If Franklin were around today he'd tell John Boehner to go fly a kite...in a lighting storm.

A comment I just left for a letter to the editors at the DMN, from a Pakistani woman who didn't understand the sudden hostility against Muslims and Cordoba house. She was saying she didn't want to believe these were truely "Mainstream America":

"Mainstream America" is as much a canard as National Interest; there really is no such thing. That's why we have so many perturbations within our own parties. Democrats have their traditional base, unions, quite a number of minority support, but also what are called Blue Dogs who are elected from conservative areas, and to get reelected tend to side with other conservatives. They also have environmentalists, civil rights groups, green energy etc.

republicans have traditionally the Wall Street, the Main Street, the entrepreneurial and the cultural conservatives, and now the astroturfers.

And only 1/3 of the country tends to vote, and only 1/3 of that sub-group identify with either party, leaving the rest the so called Independents, the alienated and the apathetic.

So as one can see from this short example there is no one interest that really ties all these groups together, but a general sense for those who are involved in the issues that they have the answers the system requires.

Generally people cite their own interests as "Mainstream America" or National Interest, not to spark or answer debate in a dialectical exercise but to quell debate.

I didn't see you look under any rocks. Did you look under any rocks? There's only a couple places he could be, he's probably under a rock OR he's in someone's pocket.
