Yesterday MSNBC's Contessa Brewer tackled the rantings of Pastor Steven Anderson down at his strip-mall church in Tempe, Arizona, and examined the common-sense connection between this kind of hate-filled rhetoric and the people bringing guns to events featuring President Obama, as well as the various acts of domestic terrorism and right-wing violence that have accompanied the rise in this kind of talk.
The segment featured Evan Kohlmann, an NBC terrorism analyst, who remarked:
Kohlmann: Yeah, it's amazing that this kind of rhetoric is allowed if you're a certain kind of person, if you're a patriotic American you can say whatever you want, no matter how far along the line it comes to inciting people to violence towards other innocent people. It's completely unjustified.
But but but but ... doesn't Kohlmann know there is no connection whatsoever between the people who fill crazy people's heads with crazy, provably false ideas and the violent and insane actions that follow? That's what you always hear from the right-wing pundits at Fox, at least.
Which is why you'll never see this subject discussed at Fox -- except, perhaps, in dismissive tones designed to make excuses whenever the violence does inevitably erupt.

Now, here's something you'll never see Fox News Channel try to expose for its fabrications. They would promote this nut's agenda. It is amazing that this kind of rhetoric is still going strong across this country. Thanks to the right wingers like Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Mike Savage and yes, Rush Limbaugh, among others.

..enough people. Why isn't Contessa Brewer's reporting of this featured on the morning shows? Because heaven forbid they hold up a mirror once in a while as there would be no reflection.
Yes, that's right. I called the msm vampires just because I don't think they're smart enough to get the Bram Stoker reference.
Mickey: "It was an epiphany. Do you know what an epipany is?"
Keoni: "NOT NOW MICKEY!"
... Lou Dobbs did.
On Sirius OutQ 109 today, Michelangelo Signorile played clips of this guy as well as another preacher who are praying for Obama's death and the killing of all gays in America. Another preacher is blaming all gays for the financial crisis because of Barney Frank.
I listen to OutQ whenever I get the chance. It is also on XM Radio as well. There are very few radio programs geared towards the LGBT community. I love the OutQ station on Satellite radio. Michelangelo Signorile is always on top of these anti-gay hate stories from all over the country. If you have Satellite Radio check his show out. He did play the clip that Contessa Berewer played in addition to other preachers praying for violence.
If you ask me, these religious organizations need to have their tax exempt status taken away and those clergy advocating violence with their Christian fatwas need to be arrested for inciting terrorism.
These so-called preachers calling for violence are no different than the Islamic radicals who call for the same kind of violence. If these preachers were not white and were brown skinned preaching from a mosque they'd have already been arrested under the new terrorist laws. These people advocating this type of violence are worthy of orange jumpsuits and prison.
>These people advocating this type of violence are worthy of orange jumpsuits and prison.
It's because of these people and the millions that follow them and voted or Bush when called to action that the US has innocent people being tortured in prisons in orange jump suits.
They invent the lie and cry fowl, treat people in the way they do until they react then point and say "there is the proof".
Though the US has been doing that for years, it's not really new, just that the extremes are growing in confidence and volume.
"They invent the lie and cry fowl, treat people in the way they do until they react then point and say "there is the proof".
I think you mean they "cry foul" -- unless you're implying that they're actually chicken...
(:>)
Since they are Christian preachers, nothing will happen to them or their churches. Now, if they were Muslim preachers (don't know the correct term for them) saying exactly the same things, you can imagine the consequences. The Muslims would probably be lynched. But it's all okay if you are a Christian.
Terrorism Is OK If You're A Republican.
If you're a republican you are a terrorist. You terrorize seniors on health care and in general practice the politics of fear.
Free speech ....... there is no such thing as hate speech in the US haven't you heard ....... you don't need any respect of maturity, living the dream !! yeee hawww
to "die and go to hell".
is not that big of a deal.
(I myself) have often "prayed to God" that Darth Voldemort and the Chimpster would go rabbit hunting together one day...with elephant guns...
...maybe he is merely praying for Obama to contract a bad disease...
audit-prosecute-incarcerate
Isn't praying for someone to die and go to hell a no-no in mainstream Christian practice? I mean, isn't using spiritual power to do harm actually black magic? Does anyone know what mainstream theologians think of this?
