A vote for McCain instead of Obama if they voted for Clinton in the primary is just the same as spitting on Clinton's values and the values of the American people.
She did alright but she didnt mention that O is ready to lead and up to being CIC. Close but no cigar. Sorry.
Eh. It has been a mistake free convention so far. That is the goal. In the end, the pundits will FINALLY realize that this has been a mistake free convention.

If anyone can still harbor any resentment to her or her supporters, their fucked up.

I thought Senator Clinton was fantastic tonight. It was sadly comical to see all the pundits falling all over themselves to still push the bullsh*t storyline of disaffected Democrats and intra-party strife. Oy. Get over it already corporate media...
They want to be sure the republican talking points are thrown out there, and beaten into our heads. The heck with the Democratic National Convention, let's report on what Mitt & the rest of the right wing nut jobs have to say!
DENVER - While former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner gave the Democratic convention keynote address, Republican Rudy Giuliani was arguing that Barack Obama isn't ready for prime time.
"If Democrats are telling us he's not ready to be president of the United States, we better listen," former presidential candidate Giuliani, a John McCain surrogate here, said in an interview on the Fox News Channel.
Giuliani, along with another vanquished McCain foe, Mitt Romney, made a flurry of media rounds in the continuing GOP effort to counter the Democratic convention narrative.
"She hit it out the park, no doubt about it." ...
Absolutely. A tape-measure, grand-slam into the bleachers. As someone who voted for her in the primary, and later was very disappointed with her Republican-like tactics, I can only say that she conducted herself with impeccable class tonight and gained back a lot of the respect she had tarnished earlier this year.

I didnt watch, but want to know, did she address the threat to reproductive rights and equal pay for women as threats posed by McCain?
I think these are the things that need to be held up to the faces of her angry supporters and be told that voting for McCain or against Obama is the absolute DUMBEST way to show off your angry-feminist street cred.
She did alright but she didnt mention that O is ready to lead and up to being CIC. Close but no cigar. Sorry.
Douche. She did over & over. Maybe you shoulda pulled your head outta your cats arse & you would have noticed that her speech was far beyond perfect. I can't wait until McIdiot has to read his speech from a teleprompter (fingers crossed for a lime green background)

As someone who gets more enjoyment listening to talk radio during "drive time", all I have to say is...enough is enough.
Enough of listening to the insults of the Levins, Limbaughs and Hannitys of the world.
The time is now. All of us. It is time to remind the country of what DEMOCRATS have done for the average American. What we have done America. The GOP is the party of fiscal restraint? HA! The emperor has no clothes. The GOP is the party of liberty and equality? HA! The emperor has no clothes. The GOP is the party of responsibilty in foreign policy? HA! The emperor has no clothes.
Let's do it!!! We can win. We WILL win. All of us together. Gays, women, minorities...EVERYONE!

I'm all for party unity. But, I still think that there are underlying issues from the Primaries that didn't get solved. But I doubt that people are messed up for not believing her. She did some really appalling things that are not easily forgettable.
Yes, she spoke well (as much as a monotone, stilted oratory style can bring), but she still hasn't changed her spots. They've only mutated to a different form.

Not sure if she mentioned reproductive rights, but she did mention equal pay for women.

Billy was mighty proud ov ol' Hill tonight, ya'll. His puffy face went all pink.
BEST F'IN SPEECH Senator Clinton has ever made. Well done.
PS, watched CNN-HD and, uh, oh, boy...hi-def alright... But what the fuck is with the sound meter along the side? Is this a Monster Truck show CNN? I know you all have a big erection for filling the screen with useless eye-candy and shit to read...but screw you and your sound meter.

Nothing less than the fate of our nation and the future of our children hang in the balance.
We've got to ensure that the choice we make in this election honors the sacrifices of all who came before us, and will fill the lives of our children with possibility and hope.
I am honored to be here tonight. A proud mother. A proud Democrat. A proud American. And a proud supporter of Barack Obama.
Eh, I wish they hadn't felt the need to make the long intro video and I wish she hadn't focused so much of her speech on her and why she ran for president. I understand that the DNC feels they need to appease her supporters, and that's fine, but I feel like much of the thrust of the whole thing was more "Man, Hillary was an awesome candidate" rather than "Hillary calls for unison and supports Obama."
There's a huge contrast to flip between msnbc and fox's take on the speech..
I noticed that too. Nearly every Fox talking head repeated the line "No endorsement." What speech were they listening to? Hillary did a fantastic job...best of the convention so far. Perhaps they should let her speak again tomorrow!
I'm not a Hillary-head, but that was not only the best speech I've ever seen her give, it's one of the best speeches I've ever seen anyone give. I don't see how any Democrat could ask for more. Take that, Republicans and the media, who wanted to see a divided Democratic party and only tepid support of Obama by Clinton.
Sorry to tell everybody, but all TV networks and most blogs have utterly failed in their coverage of the DNC. Crooks and Liars has done well (and thanks so much for the Kucinich video) but everybody else seems to be partying more than working. TV is succeeding in turning off half the voters in the country. No wonder we are in such a mess.
I am no hillary fan, but she gave a great speech, and she did her best to demonstrate party unity, backing Barack Obama for President and Joe Biden for Vice-President.
November 4th cannot come soon enough, NO MORE LOYAL BUSHIES!!!

