Bush praises McCain for Expansion of the GI Bill that he had no part in: Say, what?
I may be forced to start a "Say, what?" series...What the heck is Bush smoking? Let's see the press corps ask Dana Perino about this latest distortion. We all know that McCain was vehemently opposed to Webb's GI bill. According to him, we can't have GI's receiving adequate compensation because 16% might not stay in the service. Yea, so let's ask "My Friends" McCain, what a soldier's life is worth?
This is rank dishonesty by Bush and maybe the straight talker will correct the record for Bush. You know, since he's such a straight talker. Hell, maybe Richard Cohen will write a nice op-ed about it all. OK, that will never happen so let's ask him to...cohenr@washpost.com

i'm sooooo glad i wasn't the only person to notice that sh!t this morning. he kinda just tried to slide mccain's name in there at the end, even though mcbush opposed the bill, didn't co-sponser it, nor did he even bother to show up to VOTE on it (thereby leaving room to take credit for a bill he opposed...u know...kinda like not supporting the immigration bill he co-authored).
And the hits just keep on coming.
I saw this on tv this morning when it happened. Notice the little smirky smile that came over bush's face when he said McCain's name. He knew damned well that McCain did not support this but he also knew damned well most of the people watching him didn't know it.
Lying seems to be something that bush enjoys doing if he can smile while doing it.
It doesn't matter what the truth is, only what is said on TV. History as it is being rewritten will show Bush was a great President and that Clinton was to blame for everything. How do we stop the rewriting of history? Oh, Impeach the fool!
I hope to christ that someone other than us bloggers reports this and HAMMERS these douche bags on this. For W to express thanks for a bill he so clearly did not support and then throw a bone to his successor for his work is baffling.
I'd love to see some intrepid reporter get McCrazy all fired up by pressing the issue about him opposing this increase in benefits.
boosh is fucking liar and this is just another part of the republican campaign fraud. Just like the falllacy that Obama is a Muslim, now the uniformed will think McCain supported the GI bill.
so where are trhe reports that mcC*nt didn't vote for the bill?
Gimme a fuckin' break already. McCain was AWOL during the vote on the GI Bill. And this lying sack of shit uses a throwaway line to fluff up Grampa Munster.
Obviously, Dubya is uncircumsized because there's just no end to the prick.
Tonight on Countdown - Which does this fall under - Worst Persons? Bushed?
Oh, I'm sure Andrea Mitchell and Mika will be all over this in the morning just as they were all upset over what General Clark said yesterday. Not!
maybe KO will have a moment with this!
In that case, the republicans might trot out another candidate!
The mutual masturbation that is the Neocon lie continues...
C'mon John, don't be so silly. You know the GOP simply repeats a lie so many times that it magically morphs into the truth.
And the response from the reich-wing MSM: *crickets chirping*
Psst, hey Georgie, you forgot to mention your ol' pal Lieberman.
Typical repuke asshattery. Remind me again who the bags of filth are that voted for this lying fool? Twice?
I must admit a bit of glee when I arrive on a thread with a picture of dubya and I see that even the trolls are calling that piece of boosh-shit a fucking liar.
That is refreshing. Very refreshing!
Lying has become an art form with this administration. Let's see when some reporter confronts McCain about this. Suggestion, don't hold your breath.
McCain correct the record? Why would you do that when everyone's got their talking points in order? see: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/27/mccain-takes-credit-for-g_n_109...
McCain was the most vocal opponent of the new GI bill. He did not even bother to vote.
Is this the Matrix? He all ways votes against things that will benefit the military. This is just a recent sample
– Voted AGAINST an amendment providing $20 billion to the VA’s medical facilities. [5/4/06]
– Voted AGAINST providing $430 million to the VA for outpatient care “and treatment for veterans,” one of only 13 senators to do so. [4/26/06]
– Voted AGAINST increasing VA funding by $1.5 billion by closing corporate loopholes. [3/14/06]
– Voted AGAINST increasing VA funding by $1.8 billion by ending “abusive tax loopholes.” [3/10/04]
"Rank dishonesty" from a Bush? I'm shocked and awed.
Bushies invent their own reality and then push the propaganda. They know most people, including the corporate media, won't bother to check.
Okay, who forgot that BushCo is famous for being liars and thieves? Don't make me come over there!
This was surely early enough in the day for the Daily Sho...ohhh, shit, Stewart's on vacation again this week, again, innhe?
so did the cnn chatterbunny come back with the facts and correct the misleading statement?
Yep. We are in bizarro-world.
