As someone who has an autistic brother, I feel qualified to say Michael Savage deserves a boot firmly planted inside his ass straight through to his mouth. If he thinks it's a fraud, I challenge him to have lived my life up to this point.
He's off the air in Central Virginia. Local station said that they will run Dave Ramsey as "the economy" dictates that some good advice on finances would be more proactive than Michael Savage shitting all over his listeners.
More wasted time in Congress. Guess they got tired of debating steroids in pro sports.

"Media Matters keeps coming up and I'd like to share my thoughts on them. First of all, the autism community is perfectly capable of defending itself against bullies. We don't need anyone telling us how to do that. They are fueling the fire, and purposefully trying to get everyone in a frenzy, including the media, for their own selfish reasons. They had two people call me the day I was scheduled to go on Savage's show, to try to tell me what to say. They wanted me to talk about his attacks on gays, muslims, women, etc. That pissed me off and I told them that I had no intention of getting on that show to fight with Savage about everything nasty he's ever said, I was going to use the time I had to talk about what is getting lost in all of this free publicity for Savage - OUR KIDS! They called me again last night to tell me that they will be sending out a response to the TRN Statement. I flat out told them that I don't care what they do, that this community is not naive enough to think for a second that they really give a sh*t about our kids, and I resent the fact that they are using OUR CHILDREN for their own agenda.

In response to the gentleman at post #34, there are a lot of things to be upset about in this world. I listen to NPR, yes, but I don't shop at Whole Foods. I would not want the government watching my regular activities unless and ONLY unless they had a warrant for such behavior. I am not irritated at Obama for some of his remarks; I understand that he is a politician and is doing his best to reach out to those not of his party alone.
I have been formally diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome for over 7 years now. And I find myself without words to describe my fury at Mr. Savage's remarks about people with autism. Eight and a half million are glued to this program every day. Most of the companies contacted have stated they are not sponsors, some have stated they have already previously specified their ads not run on his show, and are taking steps to make sure he is excluded from their ad buys. Several companies were surprised their ads were running on his show.
Home Depot, Aflac, Hoover, Sears, Geico Budweiser have stated that they do not wish to have their ads on his show, so people contacting them is doing some good. Some of his radio stations are dropping him. Thanks to all who are writing/emailing to help with this.
Bear in mind that outside his fanbase, their are few conservatives going to bat for him. This isn't really a lib vs. conservative issue, it's a bully attacking kids issue.
Because of autism I sometimes felt more kinship with hardcore conservatives with kids on the spectrum then with fellow lib dems who don't live with autism.

Many people out there saying things I don't like, when someone attacks my kid I'm allowed to defend her. I'm not going to the sponsors and calling him names, I'm just telling them what he said. It's called "Freedom of Speech". This is the first time I've participated in this type of campaign. If a doctor of any stripe is on the radio proclaiming that he's an expert on health, but is giving out very unhealthy advice, for which he refuses to apologize, then I feel quite justified in pointing this out to his sponsors. Angrily blaming the patient for getting sick is usually not helpful. Blaming a kid with autism for having autism is beyond stupid. Most parents with kids with autism are used to finding the most effective means of discipline. This is the natural consequences for his actions.
Given that Weiner is still likely a multimillionaire from his show, even if he were never to earn another penny again, I'm really don't think he'll starve to death.
Since he's such a genius, he could surely find some way to keep himself busy. And if he's hurting for cash, he could always adopt kids with autism and rake in the big bucks.

I'm sorry your wife got hurt, I hope she's doing OK. It's often not an easy population to work with. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, she may have done everything 100%, and the parents of this kid may be 100% wrong. I would assume, given her job, that she knows more about this than Weiner. Does she think that 99% of the kids who have the autism diagnosis just need to be yelled at and called putzes? And none of the kids she sees who's parents have rejected the autism diagnosis are kids who she thinks actually have autism?

I think savage was off base. thing is when I was a kid, 45 now, these kids were in the rug room at school and called retarded.
I was listening to savage that day, and I caught the whole of what he was saying, not just whatever has come from it. his bigger point was, you have a kid with whatever issue, just a hyper little spaz ( I have 3 boys, 5,7,13 I know spazzy) or as they say "on the spectrum", and he gets labled as autistic and now the county is over the barrel to provide services, or be sued by the parents.
guess who pays for these services? guess who loses money from their budget?
true story : a kid who is completely non-functional, unable to respond to any stimulus, no services will help this poor kid. however his parents demand the school district, my kids district as it happens, pony up $7000 for a custom laptop for this kid. under the threat of suing the device is provided. within a week the laptop went out a 2nd story window. so thats $10 each of the 700 kids at my kids school, or $250 per class room that they never see because this autistic kid was entitled to a laptop he could only use as a projectile.
that was his bigger point, and why I think he's being attacked for this, someone is afraid the money will dry up, probably lawyers.
I have a hard time believing any one who is up in arms about this gives 2 shits about any of these kids. if you care, go volunteer some time, they ALWAYS need teacher aides for these kids, starting pay in our area is the princely sum of $12-$15 an hour

You seem very focused on the money. If there's a way to reach the kids, you'll save a lot of money.
The kids typically cost millions over their lifetimes. The more functional the kids become, the sooner it happens, the less services they need, and the less of your tax money they consume.
Guess who pays for these services? It's actually mostly me, and parents like me mainly. We are not doing as well as Weiner is. I think it's bizarre you're concerned more about Weiner's paycheck than parents who are struggling to not be financially crippled by their kid's care.

Parents used to be much more likely to do what Weiner's dad did, institutionalize the kid. Full time institutions cost a lot more than keeping the kid at home, but providing services through school. Some families where the kid is a safety threat or if the behaviours are just too much still need to institutionalize.
You've got three boys. If they each have three boys, there's a very slim chance to see a little what we're dealing with, and when you're looking at it as one of yours maybe your mind will change about what's OK to say about these kids.

There's a small chance that for the price of a CD or two fast food meals for each kid in the school, he might be able to communicate. You don't think that's a good trade? If the kid could've used the keyboard, it wouldn't have made your wife's job a little easier? If you knew ahead of time the keyboard was just going to sail out a window, you should have been outside to catch it.
I am exactly up in arms because I do care what happens to these kids. My kid doesn't meet the DSM IV for spazziness or retardedness, she does meet it for autism. She's between the two extremes you describe. We do volunteer in her class room.
Your wife's job is hard. For some of the parents it's harder and they don't get the night off. They don't deserve to be called frauds and bad parents. The kids need help, and I know way more who need it and get too little, then there are kids that get too much. Most people see this. A "health expert" should be able to figure it out. MJM, I'm guessing you're not the shy type. Someone said that your wife was helping perpetrate fraud cause her student's weren't really autistic, or someone said you were a bad parent cause you're not yelling at your kids the right way, you'd really just turn the other cheek? Someone attacks your family and you congratulate them on their use of free speech, but have nothing else to say?