Her speech was good/great, however I'm not sure whether it pulled in her supporters who now claim to either vote for McCain or not vote at all.
I went back and forth with Hillary (at first I was for voting for Barack Obama, then, seeing this really really intense sexism happening, I wanted to switch to her. Then again, after seeing her campaign getting so mangled in racism and personal attacks, I decided again for Obama)
Still, the sexism was horrendous - most still feel better to vote for a man, any man - be it black or white - rather than vote for a woman. To now see these pundits talk about how she won about half of the votes and deserves blah blah blah......it makes me want to puke.
THEY are the ones to make fun of/ignore the horrific history McCain has on women. Calling his own wife a c*nt???? 'How do we beat the bitch? ....... Haha. Great question though....' Etc etc.
I'm mad/sad/disappointed that Hillary did not point out the horrible stances of John McCain vs. Barack Obama. How women would be so much worse off under a McCain administration.
I hoped she would do more to get her supporters and/or independants to the Obama ticket.....
Oh well......so we may lose again......shoot me already.
I understand that the DNC feels they need to appease her supporters, and that's fine, but I feel like much of the thrust of the whole thing was more "Man, Hillary was an awesome candidate" rather than "Hillary calls for unison and supports Obama."
I believe thats what much of the negotiating was about before the convention. How to let Hillary support Obama while still making her feel as important as she thinks she is.
I thought it was a well done speech but it wasn't for Obama supporters. It was 100% directed to that 30% of Hillary supporters who'd rather vote for McCain. On that account, she did great. At times it felt like watching a parralel universe version of the convention had Hillary won the nom though.
I think Hillary did all right with her speech, and about time she prodded her supporters to help Obama.
BTW, anyone see that McSame stole her '3AM Call' and basically slapped his "I approve this message" on after it? Keith Olbermann called him out on it before the Hillary speech, and while I was switching between the channels to see how the talking heads covered the many speakers, I saw Fixed Noise air that ad twice. -_-

Bill and Hillary have been great for the country. Bill Clinton played it straight down the middle, he reformed social services, he defended the country and he balanced the budget. He was a great President. Hillary has always been a defender of the poor, the disenfrancised, working people and children. She is a great American.
I look forward to them being "in the game" with Barack Obama.
We're gonna win, and show the country once again...what is good and right about the Democratic Party.
"Hit it out of the park"? I don't think so. What did people expect? I didn't hear her say Obama has the experience. I didn't hear her say Obama can take the 3 am call. I didn't hear her say low income White voters will vote for Obama. I didn't hear her say Obama has the right stance on Iran. I could go on.
Of course she was gonna say vote for Obama. And yeah, props for the did you vote for me or for the marine..., etc...". But 1/2 the speech was her campaigning. I also never heard her say, and she NEEDED to say, "If you voted for me in the primary, you need to vote for Obama." It needed to be explicit.
I know we all want unity, and I damn sure hope this was enough, but from the pure perspective of what she needed to, and what she actually said, I (again) was disappointed with HRC.
She touched on everything from civil rights to womens rights to renewable energy to expanding our job base with green technology. And she even started off telling her supporters to vote for Obama.

Are you unfamiliar with the way conventions work?
Please read Eric Boehlert's Media Matter piece giving a little bit of DNC history before it lambastes the press for giving the public the impression that Hillary is somehow detracting from Obama's candidacy.
I find that there are a lot of Hillary haters out there who are completely uninformed about historical precedents and hold her to a much higher standard than any other politician that came before her.
Hillary, simply by her presence tonight reminded everyone that their are millions of voters in the Dem Party who want her heard, whether the other stooges in the party want to listen or not. Democracy 101.
BTW, anyone see that McSame stole her '3AM Call' and basically slapped his "I approve this message" on after it?
I think the Dems should run a '3PM Call' ad against McCain. The 'call' comes in, and there he is, broad daylight, slippers on and snoozin' the day away. 'Sir.' 'Mmmmphhh...' 'Sir.' 'Mmmmpphh...not now Vicky...'
those hillary supporters who say they won't vote for obama are going to be directly resposible for the murder of our american servicemen and women. because if mccain wins, that dirty motherfucker will get us involved in another war for no reason, because he will be beholden to the neocons. think about that before you make your decision. a vote for mccain is a death sentence for our service personel. it will be on you.

Dude, I didn't caucus for her, but come on; she hit it out of the park tonight. I will absolutely vote for her in eight years if she runs.
As to your concern: please consider the possibility that she didn't mention that because it does not need mentioning, and mentioning it merely represents insecurity over an issue that only exists if you mention it.

Hillary lost primarily because she was betrayed by the Dem Leadership who participated in James Clyburn's campaign to paint the Clintons as racists.
Great speech? You're kidding right? Obama is doomed.
In fact, it was so good that it undoubtedly wrapped up the win for McPOW. Remember, everything good that happens to the Democrats is secretly (and then publicly, when the MSM tells us) good for Republicans.
Clinton has become a fine public speaker. Some people read speeches and some deliver them with passion and conviction. HRC is clearly in the latter category.
And some butcher them, e.g., Mark Warner -- worst keynote ever?
She did alright but she didnt mention that O is ready to lead and up to being CIC. Close but no cigar. Sorry.
Keith, don't listen to these people saying you're wrong - you're right - that is the clip the repubs are playing nonstop, those were her words, she had to explicitly take them back/flip them - it's a soundbite world - needed a soundbite to directly address that MAJOR mistake from the primaries
good speech, but not great or 500-foot homerun - I'm glad people are reacting positively to it, since that's the goal, I just don't think she checked every important box that she had to to make up for the shit she pulled in the primaries
She touched on everything from civil rights to womens rights to renewable energy to expanding our job base with green technology. And she even started off telling her supporters to vote for Obama.
If anyone can still harbor any resentment to her or her supporters, their fucked up.