In order for the Bush administration not to get called on this kind of bullshit and many other things, the media has to be pretty much on his side. What's amazing is that the twenty eight per cent that like this joker haven't kicked him to the curb and still believe him.
That's the beauty of the Big Lie. If you tell big enough lies, often enough, and nobody calls you on 'em, You NEVER Have To Tell The Truth! and nobody will notice.
DC @ 9:
I believe Keith's got a Special Comment on tap tonight.
Man these Republicans will lie about anything.
DC @ 30:
EVERYTHING
McCain will never correct Bush because McCain is Bush
Watch this:

AOHH!! Paw-Paw! The keuwlest meyun in taowen. Regardez! How the lies have aged this M-F'er. Dem chiken strings poppin out under his nik as he (mr.prez) so elegantly slides away from the podium....Gotta Luv 'em!
GI Bill for GI Joe
Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
I love the way Bush just sorta added McCain's name in at the end like no one would notice.
He purposely didn't say Senator McCain so that it would draw conscious attention to it.
By the way, how come the media took Wesley Clarks comments and put a "Clark Challenges' McCains War Record" graphic behind it?
He never challenged the man's service to the USA, he merely said that he had never had experience leading a combat operation or a national crisis and therefore couldn't be using that in contrast to Obama, who has never made such a claim in the first place.
It's not even funny anymore!
Less'eat mor chiken!
Again, where the fuck is Obama and his surrogates? They should be hammering McCain for this.
Go Murray!
linda @ 25:
Good point!
we know the truth and he knows the truth..........but what do the masses believe and hear...........and people want to say this won't be a third bush term......bush wants mccain to win not just under party loyalty but because mccain being in office will dilute bush's failures and continue the destabilizing of the middle east
I doubt more than a handful of us crazy people who keep up with this stuff even heard what bush said today, but bush decided to throw a lying bone to McCain, just to see what would happen.
Of course if Senator Obama had coughed today during his speech about patriotism, the media would be all over it. They would say it was a code cough to the enemy or some such foolishness.
In 2000 Bush got away without anyone noticing that he took credit for a Texas “Patient Bill Of Rights” that he fought tooth and nail. He and McCain are just giving it another try.
By the way, McCain has already taken credit on this.
You may THINK Bush is stupid but Bush KNOWS how stupid the American people are and he proves it over and over again.
ROFL
Bush is either INSANE, DRUGGED, A LIAR or plain STUPID.
Come to think of it, probably all the above

Subject: column suggestion - "Bush Gives McCain False Credit For Supporting New G.I. Bill"
Body Text: There, even wrote the title for ya, ya shameless plutocrap tool hack.
;-}
My bet is on the last one, just plain STUPID.
Can I just say that I will be so very glad not to hear the sound of this man's voice coming at me on the radio and the news every day after January 20th of 2009.
linda @ 25:
Oooh - 'chatterbunny.' I like it. May I use it in conversation?
next thing you know, the media will call it the McCain-Webb GI Bill...
Why not! <a href="Why not.......McCain gave himself credit in Ohio last week.">McCain patted himself on the back for passing the bill last week.
Now that's messed up, but the link is good.
Why would bush praise mccain for taking a stand that he himself was against? Hmmm, could it be, as BobD (#4) said, to rewrite history? I'm sick. When the fascists own the 'truth,' I don't see a way out.
ucsbclassics53 @ 48:
or the McCain-Lieberman & the oh yeah Webb too GI Bill.
PUH-LEASE Obama!!! PUH-LEASE call them on this!!
Thx
karl @ 39:
And McCain will derail any investigation of the Bush cartel by stocking DOJ with sycophants.
Radically Moderate @ 52:
You think they'd actually include Webb's name?
this is all going so well! why doesn't mcBooshC*nt take credit for that?
pissed off patricia @ 40:
What?!! Obama used a secret coughing code in his message about patriotism today?! I knew it. Them Mooslims never give up...
I am particularly grateful to Congressmen Boehner, Hoyer, Obey, and Lewis. And I want to thank members who worked hard for the GI Bill expansion -- especially Senators Webb and Warner, Graham, Burr, and McCain.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2008/06/20080630.html
They did not even correct it on the White house website.
He is grateful to Boehner, Hoyer, Obey and Lewis but he especially wants to the senators that worked hard for the Bill, Webb, Warner, Graham and McCain
Don't worry, no one but the people reading C&L are paying attention. The rest of America have been lobotomized. Carry on.
Rachael Maddow sitting in for David Gregory on MSNBC now

This is soooooooo"1984". How can Shrub give even partial credit to a Senator who spoke out against the bill, gave BS reasons why it was bad ("It will hurt recruitment.") and wasn't even present to vote for or against the bill because he was at a fundraiser!!!
