Daily Show: Obama in Berlin vs. McCain in the supermarket

Jon Stewart juxtaposes how the two candidates spent their Thursdays.

"But watching Senator Obama address a crowd of 200,000 in Germany while Senator McCain addresses a crowd of two in the frozen food section..."

That about sums it up.

He's bloody old. No other way around that puppy.

Just love how the Republican party screwed up on this one. There is only one way out of it...Ka-BOOM!

Kinda sums it all up. I wonder if he knows how to use a shopping cart?

A massive, Berlin-esque rally as soon as Obama gets back to the states would be nice. Of course, it would have had to have been planned well in advance, but a hundred thousand or so on the National Mall would have shut up the latest "Why isn't Obama in the US? Why does he hate America?" right wing talking point.

Excitement and energy level are key this year - turning out the younger, tolerant, hopeful generations and hoping enough old, bitter, conservative racists have died off or stay home is the only chance we've got to break the race barrier.

To be fair, I think he was in the applesauce aisle.

Uh, Hellooooo.

This race is close.

It shouldn't be.

john, the value mark toilet paper's on sale in aisle 10 for $0.59. rough as sandpaper, but when ya gotta choose between good tp & good beer, the booze always wins. but you know that, don'cha?

i bet you dig on that bud-filled waterbed.

there is no way mccain is going to finish this out.
get ready for that romney dude. he will come out of the gate fast
and will not have to face too much scrutiny in such a short amount of time.
the press may poise themselves to love him.

McGigalo is telling that woman to fill the cart with Budweiser, so he can keep the campaign bus rolling.

EVERY MINUTE of Laura Ingrahm and Sean Hannity have become antio Obama NEGATIVE BULLSHIT. It is tiresom to listen to. Neither one of those a**holes can even think of something nice to say about McSame. They both want to bring Ronny RayGun back from his happy hunting ground.

The Main Stream MEdia continues to berate THE ONE on every turn... and give THE OLD ONE a pass every time he has an ELDER-MOMENT. So the polls run closer than they should. THIS is where they have to be so that Republican Election Managers will be able to TWEAK the vote count outcome via the MAJIC of electronic voting so that The Old One wins by a couple of points in important swing states.

The result will be that the Republicans are getting ready to STEAL THE THIRD NATIONAL ELECTION in a row.

I love how MSM avoided showing the cans falling over! Meanwhile the right-wing fanatics are screaming how Obama is somehow dangerous because our allies like him(?) Oh well, I never understood Right-wingers, and they don't understand the middleclass of the USA. And I think many are starting to realize it.

"campaign clean up in aisle 2" that was priceless. Sidney McSame did turn around cluelessly like the old man in the grocery who would knock over the apple sauce unknowingly and then turn around with that "did I do that" look/jesture. Poor Sidney McSame.

The bar set for the Oval Office was set very low for Bush and McCain. The bar set for Obama is very high. Yes Americans mush dig deep to see if Obama meets the full requirements to be President. If he gets a 99.9 he's out. Bush and McCain need to get only .000001 to qualify as President. We saw how Americans asked no questions about Bush even after hearing he skipped out of serving the US Military and knowing he's a drunk, druggie and can't read wasn't enough to put him in as President of the United States. McCain can't remember one day for the next nor does he know what he's saying about Foreign countries but he's still leading in the polls. Americans would rather lose the United States then to have a qualified black man lead the recovery of the United States.

Reading about the Civil War and how Lincoln called for blacks to join in and do their part as Americans. Thousands of blacks died to help bring the United States to the great country it is today. But their lives meant nothing as McCain forgets Blacks have served in all US Wars. What's funny is how Whites accept Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan yet act like other blacks are trash. This election will show the World if the US has moved pass prejudice or if we are moving backward to our pass.

My daughter is serving in the US Military and I voted for Hillary, why? Because she was the best qualified candidate in the Primary and I listened to John Kennedy and Dr. King when they said judge a person by their charter not the color of they skin and ask not what you country can do for you ask what you can do for your country.

