The Justice Department is investigating whether hundreds of FBI agents cheated on a test of new rules allowing the bureau to conduct surveillance and open cases without evidence that a crime has been committed. AP reporter Matt Apuzzo explains. (July 28)
I just remembered a few minutes ago I'd saved this yesterday.
It's particularly interesting in light of this thread here at C&L:
self-discipline and focus? you're kidding, right? think of the hours upon hours it takes to master skills like this... hours that could be spent learning skills of some contributory value in society
my daughter's self-discipline and focus is on skills that will improve her lot in life and teach her about the needs and concerns she will have in life, not... but yeah, those kids got a lot to be proud of? wha? absurd
like i say, i don't get it. but then, I wouldn't
your name's Lebowski, Lebowski... and your wife is Bunny
It's call "Performing Arts"! It's people like you that help remove these programs from our schools... idiot!
Their homeworld was a place called Earth, located in an uninteresting part of the galaxy. They had an expression: pride goeth before a fall. Their pride was their undoing. I know. I was there....They did not listen, of course. Arrogant men never do.
So is keeping one's body in top nick. These guys should give it up and get a job at Micky D's. You know, something contributory.
It's so funny, I was thinking while watching those kids last night that I'd give just about anything to have that kind of dedication to craft and control over my body. And that it would be a thrill to be driving down MacArthur on a rainy day and see these 4 young men showin what they got.
General Sir Richard Dannatt, former head of the army, painted a disturbing picture at the top of Britain's military of an overstretched army near to breaking point in "a perfect storm".
I think the Bush administration believed that, and sold Blair on it. Otherwise, there was no reason to include Iran in the axis of evil. Shiite Iran was cooperating with us in the Afghanistan war against the Sunni Taliban. They were conditioning the American public for war against Iran on the assumption that Iraq would be finished in a short time.
I saw Richard Pearl on TV a day or two before Iraq II started (Mar 2003), advocating for a simultaneous invasion of Syria. He figured we could do a 2 for 1. I think the Abu Ghraib fiasco occurred to get the war back on schedule once the 6 month time line was passing, and our effort started bogging down.
I think the neo-cons believed that they could invade Iraq, Syria and Iran, and have the whole thing wrapped up by the end of 2004.
And this situation is why Republicans, the primary champions of the strategy, have no credibility with me as far as national security is concerned. After all, aren't they the loudest voices for advocating that Americans spend more then the rest of the world combined on defense? If it costs all this money, then we need to take a page out of the Republicans free trade manual and import some tanks from China.
"the process of transformation.. is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event - like a new Pearl Harbor." -- PNAC document from September of 2000
"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people." ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
I don't recall anything in the PNAC documents that indicated how easy the war would be. To me, the thing that is most telling is the inclusion of Iran in the "axis of evil" at a point in time when Iran was being helpful in Afghanistan.
There was no reason to draw that line in the sand, at that moment, unless one was operating under the assumption that Iraq would be a cakewalk. And, it's my firm opinion that the armchair neocon warriors thought Iraq would be that cakewalk. Otherwise, it made absolutely no sense to alienate Iran at that point in time by including them in the axis. And I think that point of view was what they convinced Blair on.
I've commented in other posts how the GOP is loony. I don't think the Bush administration was loony. But, in the case of Iraq and the Middle East, I *do* think that they were delusional. I very much believe that when Rummy said it may take 6 days, or 6 weeks, that he truly believed in what he said. He was mistaken, but I don't think he was intentionally lying. (You don't lie, when the lie is exposed in 6 weeks).
is the assumption that anything we did in the mideast was actually about combatting terrorism and "keeping America safe" The evidence shows just the opposite.
1) It probably wasn't even necessary to invade Afghanistan. The Taliban government was willing to turn over Al Queda, all they wanted was a little proof, very reasonable.
2) Once we invaded Afghanistan we literally let OBL and his gang of thugs go. Whether we let them go out of incompetence or for some more conpiratorial reason is something I'm not sure of myself. If it was incompetence it was criminal incompetence but criminal incompetence and Bush administration sort of go together.
3) There was no reason to invade Iraq at all. They had nothing to do with Al Queda. Hell, bin-Laden HATED Sadaam Hussein as much as he hated America.
The whole thing was about asserting American dominance in the mid-east and about making huge profits for defense and oil companies. Not looney IMO. I think most of the people in the Bush administration understood this. I think Bush himself though was just a fool who actually believed things about WMD, bringing democracy, etc.
2) Once we invaded Afghanistan we literally let OBL and his gang of thugs go.
BBC reporter reporting live from outside Kandahar airport watched as truckload after truckload of Taliban and their ISI supporters streamed into the airport.
The "coalition forces" surrounded the airport and the reporter stated, "They've got them bottled up in the airport. I expect shelling to begin in moments."
Then moments later he reported, incredulous, as airplane after airplane took off and headed east toward Pakistan.
Most definitely they were allowed to escape, just as the entire bin Laden family was allowed to fly out of the US while ALL US airspace was otherwise closed after 9-11.

