I like George C Scott's version in particular because even at his age he was a physically intimidating presence, who didn't whine or whimper, but seemed to bark and snarl his lines.
And the surrounding cast with David Warner, Michael Gough, Susanna York, Frank Finlay, and Edward Woodward was excellent.

We saw their Christmas show in 87-88? with some friends who have never heard of them and were blown away.
BTW This was the first song on their first Christmas album and every year this is the first Christmas song that I play while decorating the tree.

On this issue I and a couple of others had some harsh words on this board regarding the punishment that one would receive if they became pregnant while serving. I had said that they don't automatically get discharged or court-martialed as I had seen otherwise in my military experience. I also don't believe they should be either automatically discharged or CMd. Each case is different and the needs of the military weigh heavily. Also, they often play a valuable role for their unit both during pregnancy and after, albeit in non-combat fashion.
The status of the women who had become pregnant under this particular general's command:
"To date, he said, there have been eight cases of women getting pregnant while deployed under his command. Four were given letters of reprimand that were put in their local files, which means the letters wouldn't end up in their permanent files and they wouldn't be a factor under consideration for promotions.
The four others found out they were pregnant soon after deployment; no disciplinary action was taken since they were not impregnated while deployed.
In all cases, the women were sent back to the United States for medical care, as is military policy. Each has the right to submit a letter in her own defense to be included in her file."

The circumstantial evidence is there: (1) the woman had made trouble for the Poop at least once before, so, just as the Sheriff's deputies were complicit in the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald, the Swiss Guard and other Vatican security forces should have sussed her out from the gitgo; (2) the service was surprisingly rescheduled from midnight to 10 p.m. Roman time -- for the first time in the history of the Vat, suggesting the cabal wanted to make sure many more people were watching, coinciding with prime time in some parts; and (3) he is just about the least popular Poop in the last 500 years or so, what with whispered rumors he belonged to the Hitler Youth ("they made me do it," he explained), the Vat's continuing protection of pedophile priests, and Roman Catholic meddling in American political decisions -- this in a nation that prides itself for having a barrier between church and state. Well, look, it's no more loony than Rosie's claim 9/11 was an inside job. A lot less when you consider the unsavory, cruel, sexist, oppressive, genocidal, death-oriented history of the Vatican.