Translation:
If you are a white, male cracker asshole...
...these xtreme right wing retards. Look at this guy's eyes. Lord, the man's a fucking bot. Those hollow black pupils and that creepy "I'll diddle your daughter" smile. What lab do they grow these people in and how do we yank their motherboards?
I was thinking along those lines when I watched the latest Chuck Grassley video elsewhere on this site. He has lizard eyes. I keep waiting for him to pull his human face off to reveal the horrible monster underneath.
before somebody goes berserk. it's shocking to me that nobody seems to be doing anything about it.
Have to ask, who's interests are it in to let that happen then.
to the full 20 minutes of his rantings. He goes on to say that he hates Obama. He is really one sick racsist son of a bitch.
at this "church" his message is thou shall HATE and show no respect to those not like you.
This is just sickening.
Jerkoffs like this are one reason I don't believe in a God, but if there is a God, heaven and hell, etc., this guy is the devil, evil-incarnate, on earth.
I no longer call myself a Christian, but a Deist (with heavy influence from Taoism).
The problem I have with Christians, is that the sensible ones... the ones that actually do God's work, help others, etc., are not going to speak up against this rhetoric. I tried when I was a Christian and I was simply told to keep quiet.
"When are we going to stop trying to tell elected officials what to do. Our job is to spend the taxpayers' money the best way we can." -- Tommy Watkins, Justice of the Peace, Crawford County, Arkansas
I was raised a Catholic, and I know there are good Catholics, Christians, and people of all religions. It just absolutely infuriates me, however, when people use religion, the bible, with justifying hatred and bigotry of any sort.
there's not a congregant of his church who may end up being the President of the United States twenty years or so from now, General Jack? Someone who's working on his memoirs right now and extolling the virtues of his pastor and the wonderful influence he's having on him and his family.
I mean, ya just never know.
Obviously the next few Presidents for the next 20 to 50 years are going to be Christian. Every other religion doesn't hold a candle to the popularity of Christianity within the United States. There's no doubt that we won't have an atheist, or even Muslim, President until the distant future.
The point is to pick someone who's least likely to start World War III because his "God" told him it was a good idea. Interestingly, that person happens to most likely be a Democrat.
I mean, ya just never know.
I hope he is checking his foreskin to make sure your fingerprints are not all over it.
"I mean Romney is the most conservative on illegal immigration and I don't think Ronald Reagan could get elected in California today."
Ann "Clipped" Coulter
One day, one of these extreme right wing religious nuts does get into office and then really destroys the country. That's one reason I greatly dislike Palin. That's one reason why even though they may be an extreme minority, my fear is, with all of the talk out there coming from the likes of Beck and Limpballs, their numbers will grow.
I actually believe that some of these so-called "leaders" don't believe the bible crap, but they are extreme haters and racists. My belief is that a lot of what they do is for the money. But their followers likely do believe the religious crap.
I'm no expert....just some of my thoughts.
By the way, I think I've told this story on C&L before, but I grew up in a small town outside of St. Louis. The Catholic church in our neighborhood almost literally could be said to be one of the original pedophile churches.....before this made all of the national news.
One priest at the local parish refused to confirm my youngest sister simply because she would not give (my parents would not give) any money to the weekly collection in confirmation class. My parents would not give because my Dad was a teacher, raising 8 kids, and we gave money instead to a poor black parish we went to on Sundays, instead of the wealthy parish we "belonged" to.
That very priest who refused to confirm my sister turned out to be 1 of at least 2 pedophile priests at that wealthy parish.
That's one reason I have a great dislike and distrust of organized religion and especially cannot stand people who use religion to justify hatred or hide behind their religion and committ very sinful acts.
One of these right wing nutballs already DID "get into office" In fact a whole pile of them are IN OFFICE TODAY.
They have already run our nation off a cliff. We are bankrupt and at each other's throats.
The only way it could get worse is if outright revolt breaks out on the streets.
Which will most likely happen if they don't let everyone go to the doctors and get well.
You all have to read The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power by Jeff Sharlet. These people have infiltrated not only our government but governments around the world, at many levels. They have specialized for many decades in making deals with right-wing dictators.
