Consortium News: Don't look now, but neocons might (gasp!) get rich off of the Georgia/Russia meltdown.
Guest hosted by Blue Gal, who had a terrific time in Springfield, Illinois yesterday. Boy, that Biden fella sure can sprint.

Obiden!!
One house, One spouse - Obama/Biden 08
StirFry @ 2:
Great Slogan, I might buy some of these for my friends.
We have three corrupt Senators going to save our country.
Yeah, right.
One states our government is broken.
Will somebody please ask McDraft why it is broken and how in the hell do you fix a broken government?
Just for general information, HBO is running a special on Helen Thomas. Called, "Thank You Mr President".
It's really good folks, if you get HBO give it a shot, it's worth it. She's a remarkable woman.
Yeah, AZ has some nasty hate radio. But we also have "The Original Dennis Stout" and Mark Fleming on the Vets for Peace radio program "About Face" which airs locally on Air America and nationally on the Nova M network. They cover topics such counter recruiting, VA hospitals, stop-loss, etc. It is the only show of it's type that I am aware of. We're proud of Mark and Dennis. Dennis also plays bodrhan and sings in my band.
One house, one spouse! Oooh! Normally I don't care for sloganing. I am making an exception here.
Mick Piobr @ 6:
I really would like to see people start boycotting the Sponsors of Rush and Weiner (savage), start a writing campaign to let the sponsors know that hate shouldn't be tolerated on public airwaves.
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 8:
Hardest part would be someone would have to listen to their crap to log the sponsors and make the list.
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 9:
Yeah...that's like torture.
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 9:
There it is. I would probably have a stroke if I had to listen to more than five minutes of that horseshit.
In that vein, I will no longer buy any BOSE products as they sponsor Brash Dimbulb's show. It's too bad; I really like their products....
HEY !!! Someone already made the list complete with Email Address' of the Sponsors. It's Right HERE
Mick Piobr @ 11:
When I was in construction, there was always some asshole with a damn radio blaring Rush's insipid bullshit. I got fed up one day and the radio met with an unfortunate accident...pissed that redneck off pretty good, but it was much easier to work without that crap making me so pissed off I couldn't see straight.
liberalNmoderation @ 13:
piece of Re-Bar accidentally fall on it?
Sure is a Lonnnnnng Monsoon Season here.
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 14:
No...my hammer smashed into it repeatedly, lol!
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 15:
Good evening! How are things in your world today?
liberalNmoderation @ 16:
Therapy.
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 18:
Indeed.
pissed off patricia @ 17:
Very wet, lots of lightning. Glad I don't have a desktop PC, I'm always on batteries and WIFI
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 20:
Speaking of wet, were you in the middle of all that mess in Fla?
smart people here use bamboo umbrellas or other wood.
liberalNmoderation @ 19:
I'm still in construction. And when I here Limbaugh on the radio, I just go up the guy who's got the radio and say," You listen to this guy? He's a communist!" I love the looks on their faces. It piss's them off to no end. The radio gets turned off.
Joe Biden on the issues:
"Biden is the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and sharply criticized other Democrats who were less supportive or opposed. More recently he has called for "decentralizing" Iraq, a plan that he says would give of its major ethnic groups semi-autonomy, and called for more of a US military presence there. He voted for the PATRIOT Act in 2001, then argued against renewing it in 2005, before voting for legislation that generally renewed the PATRIOT Act's powers in 2006.
For decades Biden has been at the forefront of the war on drugs, supporting new prohibitions against methamphetamine, Ecstasy, steroids used by athletes, and other new drugs as they became popular. Biden wrote the legislation that created the position of a national "Drug Czar", and his Anti-Drug Proliferation Act provides 20-year prison sentences for club owners, concert promoters, and people who throw parties in their home, if "drug use" takes place in such settings.
He wholeheartedly supported the actions of federal agents in the Waco standoff, and visibly sneered at witnesses in Senate hearings who questioned agents' acts. He was a key proponent of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act in 1994, which banned some kinds of semiautomatic rifles, with a sunset provision that allowed these weapons to become legal again ten years later. The law also allocated substantial funds for construction of new prisons, established boot camps for delinquent minors, and brought the death penalty for crimes related to drug dealing, civil-rights related murders, murder of a Federal officer, and acts classified as terrorism.
