Given Obama's huge edge with younger voters, the McCain campaign is trying to capture a portion of that demographic with some admirable, though pathetic, youth outreach efforts. From the "Straight Talk Express" version of "Cribs" to the riveting "Pork Invaders" video game, Jon Stewart shows why McCain just doesn't get it.

To me, the attempts by the McCain campaign to be cool, are foolish and demeaning to him and his whole campaign.

Yes Jon, we know you love him too. Perhaps you could focus on some of his more egregious policy positions, and not his fish-in-a-barrel target of simply being old and lame. John Kerry was old and lame, but he would have made a better president than chimpy.

People watch The Daily Show because it is comedy. If Stewart started preaching or getting serious, they would change the channel. The fact that there is truth in jest is just a plus.

Dems have plenty of ammo to hit McSame with w/o having to call him 'old' . He'll just get more sympathy if that is all he gets attacked for. McSame will make the 'old' argument for us just by appearing on TV and even more so when he appears with Obama. Lets leave that to the subliminabably challenged.
I noticed that Colbert and Stewart recently attacked Obama for his Campaign finance 'opinion change'. They both had entire segments on this subject. When McSame flip-flops, it's just a passing mention, if that.
The fact that THESE TWO guys are jumping on the 'Obama is a flip-flopper' bandwagon, is troubling.
One thing about insulting someone because he's old like Stewart did, it is just as wrong as insulting Obama because he's racist, Keith Ellison because he's Muslim, or Richard Dawkins because he's atheist.

I think it's more about being in touch than being old.

Even John Stewart himself has said that if you're looking at him to bring you proper political journalism, you're in deep trouble.
If John attacked everyone that went on his show, he'd barely have any guests left.

The McCain campaign strategists know they are up against a huge problem- they are trying to win with a candidate that will be a third term of the most unpopular president in history.

Nothing worse than an elderly person trying to act young. We've all seen them. People dressing like they are teens when it is very very apparent that they aren't. I'm down here in Florida so I see it year round and especially during the winter when all the snow birds are down here.
When you see someone doing this, you know they are not happy with themselves and are trying to return to a happier time in their lives. They want to pretend they are as cool as they ever were. When you see an older person who is comfortable with their age they are admirable, at least they appear that way to me. They know who they are and they don't feel the need to pretend to be anything else.
McCain and his campaign are not going to appeal to young people by trying to be one of them. The harder they try, the older they will appear. At some point people will become embarrassed for then and look the other way.

yeah, stewart has his moments. which have become fewer and far between as of late. and, at least to me, it is obvious that he 'plays nice' with mccain, when others (say, his interviews with chris matthews) get utterly destroyed by stewart.
that said, i am much more concerned with our shit-sucking, piss poor, journalistic-failing, cowed, access-addicted, media whore, "news" stations than i am with comedy central. (cnn, please burn in hell).

Perhaps this belongs several posts back regarding McCain's many flip-flops and the media pass he's getting, but there's a great article on this over at The Nation.
There's a guy who lives somewhere in my neighborhood who drives a pickup truck and he has a horn on the truck that sounds exactly like the horn on a freight train. I laugh whenever I hear it. There are no train tracks for like twenty or more miles from my house.
Maybe if they put one of those horns on the McCain bus, at least it would be funny, if not cool.

It was funny. I like to watch those shows because its less stressful. It comes on after the other "news" shows. I need a laugh especially after watching FOX. Steward and Colbert make fun of everyone but not a much a Southpark. They leave no prisoners. Now we can't make fun of McBush's age?

John McStale has no sense of humor. Oh, he may laugh and joke but he isn't with it. He doesn't do nuance. Republicans don't do nuance.
By being on the Jon Stewart show it shows the audience just how whitebread he is. The joke's on him and he can't ever figure this out. He's thinking, Hey! I must be cool! I'm on The Daily Show.
