Actually, Canuknotusa, that is exactly the thing that makes this "broken" country livable, any country's people for that matter that are free to express themselves- the ability to laugh at our(them)selves while attempting to right the ship. I understand what you're saying, but, as bullfrog said, it is better than bloodshed. Was it "necessary"? No. Nothing is necessary other than the necessities, but it may well be "needed" or "desired" when one has what is known as freedom of expression. Would that the world, every citizen on the planet, were allowed to express themselves in such a manner as they choose, humanity would be better served. Think Shakespeare, Picasso, etc, applying their talents to communicate their discontent with the powers that be.