Over his long career in politics, Biden's biggest financial supporter has been the giant credit card company MBNA, which was also one of George W. Bush's biggest donors in 2000 and 2004. He was a proponent of the 2005 charges to bankruptcy law which made filing bankruptcy much more difficult. His son, Hunter Biden, was hired as a management trainee at MBNA straight out of law school, and was quickly promoted to executive vice president. The younger Biden has since left MBNA to establish his own lawyer-and-lobbying firm, but still receives a $100,000 per year consulting fee from the bank, which has since been swallowed by Bank of America. In 2006, Hunter Biden was appointed by President Bush to a five-year term on the Amtrak Reform Board."

LOL! Nice! I wasn't that subtle in my youth...I was a hotheaded SOB...still am to some extent. but old age has mellowed me a bit.
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 21:
GAH! I was...damn storm wouldn't leave!
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 21:
Yep. When you hear about the flooding on the Treasure Coast of Florida, that's where I am. Luckily my house in a higher area so we had no floods in my immediate neighborhood, but other parts of the town were in bad shape. The main road through here is US-1 and last Wednesday morning it was almost impassable due to standing water. It was a hell of a miserable week. Yesterday was the first day since last Sunday that we saw more sun than rain. The state needed the rain but not so much in such a short period of time.
kali yuga @ 24:
While i really like Biden and will vote the OBiden ticket i think the "War on Drugs" is a tremendous waste of money. $45 billion per year and they never touch the real Drug guys, just imprison marijuana users for the most part. Most American Prisons are full of pot smokers, while the big guys get sent to Federal Farms to play golf and Tennis.
liberalNmoderation @ 26:
No kidding! What part of Fla are you in?
ky@24 Yeah, I'll hold my nose and vote for Obama/Biden. It won't matter anyway, the Party has already has already stolen the election.
pissed off patricia @ 29:
The Keys...we got some rain and the winds were like 20 30 mph and once in awhile it gust to 40 or so...no big deal...got two days off work though ;)
mudshark @ 23:
LMAO!
liberalNmoderation @ 31:
I Love the Florida Keys ... have you read all of Carl Hiaasen's Novels?
He really cracks me up. Kind of a tongue and cheek Elmore Leonard.
Well folks. I'm off to get some lunch in me belly and watch me so bad movies on the scifi channel...they always have good cheese on sundays....
Oh wait...I bet there's gonna be a football game on...saweeeet!
Do I just have a faulty memory or did the Soviet Union collapse from within due to military spending?
Is there any way we could spend more on our military? Considering we already spend more than all the rest of the world combined.
Are we gearing up to fight aliens now?
I can't understand how people aren't crazy mad how much of their money goes to military contractors and the interest we are paying on the national debt because of this overspending.
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 33:
Eh there ok...much nicer place to visit than to live...there are people trying to make it too expensive for the blue collar locals to live here...want the entire island chain to be nothin but a playground for the super-rich...which it pretty much already is, but at least the unwashed hordes can still live here for now.
Nope never heard of the guy...I'll check him out though. Heck...never heard of Elmore either...
liberalNmoderation @ 36:
fixed it...
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 33:
Elmore Leonard + (I'm not making this up)Dave Barry = Carl Hiaasen.
I really loved Striptease- the book, not the movie. I've read some others whose titles I can't quite recall....
POP. have you read Hiaasen? He writes about Florida crooks and politician all being tied together, very funny stuff. Writes about all the scams that come down ofter the storms pass though, got some really good characters.
Andy K Jong Il @ 38:
Your correct ... and they are good buddies who work for the same rag in south Florida. I love them both.
Andy K Jong Il @ 38:
Hmmm....interesting...I'll check them both out.
BB@28 War on Drugs is just another War on People who lack power and voice. Unless you're Rush Dimbulb - then you only get a slap on your soft, smooth pudgy little hand.
Cui bono? The privatised prisons, goofy rehab clinics, Big Pharm, Big Liquor and the timber industry.
Science has shown us that many animals will seek agents that will alter their level of consciousness. Starlings, waxwings and some corvids will gleefully snarf down fermented berries and get falling-down drunk.