You have to go back to the Ford era to find a politico who is this inept and naff at the use of the media... and the use of his brain. McCain looks so pathetic.

There was a poll that had Germans preferring Obama over McSame 67-6 percent. Mexico and Canada view Bush as a greater threat to world peace than everyone but Osama bin Laden including Bush as part of the axis of evil. What is it or allies and most of the free world seem to know what we don't? Republicans are bad news at home and abroad. Great Obama's pulling in 200,000 but unfortunately Germans can vote and even if they could the GOP would find a way to purge the rolls.

Mclame is a smarmy old s**t of a man. He doesn't even look presidential. He should have retired long ago and lived off of Cindy's money and enjoyed life. What the hell does he think he is doing running for POTUS at his age!!! What a pr**k. God help us if we have to look at that creepy grin and listen to that whiny voice for four more years. I can't stand it. Did the repug party think they owed Mclame something so they let him have the nomination? No other explanation. Why do the repugs hate America???

The only way we, and by that I mean everyone who has loathed the last 8 years of our political lives, are going to get Obama elected is to turn out the black vote. It's going to be up to everyone - but especially white America - to do all we can to turn out the African American Vote en masse.

I'm a middle-aged white guy, who is so sick of BushCo that I could cry, and I plan to vote for Obama and I've contributed to his campaign...but DO NOT KID YOURSELVES. I know people, lots of people, who have never voted, who have never paid attention to elections and they're frothing at the mouth to go vote for McCain because he is white. I'm sorry that's the case, but it is. Pull your heads out of the bag. Hate is a great motivator...and there are lots of people that hate Obama. It's unjustified, it's wrong, and it is sheer lunacy. But if we underestimate it, we are doomed...and we will have to live with that crazy old man. And to be honest, I don't know if America can survive it.

If you're sitting on the fence, for whatever reason...you better get your lazy a** off the couch, donate to Obama's campaign, put a sign in your yard, start sending emails to your friends, etc. If you think it's going to be easy just because that tottering old fool has has a bad week, YOU are the one who is crazy. Did anyone see McCain call the 16-month timetable a good timetable on CNN today? It's on Youtube.

McCain literally stands for nothing other than a noun, verb, and the surge. He may try to run as Obama's VP by the convention if he keeps sliding towards his positions.

This, too, is the librul media's fault. Can't blame it on, say, his lousy campaign staff, right?

Never underestimate the ignorance of half the people of this country. What's the spread now, like 5% points btwn Obama and McSame? Roughly half the country voted for Bush, TWICE,and roughly half will vote for McSame. And if it's close there's always, Diebold, voter roll purging, lines in minority polling stations and the conservative activist election throwing Supreme Court. I don't care if Obama is in the lead now, the deck is still stacked against him.

the paper trail from the keating 5 shows that mccain sold his offices to keating. mccain should be a convicted felon, not a presidential contender. he shouldn't even be able to vote. our problem is that mccain, like bush, is part of self selected elite, that are above the law, thanks to 30 years of the gop packing the courts.

HighCrimes @ 49:

Is it just me, or are the clips only left channel audio and input recording levels are too high?

only left-ch audio. the last TDS vid also had that problem.

Thanks to the electoral college system, the Corporate Media and the seemingly endless gullibility of a slight majority of the American public, this is a tight race.

There is also a major problem with voter caging and other manipulations of our voting system that will make this even closer. Many states have, or will soon, implement voter ID regulations which will prevent many from being able to vote. How many renters do you know that get a new driver license every time they move to a new apartment, hmm? If your information on your ID isn't current, you can't vote. That's the way it is here in Indiana now, a potential swing state. Just think how that is going to eviscerate the college and low wage worker vote.

Hey - no worries - McCain is now shifting into high gear, har har.

