When Furher-elect Donald Trump named Ben Carson to be the head of HUD, Nancy Pelosi and other sentient beings questioned why Trump would name such an unqualified person for that spot.
Trump apologists, led by Mike "The Huckster" Huckabee, unable to defend the choice either, ripped into Pelosi instead, asking if she was a racist or just dumb. The Huckster doubled down by claiming that Carson grew up in government subsidized housing, thus making him qualified:
Huckabee, who became a Trump surrogate after he dropped out of the 2016 Republican primary, tweeted on Monday, "Ben Carson is first HUD Sec to have actually lived in gov't housing. Fancy Nancy Pelosi says he's not qualified; is she racist or just dumb?"
Yeah. That's like saying that because a person who rode a bus once was eligible to run the Department of Transportation.
But, as it always happens with right wing mythology, this turned out to be laughably easy to disprove. Carson never lived in government housing:
The New York Times issued a correction Monday after saying that Carson aide Armstrong Williams originally told the paper that Carson was raised in public housing.
"Using information from a close friend of Ben Carson, the nominee for housing secretary, an earlier version of this article misstated that Mr. Carson spent part of his childhood in public housing," the Times wrote. "The friend, Armstrong Williams, said Monday that Mr. Carson had never lived in government housing."
Goodness! The next thing you know, we'll learn that Trump wasn't really born to a virgin and had his birth heralded by angels.