There are numerous examples.
liberalNmoderation @ 37:
I used to love the Keys until the big cruise ships began docking in Key West and that about ruined the place. The stores owned by locals were sucked up and chain stores came in with fancy assed stuff that would appeal to the cruise folks. I have never been more inebriated than the fun times I have spent in the Keys.
I have read all of Hiaasen's books along with those of Laurence Shames. Shames writes some funny stuff but you need to begin with the first one and move forward. I believe the first one was, "Florida Straits" and next was "Scavenger Reef". More followed.
crazylikeafox @ 35:
No, no space aliens. But the Carlyle Group must be ecstatic now that the dumbf***s in the Whitehouse have restarted the Cold War with Russia.
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 39:
Plus all the weird stuff he writes about are true. I have gone to hear him speak several times and he often tells the story of when he wrote his first book his editor told him no one would buy all the weirdness. He had to go back and get newspaper clippings of the events from which the weirdness came to convince the editor it was based on true happenings.
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 40:
I'm aware of that- though I think Barry is either on a lengthy hiatus or retired now.
Ever read the other great Detroit crime writer, BB? Loren D. Estleman, that is. Probably best known for his Amos Walker series, but I prefer his other work. He wrote three books that are a historical Detroit arch (Whiskey River, Jitterbug, and Edsel) that are excellent. Then there was the surprisingly good Sherlock Holmes vs. Dracula.
pissed off patricia @ 43:
I really like Hiaasens character Snipe. Ex governor who disappeared and became a swamp-living road-kill eating do-gooder. Great fun, I'll try Shames, is he in the same vein?
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 39:
Tim Dorsey writes some absolutely hysterical FLA stories.
Steve Martin’s ‘Tribute’ to McCain: King Glut
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP7AJiQM2RI
Mick Piobr @ 42:
You forgot to mention Cindy McCain, who got rehab time after stealing from her charity to pay for her prescription painkiller habit.
Andy K Jong Il @ 50:
Wasn't she stealing the drugs themselves not the money?
☻Bangkok Bob ☻ @ 47:
I'm not sure I put him in the exact same vein, but he is funny as hell and writes about some New York gang like wanna-bes who go to the Keys to become mafia. The funny thing is they are as inept as hell.
Here's the Amazon page and you can scroll down to see what other readers have said. They give Florida Straits four and a half stars. Should be five, in my opinion
Actually, Phoenix, Arizona, is also the home of NovaM Radio: http://www.novamradio.com/live with Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy, and Jeff Farias.
Andy K Jong Il @ 50:
But...but...she's married to a War Hero!
crazylikeafox @ 51:
You are correct.
pissed off patricia @ 52:
Thanks POP, I'm looking for some good fun reads right now so these look right up my alley.
With that I have to get off here and try for some rest.
Later all.

When I used to work in an office that had that crap on, the radio learned to fly and then crashed. I think the pilot's name was McSame. He was an expert at crashing things.
I love turning people on to Fla. books. Have a good rest, Bob
What a ticket. It is a win before it begins.

John McCain: I did not spend five years in the Hanoi Hilton.....
The American People: I don't see any connection to Vietnam, John.
John McCain: Well, there isn't a literal connection.
The American People: John, face it, there isn't any connection..... Everything's a fuckin' travesty with you, man! And what was all that shit about Vietnam? What the FUCK, has anything got to do with Vietnam? What the fuck are you talking about?
No, it is not coincidence. Arizona is overwhelmed with illegal aliens.
Los Angeles is, too. Just last Friday yet another emergency room had to close here,
due to running out of money. It was handling one thousandpatients a day.
bluegal, thanks for pointing to the Media is Plural post. The article does not call AZ the capitol of hate radio but it does reflect they have some of the the "hatiest" who seem to relish in the hate more than I have seen anywhere. Here they are proud of being right wing and ignorant but these AZ wingnuts seem proud of their hate. As has been pointed out, Pheonix is also home of some progressive radio also. But it does appears the right wingers want AZ to have the title of "Our hate talkers hate more than your hate talkers."
What standard is being applied to call Arizona the new capital of hate radio.
They have the same rightie syndicateds as everyone else does, and a couple locals. Nothing that particularly stands out. You'll find more hate talk radio in supposedly liberal Californis than you do in Arizona.
That's a fantastic Consortium News piece.
