here's to hoping that if/when davey addington travels outside america he is picked up and put on trial at the hague for war crimes.

seems our country has lost the ability to hold war criminals accountable for their crimes against humanity.

If we invade Iran, we've effectively signed our death warrant. Iran is four times the size of Iraq, with mountains included as well, and three times the population. To mount an invasion of Iran and occupy it for one year requires the entire US budget allotted for the Department of Defense for this year, and that's Iran alone. Sooner or later, every empire gets too big for its britches. When Tsar Nicholas II mobilized in 1914, he started WWI. He ended his empire on the day he started mobilization. Attacking Iran is the stupidest thing Bush and his goons could do.

This is doing the rounds in european financial media.

"BRUSSELS/AMSTERDAM - Fortis Bank expects a complete collapse of the US financial markets within a few days to weeks. That explains, according to Fortis, the series of interventions of last Thursday to retrieve 8 billion. “We have been saved just in time. The situation in the US is much worse than we thought”, says Fortis chairman Maurice Lippens. Fortis expects bankruptcies amongst 6000 American banks which have a small coverage currently. But also Citigroup, General Motors, there is starting a complete meltdown in the US” "

"Barclays warns of disaster as Fed loses all credibility

The Telegraph, London

Barclays Capital has advised clients to batten down the hatches for a worldwide financial storm, warning that the US Federal Reserve has allowed the inflation genie out of the bottle and let its credibility fall "below zero."

"We're in a nasty environment," said Tim Bond, the bank's chief equity strategist. "There is an inflation shock under way. This is going to be very negative for financial assets. We are going into tortoise mood and are retreating into our shell. Investors will do well if they can preserve their wealth."

So Fortis is a maybe relatively small player, but what is the temperature on Wall Street these days?

There is no reassurance when it comes to this administration, they've taken every stupid thing there is for a US administration to do, and done it. About the only thing they haven't done, which is kinda ironic considering Bush's Crusader rhetoric, is stir up the Maronites against the Sunni and the Shia. Well that, and invade some random Latin American nation for the hell of it. An attack on Iran would be worse for us than the Tsar's decision to enter a war against an industrial power with a mostly agricultural economy when his subjects hated his guts.

Except in the worst-case scenario, the US government effectively collapses, along with this technological era, so that even the media won't be able to blame it on Obama, because communication will be right back in the 1st Century again.

It's as if we are being blackmailed. The administration is saying if it looks like you guys are going to elect Obama, we're going to bomb Iran before he takes office. On the other hand, if it looks like you are going to elect McCain, we won't bomb Iran and you can gamble on when he will do it.

Israel is driving this.

there is a great argument in the last 'OPEN THREAD' about that topic.

I'll sum it up for you:
neocons in the us along with oil interests
and
likud/zionists in israel
are
The same idiot minorities driving the agenda of both countries.

NeoCons are at most 18% and dropping in the US
Zionists are a small minority in Israel.
in both countries, the timid majority has suppressed it's own voice, whether in deference to or in cowardice of, these jerks who are apparently willing to destroy civilization, rather than give up power.

First Holy Communion:

Second grade. Endless weeks of classes and practicing with Neco Wafers. First Confession to erase all the sins a seven year old could muster. White shirt. White pants. White socks. White shoes. White tie. White jacket.

White Nuns. White Priests. White Communion wafer. Stuck to the roof of my mouth.

Pomp and ceremony. Solemn occasion.

Jesus Christ himself would have had none of it.

"This is my body. Whenever you eat this think of me."

Simple. Straightforward.

Not true. Never happened.

Hard for me to get upset with someone taking the wafer without being a Catholic, but of course it is a sacrilege in the eyes of the Catholic Church. A church silent about torture and unforgivable war.

And a church that conducted torture, promoted slavery if not ignoring it, and actually endorsed war, especially if there's gold for it's coffers.

Excellent link to The Existentialist Cowboy showing George Carlin's concert entitled We Like War. Perhaps the two best things that the United States excels at today is making weapons and using those weapons to bombs countries, as Carlin points out, that contain brown skinned people. The one slim hope is that the soldiers in the military today will emulate their colleagues from forty or so years ago by taking part in another GI rebellion. It is long past the point that military personnel realize that Iraqis and Afghanis, like the Vietnamese, have never threatened or harmed anyone in these United States. It would appear that by employing such a belligerent foreign policy, the United States will soon have, outside of Israel, no other countries that it can claim as its allies.

Zionists are a small minority in Israel.

No offense, nothing personal, but you don't know what you're talking about. Present day Israel is more than 70% Zionist, just look at polls regarding settlement expansion. The Post Zionist movement in Israel is a recent phenomenon and a small minority.

The Catholic hierarchy was against Iraq and Afghanistan from the beginning. The Protestant churches remained silent. It's like in Nazi Germany where the only people that dared to speak up from the pulpit were more often Catholic then Protestant.

Catholicism has its share of problems, but the hierarchy has opposed Iraq and Afghanistan while many Protestant churches not only were not silent, but actively supported slaughter.
