There are few stories about Donald Trump that I as a liberal blogger would find difficulty believing. But this is one.

If Buzzfeed had not provided a reasonably verifiable audio of this interview with yeah, Howard Stern, I still would not have believed it.

But here is the transcript from them, and I've annotated it with gifs because it's the only way I can think of to make it palatable.

Donald Trump suggested to the hosts of the Howard Stern show on radio in 2005 that he would like to host a version of his popular "Apprentice" show with Black and White teams competing against each other.

He said in terms of light-skinned blacks versus dark-skinned blacks...

he wanted an "assortment."

But the White Apprentices would all be blond.

“On The Apprentice there was a concept, okay, thrown out by some person, nine blacks against nine whites,” said Trump. “And it would be nine blacks against nine whites, all highly educated, very smart, strong, beautiful."

...“It would be the highest-rated show on television,” interjected Trump.

“Wouldn’t that set off a racial war?” asks Stern.

“Actually, I don’t think it would,” responded Trump. “I think it would be handled very beautifully by me. Because, as you know, I’m very diplomatic… "

Here's the audio if you still don't believe it.
