"Death Panel" Talking Point Creator Elizabeth McCaughey Steps Down From Medical Board
Following this abysmal appearance on The Daily Show, it appears that Elizabeth McCaughey has decided to cut and run from her position at a large medical company.
Betsy McCaughey — an outspoken proponent of the myth that Democrats’ health care reform proposals will lead to the creation of “death panels,” as well as a former lieutenant governor of New York and adjunct fellow at the Hudson Institute — has stepped down from her position as a director of Cantel Medical Corp., which bills itself as a “leading provider of infection prevention and control products in the healthcare market.”

CANTEL MEDICAL CORP. (NYSE: CMN – News) announced that on August 20, 2009 it received a letter of resignation from Ms. Elizabeth McCaughey as a director of the Company. Ms. McCaughey, who had served as a director since 2005, stated that she was resigning to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest during the national debate over healthcare reform. Read on...
At this time it isn't known if McCaughey resigned voluntarily or if she was asked to step down, but one thing is for sure -- her credibility on any issue regarding health care, or reform of the industry has been destroyed. Oh well, at least she'll have more time to spend with her family!
Is she married to Fox Snooze because that's where she will likely end up next.

...to have asked how she made her money on that Daily Show broadcast. It would have given everybody a clearer picture of what her motivation for being, bat-shit, crazy...it's all for the damn money. I don't think she stepped down because of any problem with her reputation, or because of the DS appearance. My guess is that she's going to spend full time working to destroy the reform bill.
It's not like this rock with arms was the Director of Cantel because of her intimate knowledge and understanding of Health Care.

mcCaughey got schooled by stewart. she tried to be somewhat light and liked but was revealed to be a prop to start a lie for the anti-reform movement. there are many families who don't have end of life planning/manangement. there will be even more with the aging population. if i understand it correctly this is a good move to provide planning and reduce unnecessary care.
Why isn't anyone pointing out that this isn't a new service? It exists right now. Only now... these counseling sessions are simply not covered (typically) by anyone's Insurance policy. So if you hire yoru doctors to provide this kind of advice and guidance...you pay for it 100%.
With a Public Health Plan, these types of meetings with your doctor WOULD BE PAID FOR.

your correct but i believe the current reimbursement is ridiculously low. so it gets avoided forgotten. call me cynical but there have forces to avoid end of life mangement. keeping people on ventilation/monitors when they have absolutely no chance of life is big business.
and until you've been in the position of having a loved one with no advance directive, no living will, and on a ventilator, you have no idea how difficult this all can be. The medical people don't want to give you a lot of help because they are afraid that family will come back and sue based on an impression that they said old granny wasn't going to get better. So, it's all up to the next of kin. It's not fun. I had to do it for my mother. After making this awful decision, the doctors, who wouldn't advise me beforehand, told me that she would have never had any meaningful life again.
Sure would have saved me some agonizing if I'd known that when making the decision.

I recall something very similar occurring with Ms. McCaughey before, I just can't place the specifics, and to be quite honest, I wouldn't waste my time on her.
If I recall correctly it had something to do with the Manhattan Institute (another right-wing nut house) and health care. Definitely within the past 15 years. I'm almost certain it was Ms. McCaughey.
Anyway, her family is, of course, loaded, and just another example of all that is wrong with America and landed gentry, and she, her family and people like her family (i.e. the rich) have been screwing America for at least the past 100 years and probably longer. Will it ever end?

By the way, I didn't think that Stewart "destroyed" her; I thought that he was too nice to her and missed several opportunities to slit her (figurative) throat. it's that he's too much of a gentleman and is sometimes overly kind with people who only consider such things to be signs of weakness or foolishness. You know, with the predator types. I've noticed that really good people sometimes have problems summoning the resolve it takes to be pityless with those upon whom pity is perhaps not wise. I take their reluctance to be a proof of their inate decency. Jon, for example, would probably not make a very good judge...at least not at first.
stewart has genius like qualities when exposing hypocrisy/falsehoods. he gives his audience the ability to become part of the thinking/judgement process. he needs to continue to be a gentleman and let the viewing/listening public be the judge.

It is strange that a person can go on a news show and the reporter never questions and probes during an interview and lets his or her subject throw out all sorts of answers to the point the subject is lying. The news reporter never has enough knowledge to question any of it. Then you have the comedy man tear into an issue and will not let the subject of his interview out and out lie without questioning the truthfulness of their arguments.
Makes one wonder why the news reporters are not embarrassed.
