Well, we've known for some time that Pat Boone has gone wingnutty, but his latest column for the wingnutty WorldNetDaily is one of the most vile pieces of eliminationist rhetoric to come down the pike in awhile:

In time, it seems to happen to all older houses, no matter how well tended they may be.

All manner of parasites, vermin, roaches, rats, worms and termites find their way into the building. Long before they're detected, they infiltrate the walls, the floors, the roofs – and then chew their way into the structure, the supporting beams and the very foundation of the house itself. Silently, surreptitiously, whole communities of invaders make places for themselves, hidden but thriving, totally unknown by the homeowner.

Then, in time, tell-tale signs are seen. Little droppings, discolored trails, proliferating piles of residue appear in corners, on tabletops, little hanging sacs from ceilings – alarming evidence that the grand old dwelling has been invaded. Decidedly unwelcome creatures have made this place their home, and by their very existence will eventually destroy the house and bring it to ruin.

What can be done, when you learn that your house has already been invaded?

Well, the tried and true remedy is tenting.

Experts come in, actually envelope the whole dwelling in a giant tent – and send a very powerful fumigant, lethal to the varmints and unwelcome creatures, into every nook and cranny of the house. Done thoroughly, every last destructive insect or rodent is sent to varmint hell – and in a day or two, the grand house is habitable again.

I believe – figuratively, but in a very real way – we need to tent the White House!

For reasons only he can explain, the current occupant has purposely brought a whole flock of social and political voracious varmints with him into our House. He doesn't own it; he hasn't even rented it; we the people have simply given him the keys and invited him to live there for four years, making it convenient to serve us better, to carry out our expressed wishes for our country.

To the dismay of millions of us, this occupant seems to think we need an emperor. Even though all polls show that the majority of Americans don't want a whole new government-run health-care system, detest the trillions of dollars in un-payable debt he has foisted on us, question the whole "global warming" scare and disagree with him on many other issues, he boldly announces: "We're going to fundamentally transform America!" And he makes it clear that he is going to cram things down our throats whether we want them or not.

Boone then launches into a tirade based almost entirely on the Glenn Beck program (with a dash of Sean Hannity thrown in for good measure): A laundry list of the supposed Marxist radicals who have "infested" the White House, from Van Jones to Kevin Jennings. If you watch Fox, all this is familiar territory.

But what's disturbing about all this is that Boone seems to want the White House "fumigated" right now -- though he's vague on the details of just how we do that. What matters is the vile "varmints" Obama has let into his administration:

No, he wants people who think like this, in order to "radically transform America," as he has pledged.

And they will do just that, drastically … unless we act, decisively and powerfully. Our White House is being eaten away from within. We urgently need to throw a "tent" of public remonstration and outcry over that hallowed abode, to cause them to quake and hunker down inside. And then treat the invaders, the alien rodents, to massive voter gas – the most lethal antidote to would-be tyrants and usurpers.

We must clean house – starting with our own White House.

Tyrants and usurpers? A duly elected president? And when, exactly, does Boone foresee applying the "massive voter gas"? Because, you know, 2012 is quite a ways off still.

This kind of talk is an open invitation to violence; it creates permission for someone to act on this kind of exhortation, especially because it not only dehumanizes, it reduces people to the level of vermin, objects not only fit but desired for elimination.

If Pat Boone is any kind of gauge of the state of mainstream conservatism, I think it's safe to say these people have gone over a cliff and into a deep, yawning abyss.

Remember my discussion of this kind of rhetoric in The Eliminationists: How Hate Talk Radicalized the American Right:

What motivates this kind of talk and behavior is called eliminationism: a politics and a culture that shuns dialogue and the democratic exchange of ideas in favor of the pursuit of outright elimination of the opposing side, either through suppression, exile, and ejection, or extermination.

Rhetorically, eliminationism takes on certain distinctive shapes. It always depicts its opposition as beyond the pale, the embodiment of evil itself, unfit for participation in their vision of society, and thus worthy of elimination. It often further depicts its designated Enemy as vermin (especially rats and cockroaches) or diseases, and disease-like cancers on the body politic. A close corollary—but not as nakedly eliminationist—are claims that opponents are traitors or criminals and that they pose a threat to our national security.

Eliminationism is often voiced as crude "jokes," a sense of humor inevitably predicated on venomous hatred. And such rhetoric—we know as surely as we know that night follows day—eventually begets action, with inevitably tragic results.

There is a very strong similarity between Boone's comments and the statements made in The Eternal Jew, a very famous anti-semitic Nazi propaganda film.

See especially the connection to rats. Both Boone and Der Ewige Jude call their targets invading vermin and rats. It's certainly possible that Boone isn't aware of this, but it's shameful if he doesn't.

Frankly, I don't think Eliminationism is a strong enough word for aping Nazis.

ADDENDUM: Voter gas? Nevermind, there's no way he could be accidentally invoking the gassing of the Jews.

