Here's Joe Lieberman praising Obama back in '06. This is more evidence that Joe has attached himself to McCain out of fear of being 'left behind' in the Senate and not because he believes McCain is the right choice for President. (h/t Scarce)

"As far as I'm concerned [Barack Obama] is a 'Baruch,' which means a blessing. He is a blessing to the United States Senate, to America, and to our shared hopes for better, safer tomorrows for all our families. The gifts that God has given to Barack Obama are as enormous as his future is unlimited. As his mentor, as his colleague, as his friend, I look forward to helping him reach to the stars and realize not just the dreams he has for himself, but the dreams we all have for him and our blessed country."

Joe proclaims that Obama will make America safer and said he would help Obama realize all the dreams for our country. Will he say this with pride during the RNC convention? Let's see if the media brings this up when they cover his speech.

Oh, that's right, you're just another slimeball opportunist with situational morals that prefers the ease and convenience of pandering to the difficulty of political courage.

You are a double dumb ass schmuck. You deserve to be a weakling Neocon.

Holy Joe goes where Holy Joe thinks he knows his best interest goes.

He may as well have a "Haz some bling for moi?" sign on his chest, and dollar signs tatooed on his palms.

I'm guessing he saw his best chance for the vice presidency lay with the Repubs, so he joined McCain's bandwagon and turned on his former protege, Obama.

wdh's picture

Gustov will save the Repubs from thier own convention. I really wanted to see all these speaches. It would be hillarious.

I couldn't stop laughing at Lindsey Graham, on "This Week" talk about how qualified Sarah Palin is, with her more executive experience than Obama, and that Russia is so near to Alaska. How can these people say these things with a straight face!

General Jack D. Ripper's picture

Joe's speech is precisely why I am voting for Obama. He will make us safer and better tomorrow for all of our families.

We cannot kill all of the terrorists in 80 countries, or however many there are that have them. We certainly cannot do this by ourselves.

Even if those McCain (Neocon) supporters believe we can go out and blow up all who hate us, which of us are going to do that??? Just tonight, "60 Minutes" had a segment about us bombing villages in Afghanistan and killing many innocent civilians. President Karzai of Afghanistan said he has told Bush that he wants the air bombing to stop and that he wants more ground troops in there. He repeated that demand tonight on "60 Minutes." We cannot even supply enough ground troops (for those of you GOPers who want to attack) to go into Afghanistan because they are all tied up in Iraq. Our own generals are asking for more ground troops in Afghanistan.

If we cannot supply enough troops to Afghanistan, how in the hell will we supply them for Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Indonesia, or any other country that has these Islamofascists???

As we isolate ourselves even further, even by seemingly stupid little things like Cindy McCain thinks Palin knows Russia because Russia is close to Alaska, we're going to have even less support throughout this world because of this stupidity.

I've said it a number of times, but I will repeat it. John McCain has Neocon advisors, including Randy Scheunemann and Robert Kagan, members of the former PNAC, the group that as early as 1998 advised then President Clinton to attack and bomb Iraq. Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Scooter Libby, and others came from this group. Norman Podhoretz is also a Neocon, a PNAC member. He "prays" that Bush attacks Iran; he met with bush earlier this year and tried to convince him to bomb Iran.

If John McCain has foreign policy advisors who have so strongly in the past recommended attacking Iraq, what's he going to do to Iran? If you think the price of oil is expensive now, what do you think will happen to the price of a barrel of oil if we attack Iran??? And they say Ms. Palin is great with energy/oil policy!

The problem with Lieberman isn't now, and never was, his bipartisanship, nor was it his being a Conservative Democrat. It was his incessant bashing of the Democratic party from within and his harsh, baseless smearing and undermining of other Democratic politicians. That's not bipartisanship. Just like the corporate imprint in the Democratic party, the Democratic Leadership Council, Lieberman's purpose was to drive the Democratic party to the right, and if failing that, to undermine its electoral prospects from within by acting as a foil against any real Progressive agenda be it on foreign or economic policy. I contend that Lieberman's support is based as much on keeping Obama (as a Democrat who is not a member of the DLC) out of power, as it is his support for continuing the occupation of Iraq.

I seem to remember, during Lieberman's primary with Ned Lamont in '06, Chris Dodd worked really hard on Lieberman's behalf. When Lieberman lost the primary, however, Dodd decided, very reluctantly, to back Lamont as he was the official party nominee and Dodd was a former party chairman. Lieberman not only had a complete meltdown and was furious over Dodd's "disloyalty," he began his tantrum (and accompanying vindictiveness) on primary night even before he had officially lost the primary and, consequently, before Dodd endorsed Lamont.
I also seem to remember Joe worked really hard to get Obama to come and campaign for him. And, sure enough, Obama did. Since Lieberman clearly expects others to be loyal to him, shouldn't he be equally loyal to those who have helped him out?

StCyrlyMe2's picture

Lieberman lucked out in CT because the repubs had a total loser running that nobody would get behind so they swung their support to Joe. Combine that with the Jewish vote from the Democratic side and he was able to pull it off. Repubs are strange creatures. A wealthy Repub real estate agent and I were looking at a house across the pond. He did not like the home owner and he told me that their house had no garage. The garage was plainly visible. When I pointed out this fact to him, he said that they had no driveway. They had a long, winding driveway. It seems to me that Repubs have selective vision and only see what they expect or want to see. Nothing else exists. This is how they can make ridiculous, contrary statements, which make no sense at all, with a straight face. Their neurological wiring is messed up.

You have to give the republicans credit. I have found republicans to be ready willing and able when it comes to personal attacks.
Always ready to spread false information.
Always ready to let someone else make the sacrifice, or force someone else to make the sacrifice.
Always ready to claim credit for anything good that happens.
Always ready to blame someone else for anything they do wrong.
Always in favor of small government unless they can find a way to profit from it personally.
Always ready to lie or accept the lie if they think they can profit from it.
lieberman is the perfect republican!

Yep, Joe was Obama's mentor in Obama's first two years in the Senate: 2005 and 2006, and Obama was very appreciative of it.

But then Obama backstabbed Lieberman in the 2006 election by coming out for Lieberman's opponent, one Ned Lamont. Lamont had even less (if that's possible) experience and fewer qualifications for the Senate than Obama hmself.

And now people are upset by Lieberman's backing McCain?

Oh yes... Joe is sooo darn honorable that when the people of his state spoke their will by VOTING to not keep him on the ballot, he said "Screw the people, I want to stay in office because I WANT TO BE SENATOR".

So he played a nasty trick and went independent... you know how he won? He made a deal with the devil that he would show his favor to the repubs if the repubs would go out and tell their voters to vote for Joe and not the Republican nominee.

So... all the repubs voted for Joe, the Indies who thought it was "cool" to put a "Indie" label on a prominent figure, and small sect of hard line Joe dems.

The repubs did this because there was ZERO chance of their candidate winning.

So Joe is not honorable, Joe showed he is a power clinger, who will do anything to cling to power, even after the people he charged with deciding if he should stay or go, decided he should go. Joe did not have the dignity to accept defeat.

Sure, he did win, and I'm in no way saying this invalidates him as the winner. It just shows he is the guy who will cling to power any way he can, and weasel around when it is politically convenient.

Mike M's picture

Joe Lieberman has seen the light. I congratulate Lieberman for telling the truth about how the Democrats failed us, and McCain is the best choice for President.
