"Modern day Spock"? Better than a modern day Alfred E. Neuman like the last numbnuts.

Is Obama the modern-day Mr. Spock?

Or is this just another sorry ass attempt my the MSM to paint Obama as an Alien?

Must be. President Obama is quite down to earth. President Obama is pragmatic if not always logical. President Obama is not flustered by blather, but he's not prone to hold back his emotions. You must be right.

Maybe they're comparing him to the new spock...

That's just not logical.

But Leornard Nimoy would make a better president.

On next weeks In Search of.. we'll find out what happened to Barack Obama.

He was assimilated.

…does that make Bush a Ferengi? Enquiring minds just gotta know.

The Republican Rules of Acquisition http://www.sjtrek.com/trek/rules/

bit of honor.
I think they're more like those dudes with the goofy hair on Voyager.

)O(

They're cuter

And less acquisitive.

We've had 8 years with an idiot who's brain is fried on drugs as everyone made excuses for him. Yes George W. Bush was really high most of the time he was US President. If anyoe remembers it was 2001 that Bush gave Cheney the same power as the President. President Obama is smart but we've had smart Presidents before it's just that for the pass 8 years we're been watching and listening to an stupid idiot so Obama is a big change.

5-2

The Bulin Wall is crumbling.

:P

It's a cool analogy I can live with thus far; but wasn't there an episode Spock's Brain where he showed his dark side. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but I do have reservations on some of the policies he has kept in place and some he should be reversing.
That's what seperates us from the Repukes, we will not follow blindly.

I thought that was the Mirror Mirror episode.

Fascinating

Powerful speech.

And just amazing to see that it was broadcast on Fox!

(YouTube) President Obama Notre Dame Commencement Speech pt.1

i was surprised also. i did have a cynical thought that fixxed news was hoping for some big protesting. it did NOT happen. the local/on campus protesting was next to nothing.

The ex sent me this interesting "Rest of the Story" speech by Leonard Nimoy on where he picked up the sign language "split finger" thingy. Interestingly enough it's all about Orthodox Jewishness.

Not that I would be one to suggest that Zionism could possibly be Spock's influence, but...well...you be the judge. Here's the clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1d83XOORP0

P.S. I haven't seen the film yet, but my youngest son saw it twice and said, "Mom. You HAVE to see this movie. I give it a solid "10"!

what you call Logic. In this case the logic of corporatism.

But he gives good deadpan speeches.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/18/world/asia/...
there are more "terrorists" per square mile in pakistan than anywhere. confidential meetings are being reported by the nytimes that mullen/gates say pakistan is producing more fissal material for more nukes.
the pakistan government and taliban/other extremists groups are fighting about 100 miles from reactor.
pakistan is an obvious major threat/issue that the BUSH administration turned their backs on.

seems to think that this is pure hype to get the p-gov't moving in on the taliban.

pak has a 500k man army. there are less than 10k taliban in pak.

sure i wish bush followed through in afghanistan, but this war hawk crap needs to end.

The Pakistani ISI is basically the international version of the CIA. There are already reports that the US government is backing a candidate in the upcoming elections. What that means, is the U.S. once again is involving itself in other countries governing. Bottom line is Obama explicitly said he would end the wars but now he escalating it. Either the military industrial complex is lying to him or he does not have the fortitude to deliver what he said he would. Is the Council of Foreign relations still calling the shots? Is the escalation in Afghanistan giving former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski a second chance?

there is no way obama is similar to spock--doesn't believe in the prime directive?

Senza gravitas!

Simply, no. Obama is himself. He doesn't need to be anyone else, real or fictional.

.......thought I should at least add my moniker to the fray.........:)

LOL

I chuckled as soon as I saw you'd commented in the thread! :D

ASPCA's action alerts about animal protection legislation is here:
http://www.aspca.org/fight-animal-cruelty/lob...

There is a ton of animal abuse in this town, and our animal protection/shelter system is lousy. All of my pets are rescues from off of the street, and now that I've got Jeremy, I can't add any more rescues, and have to try not to let my heart break when I know there's an abandoned/abused/starving animal in the neighborhood...

