Mike's Blog Roundup
skippy the bush kangaroo: The impertinent skippy had the gall to write to three journalists, questioning them on why the press corps insisted on framing Obama as "arrogant" in the presidential seal story when McCain's own senatorial campaign committee did the same thing. Two ignored him, and another reacted the way royalty always does.

....frist just doesn't have the thrill it used to anymore. *sigh*
Kinda off thread... but McCain seems to be having a hard time making his point speaking at the Latino conference in Washington. They just took the 3rd protester out... and it looks like he cut things short. He does have the guts to take questions, but I'm wondering how well that's gonna go over.
Crowd looks a little thin to me as well. CNN just carried it live.
the presidential seal is belong to them?
Now listening to McShame saying that immigration reform is his top priority "today, yesterday and tomorrow". At the NALEAO, Latino officials. Love to see the media hold him to that Lie.
I emailed Jonathan Weisman about his column on Obama's blackness.
He emailed me back saying he was sorry for his stupid comments.
Wow!!
Why are Americans so scared of women?
Harriet Christian. She exemplifies what Americans fear in a woman Commander in Chief. Emotional and irrational instead of reasonable and logical.
Few things frustrate a man more than a woman speaking in extremes and absolutes: "You always ...." "You never ....." Thanks to "Men are from Mars; Women are from Venus," many women feel this sort of communication is vindicated.
But it carries over into other situations. Because there certainly were misogynistic comments made about Hillary, her supporters assume EVERY criticism of her arose from sexism. Harriet Christian's ranting is too reminiscent of Muslims rioting in the streets because of Danish cartoons.
Barack Obama eventually completely repudiated the views of Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Hillary Clinton never repudiated Harriet Christian. Campaigning with Obama ensures that she will not be remembered with the disaffection Democrats feel for Ralph Nader. But, in order for her campaign to actually crack the glass ceiling, she needs to repudiate the claims of sexism. She needs to recant the claim that her victories in Florida and Michigan should have been counted. She needs to boldly admit that she lost because the other team played better, rather than claim that the referees were biased.
Ruth @ 4:
Obama is up now... seems he is getting a much warmer reception. CNN commentary pointed out a few minutes ago that the protesters were wearing badges and appeared to be members attending the conference and not 'infiltrators'.
The Iran issue
Is Israel planning to bomb Iran (El Baradei says he will resign if this happens)

Is Israel Preparing to Bomb Iran?
The New York Times reported Friday that Israel recently carried out a major military exercise that Pentagon officials say appeared to be a rehearsal for a potential bombing attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. More than 100 Israeli F-16 and F-15 fighter planes took part in the maneuvers over the eastern Mediterranean and Greece. [includes rush transcript]

Aipac has been pushing war with Iran for five years
Here is the latest false claim at their website RIGHT NOW about what El Baradei says about Iran
IAEA Chief: Iran Could Build Nuclear Bomb in Six Months
ElBaradei warned of Iran’s enrichment activity.
IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei recently said that with Iran’s current nuclear capabilities, the country would need “six months to one year” in order to produce one atomic bomb. “It would need this period to produce a weapon, and to obtain highly-enriched uranium in sufficient quantities for a single nuclear weapon,” ElBaradei said. The interview, which aired on Al-Arabiya TV on June 20, was translated by MEMRI. In recent months, Iran has accelerated its efforts to enrich uranium - a key step toward developing nuclear weapons - violating multiple binding U.N. Security Council demands that the Islamic Republic suspend its illicit nuclear program.
Sounds like this interpretation of what El Baradei has said has more than likely come through Aipac’s broken filters.
El Baradei has said that he will resign if Israel strikes Iran

Surprise..It was about oil
Oh, no, they told us, Iraq isn't a war about oil. That's cynical and simplistic, they said. It's about terror and al-Qaeda and toppling a dictator and spreading democracy and protecting ourselves from weapons of mass destruction. But one by one, these concocted rationales went up in smoke, fire and ashes. And now the bottom line turns out to be ... the bottom line. It is about oil.

US Congress approves Israel aid increase
AFP
Published: Friday June 27, 2008
The US Congress has approved a 170 million dollar increase in security assistance to Israel as part of its new 10-year, 30 billion dollar defense aid commitment to the Jewish state.

So while the U.S. vs Rosen http://ftp.fas.org/sgp/jud/aipac/index.html (two Aipac officials "allegedly" gave Israeli officials classified intelligence about Iran) trial continues to be delayed our Congress gives Israel more money. Hmmmm
The Aipac investigation and trial is the trial that no one in the MSM will report anything about and even in the so called progressive blogosphere folks are intimidated to write about it.
My comments regarding Tim Russert have been stripped from this site, so I'm glad C&L are posting a link (albeit buried) to someone with some sense who is standing up against the "universally fawning tributes" to him. He was a respected, honored journalist, which is for me his greatest crime: He showed other journalists in the field that you can still retain the aura of integrity & respectability while pandering heart & soul to the corporate power elite. He "grilled" the politicians on how well they knew their own narrative, but he rarely challenged the validity of the narrative itself. He gave respectability to being a hack, which most journalists in America are happily following.
I e-mailed Feinstein the story about the reporter's laptop being confiscated and thanked her for voting in the Bush FISA bill. I suggest everyone do likewise.
jon @ 12:
Feinstein voted for the war, voted for the warmongering Kyl LIeberman amendment, and voted for Mukasey. See a pattern here?
Her family has profited from this illegal and immoral war and Feinstein should be investigated

Thanks for covering skippy's saga.
As for Weisman, he can be dismissive, but he admitted his error, sorta, in the chat itself, and it's good he apologized.