As one reviewer wrote, don't read this book alone at night. It's fascinating but horrifying how many well-known public figures, senators, congresscreatures, presidents, and others are either members or "friends" of The Family.
on an earlier thread. I like to explain this as a difference in parenting styles. Good parents tell us to eat vegetables. Bad parents know veggies are a commie plot. At least that was my take:

Of course, these are the same people likely to be scouring libraries, school reading lists, and comic books to protect children from the dangerous and corrupting influences that words can have on their young minds.

We know the Dad is a 'good Christian' because he is a pastor. He is only trying to mold his daughter into his image, right?
I pledge allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America, and to the republic which it established, one nation from many peoples, promising liberty and justice for all
... wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute, W-WAIT A MINUTE!!
I fully expected all this to get brushed under a rug, but what was this? Is this some kind of elaborate prank or something being played on us? Or maybe it has to do with the position of the moon relative to the stars relative to the position of the planets. I have no idea.
But was that actual reporting that happened?
Not really no, it was pointing out the obvious. Reporting would of done some investigation.
I fell asleep after lunch with the tv on. I just awoke to hearing and seeing McCain holding a town hall meeting live on just about every cable channel. As I woke and heard his voice it was like going back in time to the months of the campaign. He's still saying much of the same shit and he's saying it the same irratating way. The audience seems to have all their Glenn Beck talking points down even to the bitching about ACORN. They are all raising hell about health care reform and from the looks of them I would bet that 95% of them are on medicaid. I haven't heard them complaining about that.
Then I came in here to my computer and listen to this POS. Yikes! I think I'll go back to sleep.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
*after* somthing violent happens and they blame lefty socialists!
have been asleep for the past 30 years. Stay awake!
When I woke up it was like I woke up to a nightmare. Some chick was asking McCain if he would protect her freedom. She didn't mention which one she thought was in danger. Then she went on to say that she heard the dems were going to overturn the constitution. McCain said he would fight to keep the dems from using reconciliation to get health reform through.
The old fart was exactly as we remember him on the campaign trail only now he screws up his words more and makes even more bizarre statements. Thank goodness he and Wainlin' Palin didn't win.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
God have mercy on us all if you were to do something stupid...
like activist work, joining a local group to support Public Health Care.
Oh hell no.
Go back to sleep.
It's vile hatred like this that is going to lead to violence. It always, without exception, does.
I sent the young man a letter in response and thus far, ten tries, it keeps coming back as "non-deliverable"...sure. His wife also runs their family blog and the rhetoric there is not much different in the comments section. A bunch hate-filled "christians"... Of course, I've tried commenting there several times but they have moderation so I have yet to see my comments which, by the way, are quite civil compared to the whole of their comment threads.
Make no motto of love that worships war
Excellent letter, Poetryman. Too bad it hasn't gone through.....keep trying, though.
It's just sad; it's pitiful; it's evil that such hate exists in this world.
Another sad thing about it.....I'm not sure, but it looks like this "pastor" has a couple of cute little kids who unfortunately will likely grow up to be just like him, filled with pure, unadulterated hate.
...that MSNBC used a graphic of Scientology's cross while playing the recording?
since the cross in Christianity represents Christ's suffering on the same. And I thought Scientology was based on aliens and shit.
But I looked it up and that's exactly what it is.
Well spotted, you! I hope it didn't cost you too much to be able to recognise that ;-)
me-oww!
Praise the lord and pass the ammunition.
So what else is new?
established by successful prosecutions in the wake of the Rwandan genocide have established that there is a link and it is punishable under law.
Shame the US dosen't recognise the international criminal court and (alone with Israel) vetos anything in NATO that would prove it's obvious war crimes .....
It will be no different for the people.
to begin redeeming himself with me, it is join the world court, as Sec.of State HRC has made mention of him considering..
BTW, for months now, Jesus' General has had an ongoing email war going with this clown. Some of it is hillarious, in the way that only the General can make it happen.
....... but the US is guilty of so much that they would never be out of there and would do their best to make a mockery of it to discredit it to the populous, as to diminish the cries of guilt that would come every day.
Much the same that the US has done with the UN (not NATO that I wrote above for some reason !) over the years, have to veto anything that points out the US's war crimes, then sell the lies about the UN to americans.
