Foist.

Holder "leaning towards" appointing torture prosecutor? HuffPo articel says, maybe, yes. Should know within weeks.

I wonder how many times the topic - Torture, Rendition and other War Crimes of the Bush Administration - surfaced in behind the scene discussions during Obama's attendance at the G-8 Summit.

If *only* to regain International Credibility the US really needs to conduct a thorough public investigation and "let the chips fall where they may" - criminal prosecutions whenever the evidence supports them.

When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

Not soon enough!

ScubaDew's picture

We live in a country where there's no political capital in speaking out against torture. I'm not sure how exactly got to this point, but it's true.

Maybe that will all change if the oil and healthcare lobbies inexplicably become virulently anti-torture, but until then...

gonf's picture

Every time someone brings up punishing war crimes a little naysayer pops up to inadvertently, or maybe not so, help the evil war machine continue committing future war crimes. Stop it!

Is it the 21st century yet?

When I see Democrats getting the vapors about pushing a robust public health care option or — perish the thought — single payer, it's hard for me to imagine them rocking the boat by supporting the prosecution of a former president.

I'll keep writing letters, but until Guantanamo inmates start making sizable campaign contributions or the the American public show they give enough of a shit about this, the issue is DOA.

Any chance that he or she will be waterboarded?

NewsWeek: Independent’s Day

Obama doesn't want to look back, but Attorney General Eric Holder may probe Bush-era torture anyway.

Unless you do (the U$A) you will continue to lose a great deal of credibility in the eyes of the world. Many people see you (the U$A) as lawless, capricious and erratic. Not a good set of character traits for enemies OR ALLIES. The public will of many citizens is not in support of everything the U$A does, and they vote for their governments. See the pressure being put on U.K. politicians to investigate.

God yes Rifftrax. I've been a fan for years. I find it's most convenient to torrent up movies with the Rifftrax already sync'd, and then just donate the appropriate amount through the Donate link on Rifftrax.com.

Must've spent close to $200 on them now.

Wonder if Holder's sudden lean has anything to do with that 60th Senator...

Edwin's picture

If they can't get anything done with 60 senators... well, they're just out of effing excuses.

far left loon >.<

snyd69's picture

What a joke. that 60 includes max (no public option) baucus, ben nelson, mark pryor and blanche lincoln the senators from the state of wal-mart, arlen ( the repubs hate me now) specter, diane feinstein, and holy joe LIEberman

You also have the dead Byrd from west virginia and the dying lion kennedy

moonsha's picture

Byrd is not dead, yet. He was released from the hospital on June 30th.

Edwin's picture

All true, but didn't they whine when the GOP had both Houses locked up (pre-2006)? Remember the rubber stamp? Now's their big chance.

think of the 14 year olds. A friend has a 14 year old adopted daughter that is fascinated with Twilight and the new book "Breaking Dawn." I keep teasing her about the title being "Breaking Wind." She acts mad but kinda laughs about it. One thing I can say, the book had over 400 pages and she had read it in about a week or less. Come on people, think of the children.

ScubaDew's picture

Twilight's pretty scary when you notice that the whole thing is very similar to a girl making excuses for her abusive boyfriend:

"Sure he used to follow me around and watch me sleep from outside my window before we even got to know each other, but it was because he just loves me soooo much."

"Okay, I know he's really possessive of me. Almost to the point of being territorial, but that's just because he feels really protective when he's around little fragile old me."

"All right, he has really violent tendencies and can go all psycho without warning, but he tries so hard to control himself! Because he loves me!"

"I know, I know, he just admitted that he's a monster who used to kill people and drink their blood for nourishment, but OMG HE'S SO CUTE LOOK AT HIS HAIR!!!"

ron's picture

is that than when Dracula was first introduced to our immediate ancestors?

ScubaDew's picture

Dracula was introduced as a charming villain, whereas Twilight keeps trying to convince you that Edward is a sympathetic misunderstood hero.

However, Bram Stoker's Dracula was sexist for a whole mess of other reasons, but back then sexism was the norm so it's not a very compelling justification for Twilight. Even less so, considering Twilight's marketed almost exclusively to impressionable young girls.

ron's picture

think that Dracula was impressionable to young girls back in those days?

ScubaDew's picture

lol, I can't say I'm an expert on what 14 year old girls squealed over in the 19th century, so your guess is as good as mine. But you have to admit that the Twilight craze is specifically marketed towards middle school girls. Certainly more so than Dracula, at least by today's standards.