McCain Endorses Obama's Timetable

"I think it's a pretty good timetable," Mr. McCain said Friday
in an interview on CNN's "The Situation Room," before adding
that it should be based "on the conditions on the ground."

By the way, this is another video clip missing its right channel audio...

Course, if you look carefully at the McCain campaign clip, its from 8 years ago, when he was...well...8 years less old.

dont worry folks, the media will come around and start REALLY bashing obama and build up McCain...why? because the media wants it to be as much of a horse race as humanly possible so people will take more interest and, of course, click on (your news network here) to see whats happened next.

jon stewart makes fun of politics and politicians...but theres a reason why he saves his genuine attacks for the media.

You're right that the Corporate Media will bash Obama relentlessly, but not for the reason you think. It's not about maintaining the horse race for ratings, its about big corporate interests wanting to maintain control. Another Republican Presidency guarantees big media's control of the FCC, the agency responsible for regulating them. This will mean further media conglomeration and dwindling public access to our own publicly owned broadcast spectrum. It may also mean corporate control over the internet giving them the ability to limit or shut down access to web sites and information that is not in the interest of corporations or the ruling economic elite.

The Corporate Media is not an objective observer of politics, but a political actor with vested commercial interests.

Especially Fox News. Don't worry citizens, The Ministry of Truth is on it. Bring out Brit Hume. He's going to set us straight and give us the facts (as Rupert wants us to see them). Uh, Hellooooo.

by whose opinion

Obama had a spectacular week. He was embraced on the world stage like a rock superstar. McCain remained in the US plodding away on the campaign stump in relative anonymity. However, McCain is still tied with Obama in the polls. If Obama could not open up a double digit lead after all the magnificent press coverage he has received recently...he never will.

That's what the problem is with these right wingers. Every time they turn on their TV sets, they see Obama and all those people fawning all over him and happy to see someone with some kind of intellegence, from the USA.

It's been more then seven years of not just us looking at and putting up with the likes of Bush and these republicans. They seem to be so relieved to see the choice we are making and it really feels good to see their may be some kind of hope for this country.

Grampa McCain might very well be the most pathetic creature I've ever laid eyes on. I would feel sorry for him if I was not also aware of his serious streak of pure evil.

You know those 200 000 in Berlin is nothing so amazing. I mean when Bush visited Europe or any other country except USA he would attract a crowd of 300 000, although he would do everything to avoid the public , because he is such a humble and devout man, unlike Obama who has to plan a speech and a stage to attract that much crowd.
People for Bush would also bring many American flags, but with added things like the backwards sign for Hindu or Buddhist luck , some call it a swastika, to show how much me wish so many good things to happen to USA. Many would then trample on the flag like we do on our carpets in front of the house to show that USA is an integral part of our lives that we use it as often as a common thing like a feet-cleaning carpet.

People loved Dubbya so much they would make lifelike dolls of him, which they would then sometimes join in a brother-pogo. Alas because we are so poor and undeveloped in the other parts of the world , those dolls rarely made it through the pogo (unlike high quality standards goods in USA like Mattel with its strong lead structure).

Some, remembering the love of America for gas, would then pour Gas on said flags or dolls, to show our support for American capitalism and the value of Exxon's shares, and our eternal struggle to fund the American oil-industry.
Others would harbor signs which show our trust in such a strong an bold world-warrior, and would read "George W. Bush + Cheney WAR CRIMINALS, MURDERERS, TORTURES, CHILD RAPER ENABLERS, RACIST IMPERIALIST PIGS" , alas unlike 'mericans most Europeans are very bad in foreign languages and what they mean here is to say " George W. please chain the war criminals etc." Yes put those evil men in chains so they would be locked up.

We are alas retarded weaklings with a very tiny brain and are bound to the only propaganda fed by our state television, unlike 'mericans who regularly watch different news networks in 3 different languages to check the info they get and make sure they are not lied too.

