We're already one up on '08 (well, in 20 days) - we no longer have the to suffer the giggling killer in the White House! It's time for Obama!

And hey, if it wasn't for the .25 cents on the mag, I would have believed that was a real MAD cover.

The detail on the Mad lettering is cool!

Be careful, you're behind the keyboard. LOL!

gosh, I remember reading that magazine as a kid. What a stinker it was. Waaaay ahead of it's time, and still is today.

I think this might be what the dumb ass repugs were trying to do with limpball's music they were circulating...but they just don't know how to do anything but cheat and steal, so it came off way short.

Happy New Year all. I'm looking forward to January 20th each second of the way. That's when the real "NEW YEAR" will beging for this country.

but in its absence I watched The Hour on CBC. George had Lewis Lapham, the head honcho of Harper's magazine, on the show.

What an interesting and funny guy Lapham is. He's old money rich (Texaco fortune, etc) from San Francisco. Anyway, he was talking about The War of 1812, when his great-great-grandfather was the US Secretary of State for War. He and his troops from New York were on the south side of the St Lawrence River from Montreal ready to invade Canada (in February 1813). When he gave the order, his men said 1) it's too cold, 2) they have guns, 3) they are our friends and we depend on them for trade, 4) we're the NY State Army, not the American Army, and 5) we're not going. Then they all went back home.

Lapham is a very charming man and he has surprisingly liberal views about life.

George's guest tonight is Sarah Palin. This could be interesting!

We are going to make you the designated commenter tonight. I already had two typos in the last sentence.

that wouldn't be prudent, ya know :)

I had to look it up and I was wrong. I thought Lapham might have been the Secretary of War whose son was executed for mutiny. But that was Secretary of War Spencer in 1842.

Looks like they really don't know how to manage the bail-out money. Can Obama save the unemployment trend? AIG is looking to rip off more stock-holders.

Foley the 'gift' that keeps on giving...

Washington 'Honey pot' hotels and the lobbyists entertaining,
I guess Abramoff wants out and is finally talking.

Abramoff, Rove, Foley and a slew of Congressional players :O
Sounds like the DoJ has been busy these last two years on the quiet, the clock was ticking and 09 would be their chance to pounce.

Will the MSM report on this or will they be chicken sh1t like they were in 87 about the Franklin child sex ring in Washington.

According to Justice Department sources there is email and phone record evidence that White House advisor Karl Rove is linked to the operation of Abramoff’s sex ring according to federal agency sources who spoke with U.S. intelligence authority Thomas Heneghan.

Heneghan added that a grand jury heard several agents testify last April that “the Watergate, Ritz-Carlton and Sheraton Hotels in Washington, DC were used to compromise legislators and news-people with prostitution services, the financing of which is directly linked to the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Marc Rich and Abramoff.”

Maybe this is the reason those emails HAD TO VANISH.
Nothing worse than being caught with your trousers down, taking money is seen as naughty but normal, assorted sex scandals and kiddie sex by politicians is beyond the pale, even for red states and middle America.

Pardon yourself and your buddies out of this Chimpy, all those nice unpardonable broken state laws.

....New Year's gift it would be if some prosecutor, somewhere in America had the courage to stand up and indict all of these despicable people - Republicans and Democrats alike. I hope Abramoff is talking his head off along, with the person I read about who has the bank records showing all of the illegal money transfers to dozens of US government officials from AIPAC, et al.

Happy New Year, indeed.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I guess this is what happens when you go to bed at nine on New Years Eve night. You wake up early, bright eyed and bushy tailed while everyone else is saying turn that noise down and don't open the blinds.

I already like this year better than the last one. In 19 days, it'll be even better.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

Ferrofluid's picture

Even if its snowing and or 100% cloudy, the sun is shining above the clouds, and in NINETEEN days...

2009 is going to be a good one, eight years of catching up to do.

And the news of the DoJ and the GAO looks promising, they seem to have been busy little bees.

Two Iraqi prisoners being held by British forces at Basra air base have been handed back to the Iraqi authorities, as Britain no longer had the right to detain them after the UN mandate expired at midnight on Wednesday.

The two men were suspected of involvement in the m*rder of two British soldiers in March 2003, shortly after the INVASION.

At least the Brits treated them as POWs and they survived the ordeal.

Happy New Year all

For our Chinese friends, Happy New Year in a couple of weeks as well.

I haven't gone out drinking in years - last night I downed a bottle of champagne in about an hour and I'll be dipped if I don't feel pretty good this morning. Must be because the sun is out and I feel more determined to make 09 better than 08. As mentioned by others earlier, I too look forward to the national enema that will take place on the 20th of this month.

Cheers and best wishes of good health to all!

Anyway, we made to the start of '09. Here's hoping we have no further "January surprises" (current Israel/Gaza crisis noted) from bushco before their departure.

Make it a good one!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-N8_u1FLu30

It's a new year and 20 days till this corrupt, deceitful, disastrous, destructive train wreck of an administration slithers out of Washington. Then the hard work really begins, having to pick up the pieces of what's left of our nation from from a decade of the GOP controlling all 3 branches of government.

Happy New Year to you and all Crooks and Liars aficionados and contributors.

I enter 2009 a happy person personally, but morally can no longer be a Democrat.

While the politicians of the Right take us on a path of self serving power and greed wrapped up and hidden within a deity, the politicians of Left cowers like dogs under the dollars of AIPAC and a foreign Knisset born from Dr. Mengele himself..

To put their perspectives quite bluntly I'll give it to you as only a hard liner can, from a favorite Yiddish saying:

Kahoneez's picture

In continuance of their Kosher News coverage , CNN blatantly lies with their title of the Israeli air strike on Nizar Rayyan , saying " ONE KILLED " a blatant lie on their web site .
Several of his kids and four women were killed at the very least and that's the minimum count , so was it a mistake or a purposely misleading LIE ? In context of their pro - Israeli news , ie never admitting during reports Israel stops them from entering GAZA , refering to being on Gaza / Israel Border , w/o just saying they are in ISRAEL and avoiding civilian casualties or pictures and just now adding the audio of the pain and misery . spin , spin, spin .
