Bob Dole was told to STFU on Health Care by Mitch McConnell
By John Amato Monday Oct 12, 2009 1:00pmBob Dole was told to keep his trap shut by non other than the odious Mitch McConnell, the man who has as an approval rating as low as Dick Cheney's.
The GOP’s 1996 candidate for president said he was asked by current Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., not to issue a bipartisan statement calling for passage of health care reform legislation.
“We’re already hearing from some high-ranking Republicans that we shouldn’t do that — that’s helping the president,” Dole said. He later specified that the people he referred to included one “very prominent Republican, who happens to be the Republican leader of the Senate,” according to The Kansas City Star .Dole was also quoted as saying that partisanship by his own GOP was behind the delay in reaching agreement on a final health care bill..
I don't expect Dole to suddenly go on the air and rip into his party, but the fact that this much got out says a lot. The republicans have no plan for health care reform so any words that come from older republicans on the hot topic carries a sting to it.
Mitch will be on Face the Nation today and I wonder if Bob Schieffer will bring it up or read a David Brooks column. Maybe they'll just want to talk about the Nobel Peace prize. What do you think?

I can't remember who it was but one of the talking heads had Dole on the phone and played him the recording of what McConnell said. Dole responded by sounding apologetic and saying he didn't intend what he said to come across the way it did. Dole sure as hell didn't stick up for what he had said and defend it. He sounded weak and like a kitty.
Would tear McConnell's ass off. Maybe I'll send them in on a stealth mission.
McConnell is married to Elaine Chao who was Bush's Labor Secretary. She spent her time writing up manuals for corporations on how to best circumvent the law and screw their employees. McConnell and Chao -- two more enemies of the people.
A politician cares only about the next election. A true statesman cares about the people who elected him.
Country first, my ass.
Too late Dole is already on record/tape and then to boot he tells us who the idiot was that told him to shut up..
Another example of a statesmanless Senate..At least Dole told the truth ...Mcconnell would not know it if it hit him in his flat a$$!
It doesnt matter what Bob Dole nor Mitch McConnell says. If they want to know what to say and not to say, they need to ask the big boss, Rush Limpbaugh.
From the sound of Dole on that phone call that I talked about in my comment above, he sure sounded like someone who had been called to task for what he said and the first person who came to my mind was Rush. Who else could make him sound that wimpy and apologetic? He sounded like a little boy whose mom had told him he must apologize to his playmate for calling him names.
Or maybe gland beck
Well, I think someone should get Glenda Beck to explain something. When we were traveling a few weeks back, I heard a radio commercial done by Beck for some gold investment company. Tonight on the second half of his show he is talking about the weak dollar and the growing value of gold. He should be made to say that he is employed by some gold investment company to do ads to sell gold investments. Isn't that the new law these days?
The Republicans, indeed conservatives in general, have always been pretty careful about not letting blood leak under the door when engaged in backroom "conferences". I would love to have been the NSA staffer assigned to monitor that call. I bet it was a duesie.
... where "deusie" comes from. I salute you, sir!
I don't know where "deusies" come from but I have discovered there are none in my dictionary. So I guess that's a good thing. ;)
I always thought it came from Hazel when she was talking to George Baxter?
I think doozy was the word Hazel used. Deusie sounds like the name of that idiot on Fox and Friends.
Deusie comes from the Deusenburg (probably spelled wrong) which was a hot car in the 1920's.
Dual overhead cams and four valves per cylinder in 1920!
the fastest cars of its' day. It also spawned the phrase "goes like sixty" when that was considered exceptionally fast.
Oh Etymology! That's fun too...
Yup - Duesenberg.
The term probably caught on because it sounds like "Daisy" as in "You're a Daisy if you do!" which was a popular phrase at the time.
...apparently, Republicans have to leave office before they can be honest with the American people.
from corporate America and its lobbyists disappear.
generals.
they're actually telling their members not to help the president?
Why do Republicans hate America?
They hate it because they fu*ked it up so bad they no longer want any part of it.
They hate America because it has Liberals in it. I think that sums it up.
Well, was Mitch on Face the Nation yesterday and what did they talk about? Was this mentioned? I proudly did not watch any of the morning shows yesterday because I guessed they would all be pissing and moaning about the Nobel Peace Prize, cause ya know, that's the most unimportant subject right now.
to Sunday school.
Nope, I just opted out. I had forgotten how nice a Sunday morning can be when you aren't aggrevated over the BS you hear from these shows.
I don't think Martini is religious. I don't ask, and he doesn't tell.

Look at all these former Republican congress folk....Bob Bole (who had is WWII arm injury fixed by "socialized health care" and Bill Frist a former physician) , etc....coming forth now in favor of health care reform now that they are out office and can't help pass it. That tells you something right there. How many Republicans who are in office now are really for health care reform but will vote against it because they are not ready just yet to be retired by the healthcare industry in 2010 and 2012? Republicans (and some Democrats) are totally beholden to the corporations.
The ones holding office now are too chicken fecal matter to be honest and their pockets are too full of money to allow it as well.
Has anyone noticed that Mitch McConnell is morphing into Jesse Helms?

His face appears to be so full of botox that he can't move much of it. Maybe it's seeping into his brain too.
From this day forward MM will be known as Senator Jowls (R) Kentucky.
Sheifer is so predictable. He makes Face the Nation dull. I now give him 10 minutes to put up or shut up. He won't discuss anything contentious. He's too conservative, taking the softer side, afraid of exploring. He's backward in his thought process(It's conservative). He's totally afraid. You can hear that fear in his music. Too obvious. He would never ask McConnell the truth. He'd want to be conservative in his approach.
Hey Dole: "The house, the house, the house is on fire....don't put it out let the mother fucker burn".....Put out the lights for the conservative movement.Burn down the republican party. There's nothing left inside and the old building is damn near gone. Dole fought for something entirely different than this...Right Bobby? How dare that ingrate tell you to shut the fuck up...ehhh Bobby?
Remember Sheifer didn't think Obama was qualified to be president because he wasn't shot down in a plane. Sheifer has issues.
Hey Mitch, Congress creates the legislation. The President signs them into law. Remember that whole Constitution thingy?
It is your responsibility, as a member of Congress, to provide “checks and balance” to the Executive Branch. Not to oppose everything the President wants if he has a “D” after his name and support everything if he has an “R”.
Health Care Legislation is not about supporting the President at all, Mitch. It is about supporting the American People. They are something you seem to have forgotten in your zeal for “staying elected”. If you don’t want to pass “Insurance Reform”, fine. It’s your job that is at stake. But in that case - get your polls out of your ass and “get out of the way”.
I would like to ask Mitch if he came out in support of the President's healthcare reform bill, who would be the first person he would hear from? Would it be a republican or an insurance company?
.
Bob Dole seems like a nice guy. I didn't agree with his party but he was never vicious like Newt.
"I'm Bob Dole!"
It's Bobdole.
Kind of say's it all doesn't it.
Thanking Bob Dole and a few other Republicans for their support of Health Care Reform:
DNC Health Care Ad
I would like to know where McConnell gets off telling anyone anything. Dole can say anything he wants. This is supposed to be a free country right?
person than Mitch is the operative that married him. Then again, she has to wake up to that.
Afterall the Reslugs must keep their sheep in line.
