Obama's victory speech: One for the ages

Barack Obama's victory speech in Chicago tonight was moving and powerful. The crowd -- an incredibly massive one -- was treated not just to an amazing piece of history, but a great orator at his peak.

I'm not sure what more to say tonight. I'm speechless.

I've listened to a lot of Presidents give speeches (since Eisenhower), and I must say that was one of the most inspiring I've heard. Cynic that I am, I will try to keep the faith and believe that Barack will take office in January and do what he says he wants to do.

I volunteered this past weekend at Obama's campaign office in my community (in the suburbs of Philly) and I was impressed with the work ethic, enthusiasm and positive outlokk of all the people who were there - and there were many. Lots of us manning the phones and others doing shifts and going door-to-door to get out the vote. There were even 2 busloads of UFWC members from Seattle, WA , who came to PA to work on beahlf of Obama and the change he promises.

I was inspired by them, I am inspired by Obama. I say Yes We Can.

But 47% of American voters were actually prepared to vote for Bush III?

???

That is a great worry in itself.

This is the only time I've ever been grateful for the electoral college. What is wrong with those 47%? Racism, is my guess. Pure and simple. Well too bad for them. There's a new sheriff in town and he isn't white and they are just gonna have to deal with it.

Embarrassed for my race.

I didn't expect Indiana to swing Obama's way, but that's what it looks like.

I can take a great deal of relief in knowing that the election turned out almost exactly the way it was projected to, with no backhanded surprises. John McCain's concession speech was gracious, but Obama's speech was amazing. This was no pep talk - that was a reminder that the job hasn't been done yet, and that he still has to fulfill his mandate. That was about as sober and realist as I've seen him.

he is truely humbled but ready to lead.

It was an awesome speech, unforgettable. I loved it when Biden came out at the end and all their families got together too. It was magical.

It's been a long time coming....

I actually feel overwhelmed....

I know help is on it's way now, it's gonna be okay...

About the speech:
Not brilliant, but substantial and a wake up call for your country. I actually find the remark about his kids getting a puppy one of the most rememberable. :P
These years to come will be very challenging for you and your country, all his promises will surely not be met swiftly or easily. First of all you have a dollar to revive, a war to end and foreign relations to mend.

Real glad to see that you and your country made the right decision tonight, even though it's a close call when looking at actual votes for the both (mainstream) candidates.(Can someone please explain to me how the country still can be this divided?) But surely not as close as 2000. 2004's election made me declare your nation a blind and ignorant nation, even though Kerry surely was a minor change from Bush, he was a change from immoral and emperialistic actions. Relief to see it was not repeated.

Lets talk about why I and probably the rest of the moral world is glad by this decision: Bush's reign is coming to an end!
But, I really hope that his step down wont be a forgiving and forgetting one. He and his government are still guilty of war crimes and probably numerous other crimes which would come to light if your senate and congress grows some balls after january 21th, or better yet earlier.
Keyword: Accountability.
If the American people can walk away from this and act like nothing happened my and many other foreigners issue with American morals will stay (almost) the same.
Kucinich was my favorite early candidate, due to his true high moral. His efforts to try to impeach the government should be on the agenda for every democrat from now on, since the government is almost completely yours soon and for 4 long years to come!

Anyway, congratulations and enjoy this victory. But prepare for tough years to come.

I'm not ashamed to tell all of you that I had a tear in my eye when I listened to Obama's speech tonight. I remember JFK very well and I have not felt the same way until tonight. What was very special was the phone call from my daughter when the speech was over.

Antagonise China, check (watch his closing statement for the first debate and pay attention to where he mentions Latin America and China). And since he was upset over China's growing influence in Latin America and shrub dropping the ball on the Monroe Doctrine, it wouldn't surprise me if he was intending more assassinations/coups/kidnappings etc in Latin America, way to go douche bag (Obama, not you).

I don't care if he pretends to have a domestic policy or not that's the only difference I see with Obama vs McCain, a pretend domestic policy. Looking at the financial mess the US is in, supporting his neocon aspirations along with domestic policy, something's going to give and I seriously doubt it will be the MIC. Just back from Grant Park. To hear that many people erupt with joy when victory was declared was unforgettable. Then to hear such a brilliant speech - amazing. We are at home again.

that bullet train project seems like a great idea except for the 45 billion dollar price tag. the project would put people to work. you know who does NOT like it regional airlines like southwest. i think it will
eventually happen so will the train linking vegas and L.A.
