Krugman: Republicans have become the party of stupid

Watching Kudlow scramble and sound like a lunatic on his show Thursday because the economy is tanking is a sad but true example of Republicans playing stupid.

Let's face it - most Americans now are STUPID F*CKING IDIOTS. How else can you explain Americans voting for George W. Bush twice.
Without naming names, Krugman said
SUCK.ON.THIS!
I think Krugman gets it wrong, somewhat. The Republicans are the party of lazy and stupid. They prefer offshore drilling to maintaining their tire pressure because keeping ones tires inflated requires you to do something.
This:
made me think of this from John Stewart Mill:
It's the not the conservative politicians (although it seems to me that since the Great Fundamentalist Awakening and the Gingrich days the number of mind numbingly stupid conservative politicians has greatly increased, predominantly on the state and local level) but the conservative voters who fit this description.
Krugman sums it up like this:
The not-so-stupid politicians have been using this strategy to get the oh-so-stupid voters to vote for them. Krugman is spot on here.
have BECOME the party of stupid?????? WTF? The Republicans were the party of stupid back in the Nixon era, and carried this mantle through with Regan/Ollie North, Bush/Quayle, and Dubya/Dick "shotgun" Cheney...helluva job!!!
Brilliant. I may need to get one of these and wear it on election day.
Become the party of stupid? They've been that one since at least the Reaganid Imamate.
Big Billy Bob Bobson @ 5:
Your Right Billy, P.o.t.a.t.o.e.
We're lucky these idiots didn't decide attacking Russia was "doable" based on the success of Iraq.
Bush's war has set the state for a world-wide holy war.
Those of us who don't believe in any gods are just as fucked as the rest of the delusional masses.
Too bad there isn't a nearby planet for atheist to go to. When i hear all this talk of religious bombings by fundamentalist groups and separatist etc. I feel like I'm in a world of insane people.
George Bush is the best thing that ever happened to the Democratic Party.
I'm outta here, gonna go read some fiction (much better than this real life crap)

You are. I figured that out about the time I learned of the Albigensian Crusade...
then watched John Hagee on TV and realized...
we've gone nowhere.
I just hope that the Hadron Smasher finishes us before the crazies do.
But who are we to believe? John Edwards?
kerplunk @ 15:
Naw....trust the scaly guys with no chin. They promise deliverance from human ills if we follow someone...named sounded like Koothooloo?
General_Rennenkampf @ 14:
I agree, the LHC is our last hope of a reasonable death and it would take the whole miserable planet with it. Black hole here we come.
Nite guys.
♥♦♣♠BB♥♦♣♠ @ 17:
Night.
Not only stupid, but a dangerous combination of stupid, intollerant, and hate filled. Hating the government, gays, minorities, foreigners, nonchristians, unions, liberals, commies...pretty much anyone who is not one of them.
Some of them aren't playing, John, and ain't it just ducky that the incompetence defense for fascistic government works this well? By the time everyone graduates up from calling you misinformed to wrong, let alone to liar, the damage is done and again.
"Republicans playing stupid."?
Oh no they are stupid look no further than who they nominated for President in 2000.
Reminds me of...
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." -- Margaret Mead
Went to the McCain site, where they had a link to this very site. Guess what!
This link actually works! So they are not totally stupid. Give them some credit for mastering link technology. Though I doubt I can get any points for this comment. HeHe.

Might wanna check the tags for this post:
What Krugman said is the kindest thing that can be said about these mentally ill, lying, sick and dripping with racism, exclusive, mainly white and proud of it, war loving(when minorities and poor whites fight), unAmerican fucks. I have a friend who is black like me and he tells me the only reason he is a registered Republican is because it helps him in business dealings. I honestly believe virtually every "black Republican" is simply an opportunist exploiting the fact that he or she is the only negro in the neighborhood.
Any Repug is about money, no matter if they are black or white. F#ck 'em!
As Robert Heinlein said," Never underestimate the power of human stupidity." The Rethugs have certainly proved that
The scary part is: They think they're the smartest fuckers ever born.