I've really had it with both of these dipwads. Chimpy and McSame are both rich. Why can't these morons just find nice jobs in the private sector and stay the fuck out of government.
he always was, and always will be a lying sack of deceitful shit.
What a disgrace to this country's history, and believe me, we have a few of them.
Time for another STERN letter to the whitehouse!
No one is attacking McCain for these lies.....shame
Yea, McLame supported the GI bill and China is drilling off the coast of Florida. God they give me a headache.
Everybody knows by now that Dumbya will fabricate or lie about anything, but intelligent Americans are way ahead of the Reslug total bullshit by now.
Can you imagine if Bill Clinton has said something like this? How many days straight would the media have gone after him for it. Hell, they would have launched a second impeachment proceeding...
This is so typical Republican tactics, it's literally unbelievable.
Proud2bHumble @ 44:
I think you are being way too kind. :)
Phantom(God of Hellfire) @ 45:
No, I don't think so. Rather, stupid like a fox. Just like the three top beneficiaries of the Iraq war are companies like Halliburton, Blackwater and Exxon. Do you really think that is stupid? Some coincidence, huh?
PorridgeGun @ 37:
Obama is a wimp & will lose. His apology for General Clark
proved this guy is a weasel. We Democrats sure know how
to pick a candidate. :-(
StirFry @ 6:
Yeah, and the shame/sad thing about this is that MOST are so fucking uninformed,
they will actually believe the lie told by that smirking asshole bush. The Dems must
set the record straight...and repeat, repeat, repeat the truth about McShame's position.
Wait a second. Didn't Bush threaten to veto this bill?
http://www.vawatchdog.org/08/nf08/nfMAY08/nf052308-1.htm
And now he's claiming credit and praising others who opposed the bill for its passage?
Do you think this will get any mention at all in the MSM?
I think Barack Obama should be the one to call the Pres. on the carpet for this one. It's an important campaign issue. It is a full-blown misrepresentation of the facts. Obama should challange Bush to make a retraction... just to highlight the type of policy changes Obama will work for in the future.
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Democratic Party Victory Over SCLM and DIEBOLD! @ 98:
Sadly it is not Bush who is stupid. He knows the apathetic public all too well. Do you really think the majority of the American voters even know this GI bill was voted on let alone who introduced it. Or do they care. If it isn't on American Idol, Dancing w/the Stars, or America's Funniest Home Videos the people don't see it. Karl and George know all too well how it works.
Rove's fingerprints are all over the Wes Clark slamming. Who else would have made sure all the msm pundits knew just what to say.
I am so disappointed in Obama today. He really jerked the rug out from under Clark and couldn't wait to kiss McCain's a**. He knows full well what Clark said and that it was true but we can't make the repugs mad now can we. After the vote on FISA and now this Obama has lost points with me. As if he cares.
Bill Clinton, much as I hate to say it, better jump on the Obama wagon soon. Obama needs help badly. Do whatever it takes Barack to get Bill to help you figure out how to fight back. McCain is bad mouthing Obama and what does Obama do. Practically apologizes for what Clark said. Keep it up Obama and you won't have anyone who wants to be your VP. You keep kicking them down.
LET`S JUST REMEMBER THAT THE LAST GUY HAD A C- AVERAGE
AND THIS GUY FINISHED NEAR LAST IN MILITARY SCHOOL!
every person blogging emailing texting needs to read the project for a new american century!AKA THE NEW WORL ORDER! if you have`nt read do so ASAP! i hear people say that obama scares! take a read of this document that all of the NEO-CONS SIGNED OFF ON! go to PNAC.COM AND YES WE SHOULD BE SCARED VERY SCARED OF PEOPLE WHO THINK IN THIS MANNER! i`m just catching up on things! (been laid off work) and i see that the old bunch is up to their same old tricks!
Typical. Up is down. Hot is cold. Thank you Senator for supporting the legislation that you didn't support. This administration has zero credibility except for 23% of the population.
WTF. McCain didn't even bother to vote for the new GI Bill. He was too busy eating chili or something.
...Not to mention that Bush and McCain were against the GI Bill...
Mike the Riverine @ 8:
That's one of the best characterizations of booosh I've ever read. BZ
I SWEAR THE MAN WOULD RATHER LIE WHEN THE TRUTH WOULD FIT BETTER!!! What a wus!
Undone @ 58:
Wait - the SAME Graham that voted AGAINST the bill? If this isn't bizarro-world, I don't know what is. America is becoming a parody of itself...
