(I was going to write this last week, but I had a family emergency).

Why does Rep. John Boehner hate the DMV and postal workers so much? Jon Stewart catches him attacking them in his effort to smear any health care reform. it starts at the 3:15 mark of the video.

Boehner: If you like going to the DMV and think they do a great job or you like going to the post office and think it's the most efficient thing you've run into to then you'll love the government run health care system.

Stewart: If you like the military protecting the country or doctors helping veterans you'll love this new government plan. By the way, why are you bagging on the post office. For forty four cents, someone comes to your house, picks up some piece of crap you wrote and takes it to Wyoming on a plane, but give me another talking point.

Gee, I never waited an hour in a doctor's office, sifting through two year old magazines just to get him to spend five minutes with me. That's the ticket. What an efficient system our current health care system is.

If I worked at the DMV or for the Post Office I'd put his picture up on the wall and say, "If we're so bad, You're Not Welcome here," and then refuse to service him. Really, what a fool and how demeaning to all the people that work there. If you work for the DMV or post office, give a shout out to Boehner's office.

dmv now has appointments....get in, and get out

usps is technically only semi gov run, and it also has improved as tech has

i havent waited in line at the post office in years

im so sick of these gov employees who hate the gov

resign, return all the money you made off of the taxpayers, and decline your congressional pension and health care package

wingnut fuck

but I think that you got it.

Or does that sound too Rushy?

Bonerhead is more than happy to take from the taxpayers when it suits him but when it comes to giving credit for doing something right---well fuck that, pal. We're the GOP---the party of blame and scapegoating, not ideas.

Uncle Joe is right Bonerhead---you don't like the government---give back what you took from us and get the hell out of public service. Take your judgment and criticism and shove it.

I was in and out of the DMV in 20 minutes last time I renewed my license. Easy peasy.

The post office works for me, too. A guy comes to my house six days a week and brings me my mail and takes my outgoing mail.

My Doctor's office??? HAHAHAHHAHA... An appointment there is like the rental car reservation on Seinfeld... you know. "Well what is the point of an appointment if you're going to make we wait an hour and fifteen minutes past the appointment time?"

The Emergency Room??? HAHAHAHAHAHA... I held my feverish son in my arms for four hours once before we saw a doctor.

My Private Insurance Company??? HAHAHAHAHAHA... try calling them about a claim or a bill and see how long you're on hold.

Gimme a fucking break.

DMV

Since the DMV in CA went to a numbers system, it's very efficient. I haven't waited more that 15-20 minutes for anything. I get my mail everyday, so where's the beef?
Now, as far as my healthcare goes, doctors double-book all the time. I left a urologist, who was a good doctor, but I never got to see him on-time. It was always 30 or more beyond my appointment time. Another doctor told me it was because of double-booking.
I had a terrible dentist who gave me a crown that came off. He would sit me in the chair on-time, but work with other patients at the same time. He'd start on me, but I may not see him for 30 minutes at a time.
Give me back my military or VA hospital insurance.

You want an example of failed government? The US CONGRESS would be my number one choice.

Hah, nice. Yes, our legislature isn't the "most efficient thing I've run into" in terms of actually representing its constituents, considering 85% want fundamental reform.

I just dialed 202-225-6205 and repeated the above inquiry. The assistant ended the call pretty quickly without answering the question. I didn't even have a chance to hear some wacky right-wing talking points! :L

They think it's funny to attack working people.

Somebody at the Ohio DMV could 'accidentally' suspend his driver license... being that they are sooo incompetent and inefficient and all that stuff.

I was in the DMV yesterday in NY(not the city). And it was absurdly efficient.

Post office works well to, you go there, participate in the human activity of standing in line for a minute or two and you mail something or buy stamps. big fucking deal.

Believe me, the place has lots of incredibly hard working craft people burdened by the absurd demands of management. They way the place is run it's amazing anyone gets their mail. Give us half way decent management and the cost of postage would go down. Right now, there are 4 management people for every person who actually touches the mail. The amount of stress put on craft is criminal.

He's better than they are and he knows it.
Just about anyone who doesn't fall into his 'PLU' (People Like Us) coverage, is a thoughtlessly slagged-off target.

to actually work for us.

Waiting 20 minutes in line @ the DMV or the post office pales in comparison.

Oh, and the reason why any public service tends to suck... it is usually due in no small measure by the perennial budget cuts heralded by the equally perennial tax cuts brought by the republicans.

Besides, Boener is a public employee... so he admitting that public services don't work is akin to admit his responsibility in the matter. Right?

