Joe Lieberman Says He Will Not Support Health Care Reform Bill, Or Vote For Cloture Against GOP Filibuster: UPDATED w/ video

If I hear "He's with us on everything but the war" one more time, I'm going to go medieval on somebody.
Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democrat-turned-independent from Connecticut, said Tuesday that he will not vote for a healthcare reform bill that includes a government-run insurance plan.
This means that as things now stand, Democrats will not have enough votes to pass healthcare reform with a so-called public option unless Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) can pick up unexpected GOP votes.
Sen. Olympia Snowe (Maine), the only Republican to vote for the Senate Finance Committee’s healthcare bill, said Tueday that she would vote against bringing up a bill that included a government-run insurance program unless the implementation of such a program were set to a trigger.
Lieberman said he would vote with Reid and other Democrats on a motion to begin debate on a healthcare bill because he believes it is an important issue that needs to be considered. But he said he would not lend his support to an effort to cut off debate on a bill including a government-run insurance program.
Lieberman said he told Reid of his position in a recent conversation and that the leader “respected and understood.”
“We’re trying to do too much at once,” said Lieberman. “To put this government-created, government-run insurance company on top of everything else is just asking for trouble for the taxpayer, for the premium payer and for the national debt. I don’t think we need it now.”
Lieberman said he was not placated by allowing states to opt out of the public option “because it still creates a whole new federal government entitlement program, for which taxpayers will eventually be on the line.”
The motion to begin debate and the motion to move to a final vote are two actions that would require 60 votes and are considered the highest hurdles to passing a reform bill through the Senate.
Can we strip this traitor of his chairmanships already? I have several choice descriptors for Lieberman, but party/caucus loyalist is not one of them. Mr. Gang of 14/Up or Down Vote is more interested in letting insurance companies make a profit off you than helping Americans. He's afraid of doing "too much."

Even if Lieberman were kicked out of the caucus I don't think Obama would recommend that he be stripped of his chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee (which Obama sat on as a Senator).

Why make them filibuster? Seems like everybody would save a lot of energy if they'd just finally nuke that damn filibuster. Several of the morons in the Gang of 14 are no longer in the Senate and even if all of the Dems in the Gang were still in the Senate (a couple of them have retired/lost their seats), nuking the filibuster couldn't be averted by them.

I remember the Republicans had nearly 60 senators and they all gave impassioned speeches about anti-democratic the filibuster was. Now they give speeches about how anti-democratic it would be for the majority to remove the filibuster.
It's like there's a script for when you're in the majority and one for when you're in the minority. It just so happens that your "principles" always line up with your interests. Funny that.
Nuking the filibuster only takes 50 votes, plus the VP when necessary. The filibuster is one of the Senate's own procedural rules that isn't anywhere in the Constitution.
The reason that the Gang of 14 (note: LIEberman was one of them) even existed during Darth Cheney's misadministration is because the Senate was split 50-50 and the Rethugs were threatening to nuke the 'buster to ram through all of those idiotic judges. The Gang Of 14 Maneuver "saved" the filibuster, but allowed the reprehensible and unqualified Priscilla Owens be confirmed as a judge.
Somewhere around a third of the members of the Gang of 14 are no longer in the Senate, several of the Dems from the Gang that are still in the Senate are the same idiots who don't want to vote for the PO now (Landrieu, Nelson, etc.) and LIEberman is no longer a Democrat. Okay, so Reid was one of the gang, but I think it would be a pretty safe bet that if he was pressured to allow the procedural motion to nuke the filibuster, they've got enough votes plus a couple for it to pass.

9 months ago I said that failure by this President to hold BushCo's illegalities and war crimes accountable would be his political undoing. So too with Reid's failure to hold Lieberman accountable for his blatant betrayal of our new President and the overwhelming majority of Americans who voted him into office. They want to get Democrats who support the public option to go on record voting against this bill so they can pump out talking points on Fox every night about how "the Democrats don't even want the plan they're *forcing* on you."
Mark my words it's party of O'Reilly's script for next month.
This bill is sponsored by Republican Tom Coburn. Allow me to adjust this from Republican cynical double-speak to regular English:
Any representative of government who votes to give people who currently have *no health insurance* a choice, an option that they can afford, must as a penalty for doing the right thing give up their own freedom of choice on their health insurance in the process.

Of course, flawed logic like this would move conservative-leaning people who email you junk written by those who do all their thinking for them. If you're on the same boat as them that's pretty sad.

Sorry to mi brethern...but...uh....Jesus is "OUR" PROPHECY.....He wasn't a bad man...And...he's what "We" predicted...but.... we didn't appreciate our own prophecies....