Same story different day, I can't see it ever happening.
I think Jesus' General has written to the good pastor and his flock on a couple of occasions.
"Pastor Anderson holds no college degree but has well over 100 chapters of the Bible committed to memory, including almost half of the New Testament."
Just exchange "Bible" with "Koran" and you have exactly what is said to be occuring in Pakistan and other places. What we see here is the beginnings of a Christian version of Al Qaeda. They are no different.
cain't read.
"I mean Romney is the most conservative on illegal immigration and I don't think Ronald Reagan could get elected in California today."
Ann "Clipped" Coulter
Funny thing is that if you EVER disagree with a christian, they call it "christian-bashing"!
You know, if they all just STFU and kept their busybody noses into their own business, we wouldn't have a problem... but then that wouldn't be very "christianlike" would it?
That so called "Church", should have it's tax-exempt status revoked immediatley.
Why else would he obsess over his hatred of gay people? He has self hatred issues- which he projects outwards at other gays-
Plus when he feels only hatred for himself- all he can feel for others is pure hatred...
Odds are he has had sex with other men- likely male escorts, and later wracked with shame- which he vented as hatred for all gays..
One day this guy is going to destroy himself...
He fits right in in the Christian hate/death cult..
Anderson's hatred of Obama is just an extension of his all consuming hate...
If it wasn't Obama, he'd be hating someone else....
Nowhere does this Christian cult leader encourage his sheep to do as Jesus would do, and strive for peace, help those in need and feed the hungry...
I respect Jesus and his teachings of peace, but I despise the cult built around him...
"Hate is more lasting than dislike."

"By the skillful and sustained use of propaganda, one can make a people see even heaven as hell or an extremely wretched life as paradise."

Preaching hate is a religion for these people. They will not stop at anything to keep preaching hate, the difference is that back in 30's it was directed against all people considered inferior. Wait..is still happening right now, they just hide behind religion or politics. Everyone is taught about WW2 and how evil the nazis were but they fail to include that the nazis greatest weapon was the use of propaganda. The MSM of today is using the same playbook of propagandizing the news because it catches the attention of the least intelligent.
they just moved to Amerikkka and changed their name to Bush
This hate-filled lunatic is certainly a mental product from family incest.
I wonder if we start limiting what people like this pastor can say, it will open the door to censorship and the loss of free speech rights for everyone?
Why do all msm news organizations, left and right, always mention the Southern Poverty Law Center? Why is the SPLC qualified to pass judgement on who is racist or who is a hate group?
Who is Kohlmann talking about that was threatening people with firearms? I haven't seen anyone doing that.
of that Pastor, at an internal border security checkpoint more than 100 miles from the border in Arizona, having the windows of his car smashed, being dragged out by border patrol, beat down bloodied and tasered, all because he asked under what law he was being detained and asked to get out of his vehicle? I will post a link to it if you cant find it.
I am truly amazed Mr. Kohlmann could say what he said at the end of his interview in this piece. I mean, I agree of course with his condemnation of the hateful, lunatic and violent preacher. There are simply too many of these- and such hate peddlers as Jerry Falwell, James Dobson and Pat Robertson have led the pack of violent bigots for decades now.
However, for him to pronounce that (in so many words)- to live in a culture of guns and violence- go to Iraq or Afghanistan, but you do not belong in the well-known land of peace and Christ-like kindness and "turning the other cheek" known as the U.S. of A. Boy- that surely took some gall, or perhaps kool-aid imbibing! This is, in fact, exactly the kind of xenophobic, exceptionalist mindset that Mr. Kohlmann is supposedly trying to discourage in the violence-inciting preacher.
If there is street and public violence in Iraq and Afghanistan (which is true, of course, due to the events of the past 9 years)- history behooves us to ask: what role did the unarmed, tranquil, peace-propagating U.S. of A. play to lead them to these dire straits? History's judgment, I might add, will not be kind in this regard.
...please crawl back under your rock, especially if these posts are the best you can do.
and I was shocked at his blithe recommendation that psycho Christians with bloodlust be sent to Iraq. If he is an expert on terrorism, he should know that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have become--for an astonishing number of troops, officers and chaplains--a crusade of Christians against Islam.