No offense mudshark, but I won't forget what she and her husband did in the primaries no matter how much you or other people feel. I don't like to sweep things under the rug without a proper accounting for it. It's like being apathetic in a dysfunctional family and condoning the past abuse that has gone on.
All you saw of Hilllary tonight is to give a speech in which her political reputation rested upon it. Literally, she had give that speech or else. So, if she had to act as sincere and as genuine as possible to do it, then I'll have to say she did give a fine speech. It was great acting that she had to do.
But, her words did not resolve her actions in W.Virginia (equating "hardworking with white, blue-collared people"), they did not resolve her presumption that Obama was "Muslim", they did not resolve the continued perpetuation that Obama is not experienced. And they sure didn't resolve how her supporters have used subtle racism in her support on Taylor Marsh and elsewhere against people of color and Barack Obama.
So, no, I won't forget. I'm for party unity, yes. But I expect change in terms of letting this party support everyone. Not just angry feminists. Not just centrists. Not just the establishment. And not just the ones that lie prostrate and agree with the Republicans every turn at the hat.
We truly have to make this an inclusive party for everyone to live up to what the platform promises.
As far as I'm concerned, people should not get over it and try to strive to truly make the DNC a big tent as it should be. And Hillary, does not advocate this. She advocates her own cult of personality and continues to do so.
It was soooo refreshing to hear and see a great speech delivered with nary a glance at her script (except at the beginning). Exceptional well done - much like Bill's speech at the DNC in 2000.
It was especially nice of Hillary to mention Arkansas's own Bill Gwatney (R.I.P) and my old hometown of Seneca Falls N.Y. - home of the first Women's Rights Convention.
Contrast that with the "twin cities" Bush/McCain's ineptitude to get past two sentences without fucking up or having to read theirs. The Rethuglicants will try hard at their convention to be as well versed - but the can't because they are not.
I find that there are a lot of Hillary haters out there who are completely uninformed about historical precedents and hold her to a much higher standard than any other politician that came before her.
Exellent speech. But the only thing she didn't do was hit home to woman voters that their constitiutional right to privacy is a stake. McCain is planning on allowing a male-dominated Supreme Court dictate their re-productive rights. That's a huge emotional issue.
I understand FOX Noise are spinning this like crazy. And Wolf Blitzer (prick!) and CNN are still milking the alleged divisions in the party. Is it just a case of ratings to these people?
Hillary kicked butt and everyone knows it even if they don't want to admit it. Hillary got for her supporters the Universal Health Care Plan for all of us. That's what she and her supporters were fighting for and that's what she got. She's not looking out for herself but for the American people. Now those who still have a problem with Hillary must have deep issues within themselves with strong woman. But most men who are not threaten by a woman and are strong themselves know Hillary did great. It's been a long hard struggle for Woman since the Woman's Rights bill was passed but Hillary has made positive growth for the future.
Hillary, simply by her presence tonight reminded everyone that their are millions of voters in the Dem Party who want her heard, whether the other stooges in the party want to listen or not. Democracy 101.

Hillary lost primarily because she was betrayed by the Dem Leadership who participated in James Clyburn's campaign to paint the Clintons as racists.
No... she lost because she didnt put the effort into Iowa, then failed to plan adequately for an extended campaign after Big Tuesday. She failed to to take into account, despite all her 'experience' how the proportional primary system works and campaign effectively with it in mind. I'm reminded of a clip, again a direct slap in the face of her claims of experience, where she is talking about how hard it was to understand the Texas primary/caucus system. Obama's campaign understood it. She failed to appropriately manage the personalities of the top people in her campaign, directing their energies and focus into a concerted effort to get her elected. A classic failure of leadership.

I'd have to agree with ContelPro. There's a contingent of people on both sides who have become entrenched in their opinions of each candidate that no matter how many times the other offers support there will be bitterness. It's Obama supporters and Hillary supporters.
"Hit it out of the park"? I don't think so. What did people expect? I didn't hear her say Obama has the experience. I didn't hear her say Obama can take the 3 am call. Do you really think she wasn't going to say vote for Obama? She had to, it's protocol. Again I ask you if she addressed the 3 am question (where she literally sided with McCain. Did she mention experience, something she attacked Obama on relentlessly? Did she mention how Obama COULD win the election, something she said he couldn't do in the primary (by playing the race card no less). She coulda said don't listen to the McCain adds targets my supporters.
I'm not saying this was a horrible speech. I'm not saying it wasn't enough. But I didn't want to leave any leeway, and she coulda gone a lot further (in my opinion).

