Homosexual Rose-Colored Glasses

Greetings from Maine! I arrived on a red-eye yesterday to help out Maine's "No on 1" campaign to protect marriage equality. Everyone around here is pumped up, but they just crunched the numbers for their quarterly fundraising goals. As of a few minutes ago they are $112,000 short of the goal.

The reporting deadline is Wednesday at midnight and they need to get to $803,208 on ActBlue. Contribute on the Blue America ActBlue page.

If you need more reason to give, than me just saying they really need the cash (and they do), check out this quote from the other side via the Baptist Press:

"Until this point, our opponents have presented a rose-colored glasses view of homosexual marriage," Stand for Marriage Maine campaign director Marc Mutty said in a statement. "Starting today, Mainers across the state will hear about the real cost to society should traditional marriage be replaced by genderless contracts whose sole focus is the adults involved in the relationship."

Rose-colored glasses? What the heck is he talking about? (Note the use of homosexual marriage, not same-sex or gay) It's simply an attempt to sow doubt about marriage equality "scary unforeseen consequences" boooo!

Repeat after me: marriage is a civil contract. It is a legal binding agreement between two adults. Letting gays get married changes nothing about this.

Mutty is seems to be insinuating that some how kids from straight couples will be effected when the forms people fill out when they get married no longer read "male" and "female" and instead are some version of "party 1" and "party 2". That of course is patently absurd.

The other side is counting on prayer to help them. In honor of Yom Kippur, I ask for you to atone for your sins and promise to make next year even better with a win in Maine. ">Do that by contributing to the No on 1 campaign.

Although funding certainly is critical, Joey Marshall, a local Southern Baptist pastor, says the pro-Question 1 side must not forget the importance of prayer. It's vital to "inform the people in the state of Maine of the dangers of same-sex marriage," he said, but it's more important to pray.

I'm fasting and working. I'm sure you guys can multi-task as well.

Republi KLAN party economic policies have destroyed more marriages in this country than any married lesbians living next door have.

pray all they want, god just told me he/she hates it whenever any of his/her children are maligned or mistreated.

and gawd's very, only begotten son, Jesus, was a single man throughout his life which was, shall we say, rather odd for a Jew in that time (or so I'm told).

And, in his 30's, he gathered a group of 12 guys to follow him around and campout and such and no one seemed to mind, (except Pilate, but he was likely in the closet himself....if they even had closets). So, it sounds like gawd might have been okay with teh gay.

WTF? Is it like the swine flu? Dangers? Again, WTF are these asswipe cowardly turds talking about? Make them explain their useless goddamned selves.

Oh, wait. They can't.

only a danger if you are in a heterosexual marriage and you think you are gay.

So

Basically they're afraid they'll get outed.

I really don't want them batting for my team.

boocilla69's picture

blame you at all. I don't think any of us want any of them on any of our teams.

well, HE'S terribly worried that one's peepee is occupying the proper sorts of cavities and such...

an omniscient, omnipresent, smartest being ever, would be preoccupied with same-sex sex. I always thought god had bigger fish to fry. Frankly, I'm really hoping for more gay weddings, best parties I've been to.

"traditional marriage be replaced by genderless contracts"

Oh noes!!! The sheer horrors! These people are batshit crazy. At the end of the day, man those unemployed without healthcare are meaningless, but those gays having rights!!!.....well.....damn but for bigots and racists this world would be a decent place to live.

Do sites like redstate have lots of liberal ads floating around their forums?

I see some here, but mostly lots of pro-right-wing ads, or biased to the right "polling" ads.

I know it's more or less automated, but do the right-wing blogs have this, and what are their readers reactions?

Fighting Teh Gay is just a way to feel like you have a purpose in life and are doing something productive when all you're doing is being hateful (which is easy), wallowing in hatred (which is easy), and occasionally donating money. You get to have your Orwellian "five minuets of hate" every day and feel like you're "fighting the fight" and doing something meaningful with your life. It's basically a sick form of mental masturbation. You work yourself up with hate and then get off on what a "good" person you are. It's a similar... dare I say "pathology", to how they deal with abortion providers, science teachers, and years ago even communists. Look at videos from tea parties to see this in action.

Now, get one of these people to actually contribute time or effort to to an actual social cause, like literacy classes, working in a soup kitchen, volunteering at a Boys & Girls Club after school project... those are few and far between.

Why are CHLIDREN filling out the paperwork to get married? Alternately, why are couples having babies out of wedlock? Sinners, all!

I am the proud mom of a gay son and I have been very involved in marriage equality. I live in California and you know what happened here last year. Don't let it happen in Maine. Let's spend less time on rhetoric and more time finding ways to contribute to the cause for No on 1. They are asking for less than $100,000 now. That means that if only 100 people contribute $10, they will meet their goal. But why hold back? Why not give more? I know that in California, no matter how much the HRC raised the other side raised more. I have almost no money, and I don't live in Maine, but I am willing to contribute as much as I can. How about you?
