On the August 19 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh said that "it is striking how unqualified [Sen. Barack] Obama is and, and how this whole thing came about with, within the Democrat [sic] Party. I think it really goes back to the fact that nobody had the guts to stand up and say no to a black guy." Limbaugh went on to say: "I think this is a classic illustration here where affirmative action has reared its ugly head against them. It's the reverse of it. They've, they've ended up nominating and placing at the top of their ticket somebody who's not qualified, who has not earned it." Limbaugh added: "It's perfect affirmative action. And because of all this guilt and the historic nature of things, nobody had the guts to say, well, wait a minute, do we really want to do this?" Read on...

considering the 20 years lost dealing with global warming and our loss of democracy, ignoring the talk radio monopoly may be the biggest political blunder of all time. no single medium is more responsible for this bush disaster. and if rove was the architect, limbaugh and sons did the heavy lifting.
limbaugh and sons have had a huge and underestimated influence on the MSM by laundering GOP/rove talking points and framing through its coordinated uncontested repetition to 50-70MIL Americans. the talk radio monopoly has given false certainty and fake poulism to bush/conservative values and have shifted the media/political center way right of USA's true populist liberal values that appear in study after study.
because media critics and political analysts and progressives don't have access to a searchable talk radio transcript database, and because guys like limbaugh and hannity give them headaches the talk radio effect has been largely ignored. unless you listen once in a while (and there's a station near every American) it is impossible to watch the migration of talking points and myths from talk radio into the MSM and onto the floor of congress.
suggestions:
1) progressives must recognize the groundwork for most hate and swiftboating is done on talk radio where no one checks the truth and they can say it all day long. as kerry found out, by the time it shows up in the tv and print it's too late- it's been pounded into the earholes of 60MIL and that makes it true. there has been way too much time wasted evaluating progressive politicians and causes and US media while ignoring the talk radio effect.
2) maybe the Dem party/obama should invoke limbaugh as the main guy left to represent the principles and morals of the modern republican party. give him the recognition he deserves for spearheading the effort to get the GOP where is today and where the USA is today. as long as the GOP is ambivalent on mccain the case can be made limbaugh is the flagbearer. and call blue dog dems what they really are these days- limbaugh democrats. he got 1/2$BIL for something.
3) as far as legally possible the Dem party needs to immediately fund a site with searchable database of transcripts of major national and local talkers. it will give dems a heads up on what the GOP is doing next since talk radio is often used to do the prep work for their media and legislative strategies. on the local level one loudmouth with a microphone reading chamber of commerce and GOP talking points can undo the work of thousands of local citizens volunteering a few buck and hours here and there.
4) recognize the talk radio stations as the power centers of the GOP. if limbaugh has 500 stations that's an avg of 10 per state, so there's a station near everyone to picket and boycott when they lie about obama. why protest at the state capital- the GOP doesn't give a crap if their politicians are more concerned about what limbaugh and sons say to tens of millions every day. in colorado the big limbaugh/GOP station is 850KOA in denver. while respecting KOA is an important local source for sports/traffic/weather it may be a great alternative site to wave signs during the Dem convention.

I was going to support someone else, but a bunch of big, scary, uppity you-know-whats showed up at my house -- well not really at my house, but they'd be here in a second if they'd knew where I live -- and made me support Obama. I wanted to say no, but I just didn't have the courage to say no to an African American, since African Americans basically run the country.

I was curious about Rush - don't know much about him except he's an asshole - so I checked wiki. Come from a prominent Missouri family (may be the genesis of his racial bigotry) with lots of lawyers and a couple of judges. Seems Rush, (or Rusty Sharpe - his "radio name") liked being a dj on the local radio, and when he dropped out of college - continued being a dj. He didn't get into talk radio until he was in LA in '87, when Reagan and his buds repealed the Fairness Doctrine - ergo the entire lack of fairness in everything Rusty has spewed since. Frankly, he's just a sick fuck like the people he supports - an arrogant, sociopathic blowhard.
One other interesting point, during the Viet Nam war, he was classified 4-F because of Pilonidol disease - proving what we've always known - Rush really is just an oozing cyst on the asshole of the right wing.....

There is actually some truth to that. Many of the neocon talking heads are getting their butts whipped in many, even most, of the local markets they are on. So much so that any reasonable business/broadcaster would pull the plug. Yet, just look at the likes of Savage and Beck. Its often not about ratings with these fascist companies and the goons they buy in Congress. Its about a political agenda. That said, no political agenda can continue forever without the life blood of cold hard cash. It is always good to organize and make our voices heard. If for no other reason than future advertisers will think twice about buying in. And just maybe, some program director somewhere will look elsewhere for programming of his/her station.

Limbaugh should be glad to receive a man like Senator Obama, who may just be the person we need to clean up some up the smut, left by George Bush and people like him, whom have been given a stamp of approval to do exactly what he dose.
But weather he would be happy to receive a person like Obama as president or not, I know deep down inside of his fat gut, that he has to respect him and those of us that do not tollerate people like himself.

It's not as if people went out and voted for Obama, I guess maybe his votes were counted as more than one (1). What really bothers me about Limbaugh's comments are that even if he is a racist, they have no truth to them. To call Obama incompetent, just because of affirmative action is purely and simply a lie, racially speaking or not. Obama is a United States Senator for God's sake. Show some respect, Mr. Limbaugh! Remember it was a junior senator from Massacusetts who won in a landslide in 1963. In case any of you are too young, his name was John F. Kennedy. What kind of experience did Ronald Reagan have before being elected Governor of California? To call Obama not qualified and then back it up with an outdated remnant of America's history of rascism toward any people who aren't white is not something I am proud of. And I don't think the American people are proud of it this legacy, either. Lincoln got assassinated because of bigotry and rascism.