Even if the candidates put on that stiff upper lip, there are many on both sides who doled out the lashes during the debate season and both sides have people who are still nursing their anger.
I'd have to agree with ContelPro. There's a contingent of people on both sides who have become entrenched in their opinions of each candidate that no matter how many times the other offers support there will be bitterness. It's Obama supporters and Hillary supporters.
I'm sorry Nicole, but did you read Boehlert's piece? The two examples he cites (Jerry Brown and Jessee Jackson) did what they did out of anger and spite:
Indeed, for weeks leading up to the convention, Brown refused to back his party's nominee, complaining to The New York Times in June that supporting Clinton was like buying a ticket for the Titanic.
Jesse Jackson, furious at being passed over for the vice-presidential slot by the party's nominee, Michael Dukakis (who failed to call Jackson and tell him the VP news), threatened to withhold his delegates' support from the party's nominee. In fact, just hours before the convention began, Jackson's supporters threatened to place the candidate's name into nomination for the vice presidency, which would have created a massive floor fight between Jackson and Dukakis' pick, Sen. Lloyd Bentsen of Texas.
Yet people who believe that Clinton is being divisive or egocentric are not only irrational but "completely uninformed"? C'mon. Both Brown and Jackson took plenty of heat for their antics, but Hillary must be held above the fray? Why?
She touched on everything from civil rights to womens rights to renewable energy to expanding our job base with green technology. And she even started off telling her supporters to vote for Obama.
If anyone can still harbor any resentment to her or her supporters, their fucked up.
Adios PUMA's.
OK, Lets move forward now. No More McCain.
Obama/Biden 08
I'm all for party unity. But, I still think that there are underlying issues from the Primaries that didn't get solved. But I doubt that people are messed up for not believing her. She did some really appalling things that are not easily forgettable.
Yes, she spoke well (as much as a monotone, stilted oratory style can bring), but she still hasn't changed her spots. They've only mutated to a different form.
I'll forego the animosity for now. She towed the line, which is an awesome step for her to take. Good on her!
Thank you, Cointelpro. I'm sorry I had to speak my mind about this, but somebody has to. I'm also glad she towed the line. But, I question her motives in this entire process. That's all.
She did alright but she didnt mention that O is ready to lead and up to being CIC. Close but no cigar. Sorry.
Eh. It has been a mistake free convention so far. That is the goal. In the end, the pundits will FINALLY realize that this has been a mistake free convention.
Bubba
Biden
and
Obama yet to come!
The staging of the convention has been masterful in the way that each night it keeps building in intensity. Think about it... if you heard the same speech content over and over again it would get old by the fourth night... they thought this out very well.
The funny thing about the MSM pundits and the PUMA BS is that it actually helped Obama and the party. It added drama and no doubt caused the ratings to go up as everyone tuned in to see what the hell was going to happen with Hillary's speech... they wanted to see a train wreck... what they got instead was the straight out launch of a bullet train!
Hillary gave the best speech of her career and it will long be remembered.
"If you hear the dogs, keep going. If you see the torches in the woods, keep going. If there's shouting after you, keep going. Don't ever stop. Keep going. If you want a taste of freedom, keep going."
No offense Ceci, but it would appear that you're the one with the issues now. Time to move forward Ceci .
Both campaigns are guilty Ceci. No one is innocent in this. Let it go and lets move forward.
None taken Ceci.
I don't listen to what talking heads say about remarks made by politicians or how pundits define someone elses comments.
I listen to them myself, and decide what context they are in.
I don't believe for one moment she made a comment about Obama being a Muslim.
The Clintons are not racists.
It all depends on who you listen too. Or if you don't.
That being said, I hope you come to some kind of personal conclusion with this Ceci.
have a nice evening, good night.
Still amazes me that she needs to convince her die-hard supporters that they should be voting for Obama!
Since most of them probably agree with her Iraq war vote, they probably would not mind a McCain in the White House.
this goes along with Michelle Obama reassuring America that she's an american mother, wife, daughter, sister, educated, thoughtful and married to a good black man who wants to be there for his children. She had to be passionate without being angry. Her reward - Rove says she didn't say enough how much she loves america.
the repug framing with the help of the SCLM has made it all necessary.
Hillary did a fine job. At 3:38 she said "no way, no mcCain". earlier she said "barack Obama is MY candidate". most of the media said it was a non-endorsement. the media onslaught against the dems has been ramping up and shows no signs of abating. that's what we are stuck with.
We would not stoop to the level that the Obama campaign did when they painted the Clintons as racists and actually the whole of Hillary's constituency as racist. It is not surprising that the sleaze of the Obama campaign had invited such attacks that undoubtedly come from rabble rousers trying to stir up discontent.
Really? I mean, really? As a backer of Obama from the beginning, I thought she covered what needed to be covered in the time she was given. She said she supported Barack, she said McCain was unequivocally a poor choice, and took the time to thank everyone who had supported her during her run for the presidency. Really, not much else could be asked of her.
No, she could have done anything. I think that's the point. She didn't have to do anything of the sort, and many times in the past other candidates have in their own way sabotaged the chances of the candidate that ultimately got choses as the party ticket.
Hillary lost primarily because she was betrayed by the Dem Leadership who participated in James Clyburn's campaign to paint the Clintons as racists.
*blinks*
I'm amazed that you can say that with a straight face. Betrayed by the Democratic Leadership? How in the hell do you reach that conclusion? Most of the leadership was FOR Clinton before the actual vote counting started...and then they did what most politicians do and go where the wind blows.
The only person who lost this primary for Hillary Clinton was Mark Penn. He banked too much on the big states because he believed (mistakenly) that the Democratic primary was winner-take-all like the Republican primary. He discounted the caucus states, then dismissed them after discounting them. He ran a piss-poor campaign, and he's the one who blew it for Clinton.
Your comment is out of line and has no basis in reality. Get over your bitterness and self pity and embrace the message that HRC delivered masterfully tonight. And if you don't like rabble rousers stirring up discontent, don't be one yourself.
Do you really think she wasn't going to say vote for Obama? She had to, it's protocol. Again I ask you if she addressed the 3 am question (where she literally sided with McCain. Please learn some history. See my comment at #59.
Ted Kennedy REFUSED TO SHAKE Jimmy Carter's hand at the convention. There have been FAR more hostile moments between former primary rivals.
She did well, give her credit, for God's sake. This kind of shit isn't helping anyone but McCain.
Eh, I wish they hadn't felt the need to make the long intro video and I wish she hadn't focused so much of her speech on her and why she ran for president. I don't think she was detracting, I think she was not buttressing enough. Like Teddy Phuf said, "I didn’t hear her say Obama has the experience. I didn’t hear her say Obama can take the 3 am call. I didn’t hear her say low income White voters will vote for Obama. I didn’t hear her say Obama has the right stance on Iran. I could go on... It needed to be explicit."
There are people who are still very strong Clinton supporters, and even though I think the number of her supporters who will ultimately vote for McCain is extremely small, those few people need to be asked very directly to support Obama for very explicit, concrete, and positional reasons.
Admittedly I'm not 100% up on my DNC history, but whatever historical precedent exists here is pretty unimportant both because it's such an usual situation and because you can't expect the audience Clinton spoke to tonight to know anything about that precedent. Maybe she did well in light of the precedent, but nobody who supported her and is thinking about not voting for Obama is going to consider that precedent in deciding whether her endorsement of Obama was strong enough to sway them.
And I'm no hater, but she's an extremely intelligent leader who moves very carefully with a vital role to play in an extremely important situation; of course she should be held to a high standard here.
I see, dismissing voters in caucus states as not counting wasn't stooping? Counting on racists not voting for Obama as a reason to vote for her wasn't stooping? Saying that the republican candidate would be a better president than her colleague wasn't stooping? The rovian tactics? The lying? The pandering? Plenty of stooping all around though I think the Clinton campaign engaged in far more than the Obama campaign did. Nonetheless, none of that matters because that is all par for the course. What it comes down to is that Hillary mismanaged her campaign. Despite her claims of experience and readiness to lead she failed to run her own campaign effectively.
Still amazes me that she needs to convince her die-hard supporters that they should be voting for Obama!