However, in both the cases of Elvis and Michael Jackson, they both thrived beyond their influences. In fact, in Michael Jackson's case he freely admitted he'd studied the stage craft of James Brown. Just as James Brown had molded the flamboyance of Little Richard into his stage precense.

Pat Boone, on the other hand, knew that his music was being used as a sanitized version of the so-called "race music" of the day, but he couldn't sustain his popularity after black artists began crossing over into Top 40 playlists.

It's one thing to freely acknowledge you've borrowed your style from others, but it's the height of deceit to make your entire living by singing music that was already popular, and acting as if you are the first who's sung it.

Pat Boone should be ignored now, and he REALLY should have been ignored then.

There's a big difference between remaking other peoples' songs years after they come out, and coming out with a cheap imitation the day after the original comes out. Back in the day, both would be on the charts at the same time, black artists first of course. We had to be careful not to play the lame Pat Boone version. Talk about blatant! Pat Boone was a joke among progressive people. Little Richard finally had to start speeding up his songs so Pat Boone couldn't copy them with his white bread renditions.

Pat Boone's entire career has been spent as a corporate shill.

As a lover of the Constitution and a supporter of the ideals of representative democracy, and someone who accepts the outcomes of elections, I am ashamed that Pat Boone wears the mantle of someone who knows what is best for America. President Obama is governing because the people of America put him there. He is not "cramming" anything down anyone's throat that the democratically elected Congress and our Constitution permit him to do.

Pat Boone undermines our system of government when he talks like this. Rather than demonize the people who won an open and free election, why doesn't Pat Boone and those who agree with him come up with a set of beliefs and ideas that win elections?

How's that not blatant incitement to violence? I think the folks in charge of protecting the White House and its occupants should be asked that question.

From the Secret Service website;
http://www.secretservice.gov/faq.shtml#faq4

How can I report a threat towards a protectee?

"Contact your nearest U.S. Secret Service field office which is listed in the "Emergency Numbers" section in the front of most phone books.

The Secret Service is interested in legitimate information relating to threats, plans or attempts by individuals, groups or organizations to harm Secret Service protectees. However, the agency does not desire or solicit information pertaining to individuals or groups expressing legitimate criticism of, or political opposition to, the policies and decisions of the government or government officials."

I hardly think suggesting that the occupants of the White House be gassed constitutes "legitimate criticism", let alone mere "political opposition". Seems like he's advocating murder to me, no matter how it's couched.

There's a list of Field Office phone numbers here, should anyone else care to report it- http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml

..and the owner was not spewing "legitimate criticism". While I won't dwell on what was said, I won't be eating Pizza there any longer!

"If Pat Boone is any kind of gauge of the state of mainstream conservatism, I think it's safe to say these people have gone over a cliff and into a deep, yawning abyss."

As the recent poster of Sam and Dave and Otis Redding on Late Nite Music Club, Mr. Neiwert has demonstrated more than passing familiarity with a body of black music from an earlier era. Therefore he has to be familiar with Mr. Boone's cover of Little Richard's Tutti Frutti. As such, he should be aware that if Pat Boone is a gauge, these people have not come out of their cocoon, much less climbed to any heights from which they could fall.

I don't know what the right way of thinking about all this is, but it seems that both sides (the left and the right) of political philosophies is guilty to some degree of the very thing we accuse the other side of.

Having said that, I can hardly contain myself to scream and rant against the likes of people who say such things as Pat Boone has, but take pause when I understand that what he says he believes as assurdedly and as much as what we have said and believed concerning the Bush/Republican/conservative side of things.

Somewhere in the middle lies the truth for all of us.

Anyone have any thoughts as to what that truth may be for all concerned?

How about the rule of law? I hated Bush because he broke the law. Many of us progressives criticize Obama because he allows continued violations of international and domestic laws. The conservatives NEVER, EVER held Bush accountable for anything.

We're not holding Obama as accountable as we should be, either. The air is so thick with what looks to me like manufactured Obama-hate, we don't have time to turn our attention on Obama himself and hold him accountable. What I wonder is how they get Pat Boone and the other sources to provide this stuff, right on cue. This stuff is maximum horrible. Where do they get this surreal, amazing stuff, and so much of it?

Maybe it's like with the Nazis in WW 2. We didn't learn it as little kids in school, but when we grew up, we found out lots of Americans "may have been" in sympathy with Nazis. Henry Ford, Charles Lindberg. Astounding. So the country is actually full of this evil, and all you have to do to bring it out is walk around in the kennel nudging the dogs awake. They bound to their feet and get to barking, right on cue.

Voila, we turn from glaring at President Obama, fists raised to hold him accountable, to salivating in his defense. It sure works on me. Every time I hear another story like this, it flips my on-switch from the administration to the clowns.

And never will no matter if he personally killed a member of their own family. They would find some way to blame it on Obama!
republicanism/conservatism is a mental illness that is killing America!

