On Neil Cavuto's Fox News show yesterday, Michelle Malkin tried to appeal to Republicans', ah, base instincts in how they deal with the Obama economic-stimulus plan:
Malkin: I've heard from so many grassroots conservatives who have, ah, managed expectations but still, fairly high ones, that in the wake of the House Republican, uh, holding the line yesterday, that the Senate Republicans will stiffen up their spines and other parts of their body as well.
Cavuto: Careful, this is a family show.
Of course, Malkin views obstruction as their duty, so obviously impugning their virility should they stray seems the natural right-wing thing to do. And I'm sure it'll be very persuasive.
Just wondering, though: Does this mean Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe are excused?

That's part that I've seen so far....not much, until you add it all up. The biggest part of the actual bill is tax cuts like Bush did.
Great list cc. makes you wonder. Several of those things I guarantee we would spend the money on anyway. Why put them on this bill? Like the 650 million for converter boxes. I'm sure that is a bloated program. Do them math and it buys more boxes than are needed, for TV's that will break in the next few years anyway due to their age.

I'd like to see how this lines up to spending during the new deal. Everyday I use bridges and roads and parks that were built by the programs FDR funded. What will we have to show for this spending in 50 years? Old converter boxes and some condoms?
Finance is throwing vast amounts of money at problems using the trickle down theory. At each step, more money is skimmed off the top until there is none left.

No clinics where I live. I phone doctor, then go see him. Done. Not sure but only major cities have clinics. That was part of the Mike Harris conservative idea of making our healthcare partially private to look more like the US......

And, all that while working service jobs with no unions, since good manufacturing union jobs don't exist. See, every penny of the next two generations earning power (except for the very rich) is already accounted for.

the actual bill in layman's terms, but from what I've seen online everywhere it's discussed, the biggest part of this bill aside from throwing money around at nothing, are tax cuts. Read something like 30% of the amount are actually tax cuts. Did Bush get re-selected?

Although at first glance it would seem that some of the areas to which the money is being allocated has little to do with job creation, I remain open-minded until I hear in detail the exact purpose for which it is to be used, how it relates to job creation, and what controls will be established to monitor and evaluate how efficiently the money is being spent. I agree that $11 billion (the total amount of the list) is a lot of money. But I would argue that renovating Fed buildings, which makes up 2/3 of that amount, is directed towards infrastructure and is a proper use of the funds, notwithstanding your ad hominem argument. Anyway, I hope the era of no bid contracts ended on January 20th. And it is possible that some of the other areas of spending you mention may also lead to jobs creation. But, most importantly, although $11 billion is a lot of money, it represents only slightly more than 1% of the total amount, and is no more than the amount spent on the Iraq War by our nation for every month of every year since 2003. If you want to direct your outrage at a true waste of our national wealth, there it is. At least this money will be spent at home. There are a lot of groups with vested interests trying to influence public opinion with specious arguments to suit their own purposes.