A lot of people in the audience seemed to be saying (with their faces): "I hear what you're saying but I'm not sure I can do what you ask."
It will be interesting to see what the reactions are from her supporters.
We would not stoop to the level that the Obama campaign did when they painted the Clintons as racists and actually the whole of Hillary's constituency as racist. You know it's tough when your candidate of choice doesn't make it but you got to ask yourself what is your other choice? McCain? Stay home and don't vote?
I voted for Obama and my husband voted for Hillary. We are now on the same page as to whom we will vote for in November...Obama....
We all need to pull together and forget the bitterness of the past. That is if you want us to survive without Russia breathing down our necks.

And if you think she didn't have to do anything, and ever wants to run for office in any capacity, I don't think you're being very realistic. Unless that is she pulls a Lieberman and runs as a Republican.

I'm sorry Nicole, but did you read Boehlert's piece? The two examples he cites (Jerry Brown and Jessee Jackson) did what they did out of anger and spite:

Show me where Hillary did any of that. Or do you just take your information from the media looking to keep a cat PUMA fight going.
I'm not saying she needs to be held above the fray, I'm saying that other candidates did much worse and yet she did everything she could to support Obama but it will NEVER be enough for some of you Hillary haters.
Whatever. Your hate and disunity will help McCain, not Obama. Hope that comforts you.
I guess I'm on another planet cause me and my girlfriend were on the couch trying not to puke through the whole thing. The whole thing is a charade of non-sense.
Sorry Nicole, I love your writing and wit but at a time when the constitution has been shredded, our economy is on the brink of disaster and our tax dollars are basically in servitude to war profiteers and other corporations... precedent be damned.
It sounded so contrived and filled with every predictable, fuzzy-feeling, we're all in the same boat except when we're being funded by the same interests that fund the other side, load of garbage I would expect from the status quo consultants that the DNC forces everyone in the party to use.
The dopes that grovel at these pompous, theatrical productions every four years would hoot and holler for the same void promises regardless of the candidate. They allow the mainstream media to frame what's reality and so it becomes so... regardless if democrats voted for the war, keep on voting to extend the war and give corporations the freedom to spy on the "average working man".
A sham of the highest order and everybody that buys into this crap only has themselves to blame when nothing changes regardless of the candidate that's elected. The companies that are funding the Republican party are the same ones funding the Democratic party.
The funny thing about the MSM pundits and the PUMA BS is that it actually helped Obama and the party. After tonight's performance, clearly the things that hurt her campaign were the Iraq vote, Kyl/Lieberman, and Mark Penn. Even Begala slagged Penn tonight. Obama was just an equally good candidate, campaigner, and vote-getter. Fundraising of course played a part, also.
Do you really think she wasn't going to say vote for Obama? She had to, it's protocol. Again I ask you if she addressed the 3 am question (where she literally sided with McCain. I think Nicole did a fine job of pointing out instances in post #109 ;)
She did alright but she didnt mention that O is ready to lead and up to being CIC. Close but no cigar. Sorry.
Dude, I didn't caucus for her, but come on; she hit it out of the park tonight. I will absolutely vote for her in eight years if she runs.
As to your concern: please consider the possibility that she didn't mention that because it does not need mentioning, and mentioning it merely represents insecurity over an issue that only exists if you mention it.

have a nice evening, good night.
Good evening to you as well, mudshark.
But, we'll have to disagree. She said verbatim that she and McCain have more experience than Obama. She said verbatim that hard work is equated with the white working class. She and her husband has a track record of throwing (Black) people under the bus when politically convenient (Lani Guiniere, Joycelyn Elders, etc. Although, I'm really shocked she mentioned Stephanie Tubbs-Jones in her speech).
You say you listen closely to people's speeches. I do too. So we have something in common. And as a result, we have two different perspectives we draw upon. So, it's understandable that you wouldn't see anything there, while people with a different cultural and gender context would.
Furthermore, I think the evidence has to speak for itself whether the Clintons participated in racist behavior (especially playing the race card) during the Primaries. The evidence alone says a lot.
Lastly, I think if she truly wanted unity, she would have left the 18 million supporters out of her speech and spoke mainly on point regarding the platform of the party. Then, it would have been more believable that she had turned a new leaf.
Hillary lost primarily because she was betrayed by the Dem Leadership who participated in James Clyburn's campaign to paint the Clintons as racists.

Agree and I suppose it's worth talking about only because we'll hear lots of debate tomorrow about how unfair the rules were in the primaries this year. Only hope folks remember that when the rules were written back in 2005-2006, Hillary was the overwhelming favorite and her supporters dominated the DNC who actually drafted the rules.
Some of you folks will never be happy about any god damn thing. Get over it. Move on.
unfuckingbelievable. All you folks still harboring resentment to which ever candidate are going to be the reason the Dems will lose this election. I'm over this bullshit.
see ya.