Amen!
R. I. P. America 1776 - 2001 "The Journey Forward Died"
Looking around the site I found a few shirts that are out right hateful (pay your taxes so illegal immigrants don't have to) so maybe not all that great of an idea to support them. They really came out of nowhere since most of the witty one-liners are fairly innocuous.
That is from the Kudlow article. This man has clearly lost it. Lets please deregulate the oil industry even further so that they can continue to rake in massive profits while the lower and middle classes suffer. He also says in the article that discussion about ending the moratorium on offshore drilling has brought the price of oil down. Bush isn't the only idiot who almost failed ECO 101.
Drill, drill, drill.
Jesus are people so fucking god damned stupid they don't realize that any fucking oil drilled is on the world market, controlled by big oil, and will do abso-fucking-lutely nothing about making us independent?
Fucking morons.
Numerous elections since 2000 were fucking stolen.
02, 04, 06, and believe me 08 will see stolen elections as well.
VM @ 3:
And starting a war with some far off country to lower the price of oil requires you to do nothing, as long as 1. you're not in the army, so you don't actually have to fight it, and 2. it's paid for with borrowed money, so you don't actually have to pay for it.
It's the perfect plan for the party that caters to the lazy and stupid in all of us. So much for conservatism as being the philosophy of personal responsibility.
They're evil and stupid. A very bad combination.
Conservatards are proud of it. Here in Texas you can see them driving around with the "W the President" alongside their "Homer Simpson" bumper sticker. Maybe a "socialist" healthcare system might do their mental condition some good.
angryspittle @ 28:
In fact, the ruling elite of the Republican party ARE the smartest fuckers ever born. Certainly smarter than the leaders of the Democratic party. How else do you explain the fact that they managed to convince two generations of apolitical morons to not only get involved in politics, but to get out and vote in droves for the party of Plutocrats?
NOBODY IN HISTORY has pulled off mass brainwashing like that! Can you imagine a remake of The Ten Commandments where Pharaoh Brenner is getting the Jewish slaves to work doubletime building the pyramids with bricks made without straw, then Heston comes out of the desert to free them, and Rove (played by Edward G. Robinson, of course) convinces the slaves not to vote for Moses because he's JEWISH? Then they turn out in droves to vote for the Pharaoh because he managed to squeeze a ballot initiative in there on banning the burning of the egyptian flag. Well THAT'S the kind of sh!t these MODERN day pharaohs have managed to pull off.
Pericles,
That is bullshit.
They can't win fairly so they have to cheat.
They are only good at cheating.
Certainly not governing.
jane @ 1:
jane @ 1:
but we didn't.
Pericles @ 37:
ahcmon..the only reason they could do it is because they control the flow of information. just like Goering.
I'm not sure who's getting called stupid here. Maybe the fools who voted for the repugs. Cheney and Bush and their corporate fascist buddies are evil for sure - stupid, maybe not so much.
Repugs have been in charge of our gov't for most of the past 1/2 century; they've been reaping the benefits/corporate profits of never-ending wars without ever having to risk their own asses; and, they've managed to ram most of the tax breaks, surveillance/security crap, and other nasty legislation through Congress to make what they've done and are doing pretty much legal.
All of this and it looks pretty much like they'll get off scot-free! They'll take their money and go live on an island somewhere and watch America go bankrupt on satellite TV.
So, who's stupid?
motorfingaz @ 29:
The news of our demise is greatly exagerated. Our democracy survived an armed insurrection by these same racist shitbirds back in 1861. It survived Warren Harding, Herbert Hoover, Joe McCarthy, and Vietnam. We will survive this, too. It's just that the longer the shitbirds stay in power, the longer it will take to clean up.
StirFry @ 36:
Scrape 'em off. That's what I do. Just a quick flick of a good sharp pocket knife is all it takes. And if you can't open your pocket knife with one hand, you're living in the wrong state.