Nicole Belle's picture

My 11 y/o was a big fan of Twilight and read the whole series. The final book--which involves a particularly gruesome birth scene--put her off the series.

But at GoodReads (an online book community) they categorize Twilight and its sequels as "Mormon Literature".

Will Holder get fired for considering investigating Bush for torture?
Brown's on shakier ground with Brit casualties in Afghanistan. Concerns abound over chips in ID cards, for some reason. The back-stabbers, aka the "Moderate Dems", revealed. Cheney the Dick was in on another CIA cover-up. A lot of people minding the store had their thumbs up their asses regarding Bush's domestic spying program. Repugs distort facts on the stimulus. A Wisconsin town doesn't support its troop.

Ferrofluid's picture

was the project that had CIA employees working on undermining foreign corporations commercial contracts, I read an article a long time ago that claimed this. They were doing industrial/commercial espionage on behave of Haliburton and co, t6o enable them to steal out from under other companies existing contracts.

Gov employees actively working covertly for the interests of commercial companies in this would be unethical, illegal, and upset many foreign govs.

flu shots, period. I think they cause the spread of the flu. Too bad that Chris Wallace couldn't have the integraty of his father.

Brad's picture

Looks like you are right, Ron.
"...Well-designed medical studies conducted over the years have consistently shown that the people who catch the flu (influenza) with the greatest frequency are precisely those who get the most flu shots..."

Edwin's picture

Never had a shot. Last time I had the flu was so long ago I can't even remember. At least 30 years ago. Was it even the flu? I had a fever for about 24 hours.

(I think people get whatever they worry about too much: think good health, daily.)

that Zaleya acts almost like that US president back in the 30s and 40s that introduced Social Secrity. It's looks like he could be progressive. Somehow, I don't see a problem with that.

I posted a comment about Bill Moyers Journal on the open thread last night. Seeing the health insurance CEOs say they would not rescind their current practice of recission denying people's claims is outrageous. One CEO even said that recission was a necessity! This made my blood boil, and I think it could really light a fire under people if they see how callous these people are. Why the insurance industry is being treated like a sacred cow is beyond the pale.

bauer's picture

dear lord,

i have no idea if the honourable family name "rothschild" was once "bauer", as many have claimed.

and i have no idea if i'm related to fritz bauer, although anyone in my family who has seen a picture of him agrees he looks like my opa, who himself was a bastard in a basket.

nor do i know which strand of 18th century enlightenment will prove more durable; the franklin / american model or the weishaupt / european model.

however, i do know you and i are from the same neck of the woods -or black forest, as the case may be.

and i am here to tell you, what some have characterized as "german folklore" ought more properly be categorized as "historical fact".

that is to say, the tale of the frog prince is 100 per cent true; rumpelstiltskin lives.

and the american legends are equally honest. no word of "the prince and the pauper" is untrue. the headless horseman deserved what he got.

the peasants write history, hombre.

you can take that to the bank, or my name isn't:

karl oliver bauer

peace...

ron's picture

Bauer, I had no idea that you could be such an influence. I will definitely pay more attention to what you post.

ScubaDew's picture

If just one of them could be locked up for their crimes which would you choose: Bush or Cheney?

I'd probably go with Cheney, if only because it seemed like Bush was merely a clueless puppet who could be fast-talked into anything.

Edwin's picture

For the safety of the planet, Cheney.

In paymnet for having to listen to the village idiot for 8 years, Bush.

Safety or vengeance? Hmmm...

I commend you for continuing the effort to wake the majority of people the F up about the planned invasion of Iraq well before 9/11. I hope there is a HELL or something similar for these rat bastards that knowingly sent our soldiers off to die based on false pretenses THEY manufactured not to mention kiling countless numbers of innocent people throughout the world.

No mention of Cinematic Titanic in the comments here? It's what the REAL original writers of MST3k are working on now. RiffTrax gets a little mean spirited for me on occasion (although it can still be really funny).

Adam-kun's picture

Actually, Mike Nelson and Kevin Murphy were both a part of MST3K for a majority of the time it was on the air (Mike was head writer from season 2 on), and they both spent more time with it then Joel. I've met the CT crew, and I really liked them. They were very nice people. But I personally prefer Mike's stuff to Joel's.