If you look up PNAC in Wikipedia, "Clean Break" is referenced as one of their principal documents.
Among other things it openly advocated overthrowing Saddam and invading Lebanon in an effort to isolate Syria from Iran.
It was called "Clean Break" because it advocated a clean break from the policies of the past - Israel trying to get along with its neighbors (if you can believe that!).
When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?
Is anybody else noticing the amount of scapegoating going on right now regarding public employees? There seems to be a lot of blaming union members and public employees for people's economic fears. What gives?
It seems that, along with illegal aliens, anyone with a union job is fair game for people who fear for their economic security right now. "Fellow traveler" would be a light slur in the local papers' op-eds.
Just like "low-information voters" advocate for Republican candidates against their own economic interests, many "self-made" professionals currently union-bash and rail against public employees--as though they (we) represent a threat to their economic survival. For them, paying any amount of taxes at all is too much. I wonder if they'll be happy when everyone's thrown out of work and their neighbors' homes are vacant.
... which is the off-shoring of jobs, the Bush tax cuts which reinstated the deficits, when prior to, the forecasts was for surpluses until at least 2040, the trillion dollar Iraq war, the quagmire in Afghanistan, the ever growing military budget that has America spending more than the rest of the world combined, the most expensive health system in the world, the $70B/year war on drugs, the financial handouts to Wall Street that reinstated the bonuses, and so forth.
That's why we're going to see all this nonsense. Does anyone beside me view this "barefoot bandit" story, who I never heard of prior to the arrest, in the same light as the "runaway bride" story? More nonsense to shove any real news to the side.
it was a local issue and should have beeen carried here I suppose but now it's national because the MSM want to make like he is a modern day Jesse James or some other folk hero. He doesn't even want people to think it was a great adventure. He doesn't want to be a folk hero.

Actually I was in a good mood--my mom was just out from AZ for a visit. And I'm a relatively well-schooled drinker/driver who knows my limits.
Worst part of it all is that the cop kept my FL photo ID as well as my D/L they're required to confiscate. So now I can't cash or deposit my paychecks or change motels. Will take 7-10 days to get a duplicate mailed from FL, once I finally get money into my account...

Yeah, I'm looking forward to my new whore relationship with my new lawyer "friend." Somehow, I doubt I'd get lucky enough to get some hot, single, 30- or 40-something DUI lawyer looking for a boytoy... I'll try to dream on it tonight.

Over 6,600 Arlington graves mixed up. The House says fuck you to 9/11 rescue workers. When Ahnie's running the show, it's always an emergency. Anyone wanna extend their lives by four months for a 100 grand? Prop. 13 at work.
Well, actually, yes. Once I read the thing, I see this: "Provenge Cancer Vaccine: Can You Put a Price on Delaying Death? Revolutionary Drug May Cost $93,000 to Add Four Months to Life for Prostate Cancer Patients"
The price seems kinda wrong. Try $12, or $24 family. You know who "general population" or "suspect" was the norm, but all of a sudden a "person of interest" started being adopted in the vernacular, around the same time that torture was redefined as "enhanced interrogation techniques"?
Now, I'm seeing on my health insurance, a rider to buy this +plus insurance that covers a laundry list of procedures that isn't considered "generally accepted medical practice".
They have over 100 procedures here. I notice for example, "Total Ankle Replacement" that isn't covered under the standard policy. Phase I, II, or III trials for Alzheimer's, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is covered, as examples.
There's a lot of stuff here that I would be holding bake sales to pay for, if I wasn't shelling out $12/year for.
I have to say, I'm not expert at this, and I don't understand all of this, and there's *lots* more procedures than what I recapped here, but it is clear to me that health insurance has managed to create a divide whereupon, it is necessary for me to buy a new tier of coverage. $12/year isn't much to think about, insofar as price is concerned, but insofar as ramifications is concerned, I'm still figuring it out.
I did notice "Removal of Proton Beam Therapy for Intracranial Skull Based Tumors because this treatment is now covered under the primary policy.
I'll have to ask if the "Provenge" is covered under my rider of $12.
... and also a chamber of horrors. Lots of High Dose Chemotherapy in conjunction with a Bone Marrow Transplant under the various options.
Dr. Jack is looking good by comparison. But, I'll pay the $12 to make the choice at the time. If I don't pay it, I already made the choice. Otherwise, it's two aspirins or Dr. Jack.?
Here's one under the $12 rider:
Gene Transfer Therapy:
- Breast Cancer
- Glioma
- Leukemias
- Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Oropharyngeael cancers
- For indications approved by: FDA, NIH/NHLBI, NCI Phase I, II, or III Clinical Trials.

....the fools do not realize,a population that can ,..... not paticipate .............in the 'economy'...,can not keep it viable!..........."we are listening,.......and we're not blind.,......this is your life....this is your time."
A two person and low deductible policy under my self insured employer, probably $12,000/year. The $12 dollars is the rider above and beyond the coverage. It covers treatments that aren't considered "generally accepted medical practices". It's only good for those things where mainstream medicine hasn't produced anything that is promising, such as the case with Lou Gehrig's disease.

If it was after 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. you were open target. I ddn't get convicted but they put me through a lot of shit and the winners were the lawyers.
from me. I blew once following the roadside alphabet and waitress walks, then they pulled me out of the car and had me blow a second time. Still not satisfied, apparently, with the results, they strapped me down and raped me with a needle once at county lockup.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to my new whore relationship with my new lawyer "friend." Somehow, I doubt I'd get lucky enough to get some hot, single, 30- or 40-something DUI lawyer looking for a boytoy... I'll try to dream on it tonight.

the attorney is, make sure they know what they are doing. Don't except a court appointed one. Make sure the attorney has all of your facts.
on other cases, but my boss gave me the name of his DUI attorney. I'm hoping if I hire him, it'll give my boss a reason to keep me employed for the foreseeable future.

.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
I'm sure it was a life well lived.
I'm sorry to hear about your mom's passing. Take care.
First woman to be executed in the U.S. in 5 years. The proto-CIA. Madoff family to be sued for $30 million. Anne Rice has a problem with Christianity. BP messes with Texas. Over 6,600 Arlington graves mixed up. The House says fuck you to 9/11 rescue workers. When Ahnie's running the show, it's always an emergency. Anyone wanna extend their lives by four months for a 100 grand? Prop. 13 at work.
A: "Trust me"
The truth will set you free but can you handle the truth?
Are these people really so stoopid to think that insurance corps will share proceeds of death with their paying customers?

... for a 100 grand?
Here's one: Muscle Tissue Replacement
(Stem cell transplant for treatment of)
(1.) Heart failure
(2.) Ischemic Heart Disease
I have to say, I'm not expert at this, and I don't understand all of this, and there's *lots* more procedures than what I recapped here, but it is clear to me that health insurance has managed to create a divide whereupon, it is necessary for me to buy a new tier of coverage. $12/year isn't much to think about, insofar as price is concerned, but insofar as ramifications is concerned, I'm still figuring it out.
I did notice "Removal of Proton Beam Therapy for Intracranial Skull Based Tumors because this treatment is now covered under the primary policy.
I'll have to ask if the "Provenge" is covered under my rider of $12.
means it's very unlikely you will ever experience it.
... and also a chamber of horrors.
- For indications approved by: FDA, NIH/NHLBI, NCI Phase I, II, or III Clinical Trials.
a year.I've got a $6,000 deductable each for my wife and myself.
....the fools do not realize,a population that can ,..... not paticipate .............in the 'economy'...,can not keep it viable!..........."we are listening,.......and we're not blind.,......this is your life....this is your time."
A two person and low deductible policy under my self insured employer, probably $12,000/year. The $12 dollars is the rider above and beyond the coverage. It covers treatments that aren't considered "generally accepted medical practices". It's only good for those things where mainstream medicine hasn't produced anything that is promising, such as the case with Lou Gehrig's disease.
were so convenient...

this is beautiful to watch. When a young person becomes proficient at something physical and grace, their self-esteem is enhanced and nothing bad can ever come of that.
Those guys have my admiration for their grace and control.
