Murray Waas has uncovered a major piece of evidence tying Vice President Dick Cheney to the efforts to attack Joe Wilson by exposing his wife as a CIA operative:

Vice President Dick Cheney, according to a still-highly confidential FBI report, admitted to federal investigators that he rewrote talking points for the press in July 2003 that made it much more likely that the role of then-covert CIA-officer Valerie Plame in sending her husband on a CIA-sponsored mission to Africa would come to light.

Cheney conceded during his interview with federal investigators that in drawing attention to Plame’s role in arranging her husband’s Africa trip reporters might also unmask her role as CIA officer.

Cheney denied to the investigators, however, that he had done anything on purpose that would lead to the outing of Plame as a covert CIA operative. But the investigators came away from their interview with Cheney believing that he had not given them a plausible explanation as to how he could focus attention on Plame’s role in arranging her husband’s trip without her CIA status also possibly publicly exposed. At the time, Plame was a covert CIA officer involved in preventing Iran from obtaining weapons of mass destruction, and Cheney’s office played a central role in exposing her and nullifying much of her work.

Cheney revised the talking points on July 8, 2003– the very same day that his then-chief of staff, I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby, met with New York Times reporter Judith Miller and told Miller that Plame was a CIA officer and that Plame had also played a central role in sending her husband on his CIA sponsored trip to the African nation of Niger.

Go read it all. Cheney may believe he got off the hook in the Plame affair, but it may not be over yet.

Maybe I'm just crazy...ok...I am crazy...but I have been hearing alot more people on my teevee talkin about it...
Not to mention my friends.

You mean like this one? I think Cheney is a bit closer to King Koopa, though.

When the fuck is he gonna be indicted?

Oh David, please don't get my hopes up. I'm so worn out from hoping and being let down. I wish cheney would have to face consequences for what he has done but I'm afraid his pardon has already been written.

And yet the Christofascist traitor is still breathing. Amazing. The United States at one time used to try and execute traitors. Now is a time when we need to resume that practice.

He is crying out (as I think Michael Ratner has suggested) to have a crime "on the table" for which Bush can then pardon him. Bush will try to portray Cheney's crimes as just trying to serve his country as best as he knew how. Trouble is, "serving his country best" to Cheney is pretty much the same as a jackal serving up wildebeest for himself. Too, if Cheney's crimes involve Bush, Bush is not legally able (unless we do not stand up for the rule of law!!!) to pardon someone whose crime also implicates the presidency.

tjb's picture

Doesn't cut it period. There a debate weather shrub can pardon failure to faithfully execute his office.
We ,America, will not accept any pardons for anyone not convicted of a crime, This is a scam dreamed up by ford (rep) that has never been challenged in a court of law. Go find a definition of pardon that is this broad in scope. The courts or the streets your call.

Cheney may believe he got off the hook in the Plame affair, but it may not be over yet.

Obama and Biden have practically written off any investigation of Bush, Cheney, et al.

They would much rather look forward. All this looking backward stuff is for liberal losers.

Cheney wanted the press hounds to follow a different path so he dropped the Plame name and occupation out there and it worked. The majority of the press took off in the, Plame working at the CIA and sending her husband on some mission story, direction. I remember there were some republican senators who were saying that Plame wasn't undercover because she drove her car to work every day.

It never seems it's the big things big crooks get caught for, it's the lesser ones they do and forget to cover their asses.

Some stuff you can't make up!

Rich in San Bruno's picture

Cheney knew exactly what he was doing...He went after Joe Wilson by exposing his wife as a CIA agent. Saying He didn't know what happened is a lie. Cheney is a liar and a traitor; he compromised a CIA agent and should suffer the consequences of his actions. He is not above the law. He did harm to this country, used politics as a tool against political enemies and now he any anyone else involved should be indicted and brought to justice.

Jackie's picture

Dont' bother to call Speaker Pelosi she's on the GOP pay roll too.

Now Cheney put people in positions for his protection. He lined the Judges and even Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey to make sure nothing happen to him. Yes Libby fell on the sword but that's loyality in the GOP Party. Democratics got paid for their cooperation and we know who they are by their vote. Obama knows this too that's why he wants the Public to see who these crooks are by publishing their votes. The Media Executives are doing their best to keep the spin going to confuse the people. Patrick Fitzgerald clearly said Obama and his team were not involved in the Illinois Govenor's crimes. Yes every station kept saying they were. Cheney/Libby/Rove have nightmares when they see the name Patrick J. Fitzgerald. He was so smart he didn't file all the charges leaving some for later as he said the cloud is over Cheney. The Judge in the Valerie Plame case was on the take and got paid big bucks to toss the case out. Now the US Supreme Court is forced to follow the Law or be seen as corrupt favoring the GOP. Valerie was smart to let the case continue until Obama/Biden got in office. New Attorney General and even fired Republican Lawyers will be on hand. Funny the US has a President who knows Constitutional Law while Bush only knows alcohol and drugs. Cheney the college drop out learned from the Nixon team so now this will be a shocker for him as well. It will be good to have an educated honest President and Vice President in office again after 8 long years of having corrupt idiots.

hawkeye17's picture

That's some resume Darth Cheney put together. He's basically admitted to ordering the illegal act of torture 33 times and committing treason by outing an acting CIA asset. He's daring us all to do something about it too. He was so embarrassed that 9/11 happened on his watch that he became what he was trying to kill.