. . . all the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most easily (and) adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum. The presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men.
As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
-- H.L. Mencken July 26, 1920, The Baltimore Sun
General_Rennenkampf @ 16:
Ia ia Cthulhu fhtagn!
Kredlow echos the "drill here, drill now" incantation as if just saying it has magic powers. Why look at how the price of gas has fallen! I know I'm not alone in thinking the price of gas is manipulated by those who can ( see California power outage/ Enron ) and just ask the question,"who benefits most with lowering gas prices come election time?"
Why, could it be, just possibly, maybe, the Repugs?
I tink so!
If the GOP has become the party of stupid, then they'll win big in the next elections. Because a majority of Americans qualify. I just read a poll that shows most Americans prefer new drilling to conservation. They'd rather screw the environment and their kids' future than drive less or force car manufacturers to make more efficient cars. So, if GOP has cornered stupid, then they're good to go.
I notice that the stars on the T-shirt are oriented upside-down. I've always thought that it was funny that the Republican Party would have downward pointing stars on their official logo, while the stars on the flag are pointing up. (The downward pointing stars being used by those who worship Satan...)
Nineteen Kilo @ 44:
.24 seconds....left hand.
But no need for scraping, sometimes barnacles fall off. The McCain supporter in my neighborhood here in Austin got layed off, and now has to move back Houston to "maintain his salary."
Finally? Finally, a name personality is allowed to say this in a major American paper. Really, since Reagan, America has been running on a mentality of, "OGG likem oil. OGG likem go bam-bam on head. OGG likem go bam-bam on head _for_ oil. Why stupid liberal no likem go bam-bam on head for oil? Stupid liberal."
It is way damn past time Americans stopped acting like this and quit the hell voting for the guy who projects the lying image that he would be a good drinking buddy. We _want_ somebody smarter on average than we are leading this country. "It's hard work!" as somebody once said.
I bought a shirt! I can't wait to start wearing it. I don't shop at Wally World (Wal-Hell) but I think I will go in and pretend to shop just to piss off the natives here in Florida.
stupid is as those who vote for these guys
reagan's genius still at work
trickle down theory trickled up
the opening display of wealth last night in china says it all about our future
awesome simply awesome
the future of america is second rate country in debt to everyone
ie a bankrupt nation begging for money
Someone had to say it. Thank you Mr. Krugman.
And Obama too, by the way.
Let's get the word out people.
*
Dare I say? It's been the elephant in the room.
Most people know it and no one has been willing to dance with it.
*
Horse Feathers @ 4:
this was so apparent, for instance, in the nbc coverage of last night's olympic opening ceremonies -- bob costas seemed offended that the chinese performers were so competent, he kept slyly suggesting there was something wrong with it. it gave me a sick feeling in my stomach listening to his bobble-headedness.
I'm glad someone with a decent reputation wrote this, but honestly, isn't it a little obvious?
I mean, conservatism is all about a few wealthy, powerful individuals exercising power over everyone else. Only stupid people would want to hurt themselves by voting for conservatives. And only stupid people would believe the conservatives' lies and self-serving rationalizations in the face of overwhelming facts.
buddy @ 2:
John Amato says "Thank you Paul." But I'm confused. Wasn't Paul Krugman in agreement with those "hawkish elites" a few years back regarding the war?
If so, I think our appreciation for his present stance needs to be limited and wary, to say the least.
The party’s de facto slogan has become: “Real men don’t think things through.”
Absolutely priceless! ROTFLMAO!
Whats the difference between bukkake and watching Faux,
one you can wash off, but the Faux stink is permanent.
StirFry @ 50:
put a sign up in his front yard before he leaves
'voted Republican, lost job, lost house, lost future,
didnt listen to them thar libruls in 04'
'soon to be proud "trailer trash for McCain 08" '
VM @ 3:
I'd say it's more greed than laziness. The reason they so heavily oppose conservation is they can't make a dime off of it. Drilling = Profit.
While I enjoy hurling insults at conservatives - particularly neo-conservatives who aren't conservative about anything, what I really think is that conservatives are basically very frightened people.
That fear comes from ignorance. Now I'm not stupid enough to walk down dark alleys at night I'm also not scared of people in general. All those "bad" parts of town really aren't bad. They're people who are different socially than I am. But I can talk to them, get along and move along without having any problems.
Conservatives are afraid of anything that isn't comfortable to them which is why they are not known for their creativity.
Again, that fear comes from ignorance. Are they ignorant because they're stupid? I don't think so. I know a lot of conservatives who are intelligent enough.
But where they are profoundly stupid is in their policies. A lot of their policies are trying to stop or turn back time so they can stay in the comfortable "nothing changes" zone.
And because they're afraid of everyone who isn't like them, they're perfectly comfortable wiping out those people because it will make the world more comfortable to them and thus, "better".
I've been saying for a long time that education is the key but the more I think about it the more I wonder how you educate people who won't take the time to be educated. It's not like you need money to teach people about other people. All you have to do is leave your home and go someplace different. And by someplace different I don't mean a nice, comfortable motel room on the "good side" of town.
Instead of rolling up your windows, locking your doors and driving through the "bad" side of town as quickly as possible, try parking your car and do some shopping in the local stores. And try to look like a regular person instead of an uptight, middle aged white dickhead.
I find the people who are most stupid are the ones that generalize far too often. Stupid people who think all muslims are bad, all republicans are stupid, etc etc.
As far as I know, energy deregulation has not been resulting in lower prices here in Canada.
Instead, prices have gone way up as the major players have been free to charge more because consumers have few competitors to which they can turn for a better deal.
"the conservative party is the stupid party. it's not that conservatives are stupid, it's just that stupid people tend to be conservative."
i forgot who said this originally, but william f. buckley liked to use this quote.
Eric Hussein in Ottawa @ 65:
Deregulation never works, the MO of a corporation is to maximize profits... if all regulations are lifted, then they will do as much as they can to increase profits. It would be like allowing the Foxen to watch the hen house and expect the production of eggs to increase....
♥♦♣♠BB♥♦♣♠ @ 10:
You feel that way because you ARE! When a Christer tells me I am going to hell, I say no I am not because there's no such thing. Atheists feel alienated because we're such a small minority here, while in European countries people think atheism is just as good a belief system as any other and a lot less likely to mislead the gullible to their undoing.
UrbanTaoist incorrectly noted that the stars on this t-shirt are pointing downwards. Untrue. These are pointing upwards, the same as they appear on the flag. However, the correct orientation is, as he suggested, pointing downwards and the rest of what he said about the use of these symbols is correct.
Thom Hartmann has been quite curious about this orientation of the star.
One possible thought...if the elephant were dead, laying legs up in the air (as depicted in cartoons), than the stars would be properly orientated.
angryspittle @ 28:
Arrogant and dumb is a deadly combination.
Obama nailed it when he said, "It's Like These Guys Take Pride in Being Ignorant".
Krugman: Republicans have become the party of stupid
Well...
DUUHHH!!!!

