Go Home

The netroots has made a huge stand for health care reform and we're not sitting around doing nothing. Blue America hit Blanche Lincoln hard which forced her to write an op-ed in Arkansas to try and redefine her position and now the PCCC and DFA just hit Ben Nelson in an action called: Health care Can't Wait. Lincoln, who is up for re election took an approach in which she informed her constituents that she's considering the public option now which is a good start, but Ben's response was to cry, stomp his feet and declare that health care reform will be killed if Americans stand up and demand that he be part of the solution.

Senator Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) lashed out Friday at the ads being run against his position on health care reform in his home state, saying they would backfire -- and might even derail the entire reform process.

In a statement issued late in the afternoon by Nelson's office, spokesman Jake Thompson warned that if the new series of ads calling out the Senator's "stalling" on reform were "an indication of the politics going into August, then health care reform may be dead by the end of August."

"Nebraskans don't need outside special interest groups telling them what to think. Senator Nelson has nothing but praise for Nebraska groups working toward health care reform. Unfortunately, he says, these outside groups undermine the sincere and dedicated efforts of people in our state," Thompson wrote. "Recently, similar ads have run in Nebraska. Those ads by other special interests prompted hundreds of Nebraskans to call our offices, with 9 to 1 urging Senator Nelson to do exactly the opposite of what the special interest group wanted. In short, the ads backfired."

Politicians who dare to say that they will kill health care because the American people want change just proves our point about the gasbags that reside in Washington that rule our country for themselves and not for the people they were elected to represent.

Olive Willis:

They seem to think that the support they got in 2006 and beyond is going to keep them up if they just have a (D) behind their names. Conservative democrats who obstruct meaningful progress in Washington are the political equivalent of Bush Republicans, and they’ll be treated that way.

Do your job, Senator.

We will not back down and we will not go away. Blanche Lincoln will hear from us shortly too.

PCCC and DFA are doing their part and so are we. Please donate to Blue America's Health Care Choice so we can keep the pressure on.

It makes me sick (no pun intended) that these douchebags want their "recess" first to "review" the legislataion....Like they don't fucking know already we want 50 million uninsured covered and we want the government to take on the same fatass insurers that are bankrupting the nation.

we're not insuring illegal immigrants

it's not going to put Aetna our of business

it's not going to bankrupt the country. unlike occupying two countries and letting bankers run off with trillions in assinine CDOs.

Since they seem so concerned about reading the legislation, I say Congress members that appear to be holding up the legislation face tough questioning. Stop allowing them to get away with decrying things that are not even in the legislation.

..........follow the money.

Ben Nelson is free of reality.

but that doesn't make reality go away, so someone else has to do something about it.

"Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob"
-= Franklin Delano Roosevelt =-

This is a good ad.

But as I understand it, the public plan has been so watered down (read this) that it will do nothing to take price controls out of the hands of insurance companies.

Nobody has defined what a "robust public option" means. And if they once DID define what it means, it doesn't mean that any longer.

It's got to be single payer. Nothing else will do.

while i think nelson and others-blue dogs, etc-campaigned w/the underlying knowledge of voters that the democratic party historically connotes delivering on good strong social infrastructure, they deserve to be called out when they don't deliver and work against these policies...and held accountable.

but, the current watered-down public option is elusive and would be hard for reps to explain at best. and looks like it's getting even more watery-down-ed.

so much easier to explain single payer == medicare extended to everyone.

oh, well--still nelson is a traitor in so many ways...good to see the heat being turned up.

Honestly, if there were no ads calling out Nelson, he would definitely derail health care reform on his own. Why should he care about health care for all Americans? He's got national health care himself.

This may surprise Nelson, but even Nebraskans need health care. They may be more conservative than other states, but they still need to be healthy. And one of Nebraska's three electoral votes went to Obama.

Van's picture

is going to have to spend the entire month of August campaigning hard for his health care overhaul. You know the tea baggers and health care lobbyists are going to spend millions of $$$ spreading their garbage and fear mongering over the airwaves.

We need to stay on the phone to our Congresspersons and keep giving money to organizations like Blue America and Move On. This isn't near over yet.

GIVE UP YOUR MEDICAL PLAN.

You are as undeserving a soul as there ever was. You steal from and defraud your constituents. Remember the people who voted for you? The was not the insurance company with all those votes. Those were your uninsured-because-they-can't-afford-it constituents.

dnyknot's picture

pay as well , just ask max and arlen and joe and and and , 1 month in the trenches and the congress would be wiped out nuff said .

every time you throw a little mud , you lose a little ground .

He actually goes so far as to say that people have been calling in his office overwhelmingly asking that the insurance companies stay intact?

It never ceases to gall me how far the politicians will go in lying to the public, I mean afterall, you can lie to save corporations at the expense of the national welfare, but god forbid you lie about whether or not you got a blowjob.

Our country is sick with the Stoopid.

miss_kitty's picture

Right. If he'd looked at the caller IDs on those calls he'd see they had come from the upper management phones of The Prudential, Blue Cross, Regency, Safeco and the rest of those scurvy lying dogs. And he's a scurvy lying dog as well.

this communist health care reform!' Sure, senator. Mind if we have a look at your phone logs?

BTW.

HIT HIM AGAIN

We don't deserve to be in power. Just give it back to the other guys. I'd rather see people get things done, even if it's something I don't agree with, than these do-nothing milquetoast pussies.

(YouTube): Weiner Introduces Single-Payer Amendment to House Committee

July 31, 2009
Anthony Weiner (D-NY) House Energy & Commerce Committee - Introduces Weiner/Welch amendment to get Single-Payer in the legislation again.

Amendment is essentially to replace H.R. 3200 with H.R. 676—single payer Medicare for All.

(Library of Congress): H.R. 676 Summary

United States National Health Insurance Act (or the Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act) - Establishes the United States National Health Insurance Program (the Program) to provide all individuals residing in the United States and in U.S. territories with free health care that includes all medically necessary care, such as primary care and prevention, prescription drugs, emergency care, and mental health services. ..

Read the whole summary - it's short, and sweet!

works for me. I'll take the 676 please!!

To Senator Ben Nelson (D-Neb.),
Don't you threaten me you piece of shit.

Nelson is a TRAITOR. What is the threat here? That he's gonna keep doing what he's doing? He's working his damndest for his corporate masters, doing everything to deny ALL Americans the health care that WE pay for him AND his family. Hold him to account, put the screws to him, expose him as the prostitute that he his.

What's his next childish stunt? Hold his breath until he turns blue? I have a suggestion then.

Go right fucking ahead, you coward! When you drop dead then there will be one less asshole we have to deal with!

Do you think if Nelson had a better haircut (toupe), he'd be a better senator?

Terrible's picture

more media attention anyway.

Unfortuantely, I do not live in Nebraska to vote this sorry SOB out of office. However, I can certainly send money in a bid to unseat him.

I wonder what kind of offers he has from those giving him huge sums of money to do their dirty work? Who will be his next employer?

xargaw's picture

Contact his office and let him know that 75% of the country wants a strong public option and targeting him when he is obstructing our goals is called democracy. It doesn't matter if we live in Nebraska or not. This is a federal issue and we are all Americans. He is fair game.

-Bricked-'s picture

That's my pitchfork on the sharpening stone...

Nelson is showing us that "Do you know who I am?" attitude. Also, from the way he's behaving these ads must be getting under his skin a little bit.

CnLfan's picture

This morning, John McCain told CNN's John King that "the blue dogs, they always bark, they never bite, they almost always--always--roll over and then play dead. And with that, he all but guaranteed that Ben Nelson will fight his own party to the very end on this one, just to prove his manhood.

Roket's picture

"Nebraskans don't need outside special interest groups telling them what to think.”

It appears that Nelson is under the erroneous assumption that the insurance industry is not a special interest group. With contributions of over $2M, I would think that Mr. Nelson would consider them to be very special indeed.

information.please's picture

More and much more of ads like these. Actually saw this one before this entry, and was fairly impressed. Further ads need be no less bold- indeed I'd prefer a bit more venom toward the vested interests!

Tax the Rich's picture

They should flash all of these bribocrats ill gotten gains across the t.v. 24/7. If the repukes can spew Orwellean bullshit on the airwaves day and night, eon after eon, we aughta be able to kick some short term ass with the truth.

The American people are a rather ignorant and guillible group (especially Nebraskans), we are going to have to keep the heat on. these people have been so brainwashed over the last 25 years into supporting their own economic suicide by conservatives, that they think liberals are from another planet whose goal is to steal their plastic dashboard jebus.

It's gonna take a lot of deprogramming to say the least.

Rush Limbaugh is what a smart person thinks a stupid bigot sounds like.

He's a sociopath. He needs to be kicked out of the caucus.

I'd like to see the phone logs, 9-1 against public public healthcare? I'm calling bullshit. that puts Nebraska so far out of the mainstream of American opinion that his claim isn't credible.

What a whore. this asshole needs to lose his job. Big time.

docb's picture

they do not know the definition of the word in Congress...When you look at the history of legislation --you quickly realize they do what the Corps/Insurance Co's want and not the people..

Call them 1.866.220.0044 or 1800.828.0498..Tell Nelson, Conrad , Mcconnell, Kyl and the Old Yellows ...to get off their thumbs and do the single payor legislation without DONUT HOLES AND WATERED DOWN LAWS and GIVE AWAYS FOR INSURANCE CO- HMO"S AND ETC!

Voters in Nelson's state are not dumb...they know he has gotten caught with his hand in the cookie jar working against the will of the people!! He will pay for thinking he can keep them in the dark on this and other issues!

Ex-Canuck's picture

Mr. nelson is a blot on the democratic party. I know that Nebraska has some problems when it comes to the xtianist agenda of killing scientific thought and principles, but how does a democratic senator like nelson survive? Who supports this sellout to the party?

DevilDog21's picture

"Nebraskans don't need outside special interest groups telling them what to think."

Yeah, those pesky outside special interest groups known as the American public.

What a tool.

sickatheshit's picture

Nelson and his ilk-- any of the little piggies feeding at the public trough who vote against public health insurance option-- should be forced to surrender their publicly-financed health insurance cards. Real easy syllogism-- if its not for us, then it's not for you. Idiots!

Torn-Q's picture

Something solid has to be done about these 2 old parties. I don't know what but something has to be done. This 2 party sick, twisted joke of a political system just isn't working out.
