James Dobson out

James and Shirley Dobson call in to FRC Prayercast, December 2009

James Dobson was forced out of his leadership position by FOF.

Dobson is - was - THE leader of the religious right. They didn't come any badder than him. I remember a Republican friend telling me, only a few years back, that the GOP tended to think of the religious right as nutballs, other than Dobson. Dobson they feared.

Not any more.

A prominent friend and supporter of James Dobson believes Dobson was pushed aside by the new leadership of Focus on the Family, who want the powerhouse evangelical ministry to project a softer image on issues ranging from abortion to gay marriage to relations with President Obama.

"[T]the board of directors voted privately on Wednesday -- before we got there -- to ask for my resignation, although their request was made with kindness and respect. We can only guess the reason for their decision because frankly I don't fully know," Dobson said. "But it apparently has to do with the desire for closure on my tenure and the beginning of another."

The article goes on to quote our good friend, arch-homophobe Pastor Ken Hutcherson. You might remember Hutcherson from a few years back when we were both sparring over Microsoft's support for gay rights (I won).

This article substantiates everything Joe and I have been writing for the past year. The LEAD religious right group forces out the LEAD religious leader because he's too harsh on abortion and gay rights.

His legacy will live on only in a much kinder and softer version. They will use fluffy pillows to attack gay rights and the pro-choice community and the Villagers will be awed.

C&L Flashback. Evangelicals and Mormons don't really like each other very much except when they want to attack Liberals.

The first order of business was for Beck and Dobson to lovingly embrace each other like long lost lovers for the FOX followers because in late December Dobson was forced to take down a Beck article off his website because Glenn is part of the Mormon Cult. Pam has the story.

Dobson Caves to Evangelicals Who Call Glenn Beck a Cultist

Good times, good times. To dispel the so-called rumors of a rift between the two, Beck says he got a Christmas card from Dobson and oh, how they are so much in love.

Dobson: Boy Glenn, I have no idea where that came from. It's just goofy.

It came from his Christian followers. Ahhh, all is forgiven...Now to the meat of the segment. It's about a "moment of silence" law passed in Ill. back in '07 that was rejected by America's governor, (Blagojevich) but was still passed through his veto. Just another coded attempt at injecting religion into the public school system. A lawsuit was then filed:...read on

I see that sack's face, and after I regain my composure, I can't help but see an image of him and Pete Maravich playing some basketball, when, after JD asks Pistol how he feels, Pete replies he feels great then drops dead. You shouldn't get too close to these dangerous, anachronistic, coprophages.

Here is what the first link, which C&L pasted here, left out from the second link.

In February 2009, Dobson stepped down as chairman of the Colorado Springs-based group's board of directors, after relinquishing his longtime role as president in 2003. But he kept his role of host of the popular Focus radio show, which is reportedly heard by 1.5 million Americans each day.

Then, this past November, Dobson said on the show that the Focus board had asked him to give up the radio program in a few months time. Late last month, he delivered his final Focus broadcast.

In little-noticed comments from the November show, Dobson seemed troubled by the board's decision to ask him to give up the program.

Fundamentalist Christians will find mormon teachings quite odd to the point of being heresy. That is something I always found odd. Fundamentalist Christians hate non-believers but tolerate people who change their doctrine to the point that the mormons are in a since the same as non-believers.

James Dobson was not being as inclusive as Douglas Coe would like?

Don't worry though, his wife still serves breakfast.

The National Prayer Committee created a non-governmental organization called The National Day of Prayer Task Force, with the intended purpose of coordinating events specifically for evangelical Christians for the National Day of Prayer.

Based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, they work out of facilities from Focus on the Family, a Christian organization. Shirley Dobson (wife of Focus on the Family founder James Dobson) is currently at the head of the Task Force.

I don't think he understands THE FAMILY's world vision? ;)

The subject line "James Dobson out" was a little misleading. I was hoping he was "out" out...as in "someone 'outed' him." That would be FABULOUS!

ricky's picture

Apparently the source of this "new" story is the Reverend Ken Hutcherson, who wrote a column in WorldNet Daily. Why would this homophobic minister want to stir up this controversy over something that happened in 2009?

"What was in the mind of the current Focus president when this decision was made? He certainly was part of the process.

To be perfectly honest, what Focus should have done is give someone like me the leadership over the ministry."

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pag...

"To Hutcherson, another example of Focus' new approach is its Super Bowl ad featuring Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow. The ad was expected to feature a direct anti-abortion message, but ended up merely telling viewers to "celebrate life."
"I mean, what did it say?" asks Hutcherson. "You gonna spend $2.5 million to say what?"

and I considered myself Christian until I was in my late teens. It's not that I don't think Jesus wasn't one of most important philosophers who ever walked the face of the Earth, because I DO believe that.

But in all my years of going to church I never heard such garbage in a prayer. Let's not forget these are Christians talking about other Christians here. They are making POLITICAL statements. At the very least they should be taxed.

But this is what we all have to deal with. It's our own version of the Taliban, living right next door. Where is Jesus' message of love and peace? These people will never look into their own souls. They can only see the sin of others. They can only see their own self-righteous delusions.

Jesus said let those who are free from sin cast the first stone. All these people have are stones, and they can't seem to realize if heaven actually does exist, they are making it very difficult to get a ticket.

Taarak's picture

You appear to be a rational and thoughtful person. Those who are throwing the biggest stones are not. That's the difference. Not to worry though, in their world Heaven exists solely for them.

