Norm Coleman concedes

So now Norm Coleman has conceded:
Republican Norm Coleman has conceded to Democrat Al Franken in Minnesota's contested Senate race, ending a nearly eight-month recount and court fight.
Coleman announced his decision at a news conference in St. Paul, hours after a unanimous Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that Franken, a former "Saturday Night Live" comedian and liberal commentator, should be certified the winner.
"The Supreme Court has made its decision and I will abide by the results," Coleman told reporters outside his St. Paul home.
This means the hissy fit is truly and finally over. Except, of course, for the one Bill O'Reilly is going to throw.

Limbaugh: Franken won! It's Obama's fault.
No, it's because the Clintons threatened Coleman with death!
(Remember Vince Foster?)
You're also forgetting the evil machinations of Soros!
It's always the fault of the Clenis.
I'm going to have to watch it tonight or tomorrow, just to see the meltdown. Any bets on him calling him Senator Smalley, rather than Senator Franken?
It didn't take long. On top of the Sludge Report they show a pic of Al Franken as Stuart Smalley.
Anyone who has listened to Franken on Air America knows that, whether or not you agree with his views, he is a very thoughtful person with a deep knowledge of the issues. If the right wants to believe their own talking points that Franken is some lightweight "comedian" from "Hollywood," they might be in for a rude shock. It's also ironic that they apply these labels to Franken, who graduated cum laude from Harvard with a political science degree, and who runs intellectual circles around some of their champions such as Sarah Palin.

I might pay to watch BillO if there is a guarantee that his head will really blow up and pop.
I second that
Congratulations, Senator Franken (D-Minnesota)
Has a nice ring to it.
What a shame we won't have Norm Coleman to kick around anymore....
Yippee!!
there's more where that came from.
Plenty of scumbags left.
This might be the day oreilly bursts an aneurysm live on-air.
only hope. Senator. Al. Franken. Say it Bill.
pawlenty will sign very soon. the people of minnesota especially the twin towns have been pissed about this delay tactic by the (r) for some time.
I could have bet a shiny nickel Coleman was gonna whine and cry his way to a full year with his loser's blues. Coleman has wasted a lot of time and MN tax dollars with his tears. The MN denizens should send him the bill personally.
NOW he's Senator Al Franken (D) Minnesota:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_mwsDFm7bQ
Ha!!
But, on the bright side, he cost the Republican Party over a million bucks.
greasing the palms of our glorious and corrupt Senate.
Tough Gig
tough gig but $omebody is going to do it.
That it took this long for the Coleman to give up.
Don't you mean ACORNocrat Al Franken?
After all, isn't there overwhelming evidence that ACORN rules the planet.
No less an authority than Michele Bachmann has made it clear that is the case. Who could doubt such a calm, reasoned, and authoritative voice?
Beck has Sen. DeMint-ed on his show tonight. Beck said having Franken for your senator is like having him, Glenn Beck, as your senator. DeMint-ed said, No, you are much more serious than he is.
Yeah, I couldn't stop laughing either.
Glenn is on a campaign to disprove global warming. Good luck on that one doofus.
As the months rolled by, and Coleman would try yet another angle to steal this one, I was reminded of what happened in my district in Florida.
Christine Jennings wanted a recount in the congressional election againist Vern(one of the richest in con. now)Buchannan. She had every right, and many believe the voting machines were rigged. Basically, they were, but it was harder than hell to gather any evidence, and Kathy Dent(R) supervisor of elections in Sarasota, did all she could to stonewall.
Wellllll, the rethugs around here totally freaked out!! They ripped up one side of Jennings and down the other, relentlessly.
I do hope that someone with hit the wingnuts in the nuts about that one when this bitch fest insues.
Hey, ServeSomebody, I'm across the state from you on the Treasure Coast. Look out your window and I'll wave to you. :)
I surely remember hearing and reading about that race you speak of. Florida has had its share of screwed up elections.
First, that should read "ensues." Sorry. POP, I used to go by BrokenArrow, but couldn't log in after the new site was done here.
Yes, I'm on the Gulf, and I've seen you around.....FallenMonk, and here.
I'm gonna be in your neck of the woods next month as we head over to Sanibel for a few days.
Hope you have been keeping this place under control.
Nice seeing you still here.
Dude!!!! Where have you been? Just about every day when I come to c&l I think about you and wonder how you are. It's so good to see your name and comment. I try to keep my head down and my hands clean around here. :)
Hey, both of you! I used to live in Key Largo (still own a small house there) and was living and voting there in 2000. I'm way too familiar with So. FL politics (can you say "Miami mayoral races?")
I used to go by "Matt in Texas" before I moved out here to California.
I could quickly made friends with someone who has a little house in Key Largo? :) Don't you miss Key Largo? I sure would.
Maybe I'll start coming back in here. You guys are great. POP, I've been doing contracts for the govt in Luang Prabang Lao Peoples Republic and they are unfriendly to some kinds of internet.
Luang Prabang is a magic little place though. Hope you're loving it. I've been a few times.
But I finally got done with the project that took 8 months when it should have taken 3.
Working within a communist government state while working for the US Govt. is a slow grueling process. Everyone is soo important, they all make you sit in a waiting room for hours before you get to meet with them. But of course if you went as a tourist you saw a whole different place. The place, the geography, the Mekong River, the nice French atmosphere, is great.
The local govt... sux big time.
I can imagine that part sucks. I have lots of time in the winter (ESL teacher, Korea) so I get a bag of pot and a bicycle, and cruise around. Last time I went to live with the elephants for a few days, out in the jungle. I just FLOAT about while I'm there. Heaven on Earth!! I have dreams of retiring in a place like that: right off the radar.
I love the Buddhist vibe there.
PS I know exactly what you mean about the "soo important" thing. It seems to be Asian, not only communist. But, I imagine it is more severe in Lao with a communist government. Still the people are absolutely lovely (the citizens.)
Ed, you right on with that. I live in Chiang Mai Thailand now. used to live in Bangkok, hence the name.
POP, yes I did retire, but they offered me a good contract that netted me enough to live over here for a good many years. So ... win-win!
By the Way POP ♥ to you, you my fav mean little lady. Stay that way.
:)
Sounds to me like the tourist route is the way to go. Glad you have finally completed your mission. For some reason, I thought you were retired. God only knows how that idea creeped into my head.
For sure, it is. Try to get over there before it becomes another tourist zoo. Right now it's like time stopped 75 years ago. No fast food, no 7/11s, not electric signs at night, only one ATM. LP is a UNESCO World Heritage site; the whole town!! More monks live there than regular citizens. There's a gorgeous temple on almost every corner.
Yes, please return as often as you can. I consider you one of my first buddies here at c&l and I've missed you. Funny how you get attached to people just by speaking with and to them in comments. I like it though.
with that global warming thing and put this overtly social state back under water where it belonmgs so we can discuss glacially scarred Minnesota instead of Florida.
I do miss it, but I get back there on occasions. I'm about 7 years away from retirement, so we are gradually turning our little yard into a little native plant hammock. We are on a semi-plugged canal (no motor boats can get in, but our kayaks come and go easily)that opens into Florida Bay. We can paddle to a restaurant that has the best margaritas in Key Largo. :)

