The WSJ is the voice of the DC-New York GOP establishment, and that voice was crackling with anger and tears on Tuesday.

Let's just say right now what voters will be saying in November, once Barack Obama has been re-elected: Republicans deserve to lose.

Well, yes. They deserve to lose because they've learned nothing from spectacular failures of the Bush/Cheney years and are doubling down on every right-wing fetish: Even lower taxes! Even more wealth inequality! Even more war! Even fewer regulations! Let's deport 12 million people! Let's bring back child labor!

But I digress.

Above all, it doesn't matter that Americans are generally eager to send Mr. Obama packing. All they need is to be reasonably sure that the alternative won't be another fiasco. But they can't be reasonably sure, so it's going to be four more years of the disappointment you already know.

But won't Newt beat Obama in the debates?

A primary ballot for Mr. Gingrich is a vote for an entertaining election, not a Republican in the White House.

Ouch. But...but...don't we need a businessman to create jobs?

On the evidence of his campaign, Mr. Romney is a lousy CEO.

Oh, snap! And the big finish!

...the U.S. will surely survive four more years. Who knows? By then maybe Republicans will have figured out that if they don't want to lose, they shouldn't run with losers.

Just brutal.

Cheer up, WSJers! There's got to be a Bush lying around somewhere for 2016. In the meantime, please note that Newt and Willard are advocating exactly the same policies you've cheered on for decades.

Suck it up.

I only hope that which ever one of these clowns gets the nomination, they take the entire Teabircher movement down with them.

Then, after winning back the House and gaining in the Senate, the democrats make Elizabeth Warren the Majority Leader, and really kick some GOP ass.

If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.

pissed off patricia's picture

I second that emotion regarding Elizabeth Warren. Did you see her on Jon Stewart's show last night? I think I have a woman crush on her. She sure does tell it exactly like it is and in a way anyone can understand. She has intellectual passion.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

...By then maybe democrats will have figured out that if they don't want to lose, they shouldn't run with losers. Get the money, republican'ts and blue dogs out and OUT NOW!

"At Bain Capital, Mr. Romney acquired and merged companies, loaded them with debt, fired employees, slashed vendors, disappointed customers and sometimes collected enormous fees just for mismanaging enterprises into certain bankruptcy."

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405297...

"This is what private-equity investors do. They often have 10 losers for every big winner. Mr. Romney didn't wake up at Bain Capital each morning and say, "Hmm. How could I create a new job today?" It's not the role of venture capitalists to create jobs, as Mr. Romney now pretends. It is to create as few jobs as possible so they can bag envious profits."
"... I am OK with the notion that free-market capitalism produces winners and losers. What I don't like is that it also produces liars, cheaters, swindlers, self-dealing narcissists, overleveraged idiots and reckless egomaniacs out to abuse their economic power and take unfair advantage of hardworking people"
"..why does one have to be a Democrat or a liberal to complain about the way business gets done?
I don't complain about fraud, abuse and folly because I am anti-business or anticapitalist. Anyone who has ever said so is either naive or deflecting."
" What free-market capitalism hasn't yet figured out is what to do with all its losers.
At this point in the economic cycle, they are piling up like used tires: debt-sacked college kids who can't get jobs, foreclosed homeowners, failed small-business owners, pink-slipped employees, millions suddenly ejected from the middle class and now a couple Republican candidates who won't be our next president."
.....
not a lot of love there...

Wall Street is just a parasite on the actual labor and investments of average Americans.

...it will be all christie, all the time in '16. I don't expect the freak show we have with the right once they get christie up there. That is to say, the '12 christie; we can't be sure how bad he'll shoot himself in the foot in NJ before the next election. His kids will be older. He'll have four years as a governor. He is liked by many on the dark side.

If Romney gets the nomination, I think it would be a safe bet that Christie will be on the ticket with him.

I don't believe romney's gonna' be the one but if he is, it could be christie as VP.

If Superpacs still abound there will be plenty of Republicans itching to take a shot and willing to slang each other to death to get there. Time may remove the stigma of the Bush name for Jeb, Mitch is being groomed. Rubio may have some appeal for ethnic considerations. And, as you say, Christie. I doubt he'd attach his name to this year's ticket. The stench of a serious defeat won't help him later. The fact is though, that the Republican base is so divided they'll all have the same problem this crop does and that is appealing to and securing the votes of nutbars and moderates. I wish them luck with that enterprise.

When you go to a fun party and all you bring are cans of lima beans, don't expect to be the most popular guest. The republican party brought nothing this year but cans of lima beans, and all the cans were dented.

The smart Republicans are sitting this election out and waiting until 2016, because they know that Obama has a good chance at being elected again and they also don't want to have to deal with all the problems we have. But they left the door wide open and every goof ball in their party hurried in to toss all their crazy hats into the ring. I guess Republicans are just going to have to learn to love the one they're with.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

Paul brought Lima bean McNuggets
Santorum brought Lima bean seeds
Mittens would have brought a case of Lima Bean Pate but Christie ate it all in the limo on the way.

Not only were all the goddamned cans dented, there were no labels on any of them. Then they spread rumours that the cans were possibly an assortment of Confit de Canard, Italian and/or French truffles and other assorted high-end comestibles.

But it turned out to be lima beans, butter beans whatever, Phaseolus lunatus, they were all pasty and washed out. Some held out for black-eyed peas, but if there were any truly serious presence of those, they were gone in the early rounds.

Steve Schmidt. Hell they didn't even wait for the Florida polls to open, much less count the vote.

For some time now I have been of the impression the establishment (1%) are quite happy with president Obama and want him to remain for four more years. These one-a-day Republican debates are a wonderful distraction from news that matters.

Whether these Republican candidates want the WH is of little import. Those with power and money (the 1%, the banks, the MIC) are very happy with Obama so this crop of (R) bozos can suck eggs: not gonna happen this cycle. The decision has been made by those unofficially in charge.

Bluestocking's picture

Let's remember one thing here, people...not only is the Wall Street Journal the voice of the DC-NY GOP Establishment, it's owned by Rupert Murdoch. Overlooking the fact for the moment that there isn't much difference between the Democrats and Republicans anymore -- since both parties, by and large, are proving through their actions that they've abandoned their responsibilities to the American people -- it's nevertheless a pretty big deal for a Murdoch-owned paper to publicly come out swinging against the Republican Party like this. I'd say this is easily an equivalent to the New York Post (another Murdoch-owned paper) endorsing the Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo over his Republican rival Carl Paladino in the 2010 election. (At the time, the New York Post referred to Paladino as an "undisciplined, unfocused and untrustworthy" man suffering from "well-documented contempt for the truth" and "profound ethical myopia" -- OUCH!)

For that matter, from what I could see from a couple of pages of comments on the article, a significant number of the readers generally agreed with the author (albeit reluctantly in some cases) -- or at least found that they couldn't disagree with him. Of course, it remains to be seen whether the author receives any blowback from within the Murdoch empire -- either from within the Wall Street Journal itself or from FOX News -- but it seems fairly clear that the author is not some fly-by-night pundit, since his byline indicates he's a deputy editor of the editorial page for both the Asian and European editions of the paper as well as responsible for the foreign affairs columnists. It sounds like he's something of a high muckamuck over there...

Never trust anyone who insists that patriotism requires you to blindfold yourself with the flag.

I disagree with your comment - there are vast difference between the parties and they are idealogical
if you cant look back and see the damage Bush and his minons did to this country then perhaps you should look closer- america is not perfect but we need the democracy it was created to be not and plutocracy or a theorocacy in its place - go obama

running with losers, I seriously take issue with some of the other snide comments and Obama take downs.