Where else can you mail a letter for $0.44 and have it delivered anywhere in the US in a few days? UPS and FEDEX do not deliver to every place in the US, but USPS does. And the other carriers cost far more than USPS. Not bad.

I didn't mean to attack the foreigners in the DMV, I was drunk. I was drinking with Jesus. Jesus is a drunk and he made me do it(Jesus is a wine bibbler and republican).
As for the post office I'm sorry too. My office is a scam, not yours. I drink and party with my assistants wife. I can't vote for shit.Congress is a bunch of crap. But I'm a republicant so I don't mean me. But I drink alot. And I tan-out at a slut-salon. You do that in my government job.
I didn't mean any of that shit. I was just trying to keep my lobby money. My wife is a jack-Christian. I don't believe in that shit either but if it works, like it did for Nixon, I'm a quacker/moron too. That's a good religion. But I believe more in the devil than I do God, you have to if you're a jack-Christian, so I do. But I was drunk. So I'll cry now. Wanna drink? How about some money to shut the fuck up? I want to go to the DMV and vote drunk for them. Mail them a letter from the post office. Lick the stamp. Do you wanna drink? I'll cry...if it works....But I'm drunk. I didn't say anything. Praise Jesus! Or anybody else I can blame.
John Boner/Boehner

LOL

He's a quacker all right. And that orange skin comes from jaundice of the soul.

Mai Tai's?

The American postal service is the best run in the world. There may be lines if you are waiting at the post office, particularly at holiday season, but it gets letters to their recipients faster and more reliably than any other postal service in the world.

As a postie albeit a Canadian one I have heard all the jokes/smears etc. regarding postal workers.... walk a mile or five or ten in my shoes buddy..

Personally, I love the post office/post offices. I am Canadian and ours is just dandy. I've used them all over the world and think they are magic. I just drop any old thing I want into a box, and days later my loved ones get it. An expat dream.

You Canadian postal workers always get my Xmas cards from Korea to my family and friends on time.

I have never had to wait in any of the hundreds I have visted in many countries.

PS last time I renewed my Driver's Licence, in Canada, it took about 15 minutes. Not bad; line moved very quickly.

We use Registry Offices here. They do DMV testing, licensing, registration, postal services, land title and corporate registry searches, etc. I remember standing in line years ago at the DMV and this is a definite improvement in service.

That's "new-fangled" Western stuff.

We have different offices for each. Your Registry system is a bit different too. I used to title search in Ontario. We use older British-style systems.

It's much more efficient now. The Registries are all over the city and postal outlets are in many local drugstores and malls. Very convenient.

)O(

What does John Boehner have against DMV and Postal Workers?

Lines?

btw, I couldn't find it at The Comedy Network either.

I did, however, watch a 10-minute clip of the June 25 show. It was hilarious!

It's good to tout the positive qualities of government agencies like the Post Office, but it's even more effective to remind people of how painful it is to deal with megacorporations. Is it really such a joy to deal with your health insurance company? How about Verizon, or AT&T, or any of the other megacorps-- we all have horror stories. I think every time someone complains about government red tape, they need to be reminded of corporate red tape.

Most DMV and Postal Workers are not rich and powerful like me, therefore are barely human...John Boehner. I hope any of them that have voted Republican in the past see how their Reps really feel about them.

First of all, Boehner has franking priviliges. He gets free postage. I doubt that he has on any occasion even entered a post office in years, let alone waited in a line with letters or packages in his hands.

Last time I checked the DMV in California was a STATE RUN system, not federal.

What an idiot.

And, in most states, the DMV work is handled by an outsourced private company.

Ok, Boehny, we'll go ahead and use your standard to decide which is the better system.

Last ten times I went to the post office I waited in line for maybe 20 minutes cumulatively (it's a busy post office in a college town, and I always go at lunch or the end of the day). I can see from my couch right now four boxes delivered on time and in good condition from halfway across the country by that system for a few bucks each. I've had literally tens of thousands of dollars of goods delivered by them over the past few years and they have NEVER ONCE failed to deliver anything, or damaged it in transit.

They will also deliver--in one piece and in a timely fashion--fragile goods to and from Japan for me, for a reasonable cost.

My area has one DMV office with about five tellers serving ~100K people, and the waits there range from a couple of minutes to maybe fifteen for the most part, and their triage system works well. The one time I had to deal with an error (half my fault, half theirs), they were considerate and very reasonable.