That honestly surprised me a bit - at least, that he did it so quickly after the decision (not quickly in terms of the election).
Coleman lost long ago, he was never elected.
Franken will do good, and having a comedian beat out an "R"
is just plain good.
No lets get back to my favorite subject, Gov. Mark Sanford of SC.
His Wife should run.
don't get me wrong folks, I really don't give a shit who anyone is screwing, but this is the guy who was out front calling for Clintons blood for that BJ. All of these "R's" who stand and say they are the party of moral values, take a good look in the mirror guys.
Franken, You Rock!! Coleman, thanks for finally stepping down.
Americans, Stand up and make noise, this is YOUR time.
BB in CM,T
LOL your kidding right?
Good to see you, Bangkok...it's been a while. Always thought your comments had a lot of depth.
I can see Paul Wellstone smiling down, and it will be an emotional swearing-in ceremony, for sure!!!
I heard on msnbc today that Sanford has said there have been other women in his life besides Maria. He seems to think if you tighten that noose around your neck it will keep you safe if you fall off a chair.
That someone else is about to go public with those tidbits so he might as well spill all the beans at once now that there's a bunch on the floor.
"It" with any of the others.
Uh-huh.
- he loses the governor race to Jesse Ventura in 1998
- He beats a dead guy to win his Senate seat (the late, great, Paul Wellstone)
- he loses to Al Franken in his 2008 re-election bid
So to recap..
He lost to a wrestler and a comedian and beat a dead guy. Not exactly something to be proud of
Neither was his track record of legislative accomplishment.
you have to love these stories. I wish I got American TV.
I keep hearing about "It Came From Wasila" On CNNI but nothing on here.
Why?
Lets get the "It Came From Wasila" Story.
http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2...
to my ears! The work is not done though. 60 Dems in the Senate means squat with guys like Max Baucus on the team. If you care about a public option, which to me is crucial to any real reform, write, call, e-mail and let your reps know that 72% of Americans want a public option. It is scaring the beejeesus out of me how weak-kneed most Dem reps are being on this.
BE NICE! Give them an "atta boy" once in a while, buck them up when needed.
I'm surprised faux didn't put a (D) next to Coleman's name, you know, for conceding and all.
Give them time.
world of political Television.
Finally!!!
"So vote for me: Pete Tagliani. You'll be glad you did!"
Franken and Davis SNL classic
Ours is a government of law(s)... "Not" men and women. Pardon?
Is that what he said?
And look... he did not need a teleprompter... for his eloquent spiel!
:-/
YOU BASTAGE!!!
Why is Coleman spouting religious dogma about political matters anyway. That's not the behavior of a competent, professional politician. Good thing he didn't win.
I would never waste the electricity or MTF on my new TV watching that angry, old O'Liverspots.
Amen
Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN)!
Homes of Minnesota politicians vandalized for supporting the fraudulent banker bailout.
Remember? "Six Minnesota politicians who each supported the fraudulent banker bailout, robbing the U.S. taxpayers of $5 trillion dollars got a wake up call Wednesday morning when they awoke to find spray painted warnings on the side of their homes and garages."
I'd call it sectarian violence... :)