No really, that Obama speech in Berlin was in no way impressive. I mean everybody remembers what crowd Dubby drew, so you knew some would bring their USA love over to Obama too. They just didn't seem to love him as much, since the only thing I saw in the crows were American flags (without the love swastika and without the love-hugging of flag-trampling). Pffft pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Notice how McCain had to look at the piece of paper in his hand to see what the price of a gallon of milk is.

Brilliant, Nico!

According to Poblano Obama is going to stomp McCain. And it's still July. McCain is not really gaining ground.

A majority of Americans are greatly dissatisfied with their country's direction, unlike 2000 and 2004. 2006 proved that given enough impetus even the diddling of election saboteurs could be overcome. Also, with so many Americans pissed off, I predict that if the 2008 election is stolen, things will burn. People will go into the streets and fuck shit up. We are not confused and apathetic as we were in 2000, nor frightened and psuedo-patriotic as we were in 2004. We are angry and we want our country back. People who get in our way are going to encounter difficulty, to put it mildly.

Get them excited knowing that their first time ever vote will be for a candidate whom they would attend a huge rally to see, because they actually want him to be President.
Their vote is counted the same way as everyone else's.

Steve Doocy: "The venue then changed to Berlin Victory Column, a monument linked to Adolf Hitler."

Faux News is beyond pathetic. How long til they start photoshopping Obama photos with Hitler-mustaches?

The Siegessäule - or Victory Column - is located about a kilometer down the Strasse des 17. Juni from the Brandenburg Gate.
It was erected in memory of Prussia's victories over Denmark (1864), Austria (1866) and France (1870/71). The column originally stood in front of the Reichstag, Germany's parliament building, but was moved by Adolf Hitler to its current location in 1939 to make way for his planned transformation of Berlin into the Nazi capital "Germania." That´s the only link to Hitler so far. The location is nowadays linked to the "Love Parade" and the so-called "fan miles" held for soccer fans in the Tiergarten for the 2006 World Cup and the 2008 European Championship that persistently drew crowds of over 1 million soccer enthusiasts

Doocy (or whatever his name) also falsely stated that JFK delivered his "ich bin ein Berliner" speech in front of the Brandenburg Gate. The truth is: JFK never spoke in front of the Brandenburg Gate. He appeared in front of Rathaus Schöneberg (Schöneberg townhall), the residence of the Berlin government at the time.
Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton both spoke in front of the Brandenburg Gate when they were in the White House. For reasons known only to that Doocy guy he didn´t mention Bill Clinton at all.

You´re right: Faux News is beyond pathetic.

It was very impressive to see this huge crowd in a foreign country (Germany) waiting to see and hear Obama speaking.
Few years ago probably you would not find 10 people in Germany who did hear of Obama.
It is even more impressive that Obama is not even a head of a state yet , only a candidate.
If McCain is angry about that , let's see if he can get 10,000 people to sit down waiting to hear him talking anywhere in this world and that includes USA.

Jon Stewart and the writers nailed that segment! It is hilarious!

Troy McClure @ 19:

We have a lot of work to do.

i don't buy that the people you describe exist, either in combination or quantities enough to make a difference. a person who hasn't ever voted in an election either is too young to have ever voted before or has never been sufficiently motivated.
polls indicate across the board that obama has a solid lock on the youth vote..
so we aren't talking about those.
so what you're trying to tell me here is that there exists in the u.s., a block of voters, in election altering quantities, who have never harbored enough rage before on any other subject sufficient to goad them to vote before the "oh noes, obama is a darkie!" spur? no. people like this find other things to hate along the way. what about them gays? jews? immygrants? oh hell the irish! what about *clowns*?? why there's no end to the kinds of everyday normal human beings that would have driven folk like this crazy enough before now to have voted alrady.
why, i believe they already have....chimpy the clown got elected didn't he?
sorry kid, you're being duped. there's no secret motherload of mccain voters.
your "non voting" pals have already voted, the
