dehumanized to extremes that make the current dehumanization look positively warm and fluffy. There would be nursery rhymes with the GWOT equivalent of "Whistle while you work, Hitler is a jerk, Mussolini is a weenie and Tojo is a jerk," or "Three blind Japs," or even comic books showing Muslims as evil monsters.
All of that was how hysterical the US was in WWII. And the media then was as good in the gubbmint's pocket as it ever was. Do you think that's what's going on today, when Dubya's down the tubes in popularity and 71% of the nation is anti-war?

"Barack Obama's skin is the color of AMERICAN SOIL." and other truths about Barrack Obama.
General_Rennenkampf @ 31:
i see it the opposite way: the government is controlled by corporations, not vice versa...
the govt serves corporate interests
Depressing news, but the thought of Blue Gal smacking Matthews does cheer me up. ;-)