I can't help it, I have to do it. I'm going to watch O'Reilly. Just this once for whatever amount of time I can stand it. Usually about 30 seconds, but in this case I'll "adjust my attitude" prior to the show and see if I can't make it until his head explodes. Sweet.
Go Franken.
It sickens me how they USE GOD LIKE A TOOL in almost every endeavor these GOP embark upon, be it STARTING A WAR or trying to CHEAT AN ELECTION.
This means the hissy fit is truly and finally over. Except, of course, for the one Bill O'Reilly is going to throw.
Yeah, but the good news is, a BillO hissy fit is the gift that just keeps on giving.
n/c
I'll have to break out the old Franken books and reread the old O'Reilly bits. I'll even fire up a celebratory joint to make the read even more hilarious.
Don't let the door hit you Norm... Hope the hundreds of thousands of dollars you pocketed from the RNC/'non-profits' gets you a good lobbyist seat...which is only natural for con-servative ex-Senators...
Congrats to Al, Finally Franken!
next week to see O'Reilly's reaction to this news as he's on vacation this week. He's probably taking his head explodin' Franken anger out on the staff of some hotel somewhere. Hope his kids and wife can manage to stay out of his way while he stews in the news that Senator Franken is going to Washington. Choke on it, O'Reilly.
I was just listening to the local Air America station here in Minneapolis. They had the Secretary of State on as a guest and he said that Pawlenty was flying back to town and will sign the certification this evening. It really is over, Minnesota has two Senators once again. Even better, neither of them is Norm Coleman.
Good time. We are smuggling in a bottle of wine into my mother's room at the nursing home this weekend.
Al!
Now let's kick some ass.
It's About Time!!!
As a Minnesotan I could not be more pleased to see Norm go away. I will not miss the instantaneous cringe response I experienced every time I saw him or the gag response every time I heard him.
Can a Republican get through a statement without saying the words "prayers" "God" or "family" ad nauseam? When they are caught in scandals like Sanford or concede like Coleman they always have to through in one or all of the words. Perhaps that would be ok if it meant something other than just words with these right wing reattributes.
At least Coleman will have a future. He's rumored to the villain in the next Dick Tracy movie. Candlewax Face
too bad he didn't "focus on the future" 6 months ago. now he acts like he's doing everyone a favor. how about an apology and a tall glass of stfu coleman?
Franken is a Paul Wellstone Democrat and for that the People of Minnesota can be very Proud of there New Junior Senator.
Thanks Paul! You will always be Remembered for Bringing out the Best
in all of us.
you can find work. somebody out there needs a sleazy jewish lawyer (even if he went to the U of Iowa) there is an ambulance out there with your name on it.
i can just see norm and his camera-toting lackey in the car. police scanner on. waiting...
Why poison the well? Franken would have lost, but, instead, the stock market took a dive toward the Big D and Franken won by all of 300 votes. It isn't like the office won't be vulnerable in 5 years.
"The Supreme Court has made its decision and I will abide by the results,"
Um, did you have any choice? What a real swell guy. He's going to abide by the laws of his government.
As it was a UNANIMOUS decision, I'm sure the right wing noise machine will ask for a recount of the judges votes as well.
I'm really glad Al Franken won.
Coleman's concession speech (what I saw of it) just shows that if you get some of these people away from Congress and away from their talking points, they can sound like they're good people. Every clip of his speeches I've seen up until now, he sounded like a political hack.
I hear Falafel Bill was AWOL from his show last night. He couldn't bear the thought of having to report Franken's win, the coward that he is. He was probably at home vomiting. Of course he will place the material in a baggie and store it in his freezer because:
1) He loves himself and all things he issues, hence his need to save it.
2) Every once in a while, when he feels the need to regenerate the vile the he spews, he can haul out the baggie and feel reconstituted.
Congrats, Senator Al !!
He comes right out playing the God card. Give us a break.
But I'm having a hard time considering it a "concession" at this point.
You concede an election on election night, not 9 months later, after you've been told by every court available "You lost. Go away now."