I'm also from a split household but there is no way in hell my partner would vote for McCain. She does not like Obama at all, thinks Hillary is terrific, but would vote for the lowliest Democrat imaginable in November if necessary.
For both of us, there's nothing worse than the prospect of another Republican in the White House. Nothing.
You are such a chronic fool and liar. Let it go, OK? Isn't that what Hillary told you to do tonight?
I wish there was something about him or his campaign that I could find worth voting for, but I have yet to see anything. All I see is arrogance and know-nothingness - an unbearable combination.
The Very Bitter Ceci Hussein @ 128:
maybe hill could have done better.
maybe we should take up her call and unify, too.
she's out of the picture for now. maybe we can focus on the enemy now and divert our energies from attacking each other.
Yeah Hillary... give me a friggen break.
Yes you are on another planet, the planet of intractable cynicism. You seem to have all the time to complain and tear things down but no time to take affirmative action to lift our country up. Our country does not need any more complainers who jam up our system. We need engaged and determined people who are willing to go to work, are in it for the long haul, and want to change the world incrementally for the better.
Like it or not, you get exactly what you pay for. No investment---no gain. You make the call.
You are such a chronic fool and liar. Let it go, OK? Isn't that what Hillary told you to do tonight?
I wish there was something about him or his campaign that I could find worth voting for, but I have yet to see anything. All I see is arrogance and know-nothingness - an unbearable combination.
A. His arrogance is normal, he's a politician. His arrogance is on par with Hillary's and most other politicians.
B. He knew enough to beat Hillary in the primaries.
C. Isn't stopping another term of Bush/Cheney/Neocon ideology running the country (into the dirt) enough?
Jerry Brown and Jesse Jackson? I'm a fan of both those guys but if you are telling me that they were legitimate candidates (and I WISH they were) than you need a little perspective.
Look, we all want unity. But if you can't listen to analysis that contradicts what you want in your heart of hearts you're not looking at this honestly.
Teddy Phuf @ 54:
No, she could have done anything. I think that's the point. She didn't have to do anything of the sort, and many times in the past other candidates have in their own way sabotaged the chances of the candidate that ultimately got choses as the party ticket.
Educate me. In modern era, what legitimate candidate from either party ever sabotaged the nominee?
And if you think she didn't have to do anything, and ever wants to run for office in any capacity, I don't think you're being very realistic. Unless that is she pulls a Lieberman and runs as a Republican.
I know we all want unity, and I damn sure hope this was enough, but from the pure perspective of what she needed to, and what she actually said, I (again) was disappointed with HRC.

element of this party....she gave her speech she said what she wanted and how she wanted.....no matter how you look at it....it was difficult for her and all of us. the war between hillary and barack is one of the reasons this current race is close. now we need hillary/bill to support barack and democratic party.
Teddy, both Brown and Jackson earned the right by being runners up to speak at the conventions, just as Hillary did. Neither was particularly gracious about it.
As to credible candidates--um, Teddy Kennedy? Is that modern and credible enough for you? He refused to shake Carter's hand on stage. Can you imagine the embolism you'd blow if Hillary did something like that?
I think it's time for some self-reflection to see whether you really just want to hate Hillary no matter what she does. With all due respect, the little time I've spent with you leads me to believe that.
Coupling the Harriet Tubman / underground railroad "keep going" imagery with the necessity of supporting Obama was very clever.
It simultaneously justified the prolonged primary fight and getting in line now. In fact, it merged the two. It offered her supporters a reason to continue to be proud of their campaign and to believe that supporting Obama now was not in any way a betrayal of that pride.
Her message tonight: The reasons I kept going despite the nastiness are the very same reasons we must support Obama now.
You are such a chronic fool and liar. Let it go, OK? Isn't that what Hillary told you to do tonight?

good stuff, she mauled 'im
Wow!
Now will it stick?
She did alright but she didnt mention that O is ready to lead and up to being CIC. Close but no cigar. Sorry.
Come on Hillary fans support Obama.
Hillary can still run in 4 years.
Hillary Tries to Turn ‘PUMAs’ Into ‘NIKEs’
Fan-fucking-fastic speech!
Harriet Tubman's chant....Keep Going!
That's the Hilary I really respect.
Now we can officially call the PUMA's
Clinton's Unloyal Undermining Troops
A vote for McCain instead of Obama if they voted for Clinton in the primary is just the same as spitting on Clinton's values and the values of the American people.
keith Irvin @ 3:
Please. No speech can do everything. This was a box of cigars. Damn good speach.
keith Irvin @ 3:
Eh. It has been a mistake free convention so far. That is the goal. In the end, the pundits will FINALLY realize that this has been a mistake free convention.
Bubba
Biden
and
Obama yet to come!
Now we can officially call the PUMA's
Clinton's Unloyal Narcissistic Troops
A vote for McCain instead of Obama if they voted for Clinton in the primary is just the same as spitting on Clinton's values and the future of the next generation.
I applaud Clinton for a great speech.
keith Irvin @ 3:
Is that you William "The Bloody" KKKristol because that is exactly what he said, and if he said it you know its not relevant!
If anybody wants to claim Hillary Clinton doesn't whole heartedly support Barack Obama for president, they just got their truth-o-cution.
Obama/Biden 08
nin-mofo @ 9:
Yeah man the finale will be something else.
Thanks Hillary!
She nailed it. Absolutely.
Hasn't Chelsea become a beautiful, poised, articulate young woman?
Hey, choke on that, Rush, you filthy bastard.
I thought Senator Clinton was fantastic tonight. It was sadly comical to see all the pundits falling all over themselves to still push the bullsh*t storyline of disaffected Democrats and intra-party strife. Oy. Get over it already corporate media...
The Twin Cities.heh, LMAO!
The Associated Press is at it again!
They want to be sure the republican talking points are thrown out there, and beaten into our heads. The heck with the Democratic National Convention, let's report on what Mitt & the rest of the right wing nut jobs have to say!
GOP 'war room' revs up as Giuliani goes on air
DENVER - While former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner gave the Democratic convention keynote address, Republican Rudy Giuliani was arguing that Barack Obama isn't ready for prime time.
"If Democrats are telling us he's not ready to be president of the United States, we better listen," former presidential candidate Giuliani, a John McCain surrogate here, said in an interview on the Fox News Channel.
Giuliani, along with another vanquished McCain foe, Mitt Romney, made a flurry of media rounds in the continuing GOP effort to counter the Democratic convention narrative.
BigIslandDave @ 15:
Yeah, she has.
I wonder if she'll get into politics?
"She hit it out the park, no doubt about it." ...
Absolutely. A tape-measure, grand-slam into the bleachers. As someone who voted for her in the primary, and later was very disappointed with her Republican-like tactics, I can only say that she conducted herself with impeccable class tonight and gained back a lot of the respect she had tarnished earlier this year.
I am very very grateful that she gave that speech.
Period.
AMEN!!!
Man, I would bang that cankle quick!!
Great speech.
There's a huge contrast to flip between msnbc and fox's take on the speech..
keith Irvin @ 3:
Douche. She did over & over. Maybe you shoulda pulled your head outta your cats arse & you would have noticed that her speech was far beyond perfect. I can't wait until McIdiot has to read his speech from a teleprompter (fingers crossed for a lime green background)
Lets see PUMA! or are you pussy cats now?
Not what I expected, but I have to admit. SHE DID FANTASTIC
Black_Knight @ 7:
maybe you missed the memo: the PUMAs are largely a figment of the media's desire to divide the dems.
And I can't wait to see Hillary standing beside Obama when he signs universal health care into law!
Great speech; great woman.
Now republican Loving media; stfu!
GREAT SPEECH! UNITY!
[despite the best efforts of the trolls on this site]
The Reptilian Repuklicans are going DOWN!!!!
mudshark @ 13:
I'm all for party unity. But, I still think that there are underlying issues from the Primaries that didn't get solved. But I doubt that people are messed up for not believing her. She did some really appalling things that are not easily forgettable.
Yes, she spoke well (as much as a monotone, stilted oratory style can bring), but she still hasn't changed her spots. They've only mutated to a different form.
Filthy Harry @ 23:
Not sure if she mentioned reproductive rights, but she did mention equal pay for women.
"We are on the same team..."
Damn straight.

