Shakesville: Were the hecklers in a 'free speech zone?'
Majikthise: Propriety dictates that if one can't say something good about someone, they should say nothing. Okay...Jesse Helms is dead. Good.
Open Left: Congressional races looking up for Dems
Barry Crimmins: Call Me Lucky
OFF THE BEATEN PATH: Joe Bageant, Democratic Veteran, World-O-Crap, Old Fashioned Patriot

Ya know something, folks? I am going to vote for Obama, but even if McCain wins -
at least I won't have to listen to that shitkicker southern accent coming out of the president's
mouth for a few years. GOD I am weary of that folksy horseshit.
"According to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey, 69 percent of adult Americans who responded to a poll June 26-29 said the signers of the Declaration of Independence would be disappointed by the way the nation has turned out overall.
Twenty-nine percent responded "pleased," the only other choice given to the 1,026 respondents of the telephone poll."
They would start another revolution if they were alive and disband both parties. They spew they fought and died to protect our freedom but our government steals our freedom, so they died in vain.
Only ignorant cowards support this hypocrisy and are failed Americans. Period.
getalife @ 2:
That 29% figure turns up a lot in US politics. 29% still support and believe this war in Iraq is a just war. 29% have stayed supporting bush for 7 years.
The 29% figure is Americas Moron factor.
Whats next with the Dems? Performing mass-marriages and telling the followers not to eat meat on Fridays?
MSM gets it wrong once again. No GOP 527s exists! McCain was just holding them back until Obama said I will take public financing then McCain would have turned them loose. Once again Obama shows he knows what he is doing.
Next week, Vets for Freedom -- 20,000-member, nonpartisan organization established by combat veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan – plans to begin spending more than $1 million on a TV campaign that will include Ohio, Virginia and New Mexico.
The group plans to spend millions more and to add other states to the roster.
The ad, the largest independent expenditure on a national-security theme in the general election so far, features a number of vets speaking about the success of the surge and the need to finish the job.

That's because he's a Connecticut Yankee trying to sound Texan. If you want to hear Texan before it disappears, it's sounds something like Ann Richards or LBJ. The rest of us from the TV generation tend to sound generic mid-western.
Still celebrating Jesse's death!!!!
Welcome to the Banana Republic called The United States of America:
Another problem for Mr. Dollar is that it will be several months before his actions take effect. Officials with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have informed Bernanke about a plan that would have been unheard-of in the past: a general examination of the US financial system. The IMF's board of directors has ruled that a so-called Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP) is to be carried out in the United States. It is nothing less than an X-ray of the entire US financial system.
As part of the assessment, the Fed, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the major investment banks, mortgage banks and hedge funds will be asked to hand over confidential documents to the IMF team. They will be required to answer the questions they are asked during interviews. Their databases will be subjected to so-called stress tests -- worst-case scenarios designed to simulate the broader effects of failures of other major financial institutions or a continuing decline of the dollar.
Under its bylaws, the IMF is charged with the supervision of the international monetary system. Roughly two-thirds of IMF members -- but never the United States -- have already endured this painful procedure.
For seven years, US President George W. Bush refused to allow the IMF to conduct its assessment. Even now, he has only given the IMF board his consent under one important condition. The review can begin in Bush's last year in office, but it may not be completed until he has left the White House. This is bad news for the Fed chairman.
When the final report on the risks of the US financial system is released in 2010 -- and it is likely to cause a stir internationally -- only one of the people in positions of responsiblity today will still be in office: Ben Bernanke.

Bet you will not ever see an article like this in the MSM....
♠Bangkok Bob♥ @ 3:
100% Correct. The thing is, the Republican Party, the MSM and the DC crowd all honestly believe that that 29% reflects the views of everyone in the country. It doesn't - those 29% are so far out in "Jesusland" they no longer have anything in common with the rest of us here in the 21st Century.
MAJeff @ 7:
Amen.
It's not about politics here - there was nothing good or decent in that man. He was a wicked, mean-spirited, vile old bigot who took pleasure in the misery of anyone who happened to be born different from him.
DC @ 5:
Vets for Freedom is not non-partisan or bipartisan. It is a front for the Bush Administration. It is managed by hard-core Republicans, many of whom have worked in the Bush Admnistration, and it is funded by big GOP fundraisers. Many of its staffers have also worked for the RNC, conservative media outlets like the Weekly Standard, and Republican members of Congress and Senators, including John McCain himself. To call it non-partisan is simply ridiculous.
Tomorrow on, Meet the Devil, Tim Russert interviews Jesse Helms.
I always wondered about Jesse's collection of little shoes.
Let us not forget the millions who died because he was homophobic.
As far as I am concerned he is the father of the AIDS epidemic.
While he busied himself with pictures of penises.