Shadowgm's picture

Raised Catholic, but had a good taste of racial prejudice even in a parochial school.

The New Testament repeats the lesson of 'let he who is without sin cast the first stone' in different words, most notably the Sermon on the Mount, when Jesus tells us to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Love thy neighbor as thyself. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Later, we are told, 'judge not, lest ye be judged and in the same measure." To me, that's not that you can't offer an opinion about right and wrong, but it warns you that the judgment you levy here, in life, will be met by God's own ... in the same measure. If you are forgiving of another's transgressions, if you temper your anger with mercy and fairness, then it shall be shown to you.

If you are constantly handing out damnation and exclusion, how is it that you expect God to show mercy and forgiveness when you didn't even try to do the same?

Truth_Critic's picture

True Christians should not ask if the bible is moral, or if God is moral. If God is the source of morality, then asking if God is moral is like asking if goodness is good. To ask seriously if God or the bible is moral (with a possible negative answer) is to assume that "moral" means something apart from God, and that we already know what it means independently of the bible.

If the word "moral" has meaning by itself, then right and wrong can be understood apart from God, and judging the morality of God puts him under the jurisdiction of a higher level of criticism. This is true even if the judgment is favorable. To the believer, questioning the morality of God is blasphemy. It implies that the "supreme judge" can be judged. --Dan Barker

Jesus himself calls them hypocrites, those who indulge in public prayer.

Matthew 6:

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

They call themselves "Christians" ..

But they don't even follow his teachings ..

... about worldly goods and wealth. He chides the wealthy man who makes an offering amid fanfare, praising instead the poor woman who offers a pittance of her own limited coin.

Time and again, we are told how wealth becomes a thing unto its own - it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven. That to enter the Kingdom of God, we must be like children as well as surrender all that we have to follow Christ. (Which may not be 'give up all your worldly goods' but giving up those material things and attachments which keep us from following God.)

I wonder how many of this guy's followers know that his PhD is not in theology? I had to educate my younger brother. He and his wife were shocked. They had sent me some of his drivel which I promptly shot back to them. I told them that his PhD is in child psychology and not in any religious study. At first they didn't believe me. Then they checked it out themselves. They were pissed. At him.

Progressives are having an impact, even with social right-wingers.

While I don't expect them to be embracing gays anytime soon, the type of blatant gay-baiting that people like Dobson have made a career out of is, I think, becoming less socially acceptable.

I was only a couple of generations ago that blacks and whites wouldn't even sit in the same churches together. Now they do, especially in theologically conservative churches.

I think things are changing...slowly.

Gee , I'm so sorry .

Insanity , it is what it is , there is no understanding it .

What I say here is found in books that anyone can find on the Internet (www.amazon.com or www.bn.com) or rare bookstores. Do you realize that many women (and especially Obama) are supporting a group whose founder spoke highly of the Nazis' practices and teachings in the 1930s and 1940s, and who wrote books with racists wordings and ugly eugenics practices, such as getting rid of those kids who were deformed or had genetic problems?

What group and founder are I talking about? Let me give you some idea what this founder wrote in her books (yes, she is a woman). This female founder refers to people who are epileptics, feeble-minded, blind, deaf, mute, etc. as:

--> "...this dead weight of human waste..." that is "...the terrific cost to the community..."

This female says, "'Constructive' Eugenics...shows us that we are paying for and even submitting to the dictates of an ever increasing, unceasingly spawning class of human beings who never should have been born at all..."

Lovely, isn't it?

And then she refers to these problem people this way:

--> "Every single case of inherited defect, every malformed child, every congenitally tainted human being brought into this world is of infinite importance to that poor individual; but it is of scarcely less importance to the rest of us and to all of our children who must pay in one way or another for these biological and racial mistakes."

She also said that large families should kill some of their children so as to save "resources" for others.

How about this idea which is similar to the Nazis' propaganda during the 1930s?

--> "On its scientific side, Eugenics suggest the reestablishment of the balance between the fertility of the "fit" and the "unfit." "

In one of her publications, a magazine review, persons sympathetic to the Nazis' practices and even German Nazis themselves wrote articles for her. In other documents, she refers to the supremacy of the white race over the other races. Isn't great that she wrote side-by-side with those Nazis?

What are these books and materials to which I refer?

"The Pivot of Civilization"

"Woman and the New Race"

"The Birth Control Review"

Who is the author of this trash?
Who is this supporter of the Nazi eugenic practices?

MARGARET SANGER
Founder of PLANNED PARENTHOOD

Do people think that Jewish women are blind to Margaret Sanger's promotion of racial eugenics? Let me quote something from her that both she and Planned Parenthood standby:

--> "By education, by persuasion, by appeals to racial ethics and religious motives, the ardent Eugenicist hopes to increase the fertility of the "fit." "

Planned Parenthood refers to her as a Woman of Valor. Do you like that term? Not all of us Jewish women are now blind to what Planned Parenthood is doing to women all over the world. Are you?

AND note also that the Gay / Lesbian Groups ALL support Planned Parenthood WITHOUT any reservations also!

a Jewish woman who was deceived and attacked by Planned Parenthood and who also lost relatives in the Holocaust, thanks to Margaret Sanger

++++++++++++++++

Just a fraction of the things recorded on what Obama has done FOR Planned Parenthood. There are people who saw him speaking at these times who told us about his ardent support for Planned Parenthoold:
