Remember when Andrew Breitbart swore no racist slurs were hurled at the Congressional Black Caucus the day of the health care vote? He sneered at the possibility that any teabagger had behaved in a racist or inappropriate fashion just before he promised to donate $100,000 to the United Negro College Fund if he was proven wrong.

Seems to me the video up above is pretty clear and convincing evidence of spitting, racism and hate, and it seems Breitbart thinks so, too. Now that he can't deny it happened, he's choosing to blame John Lewis et al for walking through the group of angry teabaggers.

In truly despicable fashion, Breitbart let Hannity's audience know how outraged he was at the unfairness of it all:

BREITBART: The very act of the Black Congressional Caucus, walking through the tea party people while holding all those videos was an act of provocation. They need this desperately and one last thing. The language that Nancy Pelosi is using about the civil rights movement, comparing the unpopular health care bill to the civil rights movement ties into this… They’re all on the talking points, basically telling black people that the white people are trying to take your health care from you. This is a racial, racist, racially divisive strategy that they’re playing that’s very dangerous in the United States.

The noise machine is cranked up to full volume and steaming right ahead. In classic blame-the-victim style, Breitbart suggests that John Lewis and Emanuel Cleaver should have walked around the murmuring mob of nasty white folks rather than through them, because obviously the mere presence of black Congressmen was so inflammatory as to throw all caution (and spit) to the wind.

Never mind that they were walking up stairs to the building where they work as representatives elected by the majority of voters in their districts. That doesn't matter to Andrew Breitbart, because he just cannot stand the unbearable weight of intellectual honesty.

His remarks prove how deeply racist he, and the movement he champions, truly are.

This reminds me of an old MAD Magazine article from way back - during the Civil Rights movement, there are a bunch of activists walking down the street singing, "We shall overcome".

A couple of white Bubbas are standing on the other side of the street - one says to the other, "I don't mind if they overcome. Just as long as they don't overcome a-over HERE".

At least MAD was "ha ha" funny...

The Congressional Black Caucus had to get to that building that day.

Racial Slurs were thrown when they chose to walk this route.
Had they chosen to walk another route, no slurs would have been thrown.

Chain of Logic
The Congressional Black Caucus had to get to that building that day.
This is the building where they work, and do their job, as elected representatives.
Racial Slurs were thrown when they chose to walk this route.
Those throwing the racial slurs did this out of anger at the caucus members.
The slurs are anger-based slurs based on race.
Therefore, had the congress members been another race (white), such slurs would not have been thrown.

Obviously, they weren't racists until a group of African-Americans walked by them. The group then became racist at the site of those whose skin differed in hue from their own. Don't you get it?

No one claimed that the "spitter-in-question" dredged up a lungful of tobbacco-stained putrid phlegm, rolled it around in his halitosis-ridden mouth, and then 'hocked' it in all its dripping glory at the Congressman; in case you aren't aware, human spit, or saliva, can be of a watery nature, requiring no 'lugi' element at all.

Or were you trying to say 'hocked a Luigi at him', which would, of course, be very noticeable on video, given the nature of the Mario brother in question.

"I didn't see any spitting either"

Ten seconds into the video, it's evident something has happened when Emanuel Cleaver turned to someone in the crowd and then when he was walking away, wiping something off his face. Then, at around 1:25, he is back outside with security looking in the same direction he did earlier--at the crowd.

Notice the guy in the black shirt and white baseball cap. In the first part of the clip, he has both hands cupped while he..ahem...yells...as they walk in front of him. After Cleaver reappeared, the guy only uses one hand to yell. And as Cleaver continues to look at the crowd, he stops yelling and folds his arms over his chest, and starts looking away. I found that rather interesting.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

I have been wondering for 40 plus years when the tipping point will come for American voters to recognize who the Republicans represent. They have been appealing to the worse side through fear, racism, and greed all for the top one percent to keep control of ninety percent of the wealth and power in this country. Every time they open their mouths they reveal themselves but it doesn't seem to sink in to about half of the voters. I still have hope but not much.

karoli's picture

...and that's how they get away with it. Nixon was an expert at it with Lee Atwater's help, and it's perpetuated with the Gingrich/Rove/Palin triumvirate. They hijack populist anger for their own cynical gain.

Lots of people insist that these things never happen, based on exactly zero evidence, because they don't want it to be true.

It always reminds me of the Simpsons' Treehouse Of Horror ep where Homer was supposed to fix the nuclear plant's Y2K issues. When Lisa warns him of all the bad things that could happen, he says, "aw, Lisa, that couldn't be true, because if it were, I'd be much more terrified". The "logic" of racist apologists is identical.

That's true and funny too.

I like how Breitbart is saying it would have been better for them to go around the protesters, rather than through them. If they had avoided the crowd, he would have been screaming that the pussy black Democrats were too scared to face the mighty Tea Party Patriots, and why are they so scared of what their constituents want? etc. I truly do not understand how the (mainly) conservative talking heads like Breitbart are able to constantly contradict themselves, to the point where it's truly laughable, and yet, continue to be invited back again and again to spew their blinded-by-hatred nonsensical bullsh*t.
