Jon Stewart Mocks McCain's Pathetic Youth Outreach

Given Obama's huge edge with younger voters, the McCain campaign is trying to capture a portion of that demographic with some admirable, though pathetic, youth outreach efforts. From the "Straight Talk Express" version of "Cribs" to the riveting "Pork Invaders" video game, Jon Stewart shows why McCain just doesn't get it.

McLame is as pathetic as a toy poodle trying to hump a bull mastiff.

To me, the attempts by the McCain campaign to be cool, are foolish and demeaning to him and his whole campaign.

Actually, that's funny....McBain...not so much.

That thing with the bus was bad in so many ways. How fu*king cool can a fu*king bus be?

Yes Jon, we know you love him too. Perhaps you could focus on some of his more egregious policy positions, and not his fish-in-a-barrel target of simply being old and lame. John Kerry was old and lame, but he would have made a better president than chimpy.

"What's he trying to do, trying to call out the Partridge Family?" Awesome!

People watch The Daily Show because it is comedy. If Stewart started preaching or getting serious, they would change the channel. The fact that there is truth in jest is just a plus.

Exactly.

Dems have plenty of ammo to hit McSame with w/o having to call him 'old' . He'll just get more sympathy if that is all he gets attacked for. McSame will make the 'old' argument for us just by appearing on TV and even more so when he appears with Obama. Lets leave that to the subliminabably challenged.

I noticed that Colbert and Stewart recently attacked Obama for his Campaign finance 'opinion change'. They both had entire segments on this subject. When McSame flip-flops, it's just a passing mention, if that.

The fact that THESE TWO guys are jumping on the 'Obama is a flip-flopper' bandwagon, is troubling.

One thing about insulting someone because he's old like Stewart did, it is just as wrong as insulting Obama because he's racist, Keith Ellison because he's Muslim, or Richard Dawkins because he's atheist.

I understand all that. He's at the top of my tivo list, and I don't miss an episode.
The fact that his is simply a comedy show has been debated at length in the comments on this site. But that doesn't change the fact that he has been one of the loudest voices representing my views and wishes in the national arena, which, I feel, gives me the right to express certain directions I'd like his show to take. You gotta admit, he's bought into the McCain "charm" just like the MSM has. I think I'm right in saying I wish he wouldn't.
The bit was hilarious, though.

It's not his age that makes him "old". It's how undeniably out of touch he is with anything that was invented after 1947.

Again, wet blankets! There's too many of em here!

John Stewart is 3 times as old as some of his audience members. . . yet he still manages to reach them.

I think it's more about being in touch than being old.

McCain is very likely just as out of touch with the rest of us too.

What can I say? Funny as hell.

If John attacked everyone that went on his show, he'd barely have any guests left.

There's plenty of comedy to be had poking holes in McSame's policies. Calling someone 'old' is not comedy, even if Jon Stewart is doing it.

The McCain campaign strategists know they are up against a huge problem- they are trying to win with a candidate that will be a third term of the most unpopular president in history.
They know they don't have any votes, so their strategy is to peel off voters from other candidates. Here is their campaign strategy, from their own Youtube channel.

550 horsepower and 22" 'rims' actually make sense on a bus. That ain't gonna get the kids attention!

Donk that bus out McCain! 100 spoke twankies with a 36" lift bay-bee! Vertical caddy grill, wood-grain interior, honeycomb paint and air-ride so you can drop dat ass!

You should stick with watching FOX. Oh, remember the Half Hour Hour show on FOX. By was that a dog. The fact is that Steward and Colbert are funny and pro-Obama and FOX is Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Brett Hume, Laura Ingram, etc, etc. and McBush is OLD.

America needs new, young blood. Go Obama. You know, the guy standing against the wall with the martini and the hot girl on his side. Karl Rove would probably be the troll hiding in the corner, plotting how to get the girl.

Nothing worse than an elderly person trying to act young. We've all seen them. People dressing like they are teens when it is very very apparent that they aren't. I'm down here in Florida so I see it year round and especially during the winter when all the snow birds are down here.

When you see someone doing this, you know they are not happy with themselves and are trying to return to a happier time in their lives. They want to pretend they are as cool as they ever were. When you see an older person who is comfortable with their age they are admirable, at least they appear that way to me. They know who they are and they don't feel the need to pretend to be anything else.

