Caught on camera: The absurdity of Arnoldbucks
(full disclosure: I work for the Courage Campaign)
California faces financial "Armageddon," as Arnold Schwarzenegger bluntly stated a few weeks ago. And yet Arnold and his fellow Republicans rejected compromises by Democrats to rescue our state from a catastrophic budget crisis, unparalleled in the history of California.
Because of the ridiculous 2/3rds budget rule -- the super-majority required to pass a budget in the California state legislature -- and Arnold's failure to deliver even one vote from a small cabal of obstructionist Republicans, Californians may be getting IOUs in the mail next month instead of financial aid checks or tax refunds.
Many Californians are so overwhelmed by this paralyzing crisis that they've just tuned it out. As a result, Arnold is not being held accountable for his failure to lead.
That's why the Courage Campaign decided to try something a bit unorthodox -- raise awareness by using humor to highlight the absurdity of these IOU's, or what we are calling "Arnoldbucks."
We asked one of our members to see what would happen if he tried to use "Arnoldbucks" as legal tender at a few businesses in the area. You won't believe what happened. It's all caught on camera -- even a few security cams.

When Gray Davis was recalled and a new election held, a majority of California voters thought it would be so cool to have "The Terminator" sitting in the governor's office. We are now witnessing just what an idiotic move that was.
Arnie is just another dirtbag Republican obstructionist. He needs to be thrown out on his ass in the next election. With any sort of luck, he will be. Any takers on the Democratic side?

Julia, I suggest that state residents pay for their drivers' licenses and plates with this legal (?) tender, and just tell the DMV that Ahnold will reimburse them full value.
There must be other state services that citizens pay for where this money would come in handy. Property taxes? Sales, income taxes?

A big part of Ahnold's problem is his party's addiction to voodoo economics by freezing and reducing taxes. These selfish assclowns have used this anti tax mantra as a manipulative tool to endear themselves to the public, essentially issuing an IOU to people like Ahnold who now have to deal with it.
You cannot freeze or reduce your income and topline revenue and stay in the same place fiscally unless you have proportionate decreases in spending. Even if you do, inflation will incrementally erode your ability to balance your budget.
Stupid and irresponsible assclowns like Howard Jarvis thought they could have it all by reducing revenues without spending cuts. In reality they traded away long term fiscal responsibility for short term popularity, knowing they probably would not be around to witness the consequences.
That's the GOP for you---justice spelled just-us.

Ironically, if I'm not mistaken Californians kicked gov Davis because of a deficit of 27 billion dollars. Now, Ahnold doubled that deficit and they reelect him. Go figure.