Let's contrast that to my PRIVATE insurance and PRIVATE healthcare office. In my last 10 visits I have cumulatively waited easily a couple of hours, and have on occasion sat in the waiting room for an hour for a single 5-minute visit. And that PRIVATE insurance company? Took them TWO AND A HALF YEARS of phone calls to tell me that they wouldn't pay a claim for a test that "wasn't necessary." I have written record of approximately 25 calls over the last two years to deal with the insurance claims for ONE HOSPITALIZATION, and each call included as much as 45 minutes of waiting on hold, and another 10 of re-explaining the same problem yet again. I'd conservatively estimate 12 hours of attempting to deal with THEIR mistake.

So, we'll just go with Bohner's metric then. I'm waiting for my public healthcare now! Oh, wait, you thought private insurance was run BETTER than the USPS? Guess he's never had to deal with either, so he wouldn't know.

If the post office were run the same way I'd wait in line maybe 4 times as long, and they would lose approximately 10% of the mail I sent with them, then blame it on me because I boxed it wrong and charge me a fee for it. Another 10% of the mail would get delivered to the wrong person at which point the USPS would deny every having handled the package at all. The delivery notification I paid for would confirm delivery 50% of the time the package did not get there, and would never show up a quarter of the time the package did get delivered.

The DMV, meanwhile, would occasionally un-register your car for no apparent reason, would incorrectly determine that, say, 5% of applicants for a license had a drunk driving record and therefore were not eligible for a license. On occasion you would come home to discover your car has been impounded because it was reported "stolen" to the DMV, although it wasn't.

Yeah, great system.

of promoting Single Payer Health Care for ALL.

The DMV sucks completely. Everyone who works there is rude and has no idea what the phrase "customer service" means. And of course they'll neeeveeer get fired. If I act like a jerk to customers in a private company I'm not gonna last there very long- but the DMV? Oh no they can do it all day. The post office is also garbage because they can't even turn a profit when they have a monopoly. Why not let companies compete with all of the post office's services? Of course not that makes too much sense and maybe some "greedy capitalists" might make money.

And you guys talking as if the health-care system we have in this country is 100% private...what country do you live in? We have gov't managed/corporatist health-care, not private healthcare.

They could jack up the rates and watch a lot of small businesses go under. Businesses use the post office far more than ordinary citizens.

I wasn't aware that the post office was for profit. It is an indispensable service for many.

Must everything always be about profit ONLY?

the u.s. post office wasn't for profit, it was subidised by the u.s. government at a huge loss.
in 1970 it was changed from a cabinet level position and converted into the quasi-public/private u.s. postal service which is for profit and, theoretically at least, non government supported. .

LOL...

odds are your state DMV is run by a private company.

and they're pretty good usually.

so your state gov't employees do a good job at the DMV. Most civil servants do. Good for them and for you.

The Obama health plan would not make doctors, hospitals and nurses government employees, either.

Really, I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't be just delighted to deal with you when you come in. Such a ray of sunshine and all.

Sorry I can't understand how these politics can still talk againts public health care and there are using Canada. UK or their favorite socialist country sweden as a example, if anyone would ask people in these countries, I would guess that no one would change their system to like USA system, atleast no one that I have talk to in my SOCIALIST country (not sweden) would change our system to be like in USA. It's not perfect but we can a have a saying in that in next elections!

And I will always know even if someday lose my job or something worse, I would not have to worry about my kids health care! And thats the point, even if something bad would happen to me, I know that my childen are taken care of, they will have great education, health care and they can go great schools and became what ever they want. Thats for me is how I want to live my life.

ps. sorry for my english, I wrote it in a hurry!

Yes, agreed. Without these constant worries one is free in the pursuit of happiness. What a great idea. Too bad no one ever thought about that: the pursuit of happiness.

Same deal in my socialist country, which always makes the top 5 countries to live in, even #1 sometimes, as do our cities.

I know that is one of your great unalienable rights :D But how happy you really can be if your children or your own future depends on your work place. Maybe that's wrong and exaggeration, but nowadays that I don't have to worry about it, sounds nice. Maybe happiness means different things to us.

btw: my post wasn't about how anyone pursuits his happiness, it's about how 99% of the people in these countries that have public health care system are mostly happy with it and would not change it to be system like in USA

EDIT:
sorry, I read your message again and I though you were against my opinion! Hups sorry! :D like I said I'm in hurry! :D

What a transparent JOKE!! Why does anyone with at least two slightly synapsing brain cells, give him half a consideration- Beats me!!

