Lunatic Pyramid scheme: Glenn Beck's Gold Scam - http://mediamatters.org/blog/201005180023
Rep. Anthony Weiner Wants FTC and SEC Action for Goldline, Beck and the FOX Gold-Shilling Narrative - http://blog.buzzflash.com/analysis/1045
Weiner has served notice that he has had enough of Beck’s crass shilling for the gold industry. Weiner has taken note of the conservative strategy to promote gold as a safe bet in the current political and economic climate. Though consumers would need gold to exceed record highs to reach a return on their investment, while the hosts promoting the gold reap the benefits in simply selling to those consumers now.
Consequently, commentators like Beck, who have invested in the gold they advertise and thus have a vested interest in its doing well, can push the narrative of the decaying U.S. to benefit themselves, regardless of its distance from reality.

Another con-servative bites the dust: YET ANOTHER REPUBLICAN SEX SCANDAL: People in Glass Houses Shouldn’t Promote Abstinence - http://politicalirony.com/2010/05/18/people-i...
This video presents a pretty typical right-wing opinion of abstinence education. In it, Representative Mark Souder (R-IN) claims that teaching teens to abstain from sex actually works, opposes teaching them about birth control, and even blames an AIDS victim for catching the disease because he should have abstained.
But what makes this video fun to watch is that the supposed interviewer is Tracy Jackson, Souder’s part-time communications assistant. Hypocritically, Souder had an affair with Jackson and is now resigning from Congress because of it. Both Souder and Jackson are married. Recording an abstinence video with your mistress certainly takes some balls.

Yeah, like oil companies would settle for "either/or"...

My concern with raising the cap, regardless of how well-intentioned, is that it will be almost certainly challenged by BP as retroactively punitive. I'd suspect that they'd have a legitimate claim that because the oil spill started under the old cap, that they're not liable under the proposed cap.
Any lawyers here, please prove me wrong.

but only five on the SCOTUS matter. And it will take 20 years and a lot of dead fisherman and beachfront resort owners who die off in the process before the money changes hands.
Their needs to be a catastrophic fund to pay off claims promptly while liability questions sort their way through the courts at a glacial pace (speaking of which will that phrase change now that global warming has changed the pace of glaciers?)
Perhaps a temporary penny tax on gasoline, with stickers on pumps and a bold line on credit card bills should be used to build the fund. That way we all know everybody pays for offshore drilling.

I wish Florida would kick it off with a tax like that down here.

Crist might actually get some positive traction with it. But it will take oil washing up in the Keys or metro Dade/Broward beaches first, unfortunately.

BP contacted my husband's lab last week and it looks like they are going to be doing some of the sea turtle hatchling and nest protection coordination for the state of Fla. It makes me feel a little better that BP did their homework and found a sincerely good company for this chore.

We share a belief in that you can't fine someone with a law written after the crime has been committed. I'm not a lawyer but I believe it's called ex post facto. You can't write a law and make it retroactive.
I just wish BP spent as much time trying to cap the damned thing as they do getting cameras down there to show us the beast.

They like to pretend the 10 Commandments was an influence on modern law.
Supposedly it was total anarchy the world over before so.
They ignore similar stories the world over of divine law givers. In Greece, Dictyna had tablets of the law courtesy of Gaea.
They never seemed to have heard of Hammurabi's Code, or Rome's Civil Law, or the ancient Germanic Common Law which the English inherited and passed on to us.
