Tell us your thoughts.

Here's some transcripts:

Here are the details that every American needs to know about this plan: First, if you are among the hundreds of millions of Americans who already have health insurance through your job, Medicare, Medicaid, or the VA, nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have. Let me repeat this: nothing in our plan requires you to change what you have. What this plan will do is to make the insurance you have work better for you. Under this plan, it will be against the law for insurance companies to deny you coverage because of a pre-existing condition. As soon as I sign this bill, it will be against the law for insurance companies to drop your coverage when you get sick or water it down when you need it most. They will no longer be able to place some arbitrary cap on the amount of coverage you can receive in a given year or a lifetime.

We will place a limit on how much you can be charged for out-of-pocket expenses, because in the United States of America, no one should go broke because they get sick. And insurance companies will be required to cover, with no extra charge, routine checkups and preventive care, like mammograms and colonoscopies – because there’s no reason we shouldn’t be catching diseases like breast cancer and colon cancer before they get worse. That makes sense, it saves money, and it saves lives. That’s what Americans who have health insurance can expect from this plan – more security and stability.

Now, if you’re one of the tens of millions of Americans who don’t currently have health insurance, the second part of this plan will finally offer you quality, affordable choices. If you lose your job or change your job, you will be able to get coverage. If you strike out on your own and start a small business, you will be able to get coverage. We will do this by creating a new insurance exchange – a marketplace where individuals and small businesses will be able to shop for health insurance at competitive prices. Insurance companies will have an incentive to participate in this exchange because it lets them compete for millions of new customers. As one big group, these customers will have greater leverage to bargain with the insurance companies for better prices and quality coverage. This is how large companies and government employees get affordable insurance. It’s how everyone in this Congress gets affordable insurance. And it’s time to give every American the same opportunity that we’ve given ourselves.

Essentially you are calling him an "Uncle Tom" or a "House ******"

You can make your point without resorting to stereotypes. You can say he is selling out the progressives or whatever.

This type of discourse is not necessary and is counter-productive. It hardly encourages an honest discussion of the issues does it?

Stephen Foster's Camp Town Races some sort of race song? Just asking.

Alice X - Chomsky Nader's picture

The song 'Camptown Races" is by Stephen Foster and that is the end of each verse.

Although what I was tagging is not the original lyric, but that is what it is from.

It is Americana and Stephen Foster is a major part.

I have absolutely no concern of anyone's 'race' and I object whenever anyone brings up Obama's heritage.

But I will complain about his politics day and night.

But the implications are there.

Why else would Mel Brooks make fun of it in "Blazing Saddles"?

There is much about Americana that is subject to humor.

We have just had the greatest heist in the history of the world.

Between the Fed and Treasury there has been $12.8 trillion spent.

Obama received huge contributions from the Corporations.

He is their guy.

Doesn't mean I have to like it. But one wonders if that particular song would have been chosen if GW Bush was still President. That is my point.

Haven't we? Another subject, another day. But you miss my point, I think. But my guess is, no, that would not have been a song that was chosen.

P.S. One additional point. I notice that "Liberal And Proud" who made the original comment never bothered to weigh in on the issue. Sad for that. Thanks for your input though.

Yes the poster may be a racist dummy, but, though I kinda get the gist of the post, I don't see the racism.

Old_Ed_inVN

Glad that the racist thing about the song has about died. Travellin about the world I see racism in every country I stumble into. Sorry America, we dint invent it, we jest dint grow out of it. So much for the shining lite on da hill that all should emulate. Yep, the world should copy our hate. Damn, seems that half of America wants an American Hitler.

Old_Ed_inVN

I agree, the racist thing si everywhere. I've seen it firsthand. In America, because you had slavery, it's still going to be a long time healing, (I think). People do not easily forget past injustices to the collective soul.

I'm uncomfortable with the malpractice reform aspect, since that seems to undercut one's right to courts and justice. However, although malpractice payouts have been flat for fifteen years, it's my understanding that there's still a high cost involving malpractices cases that never go to court, and are somehow settled before then. Even if there's no hush-hush payout, the machinery is probably expensive.

And I would think one of the first malpractice concerns is looking for a way to lower malpractice insurance for doctors, and to remove the incompetent. Right now a doctor can lose his medical license in one state or region, and simply move to another state or region, take whatever licensing exams they require, and start all over again. There really is no tracking system.

And when Obama was talking about health care nightmare stories I would've wished he included Natalee Sarkisian, a 17 year old who died because her insurance provider Cigna called her liver transplant "experimental," and only after howls of protest from protesters changed their minds, but just two hours before she died. However, that's probably in the courts right now, and any comment from a sitting president would likely be considered tainting the case.

"Then again, some of the blame has to go to all of us. It's more than a little conspicuous that the same electorate that poured its heart out last year for the Hallmark-card story line of the Obama campaign has not been seen much in this health care debate. The handful of legislators — the Weiners, Kuciniches, Wydens and Sanderses — who are fighting for something real should be doing so with armies at their back. Instead, all the noise is being made on the other side. Not so stupid after all — they, at least, understand that politics is a fight that does not end with the wearing of a T-shirt in November."