Wanna try another bloody bill stupid quote?
Eh, I wish they hadn't felt the need to make the long intro video and I wish she hadn't focused so much of her speech on her and why she ran for president. Mike @ 24:
The Very Bitter Ceci Hussein @ 32:
No offense Ceci, but it would appear that you're the one with the issues now. Time to move forward Ceci .
Both campaigns are guilty Ceci. No one is innocent in this. Let it go and lets move forward.
Oh well......so we may lose again......shoot me already.
ultra @ 37:
I believe thats what much of the negotiating was about before the convention. How to let Hillary support Obama while still making her feel as important as she thinks she is.
So far so good. Let's see the rest (stuck in the sticks with no TV).
I love KO, but I think he just creamed his pants over the speech. ...even more emotional than Chris Matthews.
Well, it was one hell of a speech.
I thought it was a well done speech but it wasn't for Obama supporters. It was 100% directed to that 30% of Hillary supporters who'd rather vote for McCain. On that account, she did great. At times it felt like watching a parralel universe version of the convention had Hillary won the nom though.
You know what would be greater???
If Obama, Bill, and Hillary held a joint UNITY rally next Friday right after the Republican convention!!!
Biden's probably going to be a little old to run in eight years. Or maybe even four.
Maybe there's a little deal going on here. Hillary comes out swingin', then gets the VP gig somewhere down the track, setting up for a WH run.
She never took back the ammo McCain pounding Obama with.
B
She did wonderful, an immensely talented woman. Her daughter is gorgeous. And watching Bill work the crowd is always enjoyable.

Hillary, simply by her presence tonight reminded everyone that their are millions of voters in the Dem Party who want her heard, whether the other stooges in the party want to listen or not. Democracy 101.
Jeri @ 49:

What speach were you watching. Liberal AND Proud @ 64:
In short, Neocons.
keith Irvin @ 3:

Still amazes me that she needs to convince her die-hard supporters that they should be voting for Obama!
Since most of them probably agree with her Iraq war vote, they probably would not mind a McCain in the White House.
keith Irvin @ 3:
Keith, don't listen to these people saying you're wrong - you're right - that is the clip the repubs are playing nonstop, those were her words, she had to explicitly take them back/flip them - it's a soundbite world - needed a soundbite to directly address that MAJOR mistake from the primaries
good speech, but not great or 500-foot homerun - I'm glad people are reacting positively to it, since that's the goal, I just don't think she checked every important box that she had to to make up for the shit she pulled in the primaries

Nicole Belle @ 59:
Bingo!
That was an astounding speech. Thank you Hillary. Now lets go kick grandpa in his lying yellow teeth.
L.A. Confidential @ 78:
No... she lost because she didnt put the effort into Iowa, then failed to plan adequately for an extended campaign after Big Tuesday.