Oh no, we do hold Bush accountable. The fact is that we are not interested in Case Law, but rather the actual, original documents, you know, The Constitution. If you do the research you will actually find both Bush Jr. and Sr. to have held many progressive policies. How about Bush Sr. and the UN? Hmmmm. Do you guys ever research or think independly. No, of course not. You are happy with the government controlling your itty bitty brains. As for me, I prefer to keep the government out of my pocket, my backyard, and my brain. They tend to fuck things up if you haven't noticed.

In 2006, after the Dixie Chicks criticized President Bush, Pat Boone, himself an entertainer, said: "If I were the president of Iran, if I were Osama bin Laden or any of the terrorist organizers and I could have my wish list totally... I couldn't ask for anything better than for America's entertainers to bash their president, denigrate him, make him seem like an idiot and a self-serving fool, and then have the media go along with it and promote it like crazy and try to undermine the whole war effort."

He also said: ""I think it's outrageous for any of these performers to be bashing our president the way they are." Read it yourself: http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_I...

ANOTHER CHRISTIAN BIGOT!

Eric Paulsen's picture

I imagine that this year will be remembered as the year I alienate half of my family at the Thanksgiving and Christmas table. You see about two thirds of my family is conservative and about a third of them are as fanatical as tea baggers - if not actually in the movement. This year when the inevitable ranting about politics rears its ugly head I refuse to allow the unhinged elements to run their mouths unopposed MERELY to keep the peace. I have been the only one "keeping the peace" by keeping silent for years now, and it's time for them to shut the hell up. Let someone else be the peace maker for a change.

The right have this mantra about how Obama is a despot, dictator, The Messiah, etc. From whence cometh this notion? If anything, I would like to see him be a bit more despotic - call the Blue Dogs to heel, for example. Obama seems way too tame to me, so I just don't understand where Boone and the other right-wing folks get this idea.

It simply doesn't add up.

As others have posted, Pat Boone is one of those who wears his Christianity on his sleeve. If we define Christianity as adhering to the teachings of Christ ("I was hungry and you gave me to eat", etc.), regardless of religious belief, and not by loudly and constantly proclaiming such belief, I propose there are a lot more atheistic "Christians" than fundamentalist ones.

Considering most Americans don't know the difference between fascism, communism and socialism, I'm sure they don't scrutinize what it means to be a Christian either. If you went to church once you're a Christian. THen you can do as you please, just show up at church the odd Sunday.

I know one fellow that said he was a christian years ago. But he drank heavily, did all sorts of drugs, smoked pot, you name it he did it. One day he started preaching to me and I told him to just shut up. I didn't want to hear all this bullshit comming from a hypocrite. He told me god allowed him to do drugs so he could teach others not to! You see what kind of special ignorance you are dealing with? It is one of the reasons I have been saying for quite a while now.
republicanism/conservatism is a mental illness!
It is killing America. It is much worse then terrorism.

...to see his horrible "race music" become thankfully irrelevant but also to witness those disgusting colored people get credit for creating his people's Rock n Roll...And now one of those n****rs is the President!

Poor Boone. I believe he was saving that bigoted tirade for his induction into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Bhahahahahahahah!!!

Great thinking, Patso. If you can't vote 'em out, fart 'em out.

Lost it years ago when he jioned up with the religious republican nut bags. It has gotten worse over the years. For the love of god I cannot understand what lead these people to think they could just ignore the facts and just believe whatever bullshit they want and that makes it true. Just another prime example of what I have been saying.
republicanism/conservatism is a mental illness! It is killing America.

Is a great example of the "banality of evil".
How so much pulsating hate could reside inside one seemingly squeaky clean character like Boone is a question that really, really needs answering.I honestly don't think Pat knows how obscene his thinking is,and he is actually typical of millions of elderly people who for starters, can't get over the fact that "the Coloreds" are in the White House. That's just the starting point.
The worst of it is,this kind of thinking is being passed on to much younger people.

"To me, truth is not some vague, foggy notion. Truth is real. And,
at the same time, unreal. Fiction and fact and everything in between,

I thought the fumigation happened last January. Or is Boone hinting that Obama belongs in a gas chamber and should be executed?

What else would you expect from a hard-core por...uh, bible thumper who made his career doing inferior versions of songs made famous by black singers?

Pat Bonehead is more like it.

Well Pat Hasbeen, we hold elections every 4 years to deal with that little problem of yours. You'll get 1 vote and you can cast it any way you wish. But why can't conservative lowlifes like yourself understand that you simply can't throw someone out of office because you voted for the other guy and you lost. Y'see, we live in a democracy not a banana republic you douch.

Looks like another Racist has come out of the closet.

"parasites, vermin, roaches, rats, worms and termites" are all terms the Nazis used to describe the Jews-

Pat Boone, this has-been whose only claim to fame was making Little Richard's songs sound as straight laced white as possible, might as well have been preaching this crap in Germany in 1938.....
