Americans United for Change just put out a new ad. The Republican tactic to stall the bill is their idea on how to destroy it. The ad is quite good and falls in line with what I've been saying. To stall the bill is an attempt to kill the bill. Say No to the August Recess if Congress can't get their act together. I've been contacting the Senate for quotes to see if they will forego their vacation to work on health care.

The Republicans claim the health insurance reform debate has been moving at lightning speed.

In fact for 15 years, it’s hardly moved at all.

Now the Republicans say Congress should slow down?

Meanwhile premiums have gone up 3 times faster than wages, health insurance profits have soared and 14,000 Americans lose their health insurance everyday.

Now the Republicans say Congress should slow down?

That’s because when something goes slow enough it’s easy to kill it dead in its tracks.

Tell Congress you want health insurance reform NOW.

Call your representative at (202) 225-3121.

Please donate to Blue America's Campaign For Health Care Choice.

We're working on our next move and will need your help.

Tell them we won't stand for just any legislation. We need reform that includes a strong public option. Tell them if they can't do that, don't pass anything. Otherwise, we'll get legislation that mandates folks buy private insurance ( with or without a subsidy). That will only serve to give the insurance companies 47 million more customers.

liberalNmoderation's picture

We need reform that includes strong public option at LEAST...and SINGLE PAYER needs to be on the table.
I could care less if the health insurance companies go out of business.
Bunch of smarmy blood sucking leeches.
I remember talking to my grandfather one time, and he said when he was growing up, there was no such thing as insurance...of ANY kind...until the Great Depression.

The health insurance industry and those who work in it are parasites.

All those nice people who answer the phones are Americans screwing their fellow citizens, and making money doing it.

When I got laid off, I could have worked for an insurance company: I CHOSE NOT TO.

I don't care if they lose their jobs. They are bad Americans. We don't hear enough about those people who make a living by denying health care to their fellow human beings.

or health insurance. The Insurance Company of North America (INA) was founded in 1792 - originally providing insurance for shipping and then fire insurance for homeowners in Philadelphia. INA merged with Connecticut General in 1982 to make the company we 'know and love' today as CIGNA.

Actually, insurance is sort of a form of socialism - people pooling their funds to share the risk of a disaster/emergency. The concept is a good one; the way it's practiced today is unconscionable.

on the Hill. Otherwise your screwed.

If 47 Million uninsured Americans chipped in $5 bucks a piece into a pool and did some serious lobbying then ya'd get serious attention.

...is the wrong message. Repugnicants aren't the issue; Democrats are. The bill that came out of the senate today is worse than useless, it gives insurance and big pharma a huge gift. I'm at the point where I think they should pack the whole fucking idea in and try again if they can get more progressives in place the next time around.

At this point, Obama seems happy to take anything that congress sends him so he can check health care reform off his "to do" list. Unfortunately, it will likely end up like the "so called" medicare reform we got a few years ago. Look how well that turned out.

Evet's picture

please the masses with nice talk but in Washington, money, not sweet talk, rules the day.

savannah43's picture

is what we'll get : Mandatory coverage paid for by you, including drug coverage. That would be with no caps on cost for the premiums, no caps on co-pays, widening the donut hole in the drug coverage (like now, only after the "reform," they pay 80% of the first $1500.00, you pay the next $7000.00 out of your pocket, and they might pay 20% of your remaining drug costs for the year, but only if they feel like it). But in spite of the mandatory purchase of the insurance, there will be a life-time cap on the benefits you can receive. Once you meet this threshold, you must continue to pay for coverage, even though you will not get any. This is the cost of living in a civilized society. Suck it up.

'health insurance reform'.....I want legislation that will put a single-payer medicare plan in place for ALL US citizens...period.

That's what I tell my reps on a regular basis ----not that they care.
If anyone in Congress or any of the administrations in recent years actually Cared about the health and welfare of Americans, we'd already have health care for everyone.

It should now be clear >> Crystal Clear > that our government works for only for the elitists and corpora-fascists.

like others have said, the problem we should be addressing is the corporate-whoring democrats, like maximus corruptus baucus.

we should stop pretending this is a dem v rep fight

FilthyHarry's picture

passing legislation isn't the same as getting what we want and so desperately need.

Given the evidence of the benefits of single-payer along with the fact that we're currently paying the most for healthcare but are getting no where near the best healthcare, I've no interest in any "health reform" unless its single-payer.

How about passing legislation that states if you received campaign contributions totaling more than say $100K from a particular corporate lobby you may not sit on any committee that makes decisions regarding same. So if you get big cash from big pharma you don't sit on a health care related committee. Ya know what make it 50K.

savannah43's picture

So who puts this in place? Those who would put this in place? Those who take the money. Catch-22.

By the time you know what they have cut from benefits and what type of drugs you are able to receive , you will than see

After republicans , blue dogs and centrists have shredded benefits for the actually American citizens and cutting $150 million from Medicare you and I which will be FORCED to buy this pile of crap.

So the Global Health industry has again paid for their demands to the republicans and democrats which seen not to give a s... about our wishes and well being..

Just as the democrats have done previously , they run off at the mouth to deceive Americans into believing they are concern and working for Americans , but always at the 11 th hour pass the policies demand from the millions of dollars from lobbyist of the Global Empires..

The democrats did the same thing about the Illegal invasion of Iraq , The illegal spying , treason , torture , corrupted no bid war contracts , the rape - killing of innocent civilians , the corruption in their thief of our tax dollars on their contracts , the criminal destruction to our economy by the Banking Empire , passing the free trade bill which gave Corporations not only the tools to outsource their manufacturing overseas -- but paid them to do it.. Now when they have pushed American to the lowest deep in this country's history they are still kicking us while we are down and out by placing a mandatory health bill which was written by the health company and the profits are for the health and drug institutions.

Why do you believe they are given American the outline with no details to what they have created behind closed doors with the health CEO's and lobbyist..

Make no mistake about it when they are receiving thousands and millions of dollars IT IS ABOUT THE MONEY...

The democrat party now has as many elitist and very wealthy persons which are making money on the backs of the working class and seniors..

As much as I dislike what Ralph Nader's has said and done in the past , I now believe his message that THERE IS NO LONGER A DIFFERENCE between the republicans and the democrats except their BS and deceit they give us..

Also all of our elected officials , economist , heads of the treasure department stated they did not see this economy disaster coming. I read a magazine that was published by laRouche another person which I believe was full of it... Yet his magazine published in January of 2008 stated that there was an economy disaster already taking place and if not taken care of then it would be the biggest economical disaster in our history..

If these people for saw these events and disasters why are we paying the elected officials in office to dig our hole deeper and to last longer...

We have become sheep and as long as we have the internet to bitch ,, which solves none of our problems , the hole will be straight thru to CHINA and India...

None

but i don't

i want healthcare reform... not health insurance reform. we need a systemic change in our healthcare, not just fiddling around the edge. and, soul crushingly, it seems that the political class and the corporate class have found the perfect formula to label this compromise as "change", yet not jeopardize the cash-hose they have been drinking on.

this is a wonderfully depressing example of the failure of democracy in america

Insurance reform means nothing. Don't people understand that insurance is organized crime? Please don't be confused by anything that isn't a government run health care option.
We want a single payer, government run medical program just like what the congress gets. There is no option, and there is no problem.
Let's try to be a part of the solution, and not lead to more confusion about the nonsense being blown out of a million sphincters touting the word "insurance". If it ends up having anything to do with insurance, it will be worthless.
Does no one understand why the US ranks so low in world productivity? It is because we pay for health care. We are the laughing stocks of the entire world, yet what, 1 in 50 realizes it?