I'd have to agree with ContelPro. There's a contingent of people on both sides who have become entrenched in their opinions of each candidate that no matter how many times the other offers support there will be bitterness. It's Obama supporters and Hillary supporters.
Who are Larry King's exclusively Republican panel, btw?
That old fart is in the tank for McCain, I'm convinced of it. I bet he doesn't get an all-Dem panel for next week.
krisken @ 74:
L.A. Confidential @ 78:
krisken @ 91:
And there is my example ;)
Nicole Belle @ 59:
I'm sorry Nicole, but did you read Boehlert's piece? The two examples he cites (Jerry Brown and Jessee Jackson) did what they did out of anger and spite:
Yet people who believe that Clinton is being divisive or egocentric are not only irrational but "completely uninformed"? C'mon. Both Brown and Jackson took plenty of heat for their antics, but Hillary must be held above the fray? Why?
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Victory Over SCLM, DIEBOLD, ESS and SEQUOIA! @ 56:
Thank you, Cointelpro. I'm sorry I had to speak my mind about this, but somebody has to. I'm also glad she towed the line. But, I question her motives in this entire process. That's all.
I also have a long memory as well.
nin-mofo @ 9:
Keep going. If you want a taste of freedom, keep going."

this goes along with Michelle Obama reassuring America that she's an american mother, wife, daughter, sister, educated, thoughtful and married to a good black man who wants to be there for his children.
Filthy Harry @ 90:
We would not stoop to the level that the Obama campaign did when they painted the Clintons as racists and actually the whole of Hillary's constituency as racist. It is not surprising that the sleaze of the Obama campaign had invited such attacks that undoubtedly come from rabble rousers trying to stir up discontent.
Teddy Phuf @ 93:
No, she could have done anything. I think that's the point. She didn't have to do anything of the sort, and many times in the past other candidates have in their own way sabotaged the chances of the candidate that ultimately got choses as the party ticket.
PorridgeGun @ 92:
isn't larry on the 'Cain Noise Network?
L.A. Confidential @ 78:
L.A. Confidential @ 100:
I honestly wish you would stop.
I want Hillary as Secretary of State. She's made for it.
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Victory Over SCLM, DIEBOLD, ESS and SEQUOIA! @ 104:
You can't stop a train wreck. You just have to watch and mourn.
L.A. Confidential @ 100:
Your comment is out of line and has no basis in reality. Get over your bitterness and self pity and embrace the message that HRC delivered masterfully tonight. And if you don't like rabble rousers stirring up discontent, don't be one yourself.
Teddy Phuf @ 93:
Please learn some history. See my comment at #59.
Ted Kennedy REFUSED TO SHAKE Jimmy Carter's hand at the convention. There have been FAR more hostile moments between former primary rivals.
She did well, give her credit, for God's sake. This kind of shit isn't helping anyone but McCain.
Nicole Belle @ 59:
Trekkie @ 103:
L.A. Confidential @ 100:
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Victory Over SCLM, DIEBOLD, ESS and SEQUOIA! @ 99:
A lot of people in the audience seemed to be saying (with their faces): "I hear what you're saying but I'm not sure I can do what you ask."
It will be interesting to see what the reactions are from her supporters.
L.A. Confidential @ 100:
You know it's tough when your candidate of choice doesn't make it but you got to ask yourself what is your other choice? McCain? Stay home and don't vote?
I voted for Obama and my husband voted for Hillary. We are now on the same page as to whom we will vote for in November...Obama....
We all need to pull together and forget the bitterness of the past. That is if you want us to survive without Russia breathing down our necks.
krisken @ 101:
Educate me. In modern era, what legitimate candidate from either party ever sabotaged the nominee?
And if you think she didn't have to do anything, and ever wants to run for office in any capacity, I don't think you're being very realistic. Unless that is she pulls a Lieberman and runs as a Republican.

catPUMA fight going.I'm not saying she needs to be held above the fray, I'm saying that other candidates did much worse and yet she did everything she could to support Obama but it will NEVER be enough for some of you Hillary haters.
Yeah Hillary... give me a friggen break.

Well put.
Teddy Phuf @ 113:
I think Nicole did a fine job of pointing out instances in post #109 ;)

you make a good point, i didnt really think about it that way. But Im not totally convinced that Hillary is really believes Obama will make a good president.

Any chance C&L post Brian Schweitzer's speech? That was this convention's Obama keynote address. The audience loved it.
Trekkie @ 103:
Agree and I suppose it's worth talking about only because we'll hear lots of debate tomorrow about how unfair the rules were in the primaries this year. Only hope folks remember that when the rules were written back in 2005-2006, Hillary was the overwhelming favorite and her supporters dominated the DNC who actually drafted the rules.
Some of you folks will never be happy about any god damn thing. Get over it. Move on.
unfuckingbelievable. All you folks still harboring resentment to which ever candidate are going to be the reason the Dems will lose this election. I'm over this bullshit.
see ya.
It's awfully quite over at foxnews.com (http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/08/26/clinton-the-time-is-now-to-unite/) - not a single comment.
Thank you Hillary - GO OBAMA.
Is the Coast Clear?--- @ 112:
I'm also from a split household but there is no way in hell my partner would vote for McCain. She does not like Obama at all, thinks Hillary is terrific, but would vote for the lowliest Democrat imaginable in November if necessary.
For both of us, there's nothing worse than the prospect of another Republican in the White House. Nothing.
Left&Left @ 126:
I wish there was something about him or his campaign that I could find worth voting for, but I have yet to see anything. All I see is arrogance and know-nothingness - an unbearable combination.
Hillary done good. For all you naysayers out there, take a lesson from Michelle and show a little dignity and respect. We'd all be better off for it.
PorridgeGun @ 129:
Working on it now. I'll probably not be able to schedule it until tomorrow though.
The Very Bitter Ceci Hussein @ 128:

Awesome :D
Hopefully you'll be able to put up Bob Casey Jr.'s speech as well. If we had signatures, I'd have the Maverick/Sidekick line added.

An impressive bit of speechifying. And her suit was fabulous. :-)
Teddy Phuf @ 93:
coulda...woulda....shoulda.........hillary is an important member/
element of this party....she gave her speech she said what she wanted and how she wanted.....no matter how you look at it....it was difficult for her and all of us. the war between hillary and barack is one of the reasons this current race is close. now we need hillary/bill to support barack and democratic party.
Hillary had a double backward vault with a twist AND she stuck the landing! Way to go!
I have to say though, ANYONE who would vote for McCain because HRC isn't in the race anymore, it is because they are not a Democrat. Plain and simple.
Teddy Phuf @ 142:
Filthy Harry @ 141:
