A number of people have been wounded near the Empire State Building in New York City, officials have said. The gunman has also been shot, and killed.
"The incident does not appear to be terror-related, police said."
UPDATE: from the Chicago Tribune, reports state 10 shot, two killed, including the shooter. Reports are now coming in that the shooter may have been a disgruntled employee, fired yesterday.
UPDATE: This is the second shooting in less than twelve hours. In Chicago, 19 people were shot around the city. Will anyone in Washington say it's time to discuss gun control?
UPDATE: Mayor Bloomberg, in a press conference, says that some of the shooting victims may have been shot by the police in their attempt to subdue the suspect.
