MSNBC reports Bart Stupak is a "Yes" Vote: UPDATE: Stupak presser at 4PM
MSNBC is reporting that Stupak is now voting "yes" for HCR. Baird and Giffords are also reportedly "yes" votes as well.
CSPAN reported on MSNBC's report just a few moments later.
Information on why he switched his vote is slowly coming out. It appears that he was promised an Executive Order from Obama upholding the Hyde Amendment.
What did Dems give up for his yes vote if anything? Or, did he flip because he saw the writing on the wall and felt threatened by Connie's challenge?
Here's a little more:
MSNBC's Mike Viqueira: "Many of these Democratic leaders are now ensconced in Speaker Pelosi's office. They think they have an agreement with Bart Stupak. Remember, he was here at the White House very late last night trying to work out language for an executive order to clarify and affirm the president's position with regard to abortion language... They think they have the Stupak 8
But can this language go too far for the pro-choice members of the house to sign off on?
UPDATE: Bart Stupak is holding his presser at 4 PM EST.

...in a few minutes.

The lady on C-span said the final vote might come as late as five or six tonight or maybe later. What will they be doing from now to then. There are only three important votes, right?
I don't think any dem wants to be the one to kill this bill at this point so maybe they helped Stupak find a way to vote so he doesn't look like the spotlight grabber he as been for nothing. There will be other votes in the future and they'll need his vote then as well. This may not be pretty but it's the ending that counts.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
...for the correction. They keep voting on votes to open/close debate on the bill.
No wonder it's taking so long.

The lady on c-span said this voting is called "whipping in". Just votes to kill time until all the reps are in the house. Wait until this gets to the senate and if Cornyn is correct, the republicans senators start trying to add their "hundreds" of amendments.

until I see the vote tally that verifies it. As pig-headed as he is, I'm sure he will try to defeat the bill until the very last moment because he is, after all, GOD, or, at the very least, Jesus's proxy on Earth.
Whassa difference between a proxy and a prostie?

Stupak never really had a leg to stand on in claiming the bill would fund abortion.
He objected to the government providing financial assistance to people who might buy insurance from insurers who cover abortion, even if the person receiving aid doesn't buy it.

Bottom line, he wants the future support of all those right wing groups like focus on family etc. I imagine they make nice campaign donations to candidates and have in the past.

conservative religous groups, but I see a larger picture. I think his primary challenger just nailed support from all across the country from outraged women's groups and progressive Christian groups. This was "C" Street grandstanding. Hopefully, he will be gone after November. I don't care what office he holds in his state, but let's rid ourselves of him nationally.
Just a little while ago c-span showed a rather large gathering of people in DC wearing black shirts that said, "Catholics for Healthcare". He's pissed off all kinds of people.

Looks like today is going to be a good day.

According to a post at Kos, Stupak is saying he is still a "no". He says they are working on something.

...over at The New York Times online says this, too:
2:00 P.M. ET Don’t Believe the Blogs (Except This One!) — David M. Herszenhorn
Despite swirling rumors to the contrary, Representative Bart Stupak, Democrat of Michigan and a leader of anti-abortion Democrats in the House, is still a “no” vote on the health care legislation, according to his spokeswoman, Michelle Begnoche.
Mr. Stupak told reporters on Sunday that he believes a deal on the abortion issue is imminent, which would mean he would potentially vote in favor of the bill.
But senior House Democratic aides and White House officials confirmed that a deal has not yet been clinched with the abortion opponents.
“There is not yet a deal, and Congressman Stupak is still a NO vote right now,” Ms. Begnoche said in an e-mail at 1:48 p.m. ET.
i always figured i was pretty smart, i do test above average, but i would like to say that a lot of the bloggers here are pretty danged smart, it is really good to hear from people who will say what they mean.
i say pass the stinkin' bill, it is not single payer, it hands control to the I.R.S. there are a lot of things seriously wrong with it. i am not saying this because it looks like it will pass, NoBuddy convinced me last night.
there is no point in running over every issue again, i just think our current account balance is the real issue facing our country.
we have to get an industrial base in this country again, until we have a positive trade balance , we will inevitably go broke.
so, let's get what we can, anyone who pays attention to me knows i say what i mean, whether i take heat or not.
i and my employer will still pay >$12,000 to blue cross per year, and if i get really sick, i will still be financially ruined, as total yearly liability can be as high as $11,500 dollars, even after paying all those premiums; single payer would have fixed this, but that is not happening.
so once again, pass the bill, at least the issue is on the table, some people will probably be helped.
With caps on insurers' administrative overhead and profits, with health exchanges that both spur competition and arbitrate rate increases and, in the separate bill that withdraws the anti-trust exemptions for the insurers, those insurers will be motivated to advocate for lower costs from the hospitals and doctors (i.e. $7.50/tablet of Advil).
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
i hate to agree with anything i guess, you fight for so long; you get so used to living through shit since reagan, it is hard to trust anything. check that, living through shit since the sixties, jfk, rfk, mlk, going down - you could go on and on - medgar evers - saw on the news, today is the anniversary of the pettus bridge march.
it's ptsd i tell ya.
check the pettus bridge thing, it was this month.
today is the day of the third attempt to get across the edmund pettus bridge, when the marchers finally got across.
there is a teabagger thread somewhere, maybe this should be there, but i swear, do people have no appreciation of the crap people went through? i mean couldn't they at least admire them for their guts?

But I won't believe that he or Stupak are yesses until they actually yay the fucking thing.
Doesn't really matter though. I am thoroughly disgusted with Costa, as he's shown that like Stupak he is willing to let his Catholicism be more important than his obligation to his female constituents, and his obligation to his constituents who are coping with illnesses or who are uninsured.
