C&L's collection of right wingers denouncing the DHS report on extremist violence

Obviously our soldiers aren't the focus of the report, but the right wing kooks needed to find something to attack it with because the report perfectly highlighted the issue at hand. And as we've seen so far, right-wing violence is up dramatically since President Obama was elected.

Conservatives are trying to whitewash far-right terrorists out of our memories There was Bill Bennett, that right-wing moral icon, telling John King's "State of the Union" panel yesterday on CNN that DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano's clear explanation wasn't good enough.
Is the DHS watching returning veterans? Only when they join far-right hate groups -- O'Reilly says the report was "unnecessary," cooked up by a bevy of myopic "far left" liberals freshly ensconced in their DHS offices.

Irrelevant? They've got a disillusioned and angry crowd that are happy to hear anything that reaffirms their view that the past eight years would have been perfect if those damned liberals hadn't corrupted and infiltrated the Republican Party with their tricky ways!
They may be in the electoral minority at the moment but so were the progressives and Democrats less than 3 years ago.
It is a minority but a large and committed one. For these compromise is congress with Satan. There can be no cooperation or bi-partisanship with people who judge you to be the embodiment of evil.
Here's a video of Shep Smith reading the email he gets at Fox News. Even he's worried about how worked up the Fox viewers are. The problem is, he blames the blogs and not his fellow talking poodles Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity and such who often perpetuate the smears his emailer is raving about.

That said, we on the left need to be better than this and try to abstain from the same fear mongering, dehumanizing rhetoric that the right has lobbed at us for so long.
We need to move our nation from a "You're either with us or against us" mentality to "We're all in this together."
It's the only way to fix this problem.
Honestly, I go to church with a lot of people who believe that I'm horribly back-slidden or hypnotized by racial issues to be a Democrat.
I had a lovely young woman (who I love dearly) ask me how I could be such a Godly man and still be a Democrat. She assumed that all Democrats were tools of Satan.
People who get their "news" from Fox, Limburger and Insanity and hear their views reinforced on "Christian" Radio start to see politics as a religious issue.
If their political views are the dictates of God then anyone with opposing political views is opposing God, Himself.
I don't want to dehumanize these folks. I want, if possible, to show them that their idols are liars.
I once had a girlfriend say when she found out I'm an atheist, "But you're so nice?"
Leading by example is the best way.
If you are a Christian, you could explain that churchgoing Democrats usually live by the gospels, which teach peace, tolerance and forgiveness. Yes, Jesus was a liberal, and that is why Republican Christians feel uncomfortable with him; they prefer to speak of "God", a tougher, vindictive figure of the Old Testament, who doesn't give them a guilty conscience. Can you imagine Pat Robertson or his ilk saying "Blessed are the meek"? Liberal claptrap.
These folks are just bitter, twisted, derranged, and not all that smart.
Bill Bennett is anything but correct about things. He thinks about thinking about things, then he buckles under the effort.
None of these people can operate without waving their fingers, hands, or arms. I dare any one of them to keep their hands to themselves. I'm serious. Let's see it.

There is not much doubt about it , Limbaugh , the right wing talk show hosts and the lunatics at Fox news are a public menace and a danger , they should all be put on a domestic terrorist watch list , there needs to be limits set by law just how far they can go before they have crossed the line , just like saying the F word etc. , enough is enough , it's out of hand and they've got away with far too much for far to long . They need to pounce on the lunatic chimpanzee number two , Rat Robertson , the friggin fraud , take away his organizations tax exempt status , clamp down on these traitors and saboteurs ! Damn , there needs to be a purge in this country , I swear ! Have not they done enough damage to this country ?

The only one I listened to was Pat Robertson, and this man is entirely scary. It would be hilarious if it were not so sad that sheep listen to this man. His faux "outrage" was as bad as anything used by Goebbels in WWII. Emotional pandering of the most juvenile variety, all couched in stunning hypocrisy and hyperbole

There need to be more reports like the DHS on these extremists. President Obama needs to focus on these hate groups and really do something to get these radicals under control. A civilized nation should not tolerate this kind of violent rhetoric and criminal behavior.

And the one thing I will always know about Robertson is when he ran for President he called himself a "Korean war combat veteran" whjich caused outrage among Marines. You want to talk about strings being pulled to get out of combat? Robertsons entire boat, over 1000 Marines, got diverted to Japan so he (and 6 others, as not to make it obvious) could be off loaded there and all the others went into combat in Korea.
One of the others eventually demanded he go to Korea and Robertson was furious. Shortly after arrival he was sent off to be "liquor officer" in the rear.
He got called out by real combat vets for his lies (they knew then he had connections) and shortly thereafter dropped out of the race