McCain and his campaign are not going to appeal to young people by trying to be one of them. The harder they try, the older they will appear. At some point people will become embarrassed for then and look the other way.

Did you hear Conan's joke last week. If not, I'll share...

On “The View,” Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle, did the fist-bump with all the co-hosts. And then she said that the fist-bump is the new high-five. After hearing this, John McCain asked, “What the hell is a high-five?”

As far as I'm concerned, it's much more disconcerting how out of touch he has, as opposed to his age.

hey personally i respect my elders.....but far as mcBlame goes...his calendar age is 71-72 but his biological age is maybe 76-78 years of age.....just a guess....and it could accelerate under the high stress pressures of presidency
they better strap a huge can of red bull to his back with attached straw

How out of touch he "is," not "has." Ugh...

Same applies to McPapen.

Genius. It's almost as if that Davis White dude was on the staff of Comedy Central. The McCain campaign is so lame, Stewart/Colbert almost don't even need writers.

Hey, Stewart also skewers MoveOn.org pretty well in this episode. Will C&L be posting that clip?

True, and pandering seems to have the opposite effect. If McCain wasn't trying so hard to be one with the young people, he wouldn't appear so out of touch (and thus, old).

Perhaps this belongs several posts back regarding McCain's many flip-flops and the media pass he's getting, but there's a great article on this over at The Nation.

There's a guy who lives somewhere in my neighborhood who drives a pickup truck and he has a horn on the truck that sounds exactly like the horn on a freight train. I laugh whenever I hear it. There are no train tracks for like twenty or more miles from my house.

Maybe if they put one of those horns on the McCain bus, at least it would be funny, if not cool.

It's not his age that makes him "old". It's how undeniably out of touch he is with anything that was invented after 1947.

Again, wet blankets! There's too many of em here!

Again, I wouldn't consider a joke about Muslims and turbans and Dawkins and his prickliness to be funny, or an "ethnic" joke about Obama.

Same applies to McPapen.

thanks for demonstrating the definition of "wet blanket" so succinctly.

"old" equals "out of touch" in this context. you have heard that words can have more than one meaning, haven't you? and that comedy, e.g. double entendre, plays off that by deliberately using words that evoke other meanings as to...

oh nevermind, explaining comedy to wet blankets sucks.

Reminds me of the youth-oriented recruiting videos the Marines show teenagers complete with Marines playing video games, rapping in on-base hip-hop groups, and showing off cool weapons. Meant to be cool, but so not.

Except McCain's bus tour isn't even as well done. Pathetic propaganda that's way off base.

They could have at least given that "kid" some halfway cool clothes to wear. He looked like a straight-laced Christian missionary. Take that Hollywood.

No shit. Maybe they have been slightly cooler and hired a door to door Mormon teenager in a suit to do the tour.

WE ALL LOVE A LITTLE BUSH @ 75:

his age is only a part of it.... but it is a BIG part.... i am waiting for the announcements....

OCTOBER.... surprise announcement JEB BUSH on the ticket

NOVEMBER.... surprise announcement VOTING MACHINES QUESTIONED but GOP judges back the election of McCain

DECEMBER.... taken with an unspecified illness to an undisclosed location, OLD MAN MCCAIN has disappeared and JEB takes the OVAL OFFICE

JANUARY.... surprise announcement, bombing of IRAN going well

You got it.
Like a slow motion train wreck ...

Did you just call Obama a racist?

I don't wanna hear this crap about not targeting McCain's 'age'.
This man is a disgrace to his uniform and his country! Him and his bigot brigade are calling on terrorists to strike America so his ugly ass can get elected!
Not to mention his 115 lobbyist team with many of them supporting the worst governments of the 20th century!

As far as I'm concerned, ALL BETS, and I mean ALL are off. He chose to play this game; he chose to break the rules; he can't cry now cuz he's losin'.

what exactly is a wet blanket again ?

Ahem.

"Noun. A miserable person unwilling to participate in an enjoyable event or moment. Derog."

fair enough.

:)

I don't thin Stewart is funny anymore. He barely takes McCain on--seems too fond of him.
Keeps using Barack's middle name. I think he is the only person who does that.
