Sarah Palin, in an interview yesterday:
We're raised up here to to know that, um -- you talk about equality? You see equality in Alaska. And so that's a good question, because I think that was a bit of a surprise on a national level, was -- what, you mean the other 49 states aren't quite there, like Alaskans are? Well come on, follow Alaska's lead and start allowing the equal opportunities and the equal treatment.Funny thing about that. The black people and other minorities in Alaska tell quite a different story -- especially when it comes to Sarah Palin:

Then there was the news today that Palin's rural adviser has quit because of the governor's shoddy treatment of Alaska Natives. Among other items: Palin appointed a white woman to a game-board seat traditionally held by a Native.Yeah, Alaskans are so colorblind. Just ask Sarah's pals in the AIP.

I couldn't agree more. 64% of Republicans want Palin to run in 2012. Taking the focus off of her will reduce this to nil.
However, there is still the issue of Steven's senate seat and you can see Sarah salivate at the thought of being another junior senator who runs for president.
I would love to have Palin run in 2012. It would split the Republican ticket, likely result in a 3rd party forming, and a easy, cheap, cost effective landslide 2nd term for Obama.

I know hard core Republicans that either left the president portion blank, wrote-in a candidate or voted for Obama, solely based on their disgust with the VP pick. It would have been different had McCain been 50 years old and healthy, but a 72 year old cancer survivor is another matter.

Palin is the brightest star in the GOP's evangelical wing. The party's traditional owners (big business) are already beginning the long and painful process of neutering that wing of the party.

Being as self-centered as Palin is, I thought this rant about equality was in reference to sex, not race. To me, at least, it sounded like she was hinting that she was shocked at how she was treated as a woman, which (of course) is complete BS. She was cradled, pampered, protected and secluded.

I'm an Oregonian. when I was 9 months old, my father (half Eskimo, half caucasian) decided he didn't want to bother with the hassle of a baby, and relocated to Alaska. he spent the next 18 years working under the table for various fishing rigs and doing contract work for oil companies.
when I was 13 I went through a phase where I realized I'd never seen a picture of him, never shook his hand, had no idea who he was or what he looked like (my mom's grandma had trashed all his pics out of anger almost immediately after he ran out).
he was way way behind on child support anyway (never sent a check) so my mom hired a private investigator to try and track him down. give me some closure on who the hell my father is, and maybe get some cash.
the PI was completely unable to find him. he was really honest with us from the get go, and told us "oh wow... ya... Alaska... thats where those kinds of fathers run away to. Alaska's just really unhelpful in working with the rest of us. they make it pretty well known to felons and ex cons and deadbeat dads that you can hide up in Alaska for the rest of your life..."
Alaska's governor's office, support enforcement offices, and various civilian leads were incredibly unhelpful. eventually we just gave up. I've still never met the man.
this is par for the course for Alaska. a dark red state that might just vote a convicted felon back into the Senate. a state that champions a governor running for vice president who dares to come down to the east coast and proclaim that the suit-wearin' banker victims of 9/11 aren't "real Americans" and don't represent the heartland.

While Sarah was at a resurant in Alaska the news of who would be the Democratic nominee. The resurant was full and a witness and others heard Gov. Palin say " Sambo beat the Bit*h". That was reported in the Alaskan news paper. Sarah's husband was born an Eskimo and had to denounce his race and his Mother for Sarah. He no longer speaks to his Mother who has never seen her grandchildren or greatgrandson.

Mr. Neiwert, please, have some consideration for us Alaskans who don't beg at Palin's feet. The truth is, what she said, 'was' true to a point, even if it was like over 23 years ago. I grew up here, this is my home, always will be, but the one thing we didn't grow up with, was racism in any form. It was not until the oil price crash in 1985, and the latter years that the scene changed, and not for the better. Thousands of people left the state, after a few years, thousands moved into the state, and brought all their nasty racist views with them. I lived and worked in Fairbanks and Anchorage for fourteen years... through the eighties and ninties. There are African Americans everywhere in Alaska who CHOSE to stay after serving in the military there because of the non-racist views of Alaskan companies, small business owners, and next door neighbors. My own experience in the state was ALWAYS that, IF YOU CAN DO THE WORK... YOU GET THE JOB... regardless of your skin color, religion (or lack there of,) or political afilliation. Then there are also the Alaskan natives. Remember the BILLION DOLLAR SETTLEMENTS that Alaska's native groups got for land-use contracts over the building of the oil pipeline??? THEY ARE NO DUMMIES... they lawyered-up, went to court, and got the big bucks... and their families and children are respected and treated more fairly that ANY OTHER STATE IN THE UNION.
Now, I would guess that Sarah Palin really does not understand the implications of the point I'm trying to make... in light of her own comments and actions... but don't condemn all Alaskans over the lackluster sheen of her not-so-bright-shining-bulb.

I lived on Kodiak Island in the late 1980's, working the summer between semesters in University.
Met many, many folks with an Alabaman accent and heard many tales of relocating "up here" because it was the last pure State.

Is there any real chance that she could end up in Stevens' seat when he's finally removed? I've heard it's possible but how likely is it that it could happen?
The senate could vote to expell Stevens. The governor of the state could than appoint another one until the next regular election, and that appointee could then run on their own. Since palin is the governor she could appoint herself, so it would be a question of Alaskan law on whether she could have two positions at the same time, or the Lt. Governor would simply take her place as governor.

Sarah was talking about equality for Women, this clip was taken out of context, I am not defending her by no means, but she was referring to Women in Alaska, She went on to say that women hold jobs men nornally have........
I'm not black, but I am gay, so I think I have a pretty good idea how things stand. It's not the same, but I know what it's like to have the office "regulars" discuss whether or not you should be fired because you're gay, and not one of them, and do it behind your back, and smile the next day.
