the joke of health care reform, I guess. :S

I'm not bummed as much as pizzed. I am fucking mad as hell.

Some stuff you can't make up!

sort of defeatist about the whole thing. Tweeting back to Sen. Boxer that I wasn't donating to her campaign because the person I'm caregiving for is uninsured and can't even buy Medicare felt great, but only temporarily... It just isn't enough.

I gave up on meaningful health care legislation several weeks ago and have been pretty much hoping and expecting this round of negotiations to go into the crapper where it belongs.

So I feel more relieved than dispirited, cuz i expect this bill will die as it should.

won't let this bill die. and the corporate media has spent the day looking for dems to support this bill. the DLC / DSCC / DCCC think this will go over. it would be a big surprise to see progressives agreeing with teabaggers (for different reasons, of course) about how fucked up democrats are.

Just recently polls have begun to ask "Why do you oppose the bill?" as well as "Do you oppose it?" and the opposition from the left has just been growing and growing.

The illusion of progress in health care policy, whatever form it takes, will be embraced by our society as the greatest accomplishment ever.
Just as the threat of Sadam’s WMDs, the righteousness of destroying Iraq, waging modern war on a 13th century society, the negligible consequences of printing trillions on demand, the benevolence of the major financial institutions, the common knowledge that concrete and steel buildings can dissolve in 10 seconds, that lying about a blow job is an impeachable offence, that torture is not only justifiable but necessary, that the Supreme court can legitimize voter fraud and mob rule or that we are no longer citizens but consumers.

over the internet and in complete agreement. I'm going to add one thing using the words the president used in the controversy between the Harvard professor and the cop that arrested him, "The president is acting stupidly." There is no reason for him to give in to the poor excuses for Senators that are threatening to vote against the bill with a public option. No public option, no mandates. He should be using his powers to influence them to push the public option through. Senator Ben Nelson, if the abortion issue was that important during Bush's administration, they would have had it on the table at some time. If you have that much of a problem, introduce a bill separately and see how much support you get. Lieberman, I don't see why the citizens of Connetticut have let you get as old and wrinkeled as you are, you POS.

I knew everything I needed to know when after the primaries, the FISA vote came, the timing and delay until AFTER the primaries is suspect in itself.

Obama had stated categorically he was going to fight. For me (some people might call me a leftist) he was far from an ideal candidate but fighting illegal surveillance done with impunity by the government was a central issue.

He was in a position to make a difference, if he was a GENUINE opposition candidate.

The fight came, Obama turned 180° and ran with the fascists.

That told me everything I would ever need to know about Obama.

He won't fight, if he says he will fight you cannot believe him.

I was immediately off his bus, though I didn't ask for my contribution money back and still get his squirrelly emails.

You can fool me once but I'll be damned if you can fool me twice.

I guess the fact that, unlike the robber-baron bankster corporations who defrauded us last year, the health insurance companies had to work a lot harder, for a lot longer, and spend billions and billions in Congressional bribes and lobbying to get their pay off.

And, I've no doubt that while we've all been distracted by the health insurance hoopla, the banksters have been doing more evil which may soon be revealed.

We'll still have to wait and see what the final House/Senate version of the bill looks like - but, if the Dems were smart (I know, I know..?) they'd make the Repukes have to vote down the final bill, instead of conceding defeat and folding.

So I was surfing the interwebs earlier, looking to see if there were any "Recruit Dean for 2012" sites out there (there are none, by the way), and somehow I ended up in the depths of Wingnuttia. There were all these oblivious jack-offs telling each other about what's constitutional and what isn't, which from what I could gather was a document I doubt most of them could read let alone discuss. I got to thinking where were all these constitution "experts" when the Supreme Court appointed 43, where were these experts when said President did away with Habeas corpus, where were they when warrentless wiretaps and search and seizures became the norm. How about extraordinary rendition? Not an f-ing peep. Yet, now they're up in arms about govt run health care (which we already have Medicare & Medicaid), Obama not being a citizen(Hawaii is kind of exotic), the "czars"(who were first appointed by Nixon I believe, correct me if I'm wrong). Then I get to thinking "Is this all really because he's a black guy?". Because let's be honest, at this point it sure feels like we are living in Bush's third term, So nothing has changed. We don't get health care. No help on the mortgage front. The endless wars continue. Wall Street's still riding roughshod over the rest of us. So what, was 1954 Mississippi always lying in wait just under the surface of white America? HE'S FUCKING BLACK GET OVER IT YOU JACK-OFFS!!!

"If we don't pass it, here's the guarantee," Obama said. "Your premiums will go up, your employers are going to load up more costs on you ... Potentially they're going to drop your coverage, because they just can't afford an increase of 25 percent, 30 percent in terms of the costs of providing health care to employees each and every year."

He added that the costs of Medicare and Medicaid are on an "unsustainable" trajectory and no is action taken to bring them down, "the federal government will go bankrupt."

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/theov...

I say then so fucking be it. It is not like the people are being supported adequately anyway. Employers are going to drop coverage. Sounds good to me because providing health care coverage should be removed off the backs of businesses so they can better compete globally. Obama can take his concessionary presidency and shove it.

