Republican Who Started "Obama Is A Muslim" Smears Accuses Opponent Of Being A Homosexual
Illinois Republican Andy Martin is about as slimy as they come. He gleefully accepts credit for starting a nasty smear campaign against President Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign, and continues to ramp up the hate as he runs for a seat in the U.S. Senate:
Andy Martin, a noted conservative dirty trickster, put out a spot on local radio in which he pushes a "solid rumor" that fellow Senatorial aspirant, Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), "is a homosexual."
"I helped expose many of Barack Obama's lies in 2008," the ad goes. "Today, I am fighting for the facts about Mark Kirk. Illinois Republican leader Jack Roeser says there is a 'solid rumor that Kirk is a homosexual.' Roeser suggests that Kirk is part of a Republican Party homosexual club. Lake County Illinois Republican leader Ray True says Kirk has surrounded himself with homosexuals."
The seedy spot seems to take a page out the Karl Rove playbook -- in which allegations of homosexuality are pushed by innuendo and 'simple demands for the truth.' In a statement to a local Illinois station, the Kirk camp vehemently condemned and denied its content.
In a stunning move, the Illinois Republican Party has denounced Martin and his tactics. Maybe Republicans is learning?

Peoria and Springfield are in the 18th Congressional District. I live in Galesburg which was once part of the 18th Congressional District. As long as I can remember the 18th has been Republican. Aaron Schock is the current US Representative, prior to that was Ray LaHood and Bob Michel. One of the most powerful Congressional Republicans that ever came from Illinois was Everett Dirkson and he lived close to Peoria in Pekin. I will admit that the 18th has tended to elect moderate Republicans. I do not believe Aaron Schock is a moderate.
Galesburg is now with the Quad Cities and part of the strongly Democratic 17th Congressional District that elected Phil Hare to the House.
There are seven House Republicans from Illinois and three of them are from the Chicago area.

Andy Martin raped and killed a girl in 1990. I don't know how these things get started with no evidence behind it. I mean, people are discussing it, but it'd be irresponsible to call him a rapist and murderer. And police are not saying at this time that there's any evidence to link him to Glenn Beck.

Illinois Republicans and they were small "c" conservatives. We generally don't have this kind of crazy in Illinois and I've lived in both Chicago and rural Illinois.
