Howie and I have been on the phones asking musicians to cancel any gig they have in Arizona. Some are contractually stuck, but some aren't, and this revenue will sorely be missed. (We didn't have anything to do with this cancellation) The outrage is slowly building, and in the end, money talks for these xenophobes.

BIG h/t to Cypress Hill for stepping up to the plate.

Rap veterans Cypress Hill have cancelled an upcoming concert in Arizona in protest of a new state immigration law.

Arizona lawmakers recently passed the SB1070 immigration bill, allowing officials to detain anyone they suspect to be an illegal alien.

The new ruling has infuriated a string of stars including Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am, and Cypress Hill have pledged their support to immigrants by scrapping their planned gig in Tucson on May 21st.

Explaining the move in a statement, the California-based Latin group says, "This decision was made in an effort to show support and solidarity with those, undocumented and otherwise, being directly affected by this unconstitutional law. Cypress Hill recognizes those living in the struggle for their basic civil rights."

Please support Cypress Hill, dog.

Most likely it's people and businesses that had NOTHING to do with the law and are most likely against it.

Yeah, this boycott is going viral!

I love it!

I can't see how AZ can continue if they don't pull the plug on this new law.

Let them serve as an example of what will happen if another state tries to pull this kind of crap.

The anti-SB1070 movement is growing. Keep up the momentum!

... but even if they do, never forget that they first passed it, and if they repeal it, it'll only be because of financial greed. It won't signify a change of heart. It's still a state with a bunch of fools in its state legislatre (and at least one fool in the US Senate). I shouldn't talk, though. I'm in Florida and we have a very wretched state legislature.

Please support Cypress Hill, dawg.*

Good for you John, I'm proud of you.

Unfortunately, I don't think these bands cancelling ie going to effect your typical 60+ year old pasty, fat, stupid tea bagging Fox news zombie.

Tourism backlash over immigration law could cost Arizona bond rating, tens of millions

If the state's revenue drops enough to force Moody's Investors Service to lower their bond rating, that 'typical 60+ year old pasty, fat, stupid tea bagging Fox news zombie', will have to pay more taxes, and have services cut.

They're hurting themselves and the venue employees, who just happen to be the border jumpers. Whoo hoo!

ashlee96's picture

Your an IDIOT!

The venue employees are not border jumpers, they are U S Citizens born and raised her who VOLUNTEER to work at the venues. They are NOT PAID employees. Get your facts straight.

Cypress Hill cancels concert - BIG F'ING DEAL, who the hell cares. The others who say they cancelled their concert due to SB1070 is a bunch of CRAP. The real reason they cancelled their concert is because of low ticket sales.

while im all for the arizona boycott, being embarrassed by growing up there my first 22 years, this show was something that was different. the show was going to take place at the rialto, a struggling privately owned theatre that has kept the music scene in tucson afloat. The owners of the rialto have been fighting this SB1070 since it came into existence. Here is a letter from the owners to cypress hill:

http://www.tucsonweekly.com/TheRange/archives...

surely this show would have brought thousands in, and surely its not their fault they live there. What SHOULD have happened was a much bigger and better event/protest featuring cypress hill. most of these people going to see them surely are against this law, and to disenfranchise them because they live in a state of crazies seems wrong. in the case of anything crazies love and general business, boycott the hell out of them.

tucsonjon's picture

You nailed it. The 60's were about protesting BY showing up. It would have been the
perfect opportunity and venue for Cypress Hill to address the issue. We have met the
enemy and it is NOT us.

been this kind of momentum with California's Prop 8 BS. But that was just the gays, so who the eff cares.

Just a little bitterness and jealousy here.

and remember how during that time Keith and Rachel (and others) covered how so many Hispanics in California supported "Yes on Prop 8."

I think all the towns and cities with a hotel, music venue, or convention center within 20 miles of the AZ border should put together a marketing campaign to draw all the travellers, bands, and conferences that were going to happen in AZ to them. It'd be great to literally see all the tax money and tourism squeeze out around the edges of the state.

I feel bad for the businesses in the state that have no stance on the new law, but will be hurting due to the boycotting of area businesses. Where are these business owners going to go for help when they go belly up over a law they may never have supported?

miss_kitty's picture

waaah waaah waaah!

mystag's picture

I just don't understand your comment there miss kitty. I thought I had a rational concern for people just trying to do business. Unlike us two political pirrahna, don't you think there are those out there that just don't care one way or another? Right or wrong, don't they deserve to live?

miss_kitty's picture

is touching.

What a bunch of leftard morons

Cypress Hill are a bunch of pussies. biggest cop out ever. how is not showing up showing ANY support? first off i live in tucson AZ. the bill really isnt that big of a deal. people are making it way bigger than it already is. legal's have every right to sue if they feel unjustified. how is that a low blow? everyone believe too much shit get you OWN opinion. people, u glue your brains to pixilated lies. fukin disgusts me.

anyways cypress hill are a bunch of pussies. if they had any CLUE and were really trying to "voice their opinion"(because thats what artists do right?) they would come to AZ and strait protest in person! NOT run for the hills. what good is that. they should of made a huge seen down here in az. WHAT good is them going to other concerts and saying "ya we didn't go to AZ cuz the new bill YAAAA!"..... people in those states dont care as much than down here. brainwashed dumbasses. go DO something cypress not just say fuck it and run from their fans who not only got them were they are today, but take heart in what cypress tells them. so much more could have been done if they came and voiced themselves..