China refuses to do anything about global warming, and Barry might let us down on it, too. This article isn't racially-charged. Goodbye Seychelles islands. The Brits drop the checkbook in ten years. Congress extends the Patriot Act, and many naively believe it'll help to reform the legislation. The Copenhagen conference is ironically full of its ow smoke. McCain wants Obama to pardon Jack Johnson. At least the House extended jobs and benefits programs...Will we finally invest in super trains? The census needs work. No One Is Going To Save You Fools
by thereisnospoon
Wed Dec 16, 2009 at 04:28:17 PM PST

Before I explain the generic insult, let me first make something perfectly clear: I am your enemy. That you don't know this is understandable: after all, people like me prefer it that way. But until you understand just what you're up against and why, you're going to continue to lose, and look like fools in the process.

Barack Obama has indeed sold you out. He and many of his Democratic colleagues have sold you out on healthcare, and they've sold you out on financial reform. You were looking for a savior, and you've been had--not an altogether atypical result for those looking for a strong leader to "save" them.

He hasn't done this because he's a bad guy. In fact, he's a great guy. I think he's doing pretty much the best job he can. He's sold you out because he's not afraid of you. And really, if I may be so bold, he shouldn't be afraid of you. You don't know who really runs the show, and you're far too fickle and manipulable to count on.

Campaign finance reform.
But I doubt, that would even fix it.

In the mid to late 60's, all holds were barred.

Electoral reform. Bottom up.

Consensual representation on municipal boards and city councils.

Consensual representation in state legislatures.

Consensual representation in the House.

Repeal the 17th Amendment; add amendment that all legislation begins in the House. Convene the Senate only for nomination confirmations, treaties, and at the end of the Congressional session to review all bills passed by the House.

To be honest. This can't be fixed anymore.
Might as well just try to live your life the best you can. Have as much fun as you can before the lights go out.

After reading Karen's post I was going to suggest campaign finance reform.

But after reading yours mud, I want to go with my prior plan which is to find a chunk of land in the middle of no where (like the Trinities) and just give up.

Karen's picture
:)

I think I live my life quite well, all things considered. ;)

I'm not totally convinced it can't be fixed. I just think it will take decades, not an election or two, after which, as the article points out, our demographic tends to become disillusioned and gives up.

Nevertheless, I understand your cynically pragmatic sentiment. For me, the cynical pragmatism manifests thusly: Have as much fun while you can, remain politically active in the process and try to change the system no matter how unlikely your success . . . and have a life-line escape plan ready in case you need to leave the country as the USA fails.

Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?

mudshark's picture

We don't get enough of it. And the mega companies have so much of it they can burn it.
And when it comes to making even more money. The mega companies buy whom ever they need to maintain the status quo. Which is to keep making money hand over fist.
It can't be stopped anymore. It's grown to such a huge monster, that nothing can control it.

They buy whom ever they think the country will fall behind at that time. They knew people were well burned out on Bush and the GOP. They knew people were on the fence about HRC. They knew to finance this black man because the people were ready for a change. Plus they'd vote for this man so they could tell themselves that they aren't racist.

Those issues mentioned in CoIntel's link, Is all true.
It's all fact. That's how this country works now.
So, might as well just have some fun. Cause there ain't a damn thing you can do about it.

I'm sorry Karen for being so negative. I hope I didn't sour your mood at the start of the day.
I still hang on to a little hope. That's what gets me out of bed every day. But, I come to the realization that being happy is the most important thing. And being so wrapped up in the daily lies, obfuscations, distortions and all around bullshit of politics ain't all that healthy for anyone. Certainly not good for mental health. So, I say, Enjoy Yourself. We're not here all that long.

When are we voters going to wake up and realize that the politicians are not interested in us. Every election they give us a song and dance about what they will do for us, then they turn their backs on what they promised. They are only interested in what they can do for the corporations. And what the corporations can do for them. The corporations are getting what they want, they always wanted this to be a 3rd world work force and our government have given it to them.
Next election maybe we need to write in none of the above. The candidates that just ran will not be able to run again. They will have to run someone else. Then give them 3 months to run a new election.
We need to figure out how to get the power back into our hands and out of the corporate hands.
Campaign finance reform is a joke, they always leave a loop hole big enough to drive a mack truck threw, so they can get big money from the corporations. They have tried finance reform before and all it has gotten us is more money from the corporations. The only way finance reform will work is if we the people write it.

mudshark's picture

But as far as I know , this "HCR" is not going to cover pre existing conditions. And IF they do, it will cost 50% more that what you'd be paying now. Lets say your ins premium for the Year is 10K. It would be 15k with a pre existing condition.
Nope, This bill doesn't force the ins co's to compete to lower the prices. You get screwed if you have a pre existing condition.
Nope. Kill this bill. Nuthin is better in this case.
Better yet, cancel your ins policies. Get a fake ID, and walk into the ER.

Now that's a healt care plan that might actually work for the people. Mere insurance reform (i.e. rewriting some of the rules by which insurance companies now operate instead of forcing them compete with the government or installing single-payer) can never work.
