Damn it, I hate it when this happens. I actually agree with George Will. As I reel from worlds colliding, let's look at the astonishing admission of wrongness on behalf of a Republican to which George Will wants an apology:

WILL: Five hundred and sixty five pages and a simple apology would have been in order in some of them. Which is to say, the great fact of those eight years is we went to war—big war, costly war—under false pretenses. And…to write a memoir in which you say essentially nothing seriously went wrong…if I wrote a memoir of my last week, I would have things to apologize for.

Every appearance on This Week offers up the opportunity for Will to apologize for his usual wrongness, but I digress.

This is just another example of the after-the-fact tacit admissions of the right wing--who spent the entire decade castigating and criticizing the left for questioning why we were in Iraq, mind you--that the Bush administration did lie us into a war of choice against a nation that posed no threat. But where's the apology for that from George Will, huh?

Weekly appearances on a national news show for the last 28 years and a twice-weekly column since 1978 and you'd think a simple apology--"The left was right about invading Iraq" --would not only be in order, but mentioned at some point in all the platforms Will is privileged to have.

I had business partners who were Kurdish that had a large majority of their family wiped out by Saddam, he did use chemical weapons on over 100,000 of his own people. I personally am surprised that noone seems to remember the fact that he contracted a French company to design and build a nuclear reactor that was subsequently destroyed by an Israeli air strike. After an interrogation that lasted 168 days, Saddam admitted that he did inflate the truth of their capabilities in order to keep Iran at bay. I think it was wise that we went into Afghanistan and in turn Iraq, because Russia and China still are not our friends.. We have succeeded in diverting attention towards other countries desiring democracy in their own back yard.

I do give George Bush credit for at least standing up for our 2nd amendment rights.. I can't wait for these details regarding the wars and 9/11 to be declassified, so at least in part I try and reserve judgment and wish others would concentrate more on positive things such as the fact that people are bowling in Iraq right now.

Wow, I did not know that. Thanks. Makes the whole excursion worthwhile then. Sure beats oil paying for the costs of the war as Dumbsfeld promised...

back in 1988! let me remind you who was president in 1988: george h.w. bush, who seemed to have no problem with saddam's domestic policies.

bush pere was happily selling arms and equipment to saddam, items used to then invade kuwait. the chemical weapons used against the kurds, in 1988, were not usable 12 years later, having deteriorated over that time frame. as well, by 2002, saddam lacked any useable delivery system (unless 500 iraquis attempting to throw a rocket counts as a "delivery system"), so the whole basis for invading iraq was, and still remains, a fraud.

let's not forget the fraudulent invastion of afghanistan, launched because the taliban refused to just hand over osama, sans the extradition niceties, as demanded by bush jr. how dare those turban heads expect the US of A to honor international treaties, just who the fuck did they think they were, anyway!

criminal acts tend to come back and bite you in the ass, whether and individual or a state. our state ass has been bitten twice, at huge cost of blood and treasure, not to mention the blood of the afghans and iraquis spilled in the process. if g. bush truly believes in a just god, he'd better pray he never dies, because he is well and fucked for eternity.

Is there even a single person on the planet who is surprised by that statement? I think not.

One of the reasons why Bush, Cheney, and the Modern Republican Party are so dangerous is because of their extreme ideological belief in their own infallibility.

all these terms should ring a bell to anyone with even a cursory knowledge of this subject. Dick Cheney should be living out his days in Leavenworth.

Georgie-Porgie seems to be in the mood for a truce. He also lied that Obama blamed everybody but himself for the state of the economy, "the tsunami, the tornadoes, George W. Bush", etc.

Ok, Georgie, then let's make a deal: Obama won't mention the very real disasters, Bush included, that kept the economy from improving faster as long as neither YOU nor anyone else in mainstream media blames weak retail sales and manufacturing activity in the month of August 2011, particularly along the Eastern Seaboard of the USA, on "Obama's failed economic policies" without so much as mentioning Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene.

My bet is George Will will NOT be able to honor his side of such a truce.

Rarely will the Reich wingers admit to anything but the one thing that most of them will admit is that Cheney , one of their own , is a lair , a psychopathic madman . Cheney is probably the most despised and hated man on the planet , I think the sick SOB actually gets off on the fact , likes it .Once again , what the hell is our rationale , our excuse , for staying in Iraq ? For still being in Afghanistan ? There isn't any , there is absolutely none , the on going crime continues under Mr. Slick and company and fools still volunteer to go do their dirty work and enable the sewer rats in DC . Makes me sick .

Wow

I am genuinely surprised that George Will has realized that he was lied to about the Iraq invasion, and how the damn thing was never paid for.

The only problem is, when all is said in done, and more than a decade later, this country is still pouring billions of dollars into that effort while we Americans are sitting around twiddling our thumbs while we watch America and its cities and the people who live in them continue their steady decline.

I'm sure the Vice President's book will be a "best seller".

He's not trying to paint a different picture here. I respect him for that. Cheney on the other hand....sick man. I saw him on Good Morning America being interviewed. He kept telling the interviewer that George Bush made all the decisions. He gave him advice. Different accounts on history from his abound. Yet he continues to say, I only gave advice to George Bush. What a flipping mamby pamby. He'll make it look like he was the great thinker, the man who shaped the presidency yet he won't take responsibility. Same wuss he always was. Don't send Dick into war.

Jeanne

It took a sociopath like Cheney to do it.