So, I have signed up for the Advocacy Brigade to write letters and make phone calls for animal protection laws, and I am thanking God that Jeremy decided to hide in the right yard and that he belongs to us now, because he wouldn't have stood a chance this summer with the extreme heat, his disability, and his older age...

here's a link to one of the Etsy Teams, the PetsJubilee Team, that sells sampler boxes of handmade goodies and treats for pets (as well as other nice animal goodies and promos for pet related shops).

I bought a box for my furbrood, and Jeremy and Andy loved all of the treats. Wasn't sure initially 'cause all of the dog treats were vegetarian and/or vegan, but the boys loved em.

The girls were very picky about the cat treats, but they liked the catnip playthings.

There were also collars, coupons and business cards, as well as some nice photo prints of animals.

Great way to try the diff. pet products on Etsy that are handmade by small businesses (often one person).

Putin has no soul when it comes to gay rights. Providence's mayor thinks there's no problem with taxing college students. Speaking of gay rights, Castro's niece finally addresses the issue. Foreclosures went up by 32% last month. The last photo-journalist to tell it like it is about war died. An Ohio Christian school bans going to proms. Chicago bans baby bottles with BPA. North Korea treats one of our journalists to a trial fit for Kafka.
GM decides to compete with Asian models by making its cars in China. A poll gets rigged in favor of pro-life views. NH's governnor favors gay marriage.

"Putin has no soul..."

The rest of your post is redundant. Those four words suffice :)

Or more specifically, I thought, "since when does Putin have a soul in any area?"

It was only a matter of time 'til one of the Big 2 (Sorry Chrysler...) stepped up, really. This will become HUGE, once the initial kinks in quality control get worked out (probably payola to various govt agencies rather than actual compliance with US regs--so much cheaper...)

And you thought FIAT imported pieces of shit...

New Spock? Or Spock Classic?

Cuz Obama would TOTALLY tap Nera Uhura.

On a previous thread about who first exposed the fact that they tortured to justify their invasion of Iraq, it was me. It's pretty sad that the mainstream media has to plagerize a mediocre blogger,

The MSM has no sense of integrity if they are plagerizing you, yet tend to bash bloggers whenever they get a chance!

Remember when you were a kid and you got one of those coloring books that had the numbered dots? All I did was connect the dots.

At least you got this important and infuriating fact out there. If everything was left up to the MSM, they would still be sitting around with their thumbs up their bums...

Ouch. But it was a tight game into the third. Yeah, the Champs are great; that's why they're the Champs.

Still, I love this young Hawks team. Even late in the third, down two goals on Detroit ice, Chicago kept it coming.

And we'll be back for more Tuesday!

Man! I love playoff hockey!!!

Just saw the movie Blood Diamond tonight. Very thought provoking. Would love to know what Spock's take on this human behavior would be and Obama's, too. It is amazing what people will do to other people. It's not really about diamonds. It's about humanity. Where is it? Where is the humanity behind killing for a stone and hoarding to increase its value? Where is the humanity behind slaughtering humans to harvest Diamonds to defeat inhumane governments to create your own? People scare me. I'd take Spock anytime.

"It is amazing what people will do to other people"

It's especially amazing what people will apparently do to Leonardo DiCaprio.

The horrible ugliness of what people do to other people in the name of having diamonds far outweighs the incredible beauty of the diamonds themselves.

(No wonder some people believe the Hope Diamond is cursed)

Which means... we the people are Captain Kirk.

"Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship because while you're there, you can make a difference."
- James T. Kirk, 2371

Without freedom of choice there is no creativity. The body dies.
-- Kirk in 'The Return Of The Archons'

"... if change is inevitable, beneficial ... doesn't logic demand that you be a part of it?"
-- Kirk to Mirror Spock, Mirror, Mirror

How can Obama be a modern day Spock when Spock will not be born for another 150 years or so?

!

Which begs the question- How do you know that he (Spock) will be born 150 years from now if it is not based on the same premise (or personification) of “Spock” the Star Trek character that this post uses to draw its parallels to Obama? :>)

the second coming of obama?

did i mention that the press has officially "jumped the shark"?

GNA

Peace.

Rush is The Borg Oxyqueen. Assimilating the dittoheads.

The dittoheads are the citizens of Eminiar VII in A Taste of Armageddon. "Hey, you're a casualty, go report to the disintegration booth." "Okay!"

would approve of the first class mission of the Space Shuttle crew members fixing the Hubble telescope.