As you note, the Media is working hard ("It's Hard Work!") to make us stupid. Stupid answers fit sound bites, smart answers take too damn long in Media Land.

HEY! I just figured out why the republicans chose an elephant as a mascot. It's really simple, the elephants and the republicans share a comon trait. They have, beond a reasonable doubt, the worlds biggest assholes!!!!!!!!!
I created a video that pushes back against the "Drill Now" slogan by using the Republican argument against them. I believe that if we can get something like this to go viral with diggs, blogs, emails etc. it may help take some of the wind out of their sails. I obviously don't have their budget to broadcast this video around but I do have the skills to make a professional looking presentation and we have the netroots to help with the distribution if it is willing.
Americanblog has already posted it. Will C&L and it's readers be interested in helping? It seems to me that working to spread something like this around might be better than just scratching our heads and wondering why people get fooled so easily. Video presentations are a very powerful way to communicate.

I hope people find it helpful.

Tyler Durden @ 67:
Complete deregulation eliminates corporations. Of course, complete deregulation can't happen as long as there are "governments".
The Republican party time and time again bashes Obama for whatever reason they can find. It's like watching a child (Republicans) fight with an adult (Democrats). I don't exaggerate on this; it would be different if the Democratic party was striking first, but they are not. Then, I would reverse the positions of the parties mentioned above. The Democrats merely defend themselves against childish behavior.
One can really find the stupidity in the Republican party when they bash an idea that has significant plausibility. Then, they want to open more land for drilling when there are millions upon millions of acres that have not been touched. Also, they want nuclear power; that's fine, but how about the people safety. Please consider our lives before making rash decisions, please. Bush has already killed over 4,100 people. Furthermore, they want to implement an economic plan that is justly familiar to Bush's. This just sounds like they want to get out of work. Not much legislation would have to occur if it already vastly exist. Oh yea, stupid me, need not I forget the fact that it has NOT worked thus far.
Sometimes I find myself sitting in wonder... are people, can people, really be this stupid. I read something here that confirmed the answer I often times come up with. This is not an exact quote, I don't think, it would be hard to get it wrong though. It said in regards to the stupidity of people, we voted for Bush twice. I will get on my knees in prayer as people through rocks at me if they will listen to my plea. DON'T VOTE FOR McCAIN! Damn I'm tired of this shat.
Ed @ 78:
Yeah, if you live in the bizarro world.
Yeah. Good idea. Wear a shirt like this. Great way to make Republican voters see the error of their ways, call them stupid. Then they'll know. Right? Sheesh. I don't know sometimes who is denser: the Republicans for their idiotic policies or people on our side with zero people-skills like whoever would wear a shirt like this... and there are many.
angryspittle @ 28:
ROFLMAO until I started crying because it is sooooo true!
The repubs work on an inversely proportional model without a doubt. The dumber they are, the smarter they think they are. The more delusionally detached from reality they are, the more they think they, and they alone, have all the answers!
Nada @ 35:
And they have lots of money, to make sure the fascist agenda gets out!