...eating at McDoughs, or shopping at WalMart, stick with private healthcare?

all these Repugnicans look quite healthy. I'd have to guess that the government bureaucrats in between them and their doctors are actually quite good.

John, John, John, if you'd taken Animal Husbandry somewhere along the line, you'd LOVE to watch John Boner getting serviced, by the post office or just about anybody else, especially since the entire republic party has been doing it to US since at least 1980.

I've definitly had to wait but never as long as in a doctors office. And once my number came up it was usually a very efficient, professional and smooth business. Of course it's been so many years since I've been able to afford a doctors visit perhaps they're more efficient now?

And the US Postal Service is probably one of the best run orginizations in the country, public or private. Yeah they aren't perfect but they are damn good at what they do and at a very reasonable price! At least compared to the private corps. But then again We the People aren't giving the Post Master General a 2 million dollar bonus for screwing up either.

ship goods to buyers, from all around the world. I have to do that on a regular basis but I haven't stood in a line for months because I either pay and print my postage and drop it off in a USPS box on my way to the library (free books courtesy of the government, who'd a thunk it!), or I have the mail carrier come get my product packages when they are coming to deliver my personal mail, which is a free service you can also request at the USPS website. And the one occasion where the carrier was a no show to pick up my packages, the next time I needed them to come I simply typed a request when I filled out the carrier pickup request forum that they remind this new carrier to come for the packages, and evidently they did just that because she showed up!

For the most part, not too shabby at all. Go postal workers! :)

is always bored what with it being a little village and all so often wants to chat and gossip. Other then that I've almost always been happy with the USPS. So I second that "Go Postal Workers"! Tell Boehner to go cheney himshelf!

The one thing about living in a small town and going to the post office is that I send a lot of care packages to friends, and I go the extra mile to make even the packaging look pretty and special, so I always appreciate it when I get to the PO and this one particular postal worker always takes great care that he doesn't fudge up my handiwork. So I've got plenty good to say about the USPS! :) Boehner can Cheney himself indeed.

I saw the original Boehner interview, and was struck that the comparison was against DMV, with no mention of Medicare, the existing federally run health program. This whole "reform" charade is a farce, with undue influence in controlling cost given to the medical corporations whose fiduciary duty to enhance shareholder value is the primary reason why costs have risen much farther than inflation.

But, hey, if these people don't have a problem with Medicare, maybe Medicare should be tapped to run the "public option".

download or request the forms you need ahead of time and make sure that they're filled out and ready to go well in advance of the appointment.

The only incompetents in government I see are republicans and blue dogs. If you hate the government so much, why are you in it asshole?

Nothing is more f**ked up than the corporate fascist state you GOP shithead idiots have foisted upon the rest of us.

after boehner's remarks and knowing what i know having worked for the post office as a temporary employee while working my way thru college, i guarantee that gop mail will be somewhat "challenged" for speed and destination during the near future.
open mouth, insert foot.

The DMV in Boehner's district is the absolute worst and he does nothing to improve it. Operates on the payola system. Of all the states we have lived in it is absolutely the worst. In fact I don't really recall him doing anything at all for his district. He tans well, that's about it.

with the postal system ( execpt those damn bills ) yet one poster called them " CRAFT PEOPLE " , gag me with a pitch fork , CRAFT WTF , if delivering a letter or package is a CRAFT then what is a , oh never mind ! .

"Craft" are the union members (as opposed to management).

When Boehner (or any other member of Congress) needs to see his doctor at Bethesda or wherever, they don't make him wait... so his frame of reference comes from his publically funded, government-run healthcare program.

You'll have to excuse John... he's a little slow on the take, but fast on the mouth.

I hate music!!! I think I'll start a band.

I hate cake!!! I think I'll become a pastry chef.

I hate sex!!! I think I'll become a porn star.

I hate children!!! I think I'll become a teacher.

The world would really suck if Republicans approached other professions the way they approach government.

Did my vehicle registration on line Tuesday at noon. It was in my mailbox Friday at 10AM.

When he forgoes the govt-provided healthcare he and his family receive because of its many failings and instead pays private insurers and health providers, THEN I'll listen to his thoughts on the subject.

Until then, I'll keep wishing for the press to grow a pair and ask him (or any other politician against the public option) about this rather huge gap in logic.

Just more anti worker-anti government propaganda that never gets called out. Read any right wing bloggers comments and they hold up the post office everytime as anexample of government failure. Government failure? I've been getting fucking mail for 3 decades and have never had a piece of mail I was expecting never arrive. Fuck John Boner and his healthy orange glow.