Today is the last of 5 spacewalks to finish the rehab. Hopefully we will have up to 10 more years of new science from the Hubble.

Great job, guys and gal!

what i can tell you is that new Star Trek movie is friggin awesome!

DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM AT ITS FINEST: "Thriving Norway Provides an Economics Lesson" to Debt-Ridden America - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30738235/
“The U.S. and the U.K. have no sense of guilt,” said Anders Aslund, an expert on Scandinavia at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington. “But in Norway, there is instead a sense of virtue. If you are given a lot, you have a responsibility.”
Eirik Wekre, an economist who writes thrillers in his spare time, describes Norwegians’ feelings about debt this way: “We cannot spend this money now; it would be stealing from future generations.”
Mr. Wekre, who paid for his house and car with cash, attributes this broad consensus to as the country’s iconoclasm. “The strongest man is he who stands alone in the world,” he said, quoting Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen.

WTF: Obama's EPA clears 42 of 48 new mountaintop removal mining permits - http://wvgazette.com/News/200905150759?page=1...
The Obama administration has cleared more than three-dozen new mountaintop removal permits for issuance by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, drawing quick criticism from environmental groups who had hoped the new president would halt the controversial practice. Carl Pope, director of the Sierra Club environmental group, said Friday's announcement by Rahall raises questions about whether Jackson and EPA are up to the task.
"Because it appears that EPA is unwilling to intervene, it is now imperative that the White House Council on Environmental Quality take immediate action to stop the bulldozers," Pope said in a prepared statement. "The Obama administration should take swift action to fix the flawed 'fill rule' that enables this type of devastating mining and should act decisively to save the mountains, rivers and communities of Appalachia."

Daily Kos: Rumsfeld kept rescue choppers from Katrina - http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/5/17/73241...
Two days after Hurricane Katrina made landfall in New Orleans—and the same day that Bush viewed the damage on a flyover from his Crawford, Texas, retreat back to Washington—a White House advance team toured the devastation in an Air Force helicopter.
Noticing that their chopper was outfitted with a search-and-rescue lift, one of the advance men said to the pilot, "We’re not taking you away from grabbing people off of rooftops, are we?" "No, sir," said the pilot. He explained that he was from Florida’s Hurlburt Field Air Force base—roughly 200 miles from New Orleans—which contained an entire fleet of search-and-rescue helicopters.
"I’m just here because you’re here," the pilot added. "My whole unit’s sitting back at Hurlburt, wondering why we’re not being used." Choppers with rescue air lift equipment were standing hours away, in the hundreds, and had not been deployed!

FBI infiltrated Iowa anti-war group before GOP convention - http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/2009...
David Goodner, 28, a University of Iowa senior who participated in the demonstrations in St. Paul, condemned the undercover surveillance. "There is no justification for spying on nonviolent pacifist groups," Goodner said. "Our road blockade at the RNC and our peaceful preparations beforehand are protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
We have the right to speak out against the policies of our government. The criminalization of dissent and militarization of society are the actions of a police state, and they take valuable resources away from providing for unmet social needs. The FBI's motives and methods are extremely unethical and go against basic American values."

Robert Parry: Knowing 'What's Good for the Country' - http://www.consortiumnews.com/2009/051709.html
Parry provides us with a chilling historical lesson about the need to revere the truth and openness to maintain our democracy and long-term human goals for the world. He traces the legacy of the "good for the country" meme from Viet Nam through Iran Contra, Bush v. Gore, warrantless wiretapping to the Iraq War. "The moments when the truth legitimately should be hidden should be few and specific...
When those exceptions start expanding – when politicians and journalists see the career upside of concealing facts and appearing 'patriotic' – the impact, especially in the long-term, can be extremely detrimental to a democratic Republic and very dangerous for its soldiers. Doing what’s deemed 'good for the country' often can turn out to be very bad for the country."

Some on left souring on Obama - http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0509/226...
When President Barack Obama speaks to the Notre Dame commencement Sunday afternoon, television cameras will search the sea of graduates, looking for turned backs and defaced mortar boards that abortion opponents will likely use to register their disagreement with the president. But the attention to protests from conservatives who don’t support Obama – and almost certainly never would – could obscure the far more significant political threat he now faces.
